Roland Juno 106 with Kiwi Upgrade

video upload by ohm_studi_ohm
"The Kiwitechnics Kiwi 106 is a major upgrade to the iconic Roland Juno 106 which adds too many features to be listed here, so just check their website.
Among those the ones I think would alone justify the upgrade are: arppegiator, LFO extra waveshapes with sync possibilities and extra key modes (among which a real monophonic mode and a unison mode with adjustable detune). Here is a quick demo of those features.
Once again i'm only scratching the surface of what's possible with the mod but if you're familiar with the 106 sound and playability you'll have an idea of all the new territories it can cover.
Actually making it quite close to the Jupiter 4 (despite the Jupiter 8 style overlay :-)"
via this listing
"This unit was serviced and upgraded:
- Kiwitechnics Kiwi 106 upgrade was fitted and updated to the firmware v2
- The 6 VCA VCF voice cards were unsoldered and cleaned of their resin coating with acetone and fitted on sockets, so that in the future you could replace a faulty voice without any need for soldering.
- power supply capacitors were replaced
- 16 faders from the control panel (all the fader except for the HPF) were replaced by new ones
- original leds were replaced with blue ones
- blue display was fitted
- clear bender was fitted
- unit was calibrated
- SynthGraphics Jupiter 8 theme panel overlay was fitted. Please note this is based on the Kiwi 106 v1 so there are a few discrepancies in the layout since the upgrade is now in version 2. Only minor differences that would not justify an overlay replacement IMO
Cosmetic are very good with only minor signs of wear."

"Please note, several year ago, this SID Station had a repair to replace a voltage regulator, which was performed by Syntronics Audio. As a result of the replacement part that was available, a slightly different external power supply needs to be used. A 7.5v power supply is required. I'm including a switchable power supply that works perfectly. I've had zero issues with the SID Station in the years following the repair!"

Teenage Engineering KOII - Knockout
video upload by sonicstate
"Samples on our http://patreon.com/sonicstate
The new KOII from Teenage Engineering bucks the trend when it comes to price point - the original range of Pocket Operators were low cost this one takes the concept and adds some more of that Teenage design magic. And their OP-1 Field, TX-6 and TP-7 are priced way out of most people's league, this is what one would consider to be affordable.
The KOII is a 64mb sampler Composer and features 48 tracks of sequencing with up to 12 voices of polyphony. It looks like a 1990's calculator but its got a lot going on.
With four groups (ABCD) of 12 pads, each pad can play a sample as a single hit or via the keyboard for pitched lines. You can also use a pad or track to record and playback MIDI (note, velocity, pitch bend, aftertouch and CC)
Samples can be manipulated with some simple parameters, pitch, attack/release, rudimentary time stretch, amplitude and panning. You can also use stereo samples -though this will eat two voices and the limit is 20seconds in length.
There's a decent single global effect (Delay, Reverb, Chorus, Distortion and Compression) which you can send on a per group basis using the fader - this fader can also be used to record automation for various parameters - LPF, HPF, Decay, Pitch etc again per group.
Add to that you have insert FX which are global and effect everything - designed for real-time sound mangling and performance most are controlled in some way by pressure on the 12 pads - yes they have pressure too - this can also be mapped to a repeat function in the style of the MPC repeat.
Memory is organized into 9 Projects - each pad group has up to 99 patterns A01-99, B01-99 etc. And each pattern can be up to 99 bars long - and can record free or quantized. Then there are 99 scene memories - this stores the pattern assignment for each group.
In practice one would create a groove in Scene01 - say drums in grp A, bass in B other sounds in C or D
say these are all A01, B01, C01, D01. Then when you are happy commit the scene, and Scene01 is created (no pause in playback) Patterns are duplicated to 02 slot on each group and you could then add or subtract parts to create another variation or section.
Scenes are not chain able so you will need to perform any song structures you want to create, but its an elegant and friction less creative workflow - I really enjoyed it and I have a low tolerance for obscure operation.
The output section alsoe gives drive and compression giving a real glue ti the sound. The KOII sounds great by the way, plenty of weight and nice snappy transients.
I'll be honest, I really like this unit and feel that its a great creative tool. There are limitations - no song mode, some parameters would be nice to automate but are not accessible (delay time for instance) and the memory state is live - so whatever you do is written into memory, there's no revert aside from basic Undo.
The good news is that TE have released a beta version of the Web Memory tool which allows you to not only drop samples into the unit, but also to backup all the memory.
As a drum machine and very capable MIDI sequencer its hard to beat, its fun to use and aids creativity. Nice work Teenagers.
Price $299/Euros available now."
You've never heard oscillators do this before // Warp & Reflect *NEW* Wavefolding VCOs

