Not a synth, but I thought this was close enough to warrant a post. It gives you an idea of how the effect pedals might sound with your synths. And of course, it's Malekko!

KARMA Motif v3.1 released - Mac OS X 10.9, MOXF, MOX, Rack-XS!

"Westfield, NJ, Feb 2, 2014 - Karma-Lab has released KARMA Motif Software Version 3.1, a major update that adds support for several more Yamaha instruments and Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9. A free update for any current owners, version 3.1 adds the following new features and improvements:

- supports 5 Yamaha instruments: Motif XF, Motif XS, MOXF, MOX and Rack XS
- supports Mac OSX 10.4.11 through 10.9.x Mavericks, Universal
- supports Windows XP through Windows 8.1, 32 and 64-bit
- supports the Steinberg CMC-PD and CMC-QC external controllers, among others
- adds additional control ports for use with more external devices at the same time
- new Previous Scene, Next Scene and Startup Scene functions
- new Phase Activity Display shows the relationship of each Module's Phase Pattern
- support for scrolling via MouseWheel/Trackpad where applicable
- revised and updated Help File including .pdf version; new and updated Tutorials
- other new features, enhancements, and improvements.

KARMA Motif brings developer Stephen Kay's award-winning and patented KARMA algorithmic music technology to a number of Yamaha Motif-based models, giving them extensive new interactive groove generation, arpeggiation and arranger-like capabilities. The software uses the Song/Mixing/Multi Mode of the Motif-based instruments to provide 16 part multi-timbral templates with the kind of fully interactive real-time controlled grooves that only KARMA can produce.

The software includes the ability to use the keyboard's Remote Mode to control all of KARMA's functions directly from the keyboard, while KARMA sends parameter information and values directly to the keyboard's display. This allows you to control KARMA from the keyboard without looking at the computer, and makes it feel like the KARMA software is built-in to the keyboard.

KARMA Motif uses the keyboard's Song/Multi/Mixing mode, where each of the included KARMA Performances is a complete, 16 part multi-track six-module KARMA algorithmic music groove, with a left hand and right hand zone for controlling KARMA and soloing on top of it, and eight fully voiced and completely different scenes. The keyboard's arps are also additionally integrated in each Performance as additional elements that can be added via KARMA's Intelligent Chord Trigger Transposition features. And since you are already in Song Mode, you're just one step away from recording your KARMA-fied musical performances into the internal sequencer - or you can route the output to any DAW for external sequencing. Furthermore, a KARMA Performance can call up any Voice, Performance, Song, Pattern, or Master slot when loading, so that KARMA can be used in any of the supported model's modes.

KARMA Motif is available directly from Karma-Lab for US $199. A 13 minute Video Introduction on the Motif XF is available demonstrating many of KARMA's interactive performance capabilities. More information, including links to documentation, tutorials and user forums, can be found at karma-lab.com/karma-motif

"KORG VOLCA Series on an AMBIENT psychedelic LIVE SESSION with ambient guitar live loops (Drones) & Roland Juno 60, Jomox Xbase 09 (just percussion sounds).
Main synths are Volca Keys, Bass and Beats with individual Hi Hat Output.
The Main Output of VOLCA BEATS goes to the Filter Input of my DOEPFER MS-404.

I have described in the video (filmed with 3 cams), which Synths are playing and muted. So you don't have to guess the different sounds.

In the middle of the session I used Waldorf Puls I for a Sample&Hold-sound, too. Yamaha RM1x is just used as Master MIDI-Clock (no use of internal sounds). Beats has MIDI-Out Mod and syncs my Boomerang III Looper, which is running in free mode. all synths use their internal sequencer/arp or are played live.
Recorded without overdubs and mastering in just one take.

I HOPE YOU ENJOY IT

"Reuniting with an instrument is one beautiful thing.
For a little less than a year, my Oberheim Matrix 6R was “incapacitated”, doing all sorts of crazy things. A couple of weeks ago, I finally found the time to take it to Hernán “The Wizard” Baldi, who returned it in Mint Condition. Anew.

