ROLAND JUNO 60 w/ MIDI

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Having previously owned a Juno 106, I can confirm that this Juno 60 sounds way better, it's fatter and warmer, great for Basses, Leads and string sounds. The Juno 60 also has an arpeggiator which the 106 lacks. The wood side panels also make the 60 look way more classy.

CONDITION: Please note there are a few knocks and scratches to the wooden sides and bottom, however the face plate, controls and keys are all in very good condition, please see my photographs for cosmetic damage, for a synth of its age it is in very good condition and plays like a dream.

Midi Retro fit: You will notice from the photos the addition of MIDI IN,THRU, OUT, a red button on the right of the face plate and ticker tape added above some of the keys. This is all part of the MIDI retro fit. I have never seen any other Juno 60 with this so I consider this to be a very rare find. This is extremely cool as it enables playing the Juno from a modern midi sequencer like Cubase/Ableton/FL Studio etc.

I have recently had it serviced (2018), the service man told me that the MIDI retrofit looks like a Groove Electronics kit, it was already fitted when I bought it back in the 90's so I cannot confirm this."

Elektron Analog Four MKI

"The Analog Four is a 4 voice analog synthesizer with precision digital control. There is a sequencer per voice with total timbral control over each voice individually. It can be used as a poly synth when connected to a keyboard and all the voices can be differently set, allowing for very unique sounding polyphonic playing. This MKI unit is in great shape and includes the power, USB cable, and the original box."

Roland SH-1000

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The SH-1000 is an early monosynth from Roland with a surprising feature set for its class of instrument. There is a single oscillator with multiple simultaneous wave shapes and octaves run through a classic typical Roland sounding resonant filter. There is a single envelope and LFO.

The interesting part of this design is the bank of switches along the bottom. Along with preset sounds along the right, there are switches for routing the ADSR and LFO or bypassing the controls and using a preset shape. This allows for independent envelope shapes for the VCF and VCA even though there is only one ADSR. Delayed vibrato is also possible with the LFO switches.

This synth has a charming design that is capable of more than it initially looks like. It has that lovely warm and heavy sound typical of early analog synthesizers.

The condition of this unit is unfortunately not as great as the design. Some of the preset switches have been broken off(fortunately the deeper function switches are all still intact). The left wood side is missing and electronics are somewhat exposed. The panel has some rust and pitting on the surface and there is a good amount of cosmetic wear throughout.

Thankfully the synth actually functions fairly well. The only real issue with the sound is the oscillator calibration. It could definitely use tweaking as octave jumps are a bit out out of tune and some pitch drift occurs when playing. Finally, some of the key contacts are worn and require a bit of pressure to sound.

This synth could be a great project and if you don't mind the condition, a fun addition to your studio setup."

Ensoniq Mirage DSK-1 Sampling Keyboard

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Mirage is a famous sampler with a fantastic gritty sound with tons of life to it, there are analog filters, keyboard split, and some other really powerful and unique features. Samples can be saved and loaded via floppy as well as recorded in through the 1/4" input. There is also an on board sequencer.

This DSK-1 is the last version they produced. This sale includes two of the original factory disk sets.

The condition of this keyboard is over all very good, there is some light cosmetic wear but the unit is fully functioning and sounds great. The only issue with this unit is the 7-segment display. Two of the sections are not lighting up as shown in the pictures. Typically the display is showing the parameter value or number which is typed in before editing so it isn't too difficult to keep track of where you are. On other functions like sequencing and loading it may be a little hard to keep track of where you are however."

Yamaha CS Flute patch: Vangelis inspired played by Stephen Coker.

Published on Jan 28, 2019 Stephen Coker

"Stephen Coker playing a Vintage Yamaha CS60, flute patch.
This is a patch that most people overlook but nothing should ever be overlooked on this amazing instrument.

Because this is one of the most expressive synthesizers, infinite tone colors can be obtained. It always astonishes me how this synthesizer can sound like real instruments but, even better.

