Roland Vocoder Plus VP-330

via this auction

"This is perhaps the most easy-to-use vocoder ever built with a great sounding synth built in. The VP-330 vocoder section aside, its analog synth voices are an iconic sound all their own, and the strings are similar (but certainly not identical) to the ultra-classic Roland RS-505 string machine.

This particular instrument is in great working/playing condition. All the keys work and the sounds are smooth. It is missing the plastic adjustment cap on the attack and release controls, but it does not hinder you in any way from controlling and could be easily replaced for a few bucks."

BiZMUTH WoNky DRuMs

Published on Feb 20, 2019 Helmut

"The faster you turn the knob the faster it sends gates."

Not this is the first BiZMUTH post on the site, although Helmut has been featured before. We have a new maker on the site!

via BiZMUTH Modular

"Bizmuth is a gesture based chaotic signal router and gate generator. You can route switch or combine up to six signals, or generate up to six gates by turning three endless knobs with one hand.Small tweaks can have large effects on routing or gates, giving the module a very tactile and chaotic feel.

If you are into noise, glitch, sound design, or chaos, Bizmuth is a great tool for you on stage and in the studio.

The module has three identical switches with three IO Jacks each: A, B and C. All operate according to the same four step connection sequence: A B C, A-B C, A-B-C, A B-C, and so on. A dash (-) indicates a connection

As you turn a knob, the connection sequence of the corresponding switch advances and new connections appear between the three IO jacks. The connection sequence repeats 24 times in one full 360 revolution. That means you have a different patch every 3.75 degrees. Tight! In the graphic on the right you can see the connection sequence in quarter resolution for clarity.

All jacks are bi-directional, which means you can use them as inputs and outputs as well. For example, you can route a signal from the B IO jack to A, A and C, or just C, just like you can route two signals from A and/or C to B. Here you can see a simplified graphic from the switch sequence. In the actual sequence there are four times as many switch positions.

Bizmuth has three preexisting connections also known as normalisations, which help you to realize more complex routing and to generate gates. All B IO jacks are normalised from top to bottom, and if a 16 pin power connector is plugged in, 5V is normalised to the top switches B IO jack. The actual gate out voltage is 4.8V

That means, that as long as you don’t plug a cable in a B IO jack, it will be connected to the B IO jack abowe, or 5V if it’s the top one. Try leaving all B IOs empty and patch any A or C IO to a gate or trigger input! Turn the knob of the switch and notice the gates! A total of 6 gates can be generated if you use all A andC IOs."

Buchla 208r Module Version 1

via this auction

Pics of the inside below.

"The 208r Clone is the top half of the Buchla Music Easel as a standalone module built by a very reliable and well-known third party manufacturer. By 'standalone', I mean it still needs a standard Buchla case to receive the correct power, etc., but it is independent of the 218 pressure keyboard that usually comes bundled with it as a complete Music Easel set-up.

It is in excellent condition and lightly used in my home studio since December of 2014 (I am the original owner). It is a version 1 unit, so the Programming Card slot on the top left of the unit IS NON-FUNCTIONAL. This is not because of any misuse from my end; it is the way that it was built and was a known issue when I purchased it. Otherwise everything else is functions perfectly and build quality is fantastic. As I hope the accompanying photos indicate, there's not a scratch on it and it's beautiful to behold."

Moog Sonic Six 6 musonics original vintage analog synth 1970s

via this auction

"This moog is in perfect functional condition, with no issues of any kind. Easily the cleanest I’ve ever seen.

She sounds absolutely amazing and is super-duper stable. All knobs, switches, mod wheels and functions are in perfect working order. She's just come back from the tech for a full service & sounds great.

I will not bore you with details, you already know the score. The rarest, fattest, nastiest and holy-grailest analog of them all. You know what she does. ;). The sonic six is very much like a minimoog model D bred with some very west-coast buchla style waveshaping and crazy modulation routing. VERY modular and crazy sounding, and capable of making some extremely otherworldly sounds.

Cosmetially, the synth is in stunning vintage shape, with only the lightest exterior wear one expects of a well loved, well played and well cared for classic synth of this age and pedigree. She has spent all of her life in the studio.

This monster will be perfect for the studio or pro for whom the real thing really matters, and no substitutions will do. The real thing. This is a problem free, no nonsense gem example of one of the rarest, and the most classic synth in history. Enjoy!"

