"Lost and Found" feat. Peter MacLean & Mike Tucker

video upload by Jeremy Parker

"This original composition features the incredible Peter MacLean (Maceo Parker) on drums and Mike Tucker (Arturo Sandoval) on tenor saxaphone as special guests. I wrote the core of this tune for the @rhodesmusic Missing Keys contest, as the backing track for James Smith's @YardActBand spoken word. I was spurred on by the challenge to write something specific, and I liked the vibe of what I came up with enough to finish it off as a complete song on its own. So I constructed some melodies, sax solo section and put an arrangement together for this special rendition with Peter and Mike sitting in, doing the magical things that they do.

Follow Mike here: https://www.instagram.com/miketuckersax/
Follow Pete here: https://www.instagram.com/makshimach/

I used my Rhodes MKIII EK10 which I restored a few years ago: [posted here]

Then I also used the Funk Bass sound from my Korg Opsix, a ring-mod solo lead I made on my miniKORG 700fs, and various sounds from my Arturia Polybrute.

Here's my original entry to the Rhodes Missing Keys contest, so you can hear where it came from:

GRP A8 The GRP A8 is one of the physically largest synthesisers ever made

video upload by JIAWEI

"The GRP A8 is one of the physically largest synthesisers ever made. Only 23 intsruments were produced - 22 for the production line and one designer Roman Groppioni Paolo made for his own personal use. The GRP A8 is completely pre-wired, with a huge number of switches and knobs to change the many parameters available at every stage of the signal flow. It consists of two completely identical (upper and lower)synthesizer systems It can be used as a mono (6 VCOs), duo (2x3 VCOs) or poly (2x3 VCOs) synth. The difference between the two-part DUAL and POLY modes is that in the first case a common MIDI channel controls both sounds at the same time. In POLY, on the other hand, two separate MIDI channels can be selected. Its LFOs have an enormous frequency range from low frequency to 1700 Hertz."

Techno Foundations THREE - Novation Circuit Tracks Pack by Techtronix

video upload by Isotonik Studios

"Techno is a genre responsible for many hardware choices by both manufacturers and artists a like.
Techno is not only a strong genre in its self, but it's also pushed forward the advance in both
production values and synthesis techniques for others, leaving itelf as the backbone of what we call electronic music.

Techno Foundations 3 is a sea of Patchwork, making it easy for you to craft your favourite type of techno, without being bound by macro positions or lack of useful drum sounds.

Modern techno is based heavily on Frequency Modulation, so you will find at least 16 fm patches dedicated to this.

Plucky fm bass stabs that can be used as reese's, and strong fm leads that cut through the mix with texture that seemed to be illusive to the circuit eco system up until now.

These have been synthesized using my personal techniques as the circuit synth engine doesn't natively support fm. expect to hear something you havn't heard on the tracks before.

True Frequency modulation

With consistent Macro's with the first three knobs being the magic ones the rest are mapped to what you would expect.

TECHNO FOUNDATIONS THREE CONTENTS

128 patches including
16 pads
48 leads
8 fm bass stabs
8 fm leads
8 arps
16 bass warps
and plenty more
64 samples
16 kicks
8 hi hat
8 claps and snares
8 growl/fx
8 chord stabs
8 fm bass s
tabs
8 techno screams "vocals"

First Contact - Ambient Trance | Novation Circuit Tracks first time jam

video upload by End2End

"After a couple of hours spent familiarizing myself with the new arrival and watching Novation's excellent introductory tutorials, here is my first jam with Circuit Tracks.

Before recording the video I only chose the patch for each track (the two internal synths and the 4 drum tracks) from the built in pack.

It was all very fun and surprisingly intuitive, even if I still have to get the hang of it....

I have separated the video into chapters (like a mini tutorial) so that you can more easily follow the process of creating this little jam...."

00:00 Synth 1: make a drone pad using the "gate"
00:16 Drum 1: set a steady 4/4 pattern sequence
00:25 Drum 3: record hi-hats live and then adjust the pattern sequence

HEXINVERTER VCNO & MINDPHASER NOW AVAILABLE

3 Patches for Complex Oscillators // Mindphaser from Hexinverter & Erica Synths (Eurorack demo)

video upload by DivKid

"In this video we’ll look at 3 patches that you can apply to the complex oscillators in your life. I’ll be using the new Mindphaser from Hexinverter, now made by Erica Synths (more on that below), but you can use any Buchla 259 style complex/dual oscillator to apply these ideas. Do let me know in the comments if you give any of these patches a try and share your favourite ways to patch complex oscillators too.

I’ll be working on a full demo on the Mindphaser in the future, so if you have questions or requests you’re welcome to leave those in the comments to inform future video too.

You may have seen the Mindphaser before, it was released by Hexinverter some years ago however … they couldn’t make many of them at the time and not long after closed up the company for good. The newly released Mindphaser is now made by Erica Synths, it’s still Hexinverter though and this is made under license and agreement with Stacy at Hexinverter. It’s great to see this module come back to life and it’s by all accounts the same module as it was, just with some minor tweaks for ease of manufacture and parts available. I’m looking forward to Erica Synths remaking some other Hexinverter modules too."

