"This is the ULTIMATE TR-606!!!

The Quicksilver mod is so amazing and totally opens up this machine to new possibilities. Read about it here.

Analogue Solutions tonal mods with breakout box give you control over pitch, decay, and sweep.

This machine is vastly more expressive and flexible than a stock TR-606 and so much fun.

In perfect working condition. Cosmetically very very good. Also includes the 1/8" TRS to MIDI cables that go with the Quicksilver mod."

Vince Clarke's ULTIMATE SUPPORT AX48B Stands For Sale - Synths May Follow

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

According to the description some of Vince's synths may follow. See the seller's other items for more.

"Having recently moved from a spacious log cabin studio in maine to a smaller basement studio in new york city (see pics at vinceclarkemusic.com), vince decided to replace his free-standing ultimate support keyboard stands with space-saving wall-mount units and asked us if we wanted them. we didn’t! but we felt bad that they were taking up precious space in one of vince’s closets and agreed to help him unload them. we received 8 stands in total. as of writing this, two have been sold so we have six left. hopefully they’ll sell soon cause now theyre taking up precious space in one of OUR closets! >:[ now, vince is quite a modest guy who doesn't normally go around autographing his stuff, but after several very long and painful negotiations, we convinced him to autograph this stand for you!

so why should you want this lovely keyboard stand? well, some might argue that this piece is a crucial part of the erasure sound! others might not. whatever the case, this awesome 2 tier ultimate support ax-48b apex keyboard stand would be a great place to put 2 of your beloved keyboards. designed to be quickly and easily assembled and disassembled, its ideal for gigging musicians who are in a rush. the arms come off in a matter of seconds and can be stored in the compartment on top of the stand. the 3 legs slide out from the compartment on the bottom of the stand. its great for studio use as well. see our pics above for a photo we took of this or one of the other similar stands in vince's maine cabin studio where it was ultimately supporting a Moog Minimoog and Roland Juno-106. and if you dont play keyboards, well, this item would probably make a rather handsome coat rack as well!

NOTE: the photos shown here may not be of the actual stand you receive since we have 6 of them, but they are all autographed and are all in similar condition.

this particular stand is in very nice shape, with some typical scratches and dings but nothing worth mentioning in detail. it was autographed with a silver paint pen. we taped a piece of paper over it before loading it into our synthmobile (tm) and will leave it the way it is so it doesnt smudge before you get it. once you get it, you might want to apply a clear coat over it if you wish to preserve it. want more general info on the ultimate support ax-48b? please search the web. keyboards not included.

if this auction goes well, we may ebay a couple of the spare synths and drum machines vince traded us a while ago. the ones he used most may become part of the massive vintage synth recording studio we may make available for select projects.

check out erasure’s new album (the violet flame) and find erasure tour dates near you here."

HELMHOLTZ SOUND SYNTHESIZER.

Chemnitz: Max Kohl, c.1905.
US$ 20,000 - 30,000
£12,000 - 18,000

Some info on the synthesizer in general from Explore Whipple Collections where you'll find additional pics. Note there are two known electronic instruments prior this. The Denis D’or, the “Golden Dionysis” and the Clavecine Électrique or the ‘Electric Harpsichord’ both of which you'll find at the excellent 120 Years of Electronic Music website. Currently they do not list the HELMHOLTZ.

"This ingenious device, designed by Herman von Helmholtz XR (1821-1894), was the very first sound synthesizer: a tool for studying and artificially recreating musical tones and the sounds of human speech.

Background

Suppose I sing the word 'car' and then on the same note sing 'we'. The two vowel sounds will be similar in so far as they have the same pitch G , yet they have a clearly distinct sound quality, or timbre G . What is it that accounts for this difference, and the timbres G of musical sounds in general? Helmholtz set out to answer this very question in the mid 19th century, building on the work of the Dutch scientist Franz Donders (1818-1889).

Complex tones

Helmholtz showed that the timbre G of musical notes, and vowel sounds, is a result of their complexity: just as seemingly-pure white light actually contains all the colors of the rainbow, clearly defined musical notes are composed of many different tones. If you play the A above middle C on an organ, for example, the sound you hear has a clearly defined "fundamental" pitch G of 440Hz G . But the sound does not only contain a simple "fundamental" vibration at 440Hz G , but also a "harmonic series" of whole number multiples of this frequency G called "overtones" (i.e., 880Hz G , 1320Hz, 1760Hz, etc.). Helmholtz proved, using his synthesizer, that it is this combination of overtones at varying levels of intensity that give musical tones, and vowel sounds, their particular sound quality, or timbre G .

How the synthesizer works

Helmholtz's apparatus uses tuning forks, renowned for their very pure tone, to generate a fundamental frequency G and the first six overtones which may then be combined in varying proportions. The tuning forks are made to vibrate using electromagnets and the sound of each fork may be amplified by means of a Helmholtz resonator with adjustable shutter operated mechanically by a keyboard.

By varying the relative intensities of the overtones, Helmholtz was able to simulate sounds of various timbres G and, in particular, recreate and understand the nature of the vowel sounds of human speech and singing. Vowel sounds are created by the resonances G of the vocal tract, with each vowel defined by two or three resonant frequencies G known as formants. When we say or sing 'a' (as in 'had'), for instance, the vocal tract amplifies frequencies G close to 800Hz G , 1800Hz and 2400Hz amongst others. When we require a different vowel sound, the muscles of the throat and mouth change the shape of the vocal tract, producing a different set of resonances G ."

"SCI Prophet VS, made in 1984 [make that 1986]. Beautiful, amazing unicorn of a synth -- a hybrid of analog and digital. Believe it or not, back in the day, 'analog' was out of style, and "digital" was the big new thing. The Prophet VS has one foot in both worlds: Analog was a solved problem, and the engineers still weren't entirely sure what to do with digital! All sorts of things you can't find anywhere else: Bizarre, magical envelope generators that go way beyond ADSR; the capability to loop and repeat. An arpeggiator that can almost be called a sequencer, supporting layering and a memory of over 100 notes. DCOs you can upload your own waveforms to over MIDI.... analog filters, multiplexing, chorus. 8 voice polyphony. My favorite part is its ability to randomly generate patches (Enter + 2) as it takes you into all sorts of wacky areas -- intensely deep patch programming. The Prophet VS is featured on many of the tracks of the new Aphex Twin album, 'Syro', and for good reason!"
