Arturia MiniBrute vs. AtomoSynth Mochika XL Dark Side.

Published on Dec 16, 2012 by Robert Shipe

"The MiniBrute is being sequenced by the Mochika XL via CV/Gate. I go through all the waves and then I start mixing them. Also running Control Voltage from an Analogue Solutions Telemark-K into the MiniBrute's Amp. I'm also messing with the CV-Gate and Swing from the MochikaXL. 100% analog. I also used my Mackie Mixer, an M-Audio 610 Octane Pre-Amps, BBE Sonic Maximizer and Lexicon Reverb. Tannoy/M-Audio monitors and a Peavey KB amp."

Arturia MiniBrute LFO Demo Session.

Published on Dec 22, 2012

"Arturia MiniBrute's LFO demo. Jamming on the sine-wave, triangle-wave and sawtooth-wave. The MB's LFO is routed to the Mod-Wheel. I just tried to focus on the LFO. If I had to compare the Arturia MiniBrute to other analog synths I'd have to say it's a mix between a Roland SH-101 and a KORG MS-20 with a whole lot of modern analog sounds. It's very clean on single waveforms and waveform mixes w/o any oscillator add-ons. Once you turn on the Super-Saw or Metalizer or PWM it becomes extremely dirty and if you turn the sub-oscillator on it gets downright nasty. Then you have the Brute Factor which is like over-driving a Moog's filter but it's all internalized and all you have to do is twist a knob instead of doing all the wiring. It's a truly awesome synthesizer that can easily hang with it's big brothers and sometimes surpass them. Especially if you want a modern sound that you can actually use in tracks. Super-tight envelopes with a solid filter that's Bandpass is almost as good as it's Lowpass. Really good synthesizer."

New Intellijel Azimuth II and uJack modules

via Intellijel
"Azimuth II – 10 HP Stereo panning/balance, crossfading, dual linear VCA and stereo enhancer/processor!

The Azimuth is back! This is a completely new circuit jam packed with 12 VCAs to perform three core and independent functions:
linear input VCAs + Constant Voltage panning/fading + super stereo processing.

External signals are first processed by the input VCAs, they are then fed to the panning circuit and then processed by the stereo enhancement section.

Features:
-10HP and skiff friendly
- Stereo linear input VCAs with independent CV controls and attenuators
- WIDTH control determines functionality of the Panning knob:
- Full CCW is MONO width and the Panning knob acts as a linear xfade control between the left and right source signals.
-Middle setting is normal STEREO operation. A mono signal in the left input can be panned between L/R and a stereo source can be balanced.
-Full CW is the super stereo mode which employs a special trick to create the aural illusion of an extra wide stereo image.
-Full CV control with attenuator of the width amount
-Switch for changing the direction of panning/fading
-DC coupled inputs
-6pin header to normal the stereo outputs to the stereo inputs of the uJack via ribbon cable.
-Price $260"

"uJack – 6HP Headphone amp and stereo unbalanced output

This is a module I have wanted to put out for a long time and it is something I need and use all the time. I love being able to bring my skiff into the living room and plug in a pair of headphones to jam out. It also makes a very convenient line out interface for recording or amplifying your rig.
David Dixon added his touch by designing the headphone amp circuit so it was capable of driving very low impedance studio quality headphones. We have tried it on some 30Ohm Beyerdynamic and Sennheiser headphones and they sound very clear and loud.

Features:
-6HP and skiff friendly
-Headphone amp capable of driving low impedence headphones via 1/4″ stereo Nuetrik jack
-L and R -10dBv unbalanced line level outputs on TRS 1/4″ Neutrik jacks
-Switch for mono/stereo monitoring
-Left input normalled to Right input
-Individual level attenuators and global stereo heaphone gain control
-6pin header on back of module and ribbon cable for connecting directly to outputs of Azimuth II.
-Price $120"

FARFISA SOUNDMAKER Analog Synthesizer 1979 | HD DEMO

Published on Dec 26, 2012 by AnalogAudio1

"I played the Farfisa Soundmaker with a Roland DC-30 analog delay.

The Farfisa Soundmaker is a string synthesizer from 1979. It looks a bit like a Synclavier :-)

It has a string section, a "poli" section and a monophonic synthesizer section. The keyboard has aftertouch. Also it is possible to run the polyphonic section through the filter of the monophonic section - like seen in the last part of the video."

New MS20 & KingKORG Analog Synths Coming from KORG?

via Nahuel Mijal on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge

These pics appeared on an Argentinian website but have since been pulled. The KingKORG complete with the Empire State Building and a new MS20.  The KingKORG looks a bit like an Kawai K5000S/W.  The name?  You can judge for yourself.  A new MS20 makes sense considering the Monotribe and Monotrons along with the Legacy MS20iC, but the question there would a keyboard Monotribe with additional knobs make more sense.

