Yusynth VCO, VCA, ADSR

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"This is a custom analog synthesizer that was constructed using the excellent wealth of information at yusynth.net.

The VCO, VCA and ADSR modules have been completed and calibrated. The VCO is the left-most panel. The VCA and ADSR are together in the next panel.

The power supply is from an Alesis Studio 32 mixer and has enough power for this and probably several more cabinets of this size.

Included with this synth are the three additional panel blanks needed to finish this cabinet as well as the multi-conductor wire for piggybacking the power from module to module.

Also included are several board/wire connectors to help get you started on your next module.

The pictures show what the completed modules could look like and where the various ins outs and controls are.

All of the circuit layouts, silkscreen files and schematics for these, and many more modules, can be found at yusynth.net."

Don't judge a modular by it's looks alone. :)  It's interesting to think of the impression you get when you look at one stripped of a nice printed faceplate.  The sound and functionality is the same of course, but the perception is different.  More pics below.

AMSynths AM8705 Dual ADSR

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction
"This module is a Dual ADSR similar to the envelope generators in the Roland 700 and 100M modular analog synthesizers. The AM8705 contains two identical traditional ADSR format envelope generators with variable Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release. The module uses 30mm travel slide potentiometers and has toggle switches to switch between 2 different set of timings - slow or fast.

Detailed Description
This module contains two envelope generators each with 3 timed stages: Attack, Decay, Release. The Sustain control adjusts the level to which the Decay time reduces to. Both ADSR’s are triggered together by an internal gate signal from the standard Doepfer 16 pin bus, or a front panel push button (MANUAL GATE), or individually via a gate signal connected to the front panel Gate jacks (GATE1, GATE2).

The standard duration of each stage is 10 seconds, but each ADSR can be switched using the TIME toggle switch into a fast timing 1/10 the duration. This enables fast envelopes to be generated. Two identical control voltages are available for each ADSR, making it easy to patch an ADSR into both a VCF and VCA simultaneously. The gate signal is displayed for each ADSR via a dedicated LED. Each ADSR generates a control signal from 0V to +10V.

There is a Red gate LED for ADSR1 and a Blue gate LED for ADSR2. The toggle switches have colour coded caps (Blue and Red) and the single gate switch is a Red push button button."

"EVI Steiner Steinerphone Valve Instrument / EWI / E.V.I / Sax / Synth

This is a very rare and limited production Steinerphone in good shape (see photos)
Buyer only receives what is in the photo

Around 1984-1985, Nyle Steiner designs and produces by hand a very small number of EVI and EWI "Steinerphones" for top professionals.
The EVI Steinerphone (brass fingering version) built into a small attache case is the first model he makes.

After several woodwind players ask for one, he designs an EWI model as well. One of the most famous players to play it is Michael Brecker. He featured the EWI Steinerphone on several recordings both solo and with Steps Ahead and others. Check out the 1986 Steps Ahead "Live In Japan" DVD (ID5736ERDVD) for some amazing Steinerphone playing!

Some units were interfaced to a JL Cooper MIDI Wind Driver Box (heavily modded by Steiner) to provide MIDI OUT capabilities to drive additional MIDI synths.

I am not sure which model this one is..."

Bananalogue Serge VCS

via this auction

"Bananalogue Serge VCS Synth Module For FracRack or Blacet Style Mounting Rack. Getting hard to find these in FracRack format. Same rack format as Blacet, Paia and several others, but comes with a Blacet style power connector. Could be changed over if needed.

The Serge VCS module released in from bananalogue.com is an extremely versatile control voltage generator and audio source. In the early 1970s, Serge Tcherepnin developed the Positive Slew and Negative Slew modules for the original Serge synthesizer. In time these merged into the classic Dual Universal Slope Generator. The Bananalogue VCS is an adaptation of Serge's original circuit with a few new features.

The VCS is a unity gain voltage follower. The rising and falling slopes are independently and jointly voltage controllable over a wide range.

VC Transient Envelope Generator

A pulse at the trigger input will start the envelope, or a gate input will sustain the level and the envelope will fall when the gate goes low. Rise and fall are independently and jointly voltage controllable, with variable linear and exponential wave shapes.

VC Portamento

Voltage is slewed according to the rise and fall times.

VC LFO

When the cycle switch is thrown, the trigger input is connected internally to the end trigger output, creating a VC clock with variable waveform and independent rise and fall times.

