Roland DG CMU-810 vintage synthesizer

via this auction
"rare vintage Roland CMU-810... This is a predecessor to the popular SH-101 and MC-202. There are small differences between these models, the CMU has VCA cv input which the two others lack. It also has LFO delay, a feature found on the MC-202 but lacking on the SH-101. It also has a unique feature in the internal mixer which lets you mix two external sources with the synth engine. The feature that sets it apart the most from the other two is the quality of construction! This is no cheap plastic box, but a nice metal box with Jupiter-8 style quality faders! Its sound is apparently close to the SH-101 with slightly more low-end, I can't confirm this but can attest that this unit sounds awesome"

The EP is all Alesis Micron with the following: "on the track 'bell, thud, loop, code' i used a recording of ambient sounds (people, birds, cars etc) along with the micron, and the whole track is run through vocoder (alesis ineko). All the rest of the tracks are just micron + reverb. There is a link to the ambient recording in the track info, you have to click on the track to see it though"

EMT 251 Replacement Display - Hi Res Color TFT Graphics

via this auction
Not a synth, but it should be.
This one in via Joel.

auction details (note this is not this Studio Electronics from what I can tell): "The EMT 251 Digital Reverbs are great units but nearly every model now suffers a burned out display. Finally, after many inquiries from frustrated 251 owners, we now offer the DJRS 251 Color display, designed by Doug Jane. With its bright, high contrast color graphics, the DJRS 251 is a big improvement over the old dim, monochrome display. If you've got a 251 with a dead or dying display, this nice upgrade will make the EMT 251 a real pleasure to use and will substantially increase the value of your machine.

Installation is fairly simple and can be done by anyone with with basic tech skills in about 3 hours. Your original black housing, front panel (with EMT logo), and side mount pieces will be re-used. The illustrated 12 page manual gives clear, step by step instructions. You take off the top assembly, remove the old display, and unsolder two wires. The PCB is removed and the new PCB and display are installed, using a cable adapter. Now four DIP switches are set –– three select the display time out mode and the fourth selects “250 or non 250” software. Reinstall the top assembly, and you're done! Includes new PC board with display, adapter cable, and installation manual.

If you're an 251 owner in Southern California and you'd rather that we do the upgrade, it's not a problem. The install, including a general check out and calibration, is about $275. For more information about this product, please contact us.

We also sell upgrade kits that add the EMT 250 reverb program to 251's. For info and pricing, please contact us.

DroneStation 1.1.0 Now Available...

via Analog Industries

"UPDATES:

1. Tilt controls filter cutoff, in user-selectable amount.

2. New user interface. (Now with 100% more blobs.)

3. Help screen added.

4. Note name/frequency bug fixed.

5. Now (should) work fine with iPhone OS 2.2.1 or greater. This means that (theoretically) people that had the "you can't use this on your Touch because you don't have a mic" bug should be able to buy and use the app now. If one of those people would grab it and let me know if that's actually the case, I'd be much appreciative.

6. Added a 1/8th inch-wide dead space between the left-hand controls and the right-hand control, to lessen accidental triggering.

The upgrade is free and available in the usual manner (via in-device upgrade or iTunes upgrade) if you do already have it. Still $1.99."

Chaos Matrix Programmer Official Site

follow up to this video.

You can find full details on the project here.

"Chaos Matrix is a programmer for an Oberheim Matrix 1000 analog synthesizer built by Patrick Manderson. It's capable of manipulating all 126 voice parameters including 10 programmable matrix modulations buses, ramp generators, 5 point tracking generator, 3 five stage envelopes, 2 oscillators, 2 LFOs, and much more.

It features edit buffer synchronization for visual feedback and inspection of all Matrix 1000 voices parameters, patch compare, patch init, advanced performance options for some parameters as well as containing all 1000 original patch names. Seeing patch names instead of numbers alone, makes it a lot easier to remember your favorites.

Chaos Matrix is currently a work in progress and is nearly complete. It was built with help from the MBHP (MidiBox Hardware Project) using the MIOS operating system. It uses 1 DIN module, 1 AIN module, 1 DOUT module and 1 core with a PIC18F4620 microprocessor along with a custom application built with the C skeleton interface."

