If you already own a Versio module, it's available as firmware here:
https://noiseengineering.us/products/...

Fala Versio is a stereo formant filter designed with pure musicality in mind. Rather than creating classic vowel shapes, Fala gives the sounds it shapes a vocal quality while retaining the musicality of the sound. Fala's signal chain features up to 24 bandpass filters, post-filter saturators, three allpass filters, a pre-filter wavefolder, and a suite of dynamics-control utilities. Fala makes it fun to make nice or gnarly tones, and easy to morph between them.

Fala also features a built-in clockable stereo LFO with sine or noise oscillators to modulate the filters and to bring some panning animation into your patches.

Whether you want resonant, vocal tones or uniquely modulated filth, Fala Versio is the perfect tool to take your patches to new timbral spaces."

Heaven 🌅 (Elektron Digitone + Rmx500 // Roland JD08 // Sequential Take 5 + Deco 2)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"Everything started with the FM DRUM pattern I made on the DIGITONE which is running through the Pioneer RMX-500 (adding fills, breaks etc.).

I used a lot if the cool features of the powerful DIGITONE's sequencer for this track, like probability (for DRUM sounds, PADS and BASS notes etc.), trig conditions, p-locks, note shift (the "accelerating" PLUCK notes for example) etc. 🤩

It was also time to get the Sequential Take 5 (through the Strymon DECO v2) back on the desk for the fat BASS sound (sequenced by the DIGITONE).

I used the Roland JD-08 for the PLUCK sound (Part1) and PADS (Part2), both parts being sequenced by the DIGITONE too 😉

The story of CRIC with Future Sound Systems

video upload by DivKid

"It was a pleasure to first see CRIC with Future Sound Systems back in October 2023 around a trip to Bristol that was extended around the event Machina Bristronica. Fast forward a year, past Spinal Tap mini stone henge vibe portrait prototypes to the final Renault Twingo coloured thing ... we have CRIC in its final form. It's signal path is based around the unique features and control of the Recombination Engine and Timbral Sculpture eurorack designs heavily extended around a large pin matrix and powerful modulation section, lots of routing, lots of integration. I'm really excited for CRIC, as a mega synthesiser or centre piece for a whole electronic music studio."

MPC X Session: Akai Mini D, Jura, and Casio SA-46

video upload by Retrothusiast

"Join me for another creative MPC X session as I expand on a song idea that started with a simple bass line on my son’s Casio SA-46. Using the Akai Mini D plugin, I recreated the bass sequence and layered it with lush bells and arpeggios from the JURA plugin. All of this was produced directly on the retro-inspired MPC X SE, with my Prophet 10 acting as a MIDI controller.

This session showcases the power of the MPC X and Akai’s incredible plugin suite, proving you don’t need external instruments to create a full-sounding track.

Meet the BLIPPULATOR - KAOTIC BLIPPING SYNTH

video uploads by biyiblip

From the maker of Gibber.

Playlist:
1. BLIPPULATOR - KAOTIC BLIPPING SYNTH
2. PATCH EXAMPLES FROM THE BLIPPULATOR USER MANUAL
3. BLIPPULATOR UNBOXING

"Meet blippulator, the quirky offspring of Rob Hordijk’s legendary designs, blending the heart of a Blippoo Box with the chaotic energy of a Benjolin.

Born from the mind of Hordijk's sonic explorations and further refined by Biyi Amez (BIYIBLIP), Blippulator takes everything we love about these classics and adds a fresh twist.

At its core, blippulator features extensive CV control, letting you dial in and modulate key parameters like the pitch of its two oscillators and the cutoff frequencies of its dual resonant filters. These aren’t just any filters—they’ve got that twin-peak magic that Hordijk fans will instantly recognise, adding a complex, organic edge to your sound.

One of blippulator’s coolest tricks? You can select any two arbitrary signals to create a custom PWM waveform, adding a layer of flexibility and unpredictability to your patches. Whether you’re controlling it from a Eurorack system or another external device, the 0-5V CV inputs and outputs make it a breeze to integrate into your setup.

The panel is user-friendly, making it easy to get hands-on with your sound and improvise live.

And just when you think you’ve got it figured out, blippulator’s got a few secret weapons up its sleeve to keep things interesting in your performances.

It’s a powerful tribute to Rob Hordijk’s genius, honouring his designs while pushing them in new directions, making it a must-have for anyone who loves modular synthesis and sonic exploration.