VC Oscillator

While not as wide ranged, or accurate as a dedicated oscillator module, the VCS is still an excellent audio source. The Exp CV input is scaled approximately to the 1v/oct standard. The Output wave can be swept from triangle to saw with linear and non-linear waveforms. End Out also produces a pulse waveform.

VC Non-Linear Audio Processor (Low-Pass Gate)

If an audio rate signal is slewed, the module responds like a VCF, and a rough VCA. The signal is low-pass filtered down to silence, similar to a low-pass gate.

Envelope Follower

Positive and negative peak detection envelope follower.

VC Pulse Delay

Trigger input starts the envelope and a trigger will be produced again at the End Out when the envelope completes its cycle.

Sub-Harmonic Generator

If a series of triggers are applied to the VCS faster than the total rise and fall times, the module will divide the incoming signal by a whole number. In the audio range the output will be the sub-harmonic series."

MetalBox CGS Ken Stone Wave Multiplier

via this auction

"Controls:

Folds manual and CV attenuator - sets amount of harmonic folding
Offset manual and CV attenuator - adds a DC offset prior to folding
Pulsewidth manual and CV attenuator - controls pulsewidth of pulse output
Grinder drive - Grinder input level
Grinder lag - alters harmonic content
Lockhart input level - determines level into Lockhart folder

I/O:

Inputs 1-2 - inputs to primary Wave Multiplier
Folds CV input - VC control of wave folding
Pulsewidth CV input - set PWM level
Offset CV input - add an external DC offset or another waveform
Folds output - primary Wave Multiplier output
Pulse outputs - squared up version of primary output
Grinder I/O - in and out to Grinder section
Lockhart I/O - in and outs of Lockhart section

Frac spaces: 3

Current draw: 50ma

Three independent Wave Multipliers that add intense harmonics to static waveforms. The primary multipler has voltage control over the amount of folding, waveform offset, and pulse width modulation. With two inputs, a huge array of sounds can be had. The Grinder adds "ringing" harmonics to any input, sometimes reminiscent to digital aliasing. The Lockhart folder is designed to warp a sine into harmonically rich waveforms. Think of these three Wave Multipliers as "anti-filters" dramatically adding harmonics rather than reducing them. Whilst the primary and Lochart multipliers are designed for use with raw waveforms, the Grinder is particularily effective on complex inputs such as drum machines."

"This vintage drum machine is certainly the best analog drum machine ever. Only 400 or 500 of them were made.

Musicians like Prince, Michael Jackson (on Thriller), Human League, Herbie Hancock and Kraftwerk used the LM1 in their music.

To my knowledge only one LM1 was sold on ebay (worldwide) last year. The vintage / analog synthesizers dealer to whom i have bought it 12 years ago has never see another one in his life. For the record he has checked it a few days ago before i put it on sale on ebay).

The Linn LM-1 Drum Computer was created by Roger Linn and he used samples of acoustic drum sounds. At the time, they sounded great and much more realistic and they were a fresh alternative to the analog drum sounds of the '80's drum machines. Patterns can be created in real or step time. An innovations of the time was the swing and quantize functions that appeared on the LM-1. The LM-1 is an historical synth that has a place in the sound of music from the heart of the '80's."

The voices are arranged in two groups of four voices each, refered to as the Upper Voices and Lower Voices, respectively. Each group of voices gets control signals from its own associated control cirtcitry, which also contains the Low Frequency Oscillator for each group. There is a control circuit for the Upper Voices, and a second for the Lower Voices. Both control circuits are controlled by the OC-Xa's onboard computer.

It is a computer that looks at the keyboard and the front panel controls, and then communicates the appropriate information to the control circuits and to the voices themselves.

Dubspot First Look: The Propellerhead PX7 FM Synthesizer In Reason 6.5 w/ Chris Petti
Published on Jan 3, 2013 DubSpot·384 videos

"More info: http://bit.ly/S6YtYw
Recently Propellerhead approached me about designing some sounds for a new FM synthesizer in Reason. As you may recall from some of my previous video tutorials, I showed you how to create an FM synth out of several Thors and a Combinator. The purpose was to demonstrate how to get some of the more modern, edgy FM sounds that we associate with dubstep and electro.

Although my method for creating FM sounds this way worked, Propellerhead have made this easier now with a new FM synthesizer engine, the PX7, now available as a Rack Extension for Reason 6.5. The PX7 is a true six-operator FM synth with some dazzling math behind it, resulting in a replica of the Yamaha DX7, the first commercially available FM synth from the early 1980s."
