VAI 40 : Solton Disco 64

video upload by Vintage Audio Institute Italia

"Another video of this rare bird - the Solton Disco 64.
This is one take and two overdubs if we remember correctly - it's really fun and easy to improvise on and then use the same machine to do overdubs - you can play the sections as monophonic / polyphonic synthesizers as well as having the auto-accompaniment generating the sounds.
The sounds themselves might not be the most interesting, but the complete sum of its parts makes for a fun instrument, and external effects do help as well.
This was the predecessor of the Solton Programmer 24 and some of the sounds and the drum machine is featured in the the first model Solton Polyvox as well."

John Carpenter - Escape From New York (Agile Kind Mix)

video upload by Paul Louth

"I got my Prophet 10 a few hours ago, this is a test of what it can do with a score that was well known for using the original Prophet 5. I didn't try to recreate the sounds exactly, this is more aggressive than the original, but it shows off the synth more. I played around with the vintage setting on the various sounds to get that melancholic, detuned, and organic sound that the original Prophet 5 was well known for.

It was mixed pretty quickly, so it's probably a bit muddy, but still this sounds great for a few hours of playing around."

Classic Drum Machine sounds for the Sequential TOM | UPDATE

video upload by Espen Kraft

"The Sequential TOM drum machine, one of the coolest drum machines of the 80s and very advanced for its time. The cartridge port in the front made/makes it very easy to use 3 party drums. Today I check out the 8-in one classic cart from HKD.design. Linndrum, DMX and others all rolled into one."

See this post for an additional demo and link to the cart. You can find additional HKA Design posts here.

"SYNTH is a modular FM synthesizer, based on eurorack physical format it has however no patch cables on the front but has rather midi and audio jacks in the back.

This product includes 1 front panel and the 2 necessary back pcb.

Colour option:
You have the choice of simple black (1 side) or bicolour (2 sides, just flip it) black/white or black/aluminum.

Note that the white is done with the silkscreen layer and the 'aluminum' is done with the copper layer so it is not perfectly flat as shown on pictures compare to the black that is the base board colour.

I took the photos on an angle on purpose to increase the imperfections, however they are not as strong when looking the panel straight."

BLEASS Introduces Granulizer - granular texture effect plugin

video upload by BLEASS

BLEASS Granulizer | How to merge 4 instruments into a unique granular texture (Desktop)
video upload by BLEASS

"BLEASS Granulizer is an effect that fragments its input signal into a multitude of grains, each grain having its own randomized properties. It results in complex and irregular textures adding to the original sound a living and organic feeling. Thanks to multi-input, we offer the possibility to extract grains from up to 4 different sources, each grain being randomly extracted from one of the sources. This approach multiplies the complexity and richness of the resulting texture.

The Input Stage allows you to choose between a low-shelf or high-pass filter (to filter out the bass frequencies from input) as well as a gain adjustement.

BLEASS Granulizer takes up to 4 sources from different busses as inputs (compatible DAW required). When multiple busses are on, each grain is randomly extracted from one of the available sources.

The Granulizer generates short samples (‘grains’) from different input signals by modulating different parameters which you can visualize thanks to the 3D Visualizer.

Volume
Pan (represented by width in the visualizer)
Size ( = grain’s duration)
Density ( = frequency of grains generation)
Offset ( = the amount of time between record and play represented by the depth in the 3D visualizer)
Backward/Forward Playback Direction
Shape ( = grain’s envelope, represented by the height dimension in the visualizer)
Warmth ( = strength of the distortion applied to the grain)
Tune ( = grains can be pitched up or down according to different modes: “Fine” / Chromatic / Major / Minor / 5th / Major 7th. / Minor 7th / Octave and other tuning modes such as dim / Dom / Maj 7th Chords)
The amount of randomization can be set with the “dice” knobs.
Density, grain size and offset range can be freely synced or beat synced to the host’s tempo."

We'll continue in the next video."

The Ultimate CPC MIDI Soundcard - Standalone CPC MIDI Playback

video upload by Michael Wessel

"Another update from the Ultimate CPC MIDI Soundcard project: We can now record and playback MIDI streams from CPC memory! A number of standalone MIDI song fragments demonstrate the sonic range and MIDI bandwidth of the card. I think it is fair to say that this card represents a breakthrough and pinnacle in providing MIDI capabilities to the Amstrad CPC. If you are interested in purchasing one, please drop me a note, but I have very limited stock. The DSK files (ULTMIDI.DSK and ULTMIDI2.DSK) are in the GitHub repo: https://github.com/lambdamikel/BluePi..."

“Flux meets Jupiter-4 12 - More LFO” by Friendly Noise

video upload by Friendly Noise

Flux meets Jupiter-4 episodes

"This is number 12 of a video series combining the best of vintage sound and the best of the modern sequencer technology in eurorack: Roland Jupiter 4 and IO Labs Flux. There will be a new short video every week.

The Jupiter 4 is always recorded in mono, which makes the internal chorus very subtle. Reverb is added in Cubase to make the sound wider. There is no clipping in the recording chain. If you hear anything close to distortion, it’s all in the sound coming out of the Jupiter 4.

The Roland Jupiter 4 has been rediscovered and established as the most full of character among the Roland polyphonic synths. Although limited in number of voices and straight forward sound architecture, it shines with an unique sonic print which no other synth can emulate. There are lots of great video demos and information on the web, so that no detailed description will be provided here. But it’s important to mention some unique features which will be showed extensively in this video series:

- The Jupiter 4 filter goes into self oscillation. Big guys like Yamaha CS-80, Jupiter 8 or Oberheim OBX-a can’t.
- The LFO is fast enough to get into audio range.
- There is a very noticeable internal saturation when the VCA slider is raised.

Don’t expect nice bass sounds and classic analog leads. The Jupiter 4 is perfect for that, but this has already been done before in many records and internet demos. What you are about to hear is the extreme side of the sound. Be prepared for drones, massive low frequencies, cracking saturation, ultra fast notes and unusual scales. Many sounds will remind you of modular synthesizers, but they were all created by direct recording of the Jupiter 4. :-)

In fact, the VCO is switched off and you will be hearing only the self oscillating filter in almost 80% of the video series. Only in the last videos you will hear the VCO. That means that 80% of the sounds you will hear couldn’t be made with other classic polyphonic synths, unless the filter self oscillates.

Luckily this Jupiter 4 was modded with CV and gate inputs and outputs per voice (and then some). Using this level of control per voice you can use the Jupiter 4 as a vintage monophonic synth, or drive individual voices differently. For example, applying vibrato or slide per voice. In this video series, only three voices were used.

The amazing sound of this Jupiter 4 can break the traditional boundaries specially when driven by the Temporal Modulation Synthesis sequencer Flux, made by IOLabs: https://www.tmsynthesis.com/
Flux is the most advanced tool for rhythm creation ever made. Ever. Trying to explain Flux is few words is not possible. Please look for information on the web."
