Rhodes Chroma New Parameter Chart Update

via Chris Ryan on the Rhodes Chroma list:

"It's taken me ages to get back to this, but I've posted a new version of the redrawn parameter chart. I've made some revisions based on feedback from last March (see New Parameter Chart): most significantly, I've reversed the order of the parameter lists to correspond with the original chart. Exceptions are PATCH [1] and the modulation routings. I've also added a small legend for the colour coding: orange for stock Chroma, grey for parameters and functions for which an upgrade is required (pressure sensor, CPU Plus, Syntech MIDI). And there are a couple of other minor fixes.

Please let me know what you think, and if you have any more feedback. Also, when finalized, do you think the original version should live alongside this one, or should this "version 2" chart replace it?"

VERMONA DRM1 mk3 - MIDI Controlled ANALOG DRUM SYNTH - Demonstrated at NOISEBUG

YouTube via VJFranzK
"The Vermona DRM1 mk3 is the newest revision of their acclaimed Purely Analog drum machine -
Musicians seeking the classic sounds of a TR 909, 808, CR78 or others in an easily MIDI controllable* rack mounted or table top unit need look no further. Connect it to your laptop, sequencer or groovebox ( here we are silently using an Electribe ESX ) and Reconnect to the Analog Percussion that inspired an electro and hip hop revolution!

It's 8 analog synths in one**, each with adjustment knobs suited to a particular type of drum sound -
KICK - The Bass Thump of your track DRUM - Suitable for various purposes MULTI - 2 Tuned Oscillators which can be a "cowbell" or something else SNARE - A Sharp, Percussive Noise Blast HI HAT - Keeping the Rhythm CLAP - A Rich, adjustable flam Produced by Synthesis, Not Samples!

These names are merely a guideline - each synth voice can be adjusted over a wide range to produce many types of unusual sound - much more variety then the Classic Drum Machines it duplicates.

*it also accepts CV connections for your modular synth use, and features shiny push triggers as well!
**You can use the total output, or send each sound out separately for detailed mixing."

MOOG MG-1 Concertmate MODIFIED

via this auction
"LZX Industries performed some simple modifications on this MG1 to make it more useful. The RCA jacks on the back have been replaced with high-quality 1/4" jacks. The audio input is routed through the filter now and there is a filter CV input. This MG-1 can be used as a standalone filter or interfaced with a modular synthesizer and other gear, like Moogerfooger pedals. A V-trig input has been added, making it easier to sequence the synth or play it from other synths that use the v/oct and v-trig standard. The BEST mod on this MG-1 is an additional switch that disengages the LFO on Oscillator One. This allows you to take better advantage of the sync and "bell tone" features by modulating one oscillator and not the other--a sound you cannot get from a regular MG-1!"

Note the auction mentions a video, but it looks like it hasn't been added at the time of this post. Check the auction later if interested.

KORG M500 Micro Preset

via this auction

"The M-500 puts the sound of the Korg MS-10 in a smaller, more convenient box. The tone is warm, analog, and very 70's--though the Micropreset was used on a number of major synthpop albums in the 80's, including the first two OMD records (listen to the lead on Enola Gay--that's an M-500). The preset sounds on this synth cover a number of different timbres, from high pitched flutes to gurgling synth bass. The filter sounds terrific and it can be modulated. The preset sounds can be mixed and there is the odd addition of random triggering from the noise source. This is the perfect little synth for the stage, since all the sounds are easily accessible from the push buttons. There are plenty of good demos worth watching on Youtube, if you want to hear the synth in action."

"I bought the synthpond app a couple of days ago and here's one of my first experiments with it.

I'm using the synthpond PD patch to controle the FPC in FL studio. The sound generator nodes don't have samples mapped (except for the hi-hats). Only the reactor nodes are mapped to a sample. that way it's a bit easier to "sync" everything.

I have all the channels muted and I unmute them along the way to show you how the patch is built up."

"The possibilities with an SH-32 and Axiom 49, no sequencer, no external effects, without editing:

With the SH-32 set to perform mode with 4 sounds in 4 different ways:

Channel One, first sound is a wave Spectrum in each oscillator mode and a FX RING RING which is modulated manually with the potentiometer "Intensity" from the front panel and the Cutoff and Resonance, from Axiom control the channel volume ...

Channel Two, second sound: here is a single oscillator with noise
and SH using the arpeggiator from the Axiom to control the depth of the filter cutoff, resonance and volume of the track ...

CHANNEL THREE, third sound, a bass sound with a pretty melody basically two sawtooth oscilasdores more delay ...

CHANNEL FOUR: This last sound is composed of two sawtooth oscillators with much use of LFO 1 and 2, synchronized by controlling the depth of the filter cutoff, resonance and volume from the axiom ... (can be seen from 3'31 " )

Internal effects of SH-32: are configured in series, first RING and the Reverb synchronized paneado a delay in the first sound is affected by the two effects processors, all other sounds only delay is applied."

Mellotron Classics : Space Oddity

YouTube via OmenieSoftware. Ellatron on omenie
"During Summer 2009 the 40th anniversary edition of Space Oddity was released, along with 8 original stems to support remixing. How could we possibly avoid that remix challenge?!