TIMING INDEX // CHAPTERS

00:00 Hello and patch previews
00:46 What is the Mindphaser and what are we doing here?
01:31 Drones, Tones & Arpeggios - an exploration of phasing minds

See the dealers on the right for availability.

"Mindphaser is a next generation complex dual oscillator for the Eurorack modular synthesizer format. Its dual oscillator architecture builds on and advances principles developed decades ago, by pioneers of electronic music synthesis.

Mindphaser generates sounds through its dual VCO cores: the Carrier and Modulator, and in addition to these cores, a palette of intermodulation capability is offered through the Modulation Bus (ModBus) and a separate, supplementary through-zero phase modulation (TZ-PM) bus. The sound is further sculpted by a final set of tools contained in the Waveshaper, before reaching the final output."

"VCNO [demo video here] is a noise oscillator, capable of producing full spectrum white noise and various random signals. But that’s where its similarity to other noise generators stops. VCNO can be used like a VCO – you can modulate the pitch over CV and use its multiple outputs simultaneously, each with a distinct sonic character. As well, you can patch it into a VCA or use it to modulate and trigger other elements in your modular system.

Features

NOISE is the main LFSR output. With the pitch knob turned fully clockwise this will output pure white noise. As you turn the pitch down, the noise evolves into crunchy noise, reminiscent of vintage video game sounds

GATE is a DC-coupled output. This is perfect for supplying random triggers in your system

SCREECH features a dark, howling overtone to the main NOISE output

SIZZLE features a related control, which takes the output from pure white noise when turned fully clockwise to a vinyl-like crackle when turned anti-clockwise

TEAR sounds like the noise generator is broken and tearing itself apart

All outputs work simultaneously and are simultaneously affected by the pitch knob or CV

The frequency of VCNO can be modulated via CV – just patch any CV signal into this jack

A clock signal input bypasses the internal frequency generator. You can apply a clock from a trigger sequencer to create a pseudorandom drum trigger pattern synced to the rest of your drums."

[ELZ_1 play] SiGRINDER - An Experiment in Generating Sounds from Your Own Voice

video upload by SONICWARE

"Today I experimented with "SiGRINDER," SONICWARE's unique synth engine that can generate sounds by decomposing and reconstructing audio data recorded on an ELZ_1 play.
The source audio was a recording of my voice speaking "A, I, U, E, O" and I used it.
SiGRINDER generates sounds by adjusting parameters such as the resolution of the generated waveform (RESO), the degree of waveform extraction (DIG), the direction of extraction (POSITION), and the length of the generated waveform (TIME).
In the video, I show how to generate sounds from voice recordings and a small performance example.
In today's experiment, the DIG parameter is modulated by LFO.
I hope you will enjoy the sounds that you can recognize the original voice and the new sounds that are not at all.
Please take a look.

"Not a big menu, but combined with the others in this row ( TRANSFORM / QUANTIZE) you'll find it a handy one.

The Filter menu modifies per Track MIDI IN and MIDI OUT. It houses a velocity scaler and a filter for MIDI Notes, Control Changes, Program Changes, Aftertouch and Pitchbend. It can change the way you play your keyboard but can also be used (in combination with ALT+3, MIXDOWN) to clean up your recording."

Moog Minimoog Model D | First pass experimental ambient sound design

video upload by MIDERA

"I've wanted a Minimoog for some time, but it was 'always out of my price range' (and it still is - 0% financing for the win?). When the new version was released at $5000, I laughed and said, well, that's not going to happen. After the mass layoffs at Moog - I guess I was somewhat compelled to get one. I'm sure this is, by itself, a fairly irrational reason to get it. At the time, I didn't know (or maybe it's still not 100% certain) whether Moog would make more Minimoogs in the US. Originally the thought/fear was that everything would be produced elsewhere. So yes, that played probably an unhealthy role in my decision making process. I've heard the Mini would still be made in the US. I guess I'm not entirely proud to say that maybe by buying it under InMusic, I wasn't doing Moog any favors. I honestly don't know.

If you remember when I got my Sequential Prophet 10, I remember being let down. I wasn't sure it was as good as I thought it should be for the price. While I have come around, it was a major fear I had after buying the Minimoog. I'm quite happy to report that these misgivings were not in my head at all when I first turned on the Mini. Of course, there are some things that confused me. First, I didn't hear any sounds and that made me nervous (turns out my mixer wasn't on). It does take a little reading in the manual to know what switches and knobs are doing exactly what. It's less immediate than one would think on first glance.

It's hard to know what to say. I don't really want to fetishize the instrument - but I think that it's a bit impossible. It's a cool synth. It's one of the most iconic synths - so in that aspect, I will fail this immediately. But it does LOOK and FEEL very impressive... and elegant. In a way that the Matriarch doesn't. The keybeds seem the same though. Getting to the sound - it's got such a rich sound. I would love to A/B it with my Matriarch (which has other benefits such as paraphonic mode, arp/seq, patching), but I think the pure tone from the Minimoog is better (again, I want to test this).

So what I did here was send the output to the Strymon Volante and then added Eventide Blackhole VST. I didn't prepare anything except the original sound. Honestly, I didn't even know what I was going to play throughout. This is just me fiddling around after playing it for 5 minutes to get my bearings straight.

Before I forget. The first sound you hear is actually just the filter with some noise modulation on it. I later add oscillators.

I hope you enjoy."