The excitement and emotion of having my Matrix back in my studio was such that I set myself to a “challenge”: composing a track using ONLY the Matrix, programming every sound from an “INIT PATCH” situation.

I then complemented those sounds with the wonderful Eventide Space Reverb, added a little EQ and compression, and after several days of mixing, here’s the result, my first Ambient work of 2014.

I hope you enjoy it."

via the seller: "I am the original owner of this beauty. I purchased Brand new in probably about 1982 and used it for some minor gigging, but mostly I used it in my song writing and recording. So it never was exposed to heavy traveling and abuse. It does have a couple of broken sliders which still work fine it's just that the little plastic sliders broke. I still have the pieces along with the little caps, and they could probably glued but I never had the desire to open up the chassis and do that since the sliders still work fine. You'll see what I'm talking about in the Contour Generator section. It's the Loudness - ATTACK & SUSTAIN sliders. They have red caps and those pieces are pushed into the the foam of the flight case. And also in the Mixer section it is missing the little green cap on the NOISE slider, which got lost along the way. Again it works completely fine without that little cap. You'll see all this in the pictures.

The Liberation was the first commercially produced Keytar style keyboard/synthesizer. It was big back in the 80's and is a classic analog machine. It has 2 monophonic VC Oscillators and a polyphonic capability so you can actually play organ type chords. But it's not like a 32 or 64 voice machine that you can play Big Lush chords. The Oscillators have Square, Triangle and Sawtooth waveforms. The keyboard is aftertouch sensitive. The neck of the unit features controls for Force, Glide, Mod Amount, Filter, Volume and a Pitch Bend Ribbon.

This unit does show some signs of normal wear and usage with minor scuffs and paint wear but overall it is in really good shape. It also comes in a Flight Case that, if I recall correctly, I paid a couple hundred for back in the day. This is a heavy duty case and not the guitar like case that I've seen. The case is in good shape although the foam padding has started to break down after all these years, so I've lined it with a moving blanket to help keep the foam from sticking to the keyboard..."

The Korg Volca Series: 3 Volcas Combined- Song 4

Published on Feb 3, 2014 AutomaticGainsay·196 videos

"The instruments in the Volca series are excellent individually, but they can also be combined to create a miniature electronic studio.

When I first acquired the Volca series, I combined them, improvised sequences, and then shot myself improvising manipulation of those sequences. That is the origin of these 3 Volcas Combined videos.
In the right hands and with a little practice, some great music can come out of these as a set. Don't let my little experiments fool you. ;)

Because I got tired of looking at my face, I have created weird visual narratives from vintage educational films to go along with these songs.

Please forgive me for the sloppy mixes... in haste, I ran them all through a single mixer for recording during performance.

Thanks for watching!"

Spektrumsynth 2 Tutorial 1: Signal Flow Published on Feb 3, 2014
This is the first in a series of tutorials on the Spektrumsynth 2 Reaktor Ensemble, by New Frontiers Audio. In this tutorial, Don Garbutt takes us on a tour of the synthesis sound sources and their paths through numerous filters and effects.

SPEKTRUMSYNTH 2.2 Published on Jan 31, 2014
Here's a quick tour of Spektrumsynth 2 Reaktor Ensemble. Additional videos will cover the instrument in more detail. One of the key features of Spektrumsynth is the intense modulation routing. The "Animator Pad" is directly linked to the main target parameters, with additional routing through Grand Central Station. Pad movements are recordable, polyphonically triggerable or driven by other modulation sources. New filters with FM capability, CPU optimization and additional signal-flow options are amongst the updated features.

Spektrumsynth 2 Tutorial 2: Modulation and Routers Published on Feb 9, 2014
This tutorial introduces us to Spektrumsynth's control patchers known as "Wavetable Router" and "Grand Central Station". These patchers act as the nervous system for Spektrumsynth, where control messages may be directed from all modulation sources to all targets. 36 patch connections can be made, with further access possible through the use of the Animator Pad. Additionally, numerous components are hard-wired, making Spektrumsynth semi-modular, like the ARP-2600.

