New Patch on the Moog Model 10 Modular Synthesizer

video upload by Beto Hale

"Three oscillators total; one using a sawtooth wave; another a pulsewave, and a third using a sine wave (used as an LFO).

The first two sent to the audio input of the voltage controlled low pass filter; the third (LFO) sent into the Control Voltage input of the filter.

The sine wave of the LFO is set to a frequency to match the tempo (in 16th notes) of the song I’m working on."

SYNTH VS EVIL | Nord Wave 2

video upload by Composer Feliciano

"Evil is an overpowering force, but do is the great synth! This epic electronic music synth jam with a Nord Wave 2 synthesizer repels the spirits of negativity. The battle ends when it ends.

As a music composer / pianist / keyboardist (keyboard player), l always practice in search of new ideas. I would love to create a soundtrack for a video game, animation, or movie. For now, let's just create!

rare birds: Welson Keyboard Orchestra (K.O.)

video upload by ohm_studi_ohm

"I've seen many string synths and this one is still one of my favourite. It's one of the happy few string synths I keep. I have one always plugged in my studio and it's actually the one I use the most (along with the Arp Omni 2). It's not the lushest, not the smoothest, not the fatest one and yet there is something I'm particularly attracted to. I like the combination of the 2 strings sounds with the harpsichord one. And on the other hand I really like the piano sound, played alone. It's my favorite of all the electronic piano sound I could hear, except for the Farfisa Professional Piano that is the best electronic piano there is (and with dynamic !).
Design is very close to the Elka Rhapsody 610 but I definetly favor the sound of the Welson. Like the Rhapsody it only embeds a double chorus, and that explain why the sound is not as lush as other stringer that uses triple chorus (most of them). Still they sound very nice IMO."

via this listing

"Quite rare italian polyphonic keyboard with 4 sounds: cello, violin, piano and harpsichord.

Very simple design and yet very nice sounding. Check the demo I made.

You can mute evey section with its dedicated switch and you have control over individual volumes, as well as "sustain" for the string presets and "decay" for the keyboard presets.

Inside there is of course a BBD based chorus, using classic TCA350Y chipsets, like many famous string synth: Eminent Solina, Logan/Hohner String Melody, Elka Rhapsody etc

Like on the Elka Rhapsody it's only a double chorus, not a triple one, so string sound is not as lush as on the Solina or Logan. But these strings sounds very nice, better IMO then the Elka.

There are also seperate outputs for both sections. And furthermore the instrument is quite compact and leightweight (13.5 kilos) for a string synth, which makes a great live performer."

Vintage Sequential Circuits - Prophet-20 Revealed

video upload by Vintage Synths & Co

"Designed on the basis of 2 Prophet~10, this is - to our knowledge - the only example of the Prophet~20 that has ever been produced ! This project remained at the prototype stage due to the company’s financial difficulties and the development of the Prophet~VS, which Sequential’s teams considered more relevant and viable."

Yamaha DD-8 1992 Drum Machine with Custom Mods

video upload by Canned Sound

via this listing

"Yamaha DD-8 1992 drum machine featuring a 20-point modulation patch bay. The unit also includes a joystick for immediate performance of four additional effects which are also combined on the diagonal axes for further processing options.

Both of these custom modifications unlock an array of original sounds and rhythmic variations; making a single connection on the patch matrix alters the output but applying multiple connections produces an increasingly complex, sometimes aleatoric range of reversed, tonal, bit crushed, flanged, distorted, aliasing and delayed sounds, additional accents, rhythmic patterns and digital noise. Additionally, the five included patch cables can be stacked for further sonic manipulation.

The DD-8 includes a wide range of rhythmic styles, sound effect samples, 9 percussion sets and echo, flam and roll effects.

The patch bay and joystick affect the 100 tempo adjustable onboard rhythms and, depending on the connections, the velocity sensitive drum pads. The 20 different preset drum and percussion sounds can be individually assigned to each pad. The unit functions as normal when the patch bay is not implemented.

Mains (9- 12v DC) and battery powered (6 x AA), features a 1/4" output, no onboard speaker."

Dark jam with Ableton Push 3, PWM Malevolent, and Hologram Chroma Console

video upload by Jay Hosking

"A live synthesizer jam performed entirely on hardware.

This is the third track I've made specifically for the Push 3, and I'm having a better and better time as I go. There are a few behind-the-scenes videos about this particular setup over on my Patreon.