Though the CS 80 is the king of the CS line. With the CS 50 and 60, You can obtain any sound that Vangelis did, Partly because most of the time he used only a single layer on his CS80. And of course, the smaller CS synths have the expression and modulation systems within them. The beautiful thing about the expression mechanical system and circuit is that it also effects velocity as well as a aftertouch.

I believe the horns obtained by the CS line are the best out of all others synthesizers.

Of course, I'm biased because I think that everything the CS synth does is untouchable.

In fact, I have used this instrument on tracks that people believe has real horns on.

I can play this flute patch for hours and never get tired of it, just like every other patch on the CS60!

If you ever get a chance, get yourself a Yamaha CS synthesizer and you'll always have one of the very best instruments ever conceived of."

SELF PATCHED! Sputnik Quad Function // Pitch bends & sub audio blips

Published on Jan 28, 2019 DivKidVideo

"Here's the Sputnik Modular Quad Function Generator and Trigger Source. As it's a quad module it gives us plenty of looping envelopes, some that oscillator some that are triggered envelopes all patched back and feeding back on themselves for some complex function generator action.

SELF PATCHED! Is a series of videos filmed back in August of 2016 (so they look a little different but that direct audio is still clean and sweet … or noisy and mega harsh as the patching dictates. The series aims to explore and educate (myself and yourselves) about how these modules and circuits behave and how we can abuse and manipulate them outside the ‘norm’ by feedback patching them back on themselves. Treat the audio as “sample fodder” pick out little hits and cuts for percussion, odd spattering horror soundtrack sound beds or long feedback tones perfect food for a sampler to play polyphonically. It’s all just with one module patched back on itself, stack cables were my friends here."

Vintage Moog Analog Modular Synthesizer Performance - NAMM 2019 Moogseum

Published on Jan 27, 2019 ustadkhanali

"Hear this amazing historic 1967 modular system previously owned by both Patrick Gleeson of Different Fur Studios and Don Preston of The Mothers of Invention. I recorded this very short video yesterday at NAMM, holding it right next to the speaker so you could actually hear the audio on the very loud NAMM floor.

The modular is currently owned by Walter Holland of lauded Holland Synthesizers, designers of custom aerospace quality audio equipment. Holland and his musical partner Steve Leonard, keyboardist for The Cretones, will be demonstrating the synthesizer throughout the weekend.Holland’s monolithic four-tiered modular includes three prototype modules created by R.A. Moog, Co. in the late 1960s, making it a truly one-of-a-kind system.

Both gentleman were saying that this required constant maintenance, and indeed, while we were there, they were tuning it. Leonard said that if you were to go in back of the synth and fart, it would probably go out of tune! :D

I hope you enjoy this rare peak into an amazing, historic modular synth! BWHOBUBUBUBUBUBUBUBUBUWAHWAHWAHWAH!!!"

"The little CS01, despite looking like a Casio, is a pretty impressive analog monosynth. I love keeping a couple around in the living room for impromptu jams, but it sounds incredible on stage or in the studio. The PWM sound is unusually rich and the fast envelopes make the punchy and percussive sounds really useful. It doesn't compare to much else, sound-wise. It is different from the other CS synths and perhaps closer to the Korg MS-10 or Arp Axxe.

This rare, RED CS01 was serviced last year (cleaned key contacts and some recapping). It has a few scratches and worn spots on the body (see photos), but is in nice shape, overall. The original silver carrying bag works great, but looks kinda worn out."

Making Music With Test Equipment

Published on Jan 28, 2019 HAINBACH

"In which I go to the roots of electronic music by playing laboratory tools, among them a 26kg sine generator.

I have had a fascination with test equipment ever since I heard Stockhausen's early works at university. The challenges the composers of that time faced were unique, both musically and technically. So when I first visited the Waveform Research Center in Rotterdam run by Dennis Verschoor an idea started in the back of my head, that I put into reality over the past two weeks: to have my own test equipment setup to compose on. This is the very first piece I made with this setup. I still have lots to learn, but I am looking forward to expanding and combining this with tape techniques."
