"Just jamming with the new AtomoSynth Mochika X2 and an electribe!!!"

Mochika X2 synth section

via AtomoSynth

"The new Mochika X2 features one analog square and saw waveform VCO (voltage controlled oscillator) with a huge pitch range, from subsonic to ultrasonic sound.

Glide effect with a large range for radical portamento effect.

One square and triangle waveform LFO (low frequency oscillator), that modulates the VCO for the vibrato effect or the VCF for a tremolo effect, creating old school arcade Atari-like sounds.

White noise generator.

Vactrol based Low Pass and High Pass Filter with cut off and peak controls, one envelope generator with decay and level control and normal/inverted envelope switcher to create a wide sort of timbres and sound possibilities.

Built in 8 step sequencer with global gate time control, note on/off switch and pitch knob for each step.

The built in sequencer also has 30 modes:

Oscillator mode, the Mochika becomes a drone oscillator, you can switch in real time between the 8 notes tweaking a knob.

Normal sequence modes, from 2 to 8 steps length.

Forth and back sequence modes, from 3 to 8 steps length.

Random mode and random repetition, it generates a large pseudo random sequence, seed of chaos!!!

Repetition mode in which you can define from 1 to 8 repetitions for each step.

Gate type mode in which you switch between normal gate (time defined by the gate knob) and hold, for each step.

Gate Arpeggiator with 8 patterns, you can switch in real time between the 8 notes tweaking a knob and sync it by midi or external analog clock.

Freeze sequence effect.

First step effect, you can define in which step the sequence will start.

CV and Gate Outputs to control an external analog synthesizer.

External analog clock input and output to synchronize it with your modular rig, another MochikaX2 or any other analog gear.
Midi input to sync it any midi device sending midi clock signals, it can sync 1, 2, 4 and up to 8 times the tempo of the master clock midi device.

Midi thru to add the Mochika X2 to your midi chain.
All the sequencer modes, except oscillator mode, can be midi synchronized.

Rugged steel case with all the potentiometers and switchers fixed to the case.

Powered by an external power supply (12V AC, 500mA)

Dimensions: 190mm (W), 215(D), 82mm (H. included rubber feet and knobs)"

"Make your own mini MIDI synth with DSP-G1 Voice Chip analog modeling synthesizer by Jan Ostman at DSP Synthesizers. It's a tiny LPC810 chip programmed to read in MIDI streams and make music!

The chip reads TTL level serial MIDI data and outputs sound through a 44.1KHz Delta-Sigma DAC. The synth is a 15-DCO structured as 5-note paraphonic with a 24db lowpass filter with resonance. It also has: AMP ENV, filter ENV and LFO with sine or sample & hold waveform.

If you want to use it with for example Arduino (as we did in our example photo), it can be connected to the ATmega TX port and controlled through a sketch. More chips makes it multitimbral

Altair Sequencer Project - How I did it - Episode 1

How I did it - Episode 1 from Giorgio Sancristoforo on Vimeo.

"The day has finally come! The first episode is here!

In this video I will demonstrate how to turn the Altair 8800 into a digital sequencer (it could do MIDI out with a few more code inside Max). The Altair communicates with my Mac with a Serial to USB adapter. All the Altair code was written under CP/M 2.2 using Word Master word processor, ASM Assembler and Load program.

The code basically outputs 8 notes and a rhythm pattern. All the notes are in MIDI note number values (see for example line 0113h. The rhythm pattern is a 1byte binary number that works as a gate for the steps of the sequence.

In the next episode I will develop the concept further and get some polyphony.
As soon as the max patch will satisfies me, I will publish here the patch and the code to make music with your Altair, clones and originals.

Any question, comments and critics may be addressed to me by sending a mail (see contacts page on my website) or commenting the vimeo video here:) .
Thanks for watching and see you on the next episode!

KORG ARP ODYSSEY (2015) vs. ARP ODYSSEY MK.III (1978) comparision test

Published on Feb 19, 2015 RetroSound

"(c) 2015 synthesizer demo by RetroSound

comparision demo KORG ARP ODYSSEY (2015) vs. ARP ODYSSEY Mk.III (1978)

Here is the A / B comparison test. It is very important to say that compared to my old ARP Odyssey Mk.III from 1978. The synth is 100% technically ok, calibrated and in practically in mint condition.

On the new KORG ARP Odyssey are three different filter types (Rev.1 to Rev.3) available and only filter type III is used here in the test. The owner manual for this filter is to comply with the 24 dB/oct low-pass filter (filter 4075) of the Odyssey Mk.III. Furthermore, the Drive function of the new ARP Odyssey is deactivated because it is not this the original. In order to maintain absolute equality, the audio samples were recorded directly via the same audio input without any external effects, compressors or equalizers and then recorded on HD.

In the audio examples, it was not aware of keyboard acrobatics, the focus was more on the key features of sound production as basic sound of the oscillators including pulse width modulation, the filter, ringmodulator, the VCO sync function and especially the speed of the envelopes to make a meaningful comparison to get.
If the old ARP some sounds louder sounds than the KORG, then is that the result of all the parameters.
For example, the sound filter in position III thinned at a high response from KORG out much more and loses its foundation as the old Odyssey MK.III. On both synths is the VCA fader on top position. The sound of the new KORG ARP is more clean, especially in the bass spectrum. The old ARP is a bit noisy and sounds a bit more organic.

some sounds are sequenced over cv/gate with the Doepfer Dark Time step sequencer."

"in this patch, a cycling/modulated function acts as master clock for the STG Soundlabs .DIV, this clocks the WMD SSM as well as feeds the SSM inputs. Outputs go to "Play" on the Phonogene, the Korgs' sync inputs, and the fall of the function for clock stutters, and into the SSM's own input. the DAC output of the SSM modulates the pitch of the Phonogene. The XY pad control other CV inputs on the Phonogene, the Monotribe and Volca Keys are mixed before entering the preamp salvation of the Phonogene

a new configuration for my Erthenvar / Pulp Logic lunchbox synth centered around the WMD Sequential Switch Matrix and Make Noise Phonogene. both are controlled by some custom layouts i made in touchOSC, and MIDI is being transmitted via the MIDI Implant tile.

this rig is really intented to function alongside the Korg Volcas and other similar instruments, with the SSM being very useful for routing clocks and audio between the boxes."

This module features:
.Two independent filters, a High-Pass and a Low-Pass with dedicated audio inputs and outputs.
.Besides individual outputs the HP and LP are also sent to a voltage-controlled Mix between the HP and LP filters.
.Both Cutoff and Resonance are voltage-controlled with dedicated cv attenuator pots.
.Switch for selecting between normal cutoff behaviour and an adjustable Smooth circuit to simulate a vactrol behaviour for cutoff control.
.Switch for setting filters Filters in Parallel, independent, or Series: HP into LP.
.Inspired by the Oscar synthesizer we added a Coupling switch to tie the HP Cutoff control to the LP Cutoff control, in this case the LP cutoff controls act as an offset from HP setting.
.Three position switch selects different resonance clipping paths: diodes / no clipping / leds.
.Both filters features a post Distortion/Fuzz circuit that adds extra harmonics adds an even deeper growl or extra gritiness to it.
.All audio outputs HP, Mix and LP feature a switch for choosing phase output, allowing additive or subtractive mixes.
.Three Leds monitor the amplitude of the three outputs: HP, Mix, LP."