The idea is that the set/album is playable live without requiring too much mental juggling, but since I'm only presenting them as individual songs, I thought I'd add in the PWM Malevolent for fun. The Malevolent adds well to the overall feeling I'm going for in these songs, and the Chroma Console helps shape the sound even more. Makes me wonder what I could add next time for fun!

Looking forward to playing these all as a set. Hopefully soon!

Thanks for listening.

Reason 12 (behind the scenes) — a lot of the songwriting and structuring
Ableton Push 3 — most sounds, effects, and performance
PWM Malevolent through Hologram Chroma Console — gritty synth bass thing

Performed and recorded live, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

LOFI quad sampler ISD1820 ic

DIY pcb and panel only as of 03 MAR 2023.

Beneath the Bush of Ghosts is a 26hp Quad Lo-fi sampler based on the ISD1820 IC chip which is an old answering machine chip. This module is inspired by several other projects based on the ISD1820 chip. Each of the four channels are identical to each other with some sneaky normalisation going on between the channels for extra fun!

There is a mix output which combines all the dry inputs with the sampler outputs, while the individual outs of each channel only contain the sampler output. Each individual output is cross modulated with the channel next to it in pairs, so 1-2 modulate each other and 3-4 the same way. Each output is also normalled to the following input, 1-2-3-4 and 4 goes back to input 1. This means you can do generation loss (i.e. disintegrating loops) with some clever patching. Each channel has a filter with lowpass to the left and high pass to the right, as well as a pitch knob with a dedicated cv input and attenuator. There is also a dedicated trig input for each channel, and control buttons for the following functions: record in, momentary play and full play of the sample. The trig inputs need a +5v gate to operate. Samples can be played on loop by engaging the ‘Loop’ switch at the top of each channel.

Recording instructions: In order to record you need to turn the loop switch off, set the pitch to around the 10 to 2 o’clock (you can experiment with this), the CV knob will usually influences the sample speed so make sure it is fully CCW. Insert an input signal (or use the looping sampler next to it) and hit record, the LED will turn off while recording, and light up again when the memory of the chip is full. It’s a simple as that!

Arduino VGM player on ESP32 (SN76489 chiptune) with a moving panorama stereo effect

video upload by Marcel Licence

"In this video you see the VGM player running on the ESP32.
All you hear comes directly from the PCB.
I made the 4 channels of the SN76489 emulation visible on the OLED screen.
In addition to that I tried to create a kind of moving panorama,
to generate a moving stereo separation.
The channels are floating around by changing the left/right volume
and the delay time changes too to simulate the changing distance.

The other features are the same as on the RP2040.

At the end of the video you will find a lot of music examples.

Used VGM files:
- Global Gladiators - 03 - Duelin-Dance.vgm
- Global Gladiators - 02 - Techno Tune.vgm
- Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - 03 - Act Start.vgm
- Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - 04 - Underground Zone.vgm
- Sonic The Hedgehog - 02 - Act Start.vgm
- Sonic The Hedgehog - 03 - Green Hill Zone.vgm
- Lemmings - 21 - Let's Go!.vgm
- Sonic The Hedgehog - 05 - Bridge Zone.vgm
- Sonic The Hedgehog - 06 - Chaos Emerald.vgm
- Sonic The Hedgehog - 08 - Bonus Zone.vgm
- Sonic The Hedgehog - 09 - Labyrinth Zone.vgm
- Sonic The Hedgehog - 10 - Act Complete.vgm
- Sonic The Hedgehog - 11 - Scrap Brain Zone.vgm
- Sonic The Hedgehog - 12 - Sky Base Zone.vgm
- Sonic The Hedgehog - 13 - Boss Theme.vgm
- Sonic The Hedgehog - 16 - Marble Zone (unused).vgm

Files were originally in .vgz format and I renamed them to .vgz, decompress them.
Finally, rename the uncompressed files back to .vgm before I could play them.

VintageRack (iOS/Mac) processes sound of King Of FM synth

video upload by Igor Vasiliev

"VintageRack is a minimalistic and convenient multi-effect application that contains modules realistically modeling notable retro gear from the early digital era with their inherent aesthetics and atmosphere. Most of the effects in this application have been inspired and based on the principles of actual hardware from the 70s and 80s, which is great for giving the sound of any instrument the nostalgic and emotional mood of old recordings."
