Zerosum Inertia - BFK9000 Synthesizer Processor.

video upload by NOISEBUG

"The Zerosum Inertia is a synthesizer in a pedal/desktop format that offers some very interesting processing power for external signals. Thus unit can also be used on its own with the external cv input to create melodic synth lines and odd harmonic bass lines.

In this video we play the dry signal first and then bring in the BFK9000 for crushing and processing.

"Loaded with New Old Stock JAN(Joint Army Navy) stamped 6CB6 pentodes designed to meet the high quality and reliability standards of the United States Military.
Manufactured by Sylvania, Philips, Radio Corporation Of America, and General Electric in the 1960’s-1980’s.

Switchcraft jacks and Alpha potentiometers flown on wires and firmly bolted to aluminum enclosure to avoid stress applied to circuit board.

Circuit board attached to enclosure with standoffs again to reduce stress and tension being applied to circuit board.
IC's are socketed, NOT soldered directly to circuit board to make easy replacement later if/when needed.
High quality long life high temperature low impedance electrolytic capacitors from Rubycon and United Chemi-Con.
5% NP0 capacitors in the power section and audio path.
5% metalized polypropylene in the PLL sections.
1% metal film resistors.
High quality 2A/25W medical grade 12v center postive DC power adapter is included. Only use 12v DC center positive power source included.
Engraved enclosure(NO STICKER!!!!)

The BFK9000 is an effects processor designed to process audio signals from your modular synthesizer.
VCO waveforms are an ideal source.
Guitar will also produce interesting results. It is recommended that you patch your guitar into a preamp with an envelope follower before the BFK9000. Crank the gain and then patch the envelope out into the CV input of the BFK9000.
The more gain you hit the audio input with the better the PLL's will track.

The higher the frequency the better the tracking.

Try cranking the PLL frequency to max then patching the output of the BFK9000 into a divider or pitch shifter down an octave or two.
Patch LFO's, audio rate VCO's, envelopes, envelope followers, sequencers, random voltages, rhythmic pulses into the CV input.

Signal flow of the BFK9000 is 2 6CB6 pentodes providing gain to drive 2 4046 Phase Locked Loop chips behaving as primitive oscillators in parallel, but not wired up like a traditional PLL you may be familiar with.
There is some conversation going on between the 2 4046's.....Something about an alien transmission of unknown origin scrambled with intermodulation and beating.

Frequency of PLL pitch and amount of PLL influence level for each 4046, 1 set on the left and 1 set on the right.
Tube gain is maxed at full gain, no knob.
1 switch for each PLL that controls the behavior characteristics of each PLL."

"This Micromoog had been modified with lights and a clear face plate to show off the underlying circuit board. One of my all time favorite mono-synths. The ribbon, mod wheel, everything works. It needs a tune up though, would be a good idea to get the caps replaced. Cosmetically, it is in good condition. No major dents or dings to speak of. I have the original face plate but it has a crack in it. I'm happy to take offers or questions if you have either or both."

"Very little use, latest firmware, runs on Raspberry Pi 4B, faster and more memory than OG Norns. Ships with USB-C power adapter and 16gb SD card. The encoders are a little jumpy when turned quickly, and only on the PARAMS page, which I’ve learned is a common issue and can be rectified by editing the appropriate Lua file. Cheers!"

Eurorack Ring Modulators

video upload by John Schussler

"Ring modulation, according to the interwebs, is basically AM modulation (amplitude modulation) that goes through the full cycle. In AM modulation, any frequency below zero simply stops the oscillator. With ring modulation, you're still modulating the amplitude, but when the signal goes below zero volts it inverts the oscillator signal rather than stopping it. This creates a variety of new harmonics.

But those aren't necessarily 'ringing' harmonics. The ring in the name comes from the fact that most ring modulators use a "ring" of 4 diodes one into the other to create the effect.

Here's a sampling of the modules I have at the moment, doing a basic comparison of how their timbres differ. And a few have extra features that I'll try to resist playing with for sake of a fair comparison, but will probably fail in the attempt.

