Live stereo input granular demo for the Percussa mSSP

Published on Dec 12, 2018 PERCUSSA

Percussa mSSP on Kickstarter

"Live stereo input granular demo on the percussa mssp kickstarter prototype. The patch in the mSSP consists of a granular module, 2 LFOs for start and pan modulation, an SVF before the granular input, and a delay and reverb module after the granular. The granular has a built in recorder with overdubbing and dry/wet controls. All granular parameters can be modulated using internal or external signals and it's possible to run multiple granulars in parallel, sending their stereo outputs to the 4 outputs of the mSSP. The mSSP will come with a PC/Mac editor to edit all patches. All synthesis and FX are done on the mSSP at 96kHz 32-bit. Output of the mSSP recorded using the big SSP at 96kHz 32-bit, and synced to video afterwards. Input signal for the mSSP was 2 STOs + 1 FUNCTION by make noise."

Update: some additional info from this kickstarter post:

"The granular can load WAV files as well, instead of using a live input. You have the following parameters to play with, which can also be modulated using audio or CV signals, internal or external:

Start of Grain Selection Window
Length of Grain Selection Window
Grain Level
Grain Frequency
Grain Duration
Number of Grains
Tuning
PItch
Frequency Modulation
Randomization of Grain start and Duration of Grains
Dub factor for overdubbing
Blend factor for Dry/Wet mix of Live input / Granular output
Pan position

Ensoniq Fizmo via this auction

No mention what happened to them, but if I had to guess on the Waldorf Q, the Nextel paint got sticky and someone attempted the talcum powder fix. Apparently you can coat stick plastics with talcum power and then give them a light wipe to clean any excess off. The silo knobs likely broke apart, which actually happened to me on my XTk as you can see here.

That said it looks like a job gone horribly wrong. I was going to say the A6 and Fizmo faired better, but check out the cigarette stains on the keys, dirt on the surface, and missing knobs. They look like they've been stored in an outdoor shed. The listings state they are estate sales. There are other synths listed including an EMU PK-6 Proteus keyboard, XK-6 Extreme Keys, Proteus 2000 rack synth, and two Yamaha EX5s. On the non synth front there's a Porsche steering wheel for anyone interested! Click on "See other items" to right of the seller's name after click any of the three auction links above.

Schlappi Engineering Angle Grinder & Interstellar Radio

Published on Dec 12, 2018 Perfect Circuit

"Schlappi Engineering has two gritty and noisy eurorack modules. The Angle Grinder (https://www.perfectcircuit.com/schlap...) is a quadrature oscillator and filter with built in complex feedback paths for squaring up and distorting the signal. The Interstellar Radio (https://www.perfectcircuit.com/schlap...) modulates and then demodulates a signal with the options of adding lots of odd aliases from the transmission. This patch is sequenced with Noise Engineering modules, the Integra Solum, Mimetic Digitalis and Zularic Repetitior. The Sinc Iter is used as the sound input for the Interstellar Radio to create a noisy snare sound. The Mutable Instruments Stages is used as five envelopes to modulate the bass sound of the Angle Grinder. Intellijel’s Quad VCA is used as VCAs and Mixers and the WMD/SSF DPLR adds a delay effect to the snare sound.

Boss DR-110 analog drum machine (1983): unboxing, tutorial, review and TR-808 bass drum mod.

Published on Nov 26, 2018 2kB of Fun

"Boss made a couple of budget analog drum machines. After the first, the DR-55, they came with the Dr. Rhythm Graphic in 1983.

In this video the DR-110 gets unboxed, you will see how to operate it, and it wil be modified to make the analog bass drum a longer bass drum, to mimic the sound of the Roland TR-808.

The iMac G4 in the back captures the sound from the DR-110 using classic Phonic Firefly 302 FireWire audio interface.

Filmed with a Nikon D850 in 4K, a 28mm 2.8 AIs and a 85mm PC-E Tilt-Shift lens.

I'm wearing a custom made Korg DS-8 T-shirt."

"ARP Solina String Ensemble First Model with Original Factory Chorus Mod, Expression Pedal and Case

ARP / Eminent Solina String Ensemble E.K. (first model) in very good condition, a few scrathes on wood panels and most of the lettering on the front panel is gone, but the buttons and keys are in good condition.

Sounds amazing, a bit more "open" and trebly compared to the more classic E.K. 2's.
No oxidation or double triggering, a joy to play!

This particular one was modified by ARP/Eminent in the Netherlands, where it was originally purchased straight from the factory: a Chorus button.
Not to be confused with the regular Modulation, which is permanently engaged on this early version, but a very sweet sounding, slow vibrato and chorus effect. We've never seen or heard this mod before.

Included is the rare Expression pedal, works fine but should probably be calibrated for optimal performance, the note stand (!) and an elegant made-to-measure, padded suitcase."

I've made another video of this patch, but just using the Stages and doing a quick demo, here: [below]

Single high notes: Mutable Instruments Braids
Drums: Simmons SDS 8
Percussion: Folktek Matter
Bassline: Livewire AFG"

Mutable Instruments Stages - Easter Egg - Harmonic Oscillator - Quick Demo

"Patch notes for this quick demo:
CV: Koma Komplex Sequencer
Gates/Triggers: The first 3 inputs from the left are steady triggers from an ALM Pamela's Workout.
The last 3 inputs are from an Iron Ether Pithoprakta which has it's looping turned on and off to create random, then locked in patterns.

There's a bit of clipping in the video caused by me having the input to the camera turned up a touch too much. Div."

Dangerous and awesome zone tube Fusion Mixer from Erica Synths

Published on Dec 12, 2018 Dziam Bass

"Hi Folks.
I have a new movie showing the dangerous and awesome zone Tube Fusion Mixer from Erica Synths.
at around 3/4 of the volume, it starts to saturate greatly and gives audio overloading on the vacuum tube.
Special function Fusion Mixer - great effects overdrive lamps when the level knobs are set to 3 hours or above. In combination with percussion machines, it even emulates sidechain compressors. When used to mix signals from the VCOs Fusion Mixer, it works like waveshaper, especially if pulsed modulated pulse signals are used in one of the inputs.
Drums from PICO Drums module."

Spaced-out Synth Improv - Big Noyd ft. Mobb Deep with OP-1, Circuit & Volcas

Published on Dec 12, 2018 MakingSpaces

"Some spaced out synths along with the Recognize & Realize acapella by Big Noyd ft. Mobb Deep. Using the Novation Circuit, Volca Beats, Volca Keys, Teenage Engineering OP-1, Arturia Keystep & Eventide H9.

The only pre-sequenced bits were the two synth lines coming out of the Circuit. I improvised drums on the Volca Beats and Circuit, the OP-1 synth, and the Volca Keys. Some thick tape delay out of the H9 added some nice depth.

The best bit for me was messing with the turntable, trying to sync the acapella on the fly, and just play with it as another layer in the music. I'm not a DJ so this does not come naturally to me at all."
