TAL Sampler Digital Collection Vol.3 | Roland Jupiter-8

video by Espen Kraft

"The Roland Jupiter-8, a highly sought after 8 voice poly synth. Capable of very powerful sounds, thick fat basses, lush strings and much more.
Now available for the TAL Sampler.

Now I have meticulously sampled all my best original sounds from this classic. I've taken 5 or 6 samples of each sound and put together multi sampled patches to get that detuned "oscillator drift" feeling as you play through the octaves. Not TOO many multi samples as the whole point is to take creative advantage of the sampler artifacts, what makes samplers so '80s' in the sound.

Get the patches here:

"Here’s a one-of-a-kind Juno 106, recently refurbished by Synth Spa in Tennessee. I had this color scheme created to match my Nords as well as a full refurbish with new voice chips, grounded power connection and cleaning and replacing any pots/sliders that needed it. The synth works perfectly with absolutely no issues whatsoever. Every light works, every fader is smooth, all voices are 100%. Now onto the not so great...

There are two cosmetic blemishes to note. The low C and G keys have small chips in the front edges of them. This was overlooked during the refurb and I didn’t notice it for a couple months afterwards. The second is the end pieces could have been drilled a bit cleaner. You can see the natural wood color in the mounting holes and if you get really close, the edges aren’t perfectly smooth. All obviously cosmetic, but needed to be pointed out.

I had Synth Spa start this project during September 2018 and did not receive the synth back until May 2019. Because of this, I was just grateful to finally have it back and hit the road, not noticing the imperfections until a couple months later. Since it took over $1200 and 10 months of back and forth to get the synth completed, I didn’t want to send it back and risk them having it for an extended period of time again, so I just decided to deal with the blemishes. This is not a knock on Synth Spa, they do excellent work and mistakes can happen. The synth was delivered to me literally the morning I was hitting the road and the timing to have the issues fixed just didn’t make sense for me.

A final disclaimer - the color is not a 100% perfect match to a Nord. The red overlay, grey and black buttons and the black chassis are all pretty much exact, but the end pieces are a slightly different shade of red. Cant notice it from more than a few feet away and definitely can’t notice it under stage lighting."

Joe Zawinul in rehearsal 1985 - Raw Footage

video by Estel Dillon

Some studio time with Joe Zawinul and his synths. See the comments below for some gear spotting.

"Joe Zawinul-recorded summer 1985; raw tape-no edits. In the summer of 1985, I was working at a television network as a photographer/editor. For one segment of a multi-part series on jazz music, I was fortunate to spend a day with Joe Zawinul, shooting his rehearsal and interviewing him about his long career. I saved some of the tape and decided to post it for his fan's enjoyment. Unfortunately, the tape of his main interview is lost. But what remains is interesting. Joe Zawinul was and remains a master musician. He was also a very nice guy. After the shoot was finished, his wife served us all some gumbo and Joe brought out a bottle of Slivovitz, which we finished. After that, the real stories began! What a great day that was!"

Update:

I'm guessing this was for his album Di•a•lects - via Wikipedia:

Di•a•lects is an album by Joe Zawinul that was released in 1986. It was created by Zawinul alone with his programmed synths and rhythm machines, using vocoders on his own vox and importing Bobby McFerrin’s improvised onomatopoetics and a vocal trio singing in a Zawinul-created language on other tracks."[2] The AllMusic reviewer concluded, "This is an important, overlooked album because it proves that electronic instruments can reach your emotions and shake your body when played by someone who has bothered to learn how to master them."[1]

How to Make the Dream Suite Patch with the Prophet 6

video by Synthetic World 859

"I had some requests for this patch, so here it is! It's a two-oscillator vintage-mode monster that has a classical, almost orchestral sound to it- until you add in the LFO and tilt it out! I pulled out all the stops for this one, adding in aftertouch and showing you some tricks for changing the patch up as you play."

Prophet vs Prophet - The Results (and what we discovered)

video by Alex Ball

Curious if he used the REV3 filter setting on the REV4 or the REV4 filter. Either way, they both sound great to me. Great comparision.
Update via Alex Ball: Curtis / rev3 throughout.