CASIO PT-7 w/ Original Box

via this auction
2nd one this month

"Near Mint Condition Casio PT-7 with Original Box, Operation Manual and Brand New Batteries Included (instrument with tiny polyphonic touch sensor keypad & analogue rhythm)

This is clearly one of the most bizarre and innovative instruments created by Casio, because this tiny thing has a detachable keyboard with 29 soft touch foil keys, and this is not just a monophonic toy tablehooter but a real 8 note(!) polyphonic instrument with analogue rhythm and a small but high quality loudspeaker that makes a very respectable organ sound.

This strange Casio invention permits special play techniques with very rapid glissandos and was one of the forgotten milestones in the struggle of overcoming the clumsy piano key relic on electronic consumer instruments.

Yamaha Tenori-on TNR-O Synthesizer Sequencer Midi Controller w/ Original Box

via this auction

"It's basically one of the most fun & innovative electronic music production hardware/instruments I've used. You can use it's inbuilt sounds or import your own samples. You can connect MIDI and use the sequencer as master/slave or a controller etc etc. It can be as easy or as deep as you want it to be.

Here's an excerpt from Wikipedia:

'The Tenori-on is an electronic musical instrument designed and created by the Japanese artist Toshio Iwai and Yu Nishibori of the Music and Human Interface Group at the Yamaha Center for Advanced Sound Technology. It consists of a hand-held screen in which a sixteen-by-sixteen grid of LED switches are held within a magnesium plastic frame. Any of these switches may be activated in a number of different ways to create sounds. Two built-in speakers are located on the top of the frame, as well as a dial and buttons that control the type of sound and beats per minute produced.'"

Roland SVC-350 Vocoder SN 212057

"This vocoder is in good/ decent overall pre-owned cosmetic condition especially considering it's age. Signs of wear include surface scratches, scuffs and dirt/ dust residue from normal use and storage. Nothing too major. There is a mark on the top of it from what looks like an old sticker that was on this unit. A few rubber pieces missing from the frequency sliders.

Would benefit some from a good cleaning.
Powers up immediately."

VCV Rack & Arturia's KeyStep - First Patch

Published on Feb 21, 2019 Omri Cohen

"So this is another step towards building a live setup with VCV Rack. I wanted a small and portable keyboard, with cv outputs, and the KeyStep from Arturia was the perfect choice for me. The keys feel good, and the sequencer and arpeggiator are beautiful. Here, I'm using the KeyStep as the master clock by sending the actual sync output to Clocked in VCV Rack. The KeyStep is sequencing the new synth module Interzone, and I also utilize the Mod Strip to modulate the pitch of another voice. I also use the Midilar controller to control the mixer, the Topograph, and other parameters in VCV Rack like delay time and the cutoff point of Interzone's filter. This is literally the first patch I've built with using the KeyStep, and it was very intuitive and fun."

Xhun Audio LittleOne - review and demo

Published on Feb 21, 2019 SynthMania

"Review and demo of the LittleOne synthesizer software. You can get this plugin here: https://www.xhun-audio.com"

"LittleOne is a faithful software emulation of one of the most legendary and appreciated hardware analog synthesizers, compact in design but also extremely powerful and expressive.

In addition to an accurate re-creation of the original signal path, every single component inside LittleOne (oscillators, filter, envelopes, etc.) prove the same original architecture, frequency response and operative range of its analogue hardware counterpart, producing a deep, rich and warm sound.

Add to the equation a full rack with a 16-step analogue sequencer, a 16-step trancegate effect, two insert/master effects slots and the result is a complete, true-analogue-sounding setup within the comfort of a modern digital studio.

Moogfest 2019 Announces GAS, Kimbra, Tim Hecker & The Konoyo Ensemble, Martin Gore, Matthew Dear +more for its initial lineup

via Moogfest

Durham, N.C. [February 21, 2019] – Celebrating the 15th year since its inaugural event in 2004, Moogfest returns to Durham, NC on April 25–28 to honor the innovative spirit of sonic pioneer Bob Moog. The first wave of Moogfest’s 2019 lineup celebrates artists from the festival’s 15 year run, introduces new talent who are creating the sounds of tomorrow, and reaffirms the intimate, artist-attendee connection for which the festival is known.

