Sitting in front of my newly acquired S6, and wow! U.D.O have nailed it with this! I am as usual, just becoming familiar with the instrument, and so far Im loving the sound of it. Undoubtably is going to be fantastic for binaural pads etc, but the envelopes are super snappy and the drive on the filter gives it some real grunt!
I just thought I'd share this patch I created this afternoon. I'm going to have fun with this one :) -

Moog Sound Studio: DFAM + Mother-32 Generative Patches. Demo

"Welcome to the soundset for a semi-modular system Moog Sound Studio: DFAM + Mother-32.
'DM Generative' is a collection of 25 patches. This genre of sound design is very popular inside modular culture, and Moog Sound Studio suggests a good set of features to enter this club.
Controlled chaos and randomness, probability, non-repetitiveness, tempo break, pattern uniqueness, short and long sounds alternation, unexpected changes, silence and density, harmonic and fx-like tones, freaky splashes during a sequence - all these things are included in the soundset.
That was a hard work. Each patch took me up to 2 hours. I tried to find interesting combinations of settings and patching. Hope you will enjoy the results.

Generative timbre may be a good addition to (or a lead part of) ambient or techno tracks, jams and performances. You may also record fragments into your DAW or sampler, slice it to one-shots or make loops - you’ll get a unique material for further processing.
The main point of the soundset is the high level of interconnection. In this patchbook, the timbres of the synths are soldered and can’t exist separately:
🔸 they modulate each other with LFO and Envelopes
🔸 a sequence from one synth change parameters on the other one
🔸 gates and triggers interact to break predictable patterns
🔸 audio signals from VCOs may be used as modulation sources to create harmonies/intervals or - crazy experimental inharmonic tones
🔸 or they may be used just as audio sources sent to the other synth for processing with its different filter and envelope, giving them a 'second life’.
The soundset is presented in PDF format. Each page contains notes that explain how the patch works, what parameters are worth tweaking during playback, and how to develop the timbre during a performance. If you make all the settings consciously and try the things mentioned in the notes, you will learn a lot about the synths and discover their true depth.
To recreate these patches, you need up to 15 patch cords.
There are audio examples of all patches inside the folder with the soundset. Audio examples for a patch are presented in three variants: DFAM only, M32 only, and both together.
The patches don't include Mother-32 patterns.
For the video demo, I added delay and reverb to the synths and background pads to put the timbres into a musical context.

1980s Echo text-to-speech synthesizer on the IMSAI 8080

"I recently was given a 1980s-era Echo PC voice synthesizer box with serial port interface. You simply send text to the both over the serial port and it speaks it. It uses the same chip as the old 1970s Texas Instruments speak and spell.
I figured out how to access TTY2 on the back of my newly completed IMSAI 8080 kit. Using XYBASIC, I wrote a program to speak various well known phrases from misbehaving computers featured in several scifi movies, including War Games, of course.
Accessing the TTY2 serial port on the back of the replica must be done by outputting a byte at a time to port 34. The default TTY2 baud rate was already 9600, matching that of the Echo PC. There is no handshaking. All must be coded manually. The Echo box has a very small character buffer and sends an XOFF command when the buffer fills and a XON when it clears. I check for those conditions in the BASIC program with some simple loops. Hardware handshaking on port 35 could be done, but the flag bit definitions are not well documented.
I set the cadence, pitch and inflection lower than default with a flat inflection that enhances understandability.
I also read the front panel switches to trigger the various phrases."

Two Takes on Behringer - Which Do You Fall Under?
The following videos feature two perspectives on Behringer. I was going to skip both of them, because honestly, I'm kind of tired of the whole thing, but I figure it was worth posting for those unaware of the toatality of it. Jorb does a good job summarizing it all. Note, this will be the last post on the topic, unless something else new and stupid happens.
I do want to clarify what goes up here on MATRIXSYNTH and why. Firstly this site is about the gear, not people. People can have whatever opinions they want. Secondly, this site does factor in how people including manufacturers treat each other. I post what I want to post, and after running this site for over 18 years, I've come to appreciate those who appreciate the site and what I do. Supporting members let me know they appreciate the site by supporting the site. Banner sponsors on the top and right of the site let me know they appreciate the site by sponsoring the site.
Behringer does not support or sponsor the site, and I am aware that they pose a significant and existential threat to some of my supporters and sponsors. So, why do I sometimes feature Behringer? Because this is a synth news site and is meant to be an archive of synth gear over time. I can't just ignore that. So what do I feature? I limit Behringer posts to new product announcements, significant news, and supporting member videos and content only. I skip everything else.
As for sponsors and supporting members, I share whatever they want me to share, within reason, as a thank you for supporting the site. As for non supporting members and sponsors, I share what I want to share. Some clarity on that: when I first launched the site in 2005 I posted everything anyone sent in and everything I came across. I remember going to NAMM and someone working for one the manufacturers asked me if I thought eurorack would take off or was just a fad. It was that new. I thought it would take off, and it did. That said, it's no longer possible to post everything that goes up as it would just become too much noise in the end. I'm sure the amount I post daily is already noise to many. So, now I post what I want to post, and yes, how a manufacturer treats others is always factored in.

