Tube Distortion In 16hp - Rabbit Hole, Saevitum, Turbo Entubulator

"I have a 16hp hole in the rack waiting for a tube distortion. Which one do I choose?

Here are three options. There are more at this size, but I happen to have these three.

As it turns out, they're all very different in sound. The Turbo Entubulator specializes in flexible tube tone. The Rabbit Hole heads towards tube-y corruption while still staying somewhat civilized. And the Saevitum, well, it's just angry angry angry.

So I don't really have a choice so much as a selection for rotation, I suppose.
But it's interesting to hear them back to back and really get a feel for the differences in their character.

Input audio was a basic sine wave from a Dixie II+. Sequenced by Stochastic IG.

Note this appears to be the first post to feature Apollo View and their Rabbit Hole. The Saevitum by Abyss Devices, and Turbo Entubulator by Epicycloid have been featured before. That said, here's some info on the Rabbit Hole for the archvies, followed by a DivKid video.

Packed to the brim with character, Rabbit Hole is the first module by Apollo View, combining facility as a mixer with four stages of saturation and distortion, provided by both tube and solid-state circuits. With two channels labeled A and B, each offers an input VCA with Gain control and control voltage jack. Channels are summed before hitting the Drive circuit, a solid-state design with hard-clipping tendencies at extreme settings, then moving onto the starved 12AU7 tube section. For truly searing patches, flip on the OWTH switch, short for "Off With Their Heads", and make heads roll with a diode clipping circuit. There's also voicing switches for the tube, feedback capabilities, and the option to expand the number of inputs with the Curiouser module. Grit up your patches with Apollo View's Rabbit Hole.

"So, as some of you might or might not know I have several projects under my musical umbrella. This one is particularly important to me since it was incepted during a very dark period of my life.

As my moniker ulvtharm, I have never released a solo album.. all focus has always been on writing for mz.412. This one however took a lucky (or unlucky) turn into a musical piece that I now am ready to present to the world.

It might not be for everyone following me here on my channel, but please keep an open mind and dont run away.

We’re honoured to present Ulvtharm’s first solo album. Long time collaborator of Nordvargr & Drakh in the legendary Swedish formation MZ.412, “Wrēkō” was incepted when Ulvtharm lived in Malaysia while remotely writing the “Svartmyrkr” album of MZ.412 in 2018. Since “Svartmyrkr” was written over such a long period of time and over a significant geographical distance, there were natural moments of inspiration that radiated away from the MZ.412 sound, moments captured during the ritual sessions. Listening back to some of the raw demos made at the time, it was obvious that some of the tracks did not line up with MZ.412 spiritually, and the idea for an Ulvtharm solo album was born.
Moving back to Sweden in November 2019, the creative process of dissecting and analyzing the demos started. When the pandemic hit, Jouni was thrown into a sleepless blackness for a long time, a mood that made him see the demos in a different light. This helped with re-composing and recording the missing parts, which were finalised in December 2020.
This album is a deep dive into the mind and psyche during a dark time; it's a revenge on the own self for not taking this creative step before, and a celebration of getting out at the tail end of the modern plague. He’s now letting the music and spirits free out into the world for everyone to see and hear. This is his darkness. This is his revenge. This is Wrēkō!

One of my parents favorite songs.
Of course I don't have a huge, old Mellotron from the 60s. I use my Roland M-VS1 'Vintage Synth' module for this, which has wonderful Mellotron samples. In the song I use the sounds: MelloFlute, MelloStrings (3Violins) and two parts of the MelloChoir. The module is controlled by my Oberheim OB-Xk master keyboard controller via MIDI. The other sounds (drums, bass, guitar) come from the E-MU Emax sampling synthesizer

"'Monophonics' is a collection of 49 monophonic presets for Dreadbox Nymphes. It includes: 14 Basses (Banks A and B), 14 Leads (C and D), 14 Plucks (E and F), 7 Chords (G).

The soundset is suitable for many genres: ambient, electronica, IDM, trip-hop, lounge, downtempo, chill out, new age, cinematic, trance, deep, progressive, techno, industrial, breakbeat, breaks, jungle, drum and bass, dub and others.

All presets are Velocity-sensitive and have ModWheel modulations. The presets are dry, I didn't use Nymphes built-in reverb. But you may add any portion of reverb according to your situation, or use third-party effects.

Make sure you are using the latest Nymphes firmware (2.0.1 or higher).

The soundset is in a SYSEX format. It can be sent to the device via regular SYSEX apps, like SysEx Librarian (Mac) or MIDI-OX (Win).

Before sending the presets, make sure you've made a backup. After uploading the new bank, all previous user presets will be erased.

Connect Nymphes to the computer via USB.
Open SysEx app and choose Nymphes in MIDI port settings.
Add .syx file to the app. Drag & Drop or File Open/Add.
Choose this file in the list.
Push Play/Send in the app.
Sending process takes about a minute.
Have fun.

There isn't much to be said which has not already been said. It is the most versatile analog synth ever. It can be used for any purpose and in any context. It is arguably the greatest synth of all time.

This one is in excellent condition, it has been recently serviced and voice chips have been replaced. It would be difficult to find one in such a well-kept condition. It currently resides in a smoke-free home, underneath a soft blanket, but it is time to find a new home for it as im downsizing my studio."

"On September 3rd, 2022, Dutch Modular Fest hit the former Pieter Baan Center in Utrecht. I got some new gear (more coming soon) but I've been blown away by a performance from J. Daniel Cramer (all the way from Canada). He used four (4!) Doepfer A178's to create a polyphonic Krell on a 'tiny' TipTop Mantis case.
(https://www.youtube.com/c/jdanielcramer). I recorded a few snippets of his performance on video so you can be part of it too - and ordered two A178's the days after. So all credits for this idea go to mr. Cramer, Todd Barton and Dieter Doepfer.

I've been wondering if I could translate this concept to my favorite fields of grain: granular synthesis. I took a leap of faith and ordered a second Arbhar. I patched up the two Harvesters with the A178's, Lubadh, QPAS and Mimeophon. So it's still a relatively low module count (I guess 104 HP would do it) but the level of expression is amazing.