So, challenge accepted - here is one of the most influential Mellotron songs of all time - Rick Wakeman, no less - with his Wakemanness artfully removed by muting the track in Logic. And the Rolf Harrisisms of the Stylophone removed as well, but that was trickier as the Stylophone and lead guitar share a track. Mellotron and Stylophone were replaced by Ellatron's 'Mellostring' and 'Stellavibe' respectively, to give authentic Mellotron string and vibrato stylophone sounds.

Ellatron sits beautifully in the mix (even though the level is artificially lifted for emphasis), and the result is totally convincing, with no post-processing at all on the Ellatron tracks. There's no question Ellatron is an excellent performance instrument, particularly the new (not quite released!) Ellatron version 1.5 with 12 chord buttons - 16 songs, each with 12 chords allows a band to apply rich Tron sounds to a whole set, without having any musical talent whatsoever - if you can read a chord book you can program a whole set into Ellatron!"

Malekko: Wiard Envelator

flickr by Analogue Haven
"Photo of the upcoming Envelator by Malekko. This is the fifth and next Eurorack module to come from the intriguing collaboration between Malekko and modular company Wiard. The Envelator can be considered a very flexible envelope/modulator (i.e. multi-function generator).

From Grant Richter of Wiard: "We added a monostable in the "Cyc" feedback loop. Now you can make rolls, strums, echos and bounces with a single section. To get full audio range (500Hz) the delay only kicks in when the knob is pulled out. Delay time is from 4 milliseconds to 10 seconds, exponential curve. "Ext" is an external CV for the delay time, no room for attn. knob.

The normal range of the attack and decay segments is 1 millisecond to 40 seconds. The X10 knob extends the max time for both attack and decay into Gary Chang territory. I have no idea what to do with a 800 second envelope. But I am told they are cool.

The two pull switches are set up up on a composer level to allow ABCD changes on the fly."

We expect to have stock around the end of January.

Price: TBD.

"This is a series of video tutorials for the Synth Tech MOTM-650 MIDI-CV converter module. The MOTM-650 provides the means to control analog voltage controlled synthesizers with MIDI devices such as keyboards, drum machines and computers.

Paul Schreiber, founder of Synthesis Technology and creator of the MOTM format, explains the features and operation of the MOTM-650 to assist you in getting up and running fast.

See http://www.synthtech.com/ for more information.

JLR's Note: This series was originally just a single long video and available on the Synth Tech site. I took it and broke it up into 4 parts and enhanced the audio and video a little to make it easier to digest. I'll leave these up on my channel unless Paul would like them taken down and moved onto the Synth Tech site etc."

Why Yes I Do Like Echo Part 2 - Modular synth improv

"Modcan Sequencer - Modcan VCDO - Suit and tie guy Post Lawsuit filter - Modcan Digital delay with MOTM 440 in the the delay feedback loop + some synthesizers.com stuff. The sound source is just the 1 VCDO. The module I'm switching at the upper right is a DIY switch module with 4 rows of 4 switches. Various rhythmic triggers are coming from Volta (the 4 white cables). The top row of switches controls the sequencer, the second row controls the delay time. Also used is a Synthesizers.com State Variable Filter and 2 Synthesizers.com oscillators being used as 2 slow LFO's, for like, you know, like, modulating stuff.

Controlling Live loops with the APC40 which are going in dry and also being piped into the modular patch too.

This track is DRY as far as processing goes - it's straight from the modular and Live.

Sorry about the crap video
Hopefully the sound is good though, that's the mainest thing.
This year - new camera.

I'll do some annotations on this if you want, otherwise, enjoy."

More Info on The Many Colors of the Synton Syrinx

If you recall from this post, only a handful of Syrinx's are titanium purple. Peter Kersten wrote in with some info on the different colors of the Syrinx on the AH list. Posted here with permission: "The official info I got from Marc Paping (one of the guys behind Synton) was that they made the frontpanel in batches of 4. According to him there are only 4 or 8 Titanium versions. He was the one mentioned that titanium could possibly be a flaw and was not intended.

Back in the 90's I was very active with vintage gear and bought alot of Syrinxes (I was a shopowner, specialized in vintage gear). Most of them were black. The first one I ever saw was pink! So I know for sure at least one is pink. There are red, white and blue ones. Also orange and someone said there was a green one. Also some alu versions (clear paint) are mentioned. The coloured versions were batches of 20 I was told.

I kept a blue and a titanium one in my collection. Here are pics of them
Don't take the site too serious ;-)

As for the titanversion for sale at Vemia: I know that the guy is trying to sell for a long time now. First seen on a Dutch auctionsite. Price asked 6500 Euro. It appeared on Ebay several times too. This is the same person all the time. The highest price I saw, was for a blue one sold at 4500 Euro on ebay a few years ago.

By the way: Happy 2010 everyone :-)"

Be sure to see Peter's website for more including other synths.

Click here for all posts featuring the Syrinx. You will find videos and images including more colors.
From this previous post on the colors:
"The reason for the colours was that we did an introduction at a fair in Holland (Firato) and that's why we made a red, white and blue and orange version (the dutch colours). From the orange and the white version are made (what i remember) only few. The white version is like the doepfer frontpanel (not real white).

What i remember there are no purple, yellow or other colours of the syrinx produced by Synton.

The story 'The Syrinx was produced in many colors on demand for various folks" is not correct. We did this because we like to do this and we also got a good response at the fair in Holland and Frankfurt.'"