"This is a follow up to this video from last week: [posted here]

The answers were:
1A Rev 4 / 1B Rev 3
2A Rev 4 / 2B Rev 3
3A Rev 4 / 3B Rev 3
4A Rev 3 / 4B Rev 4
5A Rev 3 / 2B Rev 4
6A Rev 4 / 3B Rev 3
7A Rev 4 / 7B Rev 3
8A Rev 3 / 8B Rev 4

148 people gave a full set of 9 answers and out of 1,332 individual answers 740 (55%) were correct and 592 (45%) were incorrect.

In this video I explain that in a little more detail and talk about what we discovered that's of note.

Thanks for watching."

Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit at Pier 36 - New York

video by Luca Longobardi

I thought this was pretty cool. You might have heard about this exhibit online and/or via the news. It turns out Luca Longobardi did the soundtrack for it. His synth videos have been featured here on the site , a couple of which were from Polyend.

"Our Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit opens today in New York and you can't imagine how much I wanted to be there! Because New York is the city that gave me, in my years of studies there, the awareness of how much music could give and do for people." Knowing that from today in the City, (a lot!) people will listen to the soundtrack I wrote for our show makes me happy and excited. Today I feel my heart full of joy!"

Custom Presets for Moog DFAM. Techno Generator. Bass, Lead, Perc, Generative. Sound Demo. No Talking

video by Anton Anru

"«Techno Generator» is a collection of 50 patches for Moog DFAM: 15 Basses, 15 Leads, 15 Percs, and 5 Generative patches.
🎧 Get the soundset: https://bit.ly/3x756yg

Though the title includes «Techno», the patches may be used in a wide variety of genres. Techno is just the first thing comes in my mind when I tweak and listen to DFAM. Analog phatness, experimental sounds, huge basses, vivid leads, freaky sequences, electronic drums, generative patches work nicely not only in techno, they will decorate any track where a decent sound design is welcome.

Each page contains notes that explain how the patch works, what parameters worth tweaking during the playback, how to develop the timbre during a performance. If you make all the settings consciously and try the things mentioned in the notes, you will learn lots of things about the synth and discover its true depth.

There are audio examples of all patches inside the folder with the soundset.
To recreate these presets you need up 5 patch cords.

Monome Teletype | First Patch

video by Cinematic Laboratory

"It's been nine (!) days since my last video and that's because I had to rebuild my production PC - and learn a few Teletype commands. The Teletype may not be for everyone, but if you're not afraid of writing some code, this thing will be able to do some amazing stuff. Highly recommended for generic unpredictable patches. I learned a lot from Zsa Zsa Roboto's channel which provides really useful coding tips and great music and the Monome tutorials are super. This will definitely become a series!"

"Roland's SH series, the top model SH-7, which is a rare and rare vintage item and is still extremely popular!

Roland's best-selling product at the time was this SH series!

The biggest feature of this model is that 2VCO can be used as polyphonic!

The same goes for the ARP ODYSSEY, and it was a valuable synthesizer that could play chords!

The waveform is larger and the range is wider than the SH-5, NOISE also has built-in pink and white, and is also equipped with a ring modulator and SAMPLE & HOLD!

ENV also has 2 ADSR systems, and the filters are high-pass and low-pass, making it possible to create detailed sounds!

The slightly sloping panel design is the most sophisticated layout in the SH series, making it easy to create sounds while being complicated!

Equipped with CV / GATE IN / OUT on the back, it can be connected to other models!

It can be used for a wide range of purposes such as bass, lead, and SE, and is a masterpiece that many people choose as the best synthesizer!

Accessories include a hard case and a manual!

This is a recommended product!"

Roland Juno 6 Analogue Synthesizer Demo Doodle - No Talking!

video by T O N E L A B

"In this demo we take a look at a classic analogue synth from 1982... The Roland Juno 6, a rich sounding, yet basic synth.. a very modest single oscillator one may agree. 6-note polyphony, no MIDI, no USB (well.. it IS from 1982!), no saving of sounds.. you're lucky you get 61 keys with it! ..however, there is an External Clock-input... which provides the on-board 'Arpeggiator' with a single note 'trigger' from an external device such as the Roland TR-808 or TR-909... or, alternatively.. something more modern like a MultiClock from E-RM.

This demo was taken from the end of my full Juno 6 tutorial here: [below]

First half of this demo is a virtual 'walk-thru' of the features.. or 'view-torial' if you prefer?! ...then the 2nd half is some 'noodling' around with the Valhalla Shimmer Reverb for added 'drama'.. which gives the Juno 6 a very 'Blade Runner' esque... frothy sound and feel."