Joining Moogfest’s electronic odyssey for the first time are GAS, the best-known alias of hyper-prolific composer and Kompakt co-founder Wolfgang Voigt; polymathic songwriter and producer Kimbra; and Herzblut Recordings founder and techno producer Stephan Bodzin. Moogfest welcomes back ambient experimentalist Tim Hecker, who will be joined by The Konoyo Ensemble, idiosyncratic electronic composer Matthew Dear, and Swedish techno minimalist The Field. Moogfest again explores the boundaries between artist and audience through an interactive daytime program of workshops, masterclasses, and two-way conversations. This year features a creative exchange with Martin Gore of Depeche Mode.

As a platform for sonic experimentation, Moogfest invites artists to express themselves in new formats and debut new works. This year will see the return of the staple longform Durational Performances. Noise veterans A Place to Bury Strangers and IDM artist, sound designer and coder Richard Devine will each present four-hour performances. Iconoclastic ambient and musique concrΓ¨te composer William Basinski, who has sampled the sounds of black holes colliding, will lead this year’s Sleep Concert.

Also joining the 2019 lineup are songwriter, beatmaker and label boss Suzi Analogue; avant garde composer Lucrecia Dalt; R&B futurist Ouri; upstart Raleigh-born rapper and producer Mez; darkwave duo Minimal Violence; polyglottic analog synth-pop artist Ela Minus; post-rave renegade and modular enthusiast Baseck; pop experimentalist Meghan Remy’s project U.S. Girls; breakout film score composer Drum & Lace; sound designer LP Giobbi; electro-thrash provocateurs Fartbarf, interdisciplinary performance artist Lisa E. Harris; visual artist and producer Debit; and techno DJ, producer and Fever Am label owner Mor Elian.

Moogfest’s unique format of daytime presentations and nighttime performances also offers an unprecedented platform for artistic discovery, inviting audiences to step inside the creative machine and learn the process behind the production. Two artists at the forefront of artistic education, Cuckoo and Mylar Melodies, will each lead workshops and performances. With a special focus on output that blurs divisions and defies categorization, the festival also welcomes the thought-provoking work of multimedia musician and comic McQueen.

Upcoming announcements will complete the full 2019 performer and presenter lineup and detail the wide range of experiences attendees can look forward to at Moogfest including this year’s Spatial Sound performances and artist-led workshops. At Moog’s Pop Up Factory, Engineer Workshop passholders will delve into synthesis at the foundational level and come away with their own hand-built, limited-edition, unreleased Moog synthesizer. Durham’s American Tobacco Campus will once again host interactive music technology exhibitions in the Modular Marketplace, including the Moog Circuit Bending Challenge and the presentation of this year’s Moog Innovation Award. World-renowned instrument designers, futurists, creatives, entrepreneurs, scientists, pioneering educators and thought leaders from across the social spectrum will participate in keynotes and daytime presentations that will complement local artist programming and free outdoor events open to audiences of all ages.

Now in its 15th year, Moogfest continues to distinguish itself as the destination festival for the synthesis of music, art, and technology. A limited number of tickets remain on sale. More info is available at Moogfest.com.

Bent by Sinevibes - Korg multi engine plugin

Published on Feb 20, 2019 Sinevibes

"Bent is an oscillator plugin for Korg’s multi engine. It implements a novel synthesis method called 'bent-wave frequency modulation', developed by Sinevibes." Priced at $29.

via Sinevibes

Bent is an oscillator plugin for Korg’s multi engine. It implements a novel synthesis method called “bent-wave frequency modulation”, developed by Sinevibes. Bent combines a classic modulator-carrier pair of sine oscillators with a unique “bender” module which changes the modulator signal’s curvature, phase, and time symmetry. Despite the “FM” part, bent-wave FM produces sounds more akin to a mix of two synchronized and filtered analog oscillators – with smooth, elastic waveform morphing. Due to its specific density and rounded curvature, Bent also forms a perfect symbiosis with Korg’s resonant low-pass filter, creating sounds with incredible plasticity.

SPECIFICATIONS

Two sine oscillators with unique module that “bends” curvature, phase, and time symmetry before the frequency modulation stage.
Five different output waveforms with variable shape and harmonic balance.
Built-in lag filters for noise-free, ultra-smooth parameter adjustment and modulation.
Built-in LFO with widely adjustable frequency (0.1 to 10 Hz).
Built-in envelope generator with widely adjustable attack and decay times (1 ms to 10 s).
