In-Line Effects DrumFire DF500 Analog Drum Synthesizer

via this auction

"These are getting harder to find as they have been out of production for a long time.

Similar to Vermona DRM, Simmons SDS and Tama Techstar line of drum synths. (Yes, I realize how broad that is :)

Each channel is identical with individual ins/outs and sensitivity, oscillator decay, noise decay, sweep, pitch, osc/noise balance, volume and pan controls.

Each channel also has a "click" function wich mixes the triggers click with the oscillator.

The unit also has stereo headphone outs, foot switch in and Stereo outs with individual level control."

Modded ARP 2600 analog synthesizer

via this auction

"ARP 2600 synthesizer with ARP 3604P keyboard (serial #'s 26888 & 36888, respectively). Restored & customized with really useful upgrades by Tim Smith of Weyer-Smith Labs/The Audio Clinic in 1995. Do a Web search for "ARP 2600" for various descriptions of this popular analog synthesizer. The ARP 2600 was used by a wide variety of artists including Genesis (Tony Banks), Edgar Winter (on "Frankenstein"), Weather Report (Joe Zawinul), The Tubes (Michael Cotton) and many others.
After restoration, this unit sounded incredible. Upgrades, customizations & repairs included (see photos):
• replaced VCF wih 4072 filter (22kHz response), and added VCF input coupling modification to eliminated 'thumping' sound defect
• added +1/-1 octave switches for each VCO, and Multiples jacks
• added 4 mode envelope time extension modification for both ADSR & AR envelopes (X1-X5 modes)
• did "2600/3604/Oberheim" modification (CV1=standard; CV2=2nd voice)
• added 1/4" output jacks (above standard mini-jacks)
• modified reverb system for better response and 14 dB less noise
• added saw/square-wave form switches to each oscillator to eliminator patch cords for this common patch
• installed standard (IEC-type) power cable interface
• replaced op-amps with BurrBrown AP2604 audiophile components, and in voltage processor section to fix Lag offset tuning problems
• replaced keyboard interface cable and cleaned jacks & plugs, and repaired, calibrated, timed & tested keyboard
• rescaled & cleaned power supply, pots., sliders, etc., and replaced defective sliders"

Update: As always be sure to read auction descriptions on eBay in full. This one is being sold "As Is" and appears to have some issues. Thanks to sun butler in the comments for calling this out.

Logic Gate Trigger Processing via 1960s DEC Computer Lab

Logic Gate Trigger Processing by I Dream Of Wires

HackMe Electronics Sprockit Mini-Synth

via HackMe Electronisc

"Rockit’s getting a little brother, Sprockit. My goal with Sprockit it to take a lot of Rockit goodness and compress it down to something smaller and a bit cheaper. I’m achieving both goals by having a very dense design and by reducing some of the features...

Sprockit will be fully open source just like Rockit.

Two oscillators – Just like Rockit, except there’s only one knob. I have initially made 32 oscillator settings which chooses both oscillator 1 and 2 and the oscillator mix at the same time. Oscillator 2 still has a detune knob.

4-pole Analog Low Pass Filter – Instead of Rockit’s three-mode filter, I’ve given Sprockit a 4-pole Low Pass only filter. I’m experimenting with automatic gain control, but I’m making no promises and there are some reasons not to have it. Filter envelope control is accessible externally. There is no external audio input like Rockit.

1 LFO with 3 waveshapes and 3 destinations, with more shapes and destinations accessible externally.

ADSR envelope with Attack and Decay control on board and everything else externally accessible

MIDI Input – No MIDI output."

But this melody actually used to give me nightmares. When I was 10 years of age I found it scary - maybe because I couldn't understand the words - so it sort of became the soundtrack for a nightmare back in 1982.

Octatrack: New Years Day 2012

YouTube Uploaded by dkimcg on Jan 2, 2012

"Much simpler patch than the last video, but with the same setup in the Octatrack as previous with some alterations in the patterns and an added FX track for the Buchla on Track 8. They snuck in a Comb Filter I didn't know about until recently. There's also a Space Echo kinda delay (SoundToys Echoboy) and some subtle whooshy modulators added in Logic (SoundToys PhaserMistress and GRM Tools Doppler).

Machinedrum plays back some Buchla samples I recorded and gave away a while back. You can find them in the downloads at the Elektron-User website.

Vocals by George W. Bush.

Maybe a little better as a piece of music? I dunno...

2012 Atomic New Year

2012AtomicNewYear from Atomic Shadow on Vimeo.

"A short improvisation featuring HP and BK sine wave generators, prepared ambient recording, ring modulators, tape echo and a dash of reverb."

And an additional note from Atomic Shadow just for us:

"Happy New Year Matrix and everyone in Matrixland!

I have finished the Full Moon album for 2011 and thought it would be nice to do a New Years piece with some of my vintage gear. This piece features a prepared recording of a machine room ambiance with live improve on the B&K and Hewlitt Packard sine wave generators. The generators are running through an Akai MFC42 filter module, Moog Ring Mod, and a Strymon tape echo pedal. The lab coat is for my friend Stephen Howell at Hollow Sun who urged me to have some standards."

Creative uses for FoH V'Amp

YouTube Uploaded by joel1088 on Dec 30, 2011

PLEASE READ: The behavior described is actually by design. According to flightofharmony: "Mod2 and Envelope go to the same place. Mod2 is an envelope input with an attenuator, while the Envelope input is un-attenuated. It’s not bleedthrough, plugging the LFO into the Mod2 means he is modulating his gate signal on the Envelope input. Adding the Gate to the LFO signal is increasing the cutoff threshold."
