Circuit Bent Yamaha QY70 music workstation by LoFi Future

"Circuit Bent Yamaha QY70

I have explored the brains of this classic piece of gear and returned with a selection of circuit bends I deem worthy.

10 toggle switches can activate 10 data crushing ROM based hacks one knob acts as a "character" control, panning it left or right changes how the toggle switches behave.

Describing the sounds this thing makes in words is useless, so check out the demo video listed above!

Please note: the battery compartment has been removed to make space for the new switches, it can only be powered by its DC input"

Exploring the Synamodec - Levitate Expansion

video upload by NOISEBUG

"The Synamodec Levitate Expansion will take your noisy distorted synth drones to new heights. Equipped with a bunch of droning oscillators, filters, delay, echo, phaser, distortion, fuzz VCA + LFO and a nice set of ins/outs, this bad boy is ready to get nasty. As a standalone machine The #LevitateExpansion is fully capable of creating novel landscapes of noise and wobbly Karplus-Strong effects. However, as an effects processor for external drum machines/audio sources; the expansion really comes to life. Push the internal oscillators mixed with external sources to the point of saturation and beyond. Feedback is also a main factor here. Thanks to the semi-modular features, you can reroute the signal paths to your hearts content."

FREE! Synthesizer Expander Module | Cherry Audio

video upload by Cherry Audio

"In celebration of the 2023 holiday season and Cherry Audio's fifth year, we've released the FREE Synthesizer Expander Module, a virtual instrument plugin based on a classic 1974 analog synthesizer.

Get it today! https://cherryaudio.com/santa

Synthesizer Expander Module is Cherry Audio's free emulation of the classic self‑contained synthesizer module of the same name. Though it was a simple, barebones monosynth, the Synthesizer Expander Module possessed a unique tone quality, courtesy of its 12 dB/oct state-variable filter. With lowpass, bandpass, highpass, and notch modes, this flexible filter was the star of the show. We've precisely recreated it here with a filter section and Phasor effect programmed by award-winning synth designer Mark Barton (MRB).

Press release follows:

December 1, 2023: In celebration of the 2023 holiday season and Cherry Audio's fifth year, the company has released the FREE Synthesizer Expander Module, a virtual instrument plugin based on a classic 1974 analog synthesizer. The plugin is available immediately from Cherry Audio at cherryaudio.com/santa.

Synthesizer Expander Module is Cherry Audio's free emulation of the classic Oberheim® self‑contained synthesizer module of the same name. Though it was a simple, barebones monosynth, the Synthesizer Expander Module possessed a unique tone quality, courtesy of its 12 dB/oct state-variable filter. With lowpass, bandpass, highpass, and notch modes, this flexible filter was the star of the show. We've precisely recreated it with a filter section and Phasor effect programmed by award-winning synth designer Mark Barton (MRB).

And best of all, it's absolutely free! Synthesizer Expander Module joins other free virtual instruments from Cherry Audio, such as the popular Surrealistic MG-1 Plus and the highly acclaimed Voltage Modular Nucleus virtual modular platform. As it celebrates its fifth anniversary in the desktop music production space, Cherry Audio is concluding an astoundingly successful year with this holiday gift to all musicians.

Despite being a free plugin, Synthesizer Expander Module is fully featured. It will delight both vintage synth fans and today's music producers. Synthesizer Expander Module features include:
Ultra-accurate dual oscillators
Multi-mode filter emulation by award-winning synth designer Mark Barton (MRB)
Massive unison mode
100 presets for Basses, Leads, and Percussion
Unique "Phasor" effect section emulating the vintage Oberheim stomp box, also replicated by Mark Barton
Studio-quality Echo effect with tempo sync
Complete MIDI control and DAW automation for all controls, with easy-to-use MIDI learn and mapping (Preset and Global)
Highly optimized DSP for optimal performance
User-adjustable oversampling control
Did we mention totally free?
Synthesizer Expander Module is available at no cost exclusively from Cherry Audio and provided in AU, VST, VST3, AAX, and standalone formats for Windows (7 and above) and macOS (10.13 and above), including native support for Apple Silicon. Visit cherryaudio.com for additional product details, system requirements, and sound demos.

Buchla/TipTop Audio 296T Programmable Spectral Processor

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"Sure, the 52 HP 296T Spectral Processor is very big. And it's deep too. As a physical module and as an instrument. It's also power hungry taking almost 800 mA in total. It doesn't come cheap, but this is not an 'inspired by the 296' module like Fumana, Spectraphon or Sputnik. It has both the name Buchla and the magic numbers on it. And TipTop made it real."

96 Pads
48 Leads

Macro 3: amp envelope release.
Macro 4: filter envelope depth (first half for negative modulation, and second half for positive).
Macro 5: filter frequency.
Macro 6: resonance.