According to Nahuel, the MS20 was listed at "4700 argentinian pesos (more or less, 700 USD, but we pay almost a x1.5 price)"

Phonogene Day 1 - WowWow

"An improvisational jam with the Phonogene on the first day after installing it. It was overdubbed with a version of the drum beat that stands in for timekeeping as well as a vocal sample "woo ooh wow" which are overdubbed, then altered using the "Gene" and "Slide" controls, with a bit of pitch/speed variation toward the middle of the track. The phonogene is running through the Z-DSP high pass stereo filter to give it some spread and body. There are 3 LFOs running to gently alter the functions of the Phonogene, and I am manually manipulating a number of controls throughout."

Hammond Novachord SN 1137

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Up for auction today is one of the great pieces of musical history, the Hammond Novachord. When these were originally made in the late 1930's and early 1940's, they cost as much as a house! The Novachord is recognized as the first production synthesizer, decades ahead of everyone else. If you've ever watched an old sci-fi or horror film from the 1950's then you've heard a Novachord. There are only several hundred of these in existence out of an original production of just over 1000. The value of these will only GO UP. This is one piece of musical equipment that is rare enough to be considered as a true financial investment.

This particular Novachord does turn on and play. We put new 2A3 power tubes in the power amplifier, and tested all of the other tubes. We ended up replacing roughly 14 tubes, the rest tested ok. The notes above middle C all seem to work well. 90% of the notes below middle C do not work. My guess is that the frequency dividers for those notes need some work. All of the knobs turn freely. The vibrato works and most other functions work to SOME degree. This being said, THIS NOVACHORD WILL NEED WORK. This is NOT A 100% fully working unit! There are a few websites out there that have great information about how to restore a Novachord. This unit has the original preamplifier, speakers, and power amplifier. I believe that the bench is original but I'm not 100% sure. The finish is rough and will need attention. One support that connects the left front leg to the left rear leg is cracked and will need to be glued. There is also a crack in the wood on the faceplate that will need to be glued. The speakers are original but do have some small tears and punctures. I'm sure that there are other nicks and dings on this instrument but the pictures should give you a pretty good idea. Overall this is a very nice instrument that is just waiting for the right owner!!!"

Transistor Revolution - 808 & 909 for Kontakt Player

via Wave Alchemy

"Introducing Transistor Revolution for Kontakt Player!

Is it possible to accurately recreate the sound of a vintage analogue drum machine in a software plugin? nearly 2 years ago we started out on a journey to find out...

After gravitating towards the most influential drum machines ever created (namely the TR-808 and TR-909) we soon discovered the extreme depth of focus needed to faithfully capture the tone, immediacy and groove of the original instruments.

2 years on, after a lot of research and development (and 22,000 samples later) we arrived at what we believe to be the most accurate emulation of these classic drum machines ever created... Transistor Revolution, our virtual analogue drum machine inspired by the classic TR-808 and TR-909 electronic drum machines of the 1980’s.

Why 22,000 samples you might ask? To give an example of the detail involved in the sampling of each instrument, the Revolution 909 Bass Drum alone uses 9318 unique sounds to faithfully recreate the 909 Bass Drum sound. Each of the 4 knobs on the Revolution 909 Bass Drum control panel scans smoothly through each and every sample in real-time... Additionally to emulate the subtle differences in sound inherent of analogue equipment we recorded 7 variations of each drum sound which cycle randomly each time a key on the keyboard is played.

Each drum sound in Transistor Revolution has been carefully recorded using a pristine 3 inch solid core cable connected to a transformer balanced Radial JDI and brought to line level with an AMS/NEVE 1073 preamp. To retain the full frequency response and dynamics of this instrument we carefully matched the peak level of each drum and recorded the samples at 24-bit 96KHz using mastering grade NEVE designed conversion.

Feature List

Available in Standalone, VST, AU and RTAS instrument formats for Windows and Mac OS X via the free Kontakt Player from Native Instruments. Full version of Kontakt is NOT required.
Intuitive GUI design faithful to the original TR-808 and TR-909 front panel layouts.
Recreate every nuance of the original analog drum machines or define your own unique sound using the worlds most advanced sampling engine, Kontakt 5.
Contains over 22,000 unique samples which have been carefully edited and calibrated for tight synchronisation and playback.

Smoothly scan through thousands of multilayered samples with the turn of a single knob and play sounds which were once only tied to analog knobs and circuits live in realtime using velocity and controller data.
All sounds have been meticulously recorded at 24-bit 96 kHz through mastering grade AD converters.
High quality effects including; EQ, Compression, Tape Saturation, Transient Shaping, Filters and Bit Crushing allow for premium sound shaping of the pure analogue samples with a re-routable signal chain.
Designed for both production and live performance. Live drummers looking to integrate 808 and 909 drums into their performances can do so effortlessly with MIDI learn and full velocity/ MIDI CC control.
Adjustable output noise amount/level control for each drum sound, multi-sampled from each individual output of the original instrument/s.
Calibrate the peak output level of Transistor Revolution per drum module for easy integration with analog mixing consoles and outboard gear.
Mix and match sound sources between both Revolution-808 and Revolution-909 to create your dream analog drum machine or use an unlimited amount of modules in a single instrument.
6GB in size after unpacked."