Sequence: Stochastic IG. VCO: Dixie II+ square (carrier) and saw (modulator). Envelope: Zadar

Dreamsynth Quick Minute

video upload by boxoftextures

"New from Cherry Audio.

Only had this a few minutes and already feel totally at home in it. Just made these three patches and wanted to get this out there so folks could get an idea of what it's about. This is the short version just to hear the patches though, the longer version will show how I built them. Might take me a day or three to get that edited though.

This thing's a winner. Three oscillators, each with dual waves with hundreds of choices, three LFOs, easy and flexible modulation and routing, sounds great. It's deep yet at the same time simple to operate. Recommended.

ASM HYDRASYNTH: Microtonal sequencing with step LFOs

video upload by CALUTRON

"The step function of the Hydrasynth's LFOs is a powerful tool. You can use it to create microtonal sequences even without switching to an alternative tuning for the whole synth."

Sequential Artist Spotlight: The Graduating Class

video upload by Sequential

"Portland band The Graduating Class describe their sound as "Anderson .Paak and Daryl Hall going on a three week bender in Quincy Jones’ studio." Stylistically, the group blends modern production techniques with tonal and songwriting influences from the 1970s and 80s, and guitarist John Queant serves as the lead producer on every song.

This video spotlight features John Queant with the Prophet Rev2 and Prophet-5 synthesizers.

Moog Matriarch + Sequential Pro 3 Generative Ambient Dreamscape

video upload by MKDVB

"I could listen to the Moog Matriarch doing its self generative ambient dreamscape music for hours. This time around, I patched in the Sequential Pro 3 for added textural ambient synth goodness. The small eurorack modular rig was all patched up but between the Matriarch, Pro 3 and Microvolt 3900, the soundscape was full enough.

Moog Matriarch - Generative ambient rhythm line and sequences
Sequential Pro 3 - Lead ambient synth sounds
Pittsburgh Modular Microvolt 3900 - Tinkly high ambient synth sounds

Additional plug-in FX in post."

The 808 and 909 clone in ONE box!

video upload by Ricky Tinez

"The Novation DrumStation is probably one of the rarer drum machines or drum rack units i've ever come across. I've wanted one for ages, and they always seem to slip passed me, and eventually i convinced myself i didn't need it. Now that i have it i Love! It uses ASM technology with digitally models analog waveshapes and sounds to recreate the sounds of the original Roland TR-808 and Roland TR-909 drum machines. I think it's an incredible alternative giving you access to both machines at once."

The 80s DREAMSYNTH by Cherry Audio

video upload by Cherry Audio

video upload by Starsky Carr

"A first look at Cherry Audio's novel Dreamsynth. Imagine you're back in the 80s looking at an impenetrable D50 interface and wishing you could afford a Jupiter 8... here we've got an Oberheim style state variable filter, virtual analog oscillators or PCM Samples or single cycle samples, single shot cycles... you get the point,. Plus a really intuitive interface."

Description for the top video:

Ah Kosmos! On The Wall Of Test Equipment

video upload by HAINBACH

"I have been working on a record with @AH! KOSMOS for two months now and its been a blast! Here is the first snippet I can share. She is the first beside me to play my wall of science junk, which makes me rather happy - its nice to see others play your instruments, even if its obsolete machines patches together haphazardly. We will continue work on the record and share more as it comes along."

Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 Plays Bach - BWV 847 (Bach on Analog Synthesizer)

video upload by Jannis Le Wolff

"𝄞 in this video I'm going to to send Bach's Prelude and Fugue in C Minor from the Well Tempered Clavier through my Vermona Perfourmer Mk2 Analog Synthesizer. It became some highly meditative moment, since the Perfourmer adds a lot of character and personality to the timeless genius of Bach.

The first oscillator is playing the left hand (mostly) while the other 3 oscillators play most of the right hand parts, and sometimes also the polyphony.

I used the midi files from Bernd Krueger @ "http://www.piano-midi.de" (thanks a lot for the work!)"