Blippulator is more than a synthesizer—it's a celebration of the past and the future of sound design, with a nod to one of the most innovative minds in the field.

Plug in, experiment, and let it take your performances to the next level.

WING PINGER MEETS I'M GIBBER V3

video upload by biyiblip

"This video is just a little taste of what these two awesome instruments can do together.

The Wing Pinger is a cool new analog music instrument that lets you blend melody and noise in perfect harmony.

The original Gibber device was created by Rob Hordijk and Biyi Amez in 2020, when the usual activities at Hordijk Mansions in The Hague were put on hold because of the pandemic lockdown. Biyi, Rob's friend, assistant, and protégé, found a rare and outdated computer voice chip and had the idea to turn it into a synthesizer. Rob was intrigued, and in the following weeks, The Gibber was born.

The 'I'm Gibber' is a generative/self-playing device that can also be somewhat controlled by the user. It's based on Rob's "Rungler," a digital shift register that feeds back into itself. This setup makes the voice chip continuously produce a stream of phonemes, vowels, plosives, and syllables from the English language, but they’re all jumbled together in a stream that never quite forms recognizable language or meaning.

If you're interested in buying an 'I'm Gibber V3,' just shoot an email to biyiblip@gmail.com. Limited units available, so grab one before it's gone forever!

The Teenage Engineering OP-1 has been dethroned: The best-selling electronic gear on Reverb in 2024

via Reverb

"Each year, Reverb takes stock of what musicians across the globe are buying and selling as a way to keep players up to date on the latest gear trends. Today, we're sharing a big one: The best-selling electronic gear on Reverb this year.

The headline: After five years, the Teenage Engineering Op-1 has been dethroned. That's right -- the TE OP-1 is no longer the best-selling piece of electronic gear for the first time in half a decade...and oh how the mighty have fallen, with the OP-1 coming in at #5. However, it's not all bad for the Swedish synth brand.

Teenage Engineering had three pieces of gear -- the OP-1 (#5), the EP-133 K.O. II (#6), and the OP-1 Field (#11) -- in the top-10, as the brand continues to expand. Point and case: Teenage Engineering debuted the OP-XY just last month.

Both the OP-1 (#3) and the OP-1 Field (#19) finished inside of the top-20 best-selling used synths and electronic gear.

Elektron's Digitakt topped the list, largely due to the release of the Digitakt II and Digitone II models earlier this year. The brand's 2024 debuts helped propel Elektron's Digitone to #9 -- and you can get both the Digitone and Digitakt for a great price thanks to a $160+ drop in the cost of used models for both.

The Digitakt topped the list of best-selling used synths and electronic gear this year, further proving its popularity.

The Ableton Push 2 (#2) and the Korg Drumlogue (#4) both jumped into the top-five thanks to great deals from the brands' respective official Reverb shops.

Korg finished as second on the list of the best-selling electronic gear brands, while Roland took home the gold, Yamaha took home silver, and Akai and Arturia rounded out the top-five.

While Ableton's Push 2 was a best-seller, the standalone Push 3 was beat out by Native Instruments' Maschine+, which finished #11 on the list of the overall best-selling drum machines, samplers, and controllers.

Reveal Sound Spire Free Dark Ambient Presets. No Talk Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

"Darkwave Cinematics is a collection of 50 presets for Reveal Sound Spire.
The bank of presets consists of: 7 Basses, 6 Drones, 5 Keys, 6 Leads, 8 Pads, 8 Strings, 5 Synths, 5 Textures.
📻 The soundset is inspired by sci-fi movies, soundtracks, dystopian stories, urban landscapes, noise ambient albums, experimental modern art and sound design.

🌌 Get this soundset: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/spir...

The bank spans a broad spectrum of timbres: dark, noisy, lo-fi, retro, romantic, melancholic, nostalgic, soundscapes, atmospheric, detuned, cold, distant, dull, big, massive, epic, bright, orchestral, distorted, metallic, tense, atonal, non-harmonic, fx-like, evolving, moving, sweeping.

🔮 Each preset is designed with dynamics in mind - by using the modulation wheel, you can give your timbres a more expressive sound. ModWheel opens all layers' filters, enhancing the brightness of the sound.

