Diy Drum Sampler Nein O Neng Wemos D1 mini

video upload by GlakGlikGluk

"909 style drum" in the editor. The following video description is in Indonesian. You can find a Google translation in English further below.

"Diy Drum Sampler Trigger
Nein O Neng
ESP Wemos D1 mini
.
.
Link :
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jubq...
.

This Drum Module is made with ESP Wemos D1mini Micro controller based on Wav to Code with 16 bit 41kHz PWM Output and max trigger input 3v per channel, I've made a schematic and coding if you want to make it yourself
.
Link :

.
Caution to be careful!
Use a trigger below 3v otherwise you will damage it, in the schematic is not installed trigger switch you can install it yourself
.
If you use a trigger above 3v use a NPN transistor trigger circuit as a gate pin per channel, if using a symmetrical power supply you have to add a schottky diode as input and output gate safety so that there is no negative voltage short circuit
.
My message is keep trying and never give up on learning, remember failure is a process of success and work even if it's messy

Learning Session Feat. NEW Modules FIRE & TAKT, by FLAME!

video upload by Trovarsi

Listen in stereo but be careful with your volume levels. Voice on left channel and drums/percusision audio on right.

"These FLAME Modules were announced at Superbooth 2023! Some of my favorite finds. We'll spend some time exploring them. This will probably be a small series because there are a few others that really jumped out for me as well.

Module Description:
'FIRE' is a full blown 8 track drum & percussion synth, also capable of much more than just drums.

'TAKT' is a compact 30HP Eurorack sequencer module for playing or programming trigger/gate/velocity rhythm sequences."

See this post for a demo at SUPERBOOTH23.

Just trying to get a feel for the JD-800 still. Honestly, it's just too big. I am trading some gear for a JD-990 and wondering what I'll think of that. I feel like I could probably get similar tones from my other gear. So - the JD-800 is on my short list to get rid of, given its size especially. Great synth, but I like the gnarly sounds the D-50 does a little more. Although, I do quite love that the JD-800 has the "Dire Dire Docks" sound from Mario 64. That part is sweet.

"A few weeks ago we asked you about your interest in a replica of the legendary Mutator.
Instead of 19” equipment, many customers asked for a more compact desktop and also a Eurorack version.
We would like to hear your opinion before we move forward. Thank you so much:-)"

Apparently only 1000 original Mutators where released. You can find additional info including demos of the Mutronics Mutator in previous posts here.

MJ’s Thriller Frog Bass - The Search

video upload by Anthony Marinelli Music

"In this video, Anthony begins a light-hearted search to uncover the mystery of the 'Frog Bass' sound that occurs during the break down section of Michael Jackson’s song - 'Thriller'. He’ll discuss why it was recorded, who played it and what the instrument was. Quincy and Michael were always looking for unusual ear-catching sounds during the making of Thriller. Since Quincy was a world class composer, arranger and orchestrator it made sense that he would want to introduce a new sound later in the song to keep the listener surprised. This bright edgy sound is much like adding a bassoon double to a contra-bass part in traditional orchestral music. It adds more presence to the bass part and makes it pop out of the speakers. Anthony meets with his long time friend Steven Ray (co-host of Michael Jackson’s Thriller Album Stories in the Room podcast) to hear his story about the “Frog Bass”. Steven tells us that Quincy had a Casiotone CT-401 and brought that instrument into the studio along with possibly some other portable Casio keyboards to record the “Frog” preset. Anthony also heard that James Ingram may have suggested the sound or it could have been Rod Temperton that had the idea. We know for sure that it was played by Michael’s keyboardist Greg Phillinganes. Anthony confirmed this with Greg, but he was unsure of the actual keyboard model. The search to find more information about this zany sound will continue on this channel until we have exhausted conversations with everyone that was in the room during the making of Thriller. The lesson here is that interesting sounds are all around us and don’t always require expensive vintage synthesizers or even today’s state-of-the-art plugin instruments. Sometimes what we need is sitting right in front of us. And when we use our imaginations in this way, we may stumble upon something remarkable for decades of listeners to ponder.