Bob Moog (didn't invent the synthesiser)?

video upload by Zoë Blade

A mini historical timeline of key events by Zoë Blade. It's interesting in that it gives you some of driving forces behind the designs. For an in depth list of electronic music instruments see https://120years.net. If you want read a couple of books on Bob Moog check out Analog Days: The Invention and Impact of the Moog Synthesizer, and Switched On: Bob Moog and the Synthesizer Revolution (Amazon affiliate links). Note: memories can be fuzzy. There are some critiques for Analog Days not being 100% accurate. I haven't heard any on Switched On. That said, both books are interesting reads and will get you closer to some of that history.

Video description:

"After researching a bit about where Bob Moog got his ideas (and rewatching It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia), I finally got around to making my 'crazy board' red wool video (over a year and a half after buying the wool for this specific purpose), before I inevitably forget it all again.

This is my latest attempt at making a 'quick and easy' video, where I ramble on at the camera for three takes then edit the best bits together into something vaguely coherent.

I spent a good while typing out the subtitles for those who need it, which, given how I talk, is probably everyone. 😅

I hope you like it!"

Ewa, add-on for the Krait module

video upload by DNIPRO MODULAR

"Introducing Ewa, a little lovely Kraits expander."

Image and details via Nightlife Electronics' Reverb shop. It was the first result to come up searching for the module, and Nightlife Electronics supports the site.

Ewa was created as a partner to the Krait module, a syncable 3-channel modulation source. Paired with Ewa, Krait will get new useful abilities, such as 3 freely routable cv inputs, endless encoder for smooth editing without value jumps, dedicated clock menu button and clock and reset outputs.

Each CV input can be used to record external cv source in Record mode. You can route it to any parameter of the LFO and Random too. With Ewa now it is easy to modulate LFO rate or Random slew for example. CV inputs are bipolar and react to the signals between -5 +5 voltages.

Additionally a dedicated clock menu button and clock output can make Krait as a clock source for other modules in your system that need sync.

To use Ewa, you need to install firmware 2.0 on Krait.

Width: 4HP
Depth: 42mm
Power: 20mA @ 12V / 12mA @ -12V

Hey Patreon fam,

I wanted to drop a quick note and express my gratitude for your ongoing support. Lately, I've been juggling a ton with my school commitments, leaving me with little bandwidth for regular posts here. I'm currently knee-deep in the academic grind, and I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things once this chapter wraps up in the spring.

In the meantime, there's a treasure trove of content from my older videos waiting for you on the page – think patch notes, pictures, and even some PDF guides. Your support means the world, and I can't wait to dive back into more Patreon goodness soon. Thanks for your understanding and patience! 🙏🎶 #PatreonFamily

via this auction

"The backstory with this instrument is that I bought it used in Feb. 2020, replaced the keybed with the drop in replacement from Techsmechs, and then had it tuned and calibrated by Matt at Futura Electronics. I then traded it to a friend who didn't use it much for the past couple years. Then I got it back over this past summer.

Cosmetically, it's particularly nice and I'd even say a cut above the rest. Very few signs of use at all. This is a higher serial number, made in September of 1983, hence why I had to replace the old membrane keyboard.

Functionally, it's working great and it sounds beautiful. Just give it 30+ minutes to fully warm up just like any other vintage analog synth. All ins and outs are working as they should. Sold AS-IS, as described in vintage working order."

Joran is back with a clever feature in one of the Joranalogue modules. We have all been there, you've got an ingenious patch going but you really need an extra filter. You're in luck if you've got an extra slew limiter lying around because this week is all about using Contour 1 as a filter!"

Expressive E OSMOSE Synth JAM - Friday Fun

video upload by sonicstate

"More exclusive footage for this on: http://patreon.com/sonicstate
#fridayfunsynthjam #osmose #rc505

We've been lucky enough to get hold of an Osmose - which is the new keyboard instrument from Expressivee.com .

We've been struck by the way it encourages you to create, the extra expressivity afforded by the per key pressure and lateral movement is a joy. It sort of pushes you to go for notes one might not ordinarily attempt - obviously thats not without risks 😁

Each of the on-board patches that take advantage of the Eagan Matrix - the physical modelling engine at the heart of this instrument are almost like an instrument in their own right, with expressivity allowing for quite drastic timbral changes, whether it be velocity, initial pressure, secondary pressure or lateral movement of each key!

However, its not all good news, the editor for the Eagan Matrix only runs in MaxForLive and frankly is a nightmare, assuming you can actually get it running. We've not managed that yet.

But there are a four macro knobs per patch, plus the additional mod wheel and keyboard modulations for each of these as well as editing of the master FX, EQ, compression and drive - so you can modify a lot.

We love it so far."