Is it witchcraft, fairy dust, magic, sonic alchemy or science? Whatever it is its pretty amazing. The Pittsburgh Modular Voltage Lab 2 has 2 wavefolding oscillators - but they have beed designed from the ground up to do things differently.
Firstly, the 2 oscillators aren't the same.
VCO1 has their proprietary centre and newly developed centre clipping circuit that splits the positive and negative portions of the signal so you can attenuate them independently.
VCO2 works in a different way. It has the reflection parameter that gradually folds the negative up into the positive
Add all this together and it took over 20 minutes of tweaking a drone to demo what they could do... and here it is.
Roll a fat one and enjoy the sonic bath. Imagine staring at the stars as this reverberates around the canons in the sea of tranquility - and I know you can't hear anything in space, but f**K it, go with the flow :)"

Reverse Reverbs Revisited | ZAPS | Versio x 2, Maths | Erbe-Verb, Mimeophon
video upload by Cinematic Laboratory
"I am still dreaming of a Reversio, a module that can take an audio source, reverse it, add reverb and reverse it again. But no. It's 2024 and we still don't have a module that can do it, EXCEPT Lubadh, but it can only do it in mono. Anyway, I've been thinking about it a lot, and I wondered why I never used Desmodus BEFORE the Melotus. These are the true questions in life. Melotus offers reverse grains, so in theory I should be able snippets of reversed reverb. And it works, but there's so much going on you can barely hear it.
I've been using Winter/Plankton ZAPS for this experiment, which was lying around for about two years because it's so deep, and you can't figure it out without a manual. Sure there's one, but it's a reference manual so it's hard to figure out how it works as a whole. Regardless, it's one of the coolest modules I have. Using it with the Versio's has been an adventure, but my experiment failed.
Then I remembered that Mimeophon can reverse the long repeat. So I used Erbe-Verb fully wet in a send/return, only reversing the reverb tail and pre-delay. Yeah! This was very close. You can always rely on Tom Erbe. People often regret the Erbe-Verb has a mono in, which makes sense because it was designed for the mono Shared System. But reverb works fine with a mono send/stereo return, in fact it works better. I tried to explain how you can work in and out of a camera frame when you're close, but when you're in the back of a hall, that same distance looks very small. I had an amazing session and I hope you like it too."

Access Virus kb soundscape - The memories that haunt us
video upload by MIDERA
"Three quarters of the way through filming I heard my camera snap shut. I knew something had happened. I thought "maybe it just hadn't restarted recording. No - I realized later that I accidentally did not start it. Eventually it plays and you'll see me playing along. But before that - you will have to just enjoy a looped small video of it alongside some videos of a winter storm I filmed from 2023.
Today I put back the old keybed in my Virus kb. There are two TP/8s keybeds apparently. Some that are from 2005 and earlier, and those that are made afterwards. The person who I sold my Virus kb to in 2020 was willing to swap keybeds with me on my new one (that I bought and was disappointed it had a different keybed, but then I sold it, and eventually bought it back). It's been about 4 years - but now this keybed needs some work (some keys are no longer velocity sensitive, some keys didn't work at all - although I fixed the non-working keys before this video was made).
I really don't know what it is about the Virus B I like so much. When I play it next to the TI, they sound identical, but then again, I feel like there really might be something there, something different that I just can't pick up when I compare them.
Well - they are similar enough. I'm still a little tempted to pull all these keys off and put them on my Accelerator, which has a similar keybed (TP/8SK), but it is a little different. Then I could sell the Virus kb. But, I am not sure I can sell this synth yet.
Sorry about the audio clipping. I hadn't realized until too late that it was absolutely way too loud into the mixer.
No external FX used."