In this series Anthony breaks down some of the most icons synthesizer patches that he programmed for Michael Jackson’s Thriller

Anthony's musical touch as both composer and performer is connected with some of the most influential creative minds over the last 40 years. He’s composed and conducted original orchestral scores for over 80 feature films including Young Guns, Internal Affairs, The Man From Elysian Fields, 15 Minutes and Planes, Trains & Automobiles, been commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic for his symphonic work "In the Family Way", written over one thousand TV commercials in a myriad of musical styles, co-founded Levels Audio Post (LA's premiere post production facility) and performed and arranged on big-box-office films and influential hit records such as Michael Jackson's Thriller.

His extensive work as a young arranger, orchestrator and performer for Quincy Jones, Jack Nitzsche, Lamont Dozier, Arthur Rubenstein and Giorgio Moroder was vital in launching his own career. His early years pioneering modular analog synthesizers along with his wide-ranging music scholarship positioned Anthony at the center of the music technology revolution. He attended the University of Southern California School of Music as a piano and composition major.

Korg Maxi-Korg 800DV panel controls in detail

video upload by O.Z. Hall

"This is a detailed explanation of the unusual panel controls of the vintage Korg Maxi-Korg 800DV from the 1970s. Some have suggested that it was the best mono synth from the 1970s. It included two full mini-korg 700 synths which provided a lot of sonic potential.

This unit is rare because
1) at that time Korg (sold throughh Univox in the U.S.) was a largely unknown Japanese synth maker.
2) it was the older brother to the Mini-Korg 700(s). The Mini-Korg sold for about $750 in the mid '70s. The Maxi was perhaps twice that price, which meant that it competed with the ARP Odyssey and Mini-moog. It obviously lost that contest in the market.

Check it out in this video! Let me know what you think."

DB-01 sound design from bleedin' obvious to drum phase offset

video upload by Richard DeHove

"Sound design on a one oscillator bass synth? Yes, a surprising amount. A lot is tied up with the sequencer but there are also some pure synth tips in there as well. Some of them, like filter tracking, I've talked about before so perhaps this is like a "best of" compilation. But it still seems to make sense to have them all in one place. For impatient veterans perhaps only the last section on LFO phase will show anything of more hardcore interest.

Behringer Introduces The Smallest Full Featured Synth in History? JT-4000 Micro

video upload by Behringer

"Introducing the Behringer JT-4000 Micro a Portable 4-Voice Hybrid Synthesizer with 2 Analog Modelling Oscillators Per Voice, Analog Filter and Arpeggiator."

New Behringer Micro Line. The JT-4000 is based on the JP-8000. Only 4 voice polyphony vs. 8 though. I still don't understand the 4 voice poly thing, especially when it comes to digital synths. What's interesting is the JP-8000 is a digital software based synth. Aside from the Prophet-VS, Behringer has been mainly focused on cloning discrete analog designs. Discrete analog is typically easier to clone as the components are usually visible and traceable. Not so much with software synths based on code alone. Curious if the "Analog Filter" is analog or digital like the JP-8000.

Welcome to Bad Gear, the show about the world's most hated audio tools. Today we are going to talk about the Polyend Tracker Mini. Does this successor to the original Tracker and compact sampler, sequencer, groovebox and dawless centerpiece with its gameboy controls and compact form factor even make sense or is it another hipster toy with its field recording features? Is it the "Tracker Field" as Teenage Engineering might have called it?

Thanks to Polyend for sending me a demo unit as a long term loan.

ROLAND S-1 - ONE SYNTH CHALLENGE

video upload by Alba Ecstasy

"3 BANKS / 196 PATCHES for Roland SH-01a ๐Ÿ‘‰https://www.albaecstasy.ro/roland-sh-...

I think (therefore I am!) I never used a synth that much - seven parts! - to make a One Synth Challenge episode!
What can come out of this little box, you won't believe!
And it's only day two since the S-1 arrived!

Each part is programmed (patch & sequence) and recorded one right after each other.
It took me longer to compile all the videos (almost the entire day), than to make and record the actual song!

All you hear is Roland S-1. And of course, drums from the Roland SH-4d. I could make some percussion sounds with the S-1, but I considered the track deserves some really nice drums!

Please keep in mind, if there any audio-video mismatching (especially that last lead that starts at 4:40), is because my very-very old Macbook Pro (11 yo!) can't handle very well 9 video parts and I kind of had to guess the timestamps!

Enjoy!