Spektrumsynth 2 Tutorial 3, Part 1: The Animator Pad Published on Feb 18, 2014
Witness the Spektrumsynth Animator Pad in action: realtime control over a multitude of parameters for amazing synthesizer sound shaping. Synth presets, basic assignments and the Path Recorder are demonstrated. See Part 2 for extended parameter assignments and modulation of the pad by LFOs, Envelopes and Sequencers.

Spektrumsynth Tutorial 3, Part 2: Advanced Connectivity Published on Feb 19, 2014
Completing the two-part saga, see how the Animator Pad controls targets in the synth through the two modulation routers. Modulation sources also drive the pad and produce some very nice control patterns!

Spektrumsynth Tutorials # 4: Range Modulation Published on Feb 25, 2014
"This video shows how to utilize Range Modulation to bring your patches to life. Sound examples show various options for interesting patch enhancements.

Spektrumsynth 2 Tutorial Series, #5: Interaktor Modules Published on Mar 10, 2014 Don Garbutt·23 videos
"This video explains the 'Interaktor' modules which provide step-sequencer/arpeggiator functionality, designed by Chris List. Part 1 demonstrates the basic functions, with assignments to the Wavetable and Solo Oscillator sections, with some musical examples. Part 2 will show some more exotic usages, where Interaktors will be assigned to features other than simple note events. Complexities of gate/voice assignments including keyboard split and use of the Aux. Envelope will be explained."

"Soul limbo" - on Yamaha HE-8

Published on Feb 3, 2014 organfairy·408 videos

"Her er Søndagskvisten!

One of my co-workers suggested that I should do this old Booker T & the MGs melody. And since he was armed with an ESD gun I though it might be best if I obeyed.

I didn't have a drum machine with a limbo rhythm so I had to programme it myself using the Roland TR-626 programmable drum machine. The problem was that I had forgot how to do it. So I had to do the most embarrassing thing a man can do: Read the manual.
You might notice that the manual looks somewhat water damaged. That is actually a physical memory of how I got it: I was at an outdoor car boot sale - one of those where people load their car boots or trailers with whatever they want to sale and show up. There I was, the rain was pouring down and everything was muddy and wet. I spotted a guy with an open trailer full of things that came from his dead father in law's attick. Amongst the things were an Elka X-30 organ that I wanted but sadly couldn't transport because it was before I got a car. Then suddenly I looked down and saw this TR-626 that had fallen off the trailer and lied face down in the mud. I picked it up and asked what he wanted for it. I got it for 50 dkr (app. 8 US$). It took me a while to get all the mud out of the plugs on the back side and the manual had to spend some days on the heater. But eventually it was all fine - except for the discoloured paper."

PIANA 2.0 multi-synth test

Published on Feb 3, 2014 Pi Synth·31 videos

"This is synth pap at its worst, and makes me laugh out loud. A couple of weeks ago I set the completion criteria for PIANA 2.0 as a synth engine - a) it must be capable of playing a reasonable version of Being Boiled, and (for some reason) b) it must be capable of playing a version of Mama Weer All Crazee Now in the style of The Future. Sadly there is nothing remotely Marsh-n-Ware about this, except the glamtastic handclaps - it's all rather Popcorn by Hot Butter. But it's done.

8 synths, 4 of them percussive - an unused 'snappy tom', the Don Powell shuffle snare, the '808' kick which is just the resonant filter and an EG, and the Glitterclap. The 4 tuned synths are affectionately 'Jim', 'Nod Guitar', 'Dave' and 'Nod Guide Vocal' - I had to stick in the melody line of the vocal because I could not for the life of me work out what the notes were supposed to be in the chorus. Perfect pitch passed me by when the skillsets were handed out at birth.

The weird timing glitches are because this was sequenced in Logic, then played over WiFi to the iPad, and that is about as bad as it gets for MIDI timing.

Total CPU consumption, 65% of a single core of an iPad 2. All sounds 'analog', as in no samples at all - just LFSR noise generator, virtual oscillators, virtual EGs and virtual filters.

I shouldn't be rude about it, it really is quite sweet."