Dave Smith Instruments Evolver Guide by Anu Kirk

Spotted this one via this auction

"Fully operational & in excellent condition with power adaptor and manual. The manual isn't very informative and I strongly suggest all owners of the Evolver to read this guide:

[The Definitive Guide to the Evolver]
http://www.carbon111.com/evolverguide.pdf

Features:
* Monstrous four oscillator voice architecture.
* True stereo signal path with separate Curtis analog low-pass filters in each channel.
* Dedicated onboard effects (feedback, delay, distortion, high-pass filter, etc.).
* 16 x 4 step sequencer really brings the Evolver to life with evolving “pseudo-polyphonic” sounds – you won’t believe it's mono!
* Stereo audio input for audio processing of external stereo or mono signals, enabling the synth to act as a unique stereo effects processor.
* Everything (sequencer, LFOs, and delay) syncs perfectly to MIDI.
* Easy-to-navigate matrix-style interface for quick editing and real-time control of 8 parameters simultaneously.
* Multiple Evolvers can be daisy-chained for more polyphony."

NINE INCH NAILS Oberheim OB-8 Synthesizer NIN

via this auction

For those new to the site or find this in the archives, note this is not my auction. Please do not send any inquiries to me. Send them to the seller.

Auction Details:

"You are bidding on an Oberheim OB-8 bought from the Nothing Studios equipment sell off in 2001. This actual synthesizer was owned by NIN and won legitimately by myself from the auctions in late January 2001. It is autographed next to the mod/pitch toggles and includes the studio manual.

I corresponded with a studio employee handling the auctions by phone and asked not to release the phone number, which was designated a New Orleans area code. Here is a link to a Seems Like Salvation web post with an official announcement of the Ebay items up for bids, including the Oberheim OB-8... http://www.nineinchnails.net/news/jan01/012501-02.html. I also recently messaged former NIN band member Danny Lohner on MySpace and he confirmed remembering the 2001 auctions and specifically the Oberheim OB-8 being put up for sale.

ANOTHER VERY IMPORTANT FACT TO NOTE ON THIS SYNTH'S AUTHENTICITY... The manual has a phone number jotted down with what appears to be "S/R LA." Sound recording L.A.? Studio recording L.A.? Along with this is a number which has an area code and prefix that I did a background/reverse phone directory lookup on. Two seperate parties were assigned this number, who just so happened to be located within 5-7 miles of Trent's infamous Cielo Dr. studio (where Charles Manson and his followers murdered Sharon Tate). Chances are, this actual synthesizer sat in that house while recording Broken and The Downward Spiral.

I DO NOT REPRESENT NIN.COM AND I AM NOT AFFILIATED WITH THEIR STUDIO LIQUIDATION SALE. I am simply taking advantage of their equipment auctions to sell this Oberheim OB-8 originally intended to be kept and passed onto my children. As the economy has taken a nosedive, I am now in dire need of cash to handle bills, so I am using this rare occasion to market the Oberheim for maximum exposure to die hard NIN fans.

About the unit. It is in good condition, but ABOUT THREE OF THE MIDDLE OCTAVE KEYS WORK INTERMITTENTLY WHEN PRESSED. In other words, if the Oberheim is triggered by an external MIDI keyboard, every note will work just fine; but somewhere along the line, a majority of the keys in the middle octaves started working partially (only when pressed quickly). Again, all the notes sound perfect if triggered from an external MIDI keyboard, but only work intermittently if triggered from the Oberheim keys. This could be a minor issue involving the contacts underneath, but I am not an analog expert so this item is sold AS-IS. THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS. Why would you want one anyhow? This was Trent Reznor's synthesizer.

The sounds on this board are extremely textured and rich. There are superb pads and leads on here. I'm guessing this was used somewhere in Pretty Hate Machine, but it's impossible to confirm. The actual size of the unit is monstruous. It weighs over 50 pounds and measures approximately 2 feet x 4.5 feet. If you're looking for a piece of NIN history that is larger than life, this is it!

Buyer pays $125.00 shipping. Like I said, this thing is huge. I will ship only within the continental U.S. (lower 48 states). Good luck bidding!"

Admin: BINs for Ebay Auctions

Update: I'm finding some of the BINs to not accurately reflect what items are really worth for obvious reasons. BINs are what people would like in an ideal situation and can thus be inflated. I think it's more valuable to capture what the item actually went for. That said, I'll start updating old auction posts with what they actually sold for as I have time.

Old post:
Just a heads up. Moving forward, you'll notice BINs (Buy it Now) prices listed in auction posts for any auction that has one listed. My goal for this site has always been long term, meaning we can look back in time and see what was happening in the world of synths years and decades from now. Capturing the BINs will serve has a historical record of what people were listing their synths for over time. I'll use the format of BIN: price so you can search for synth BINs easily, for example Minimoog BIN: will bring up all auction post mentioning Minimoog and a BIN, except for this post as well of course. :) BTW, if I forget a BIN, let me know and I will add it. Note this applies to MATRIXSYNTH-B as well.