A patch technique for layering sound // first patch with the Eowave Tempete Magnetique

"Here we have what was my literal first patch with the Tempête Magnetique from Eowave. I really loved the Fluctuations Magnetique from Eowave and it was nice to see them build on that with the new module. While patching the filter I used a technique that I often do which is layering two sounds from a single oscillator into two filters with different modulation to get the sounds layered and dancing around each other. That technique is what we're exploring here.

You can use this, for example, to split your keyboard into two voices, playing one voice with one hand and a second voice with the other. But, it can be exciting to use for splitting sequences between multiple voices, adding variation and movement to even a simple sequence."

"Doepfer Dark Energy MK I, the first model with the legendary and since discontinued Curtis chips. It was based on the Doepfer MS-404 which was a TB 303 adjacent synth with its own character. Suffice to say it can do some blistering acid leads, but this thing is extremely versatile, check the posted videos for what I mean.
This is a a compact and powerful monophonic analog synthesizer. Known for its robust build, intuitive interface, and rich sound, the Dark Energy is an excellent tool for both studio musicians and live performers. "This Akai AX-80 came to me with the dreaded membrane buttons not working. I had my synth tech go thru it with a fine toothed comb. He re-flowed all the solder on all the circuit boards for the buttons, recapped the power supply, & upgraded the EPROM with the latest OS/Firmware that allows you to upload individual SYSEX files via MIDI, and replaced the battery. I also made some new custom end cheeks from 50 year old cedar that I had on hand, clear coated with poly. Original cheeks included. Plays great, although it is a vintage (40 year old) unit and has it’s quirks. Factory banks loaded as well as User A & B loaded with custom patches (a few sound like Yazoo and Depeche Mode patches!) This is is a fantastic old synth and especially sounds great through some reverb and delay! You won’t find a fully functioning one this nice very easily."

The Behringer JT-4000 MICRO is a portable 4-voice hybrid synthesizer that offers unparalleled sound possibilities. With its two analog modeling oscillators per voice and authentic 12-bit DAC, this synthesizer reproduces the warm and natural sound of the 90s classic virtual analog engine, including the iconic Supersaw waveform that made it a legend in techno and trance. "We believe that the Black Stereo Reverb and the Black Stereo Delay 2 will significantly expand the FX palette on any modular system. Instead of a generic multi-FX approach, we decided to develop dedicated modules with extended controls over the most important parameters – FX design powerhouses.
Timeline:
00:02 - Patch 1 / Chord sample through Delay and Reverb
01:35 - Patch 2 / Drum break sample through Delay and Reverb
02:25 - Patch 3 / VCO II fed into the Reverb with feedback set to maximum to create continuous sound
04:08 - Patch 4 / Drum sample sent through Delay and Reverb which are modulated with the synced Octasource
05:16 - Patch 5 / Sample sent through the Delay on which different delay types are selected
06:40 - Patch 6 / Switching between different saved patches on the delay with the Sequencers MOD lane
07:32 - Patch 7 / Randomly selecting samples on the Sample Drum and saved presets on the Delay and Reverb modules
08:29 - Patch 8 / FM radio through the Delay and Reverb
09:51 - Patch 9 / Using the dry signal as a sidechain source on the Compressor with Reverb set to max wet setting
10:28 - Patch 10 / Playing drum breaks through Delay and pad sound through Reverb while modulating the FX settings with Sequencers mod lane
11:52 - Patch 11 / Wavetable VCO sent through VCA which is modulated with the phase shifted LFOs from the Octasource and then fed into the Delay and Reverb
The modules run on new Erica Synths DSP hardware and the effects are developed in collaboration with Dutch company 112.dB who make some of the most beautiful sounding effects."