🎛 Each preset has 4 Macros that make it easy to develop timbre and adjust key parameters.
The macros are a significant part of the soundset. They can change tone, stereo width, modulation depth and rate, noise level, distortion, detuning, effects mix, and others.

Ensure that you are using the latest software version.
To add presets to the collection, open the plugin browser, push Import, then select the presets on your computer. Or you can place the folder with the new presets into the Spire user folder.
Push Rescan to update the collection. Now you can see the new presets inside the browser.

Blue Mondayish ELKA OMB5 with Custom Drum Kit

video upload by ohm_studi_ohm

"I just finished servicing an Elka OMB5 and building a custom drum kit for it so I had some fun with it.
All sounds are from the OMB5, no fx used."

ELKA OMB 5 with custom drum kit

video upload by ohm_studi_ohm

"herre is a demo of an Elka One Man Band with custom drum sounds.

The OMB5 is a nice 4 part arranger with rhythm channel, bass channel and 2 accompaniment tracks. Sounds are FM (from the elka ER/EK/EM 44) and the drums are PCM sampled from the Drumstar 80. It has MIDI in and out so you can either control and play the different part from the keyboard or from MIDI, it syncs and transmits clock as well as single input notes or sequenced notes. I like using it with external midi controller so I can play the 3 different melodic part separately (when playing from the keyboard notes always trigger the 3 part together).

Though the drum samples are actually quite good if you like 80s sounds (especialy percussion and cymbal sounds), I decided to replace some of them with some I favor more, using sounds from LinnDrum, Oberheim DX, Roland TR808, CR8000 and TR707. I also adjusted level by using compression on some other stock sounds.

The audio format used in the OMB5 (and the Drumstar 80 which drum part is derived) is the same as in those classic 80s PCM drum machines, ie 8 bit µ-Law unsigned sample. Sample rate is 25000 hz (or so) in that one.

Replacing sound is not as straightforward as in those drum machines because instead of using 1x eprom per sound there are several samples per eprom (7x 256 kbyte eproms are used in the OMB5 to accomode for 32 sounds) so you need to edit the audio file and replace the existing sample with your own but it needs to start at the exact same adress as the original one and it should have the same length or be shorter.

So basically what you do is:
read the eprom bin
convert to uncompressed audio
edit that file and edit/replace the sound you want making sure you dont change file size nor start adress of the sound
convert the uncompressed audio to µ-law 8 bit
burn the new bin file

if you're interested in getting those sound I can sell you a full 7x eproms kit ready to use. I can be fitted in the DrumStar 80 too.

here is a list of the 32 sounds, with original and replacement when there is:

"Roland SVC-350 Vocoder in good condition. The “Balance Control” between the direct mic signal and the vocoder, and the lower bands of the frequency “Voice Character Controls” have slightly scratchy pots when adjusting. Briefly exercising them removed it almost completely. Once the desired setting is made there is no audible imperfections and the unit functions perfectly. Note: I did not test the three 'Remote' 1/4” inputs or the guitar amp output as I do not own the necessary equipment to do so. Some of the white 'Voice Character Control' plastic tabs are flaking or starting to flake, and there is a slightly sticky substance below where the power cable plugs in, see photos. This unit will ship with the rack ears removed. A power cable will be included."

CRUMAR BIT 99 SYNTHESIZER MIDI CONTROLLED

video upload by Davide Micheli

"The video I made is on the BIT 99 electronic synthesizer built by CRUMAR in 1984. The purpose is to show some technical characteristics of the vintage electronic synthesizer.

In particular, I updated the firmware by changing two EPROMs (see the following site: https://www.untergeek.de/shop/crumar-...)

The MIDI controller is the 'Stereoping's Synth Controller'.

In the video I play some patches whose synthsizer parameters are changed in realtime by means of the MIDI Synth Controller.

To emphasize the versatility of the MIDI Synth Controller and the deep 80's sounds of the BIT 99 synthesizer, I recorded a bass sequence on CUBASE and transmitted via MIDI to the BIT 99 synthesizer.

While the sequence is being played by the BIT 99, some parameters of DCOs, VCOs, VCF etc...are edited in realtime. LFOs are modified too.

The video is improvised and I hope it is useful and fun for fans of vintage electronic synthesizers. In some part of video the LINE 6 DL4 MKII Delay is activated."

GRPA4 Synthesizer: music and sounds exploration

video uploads by Davide Micheli

"In this series of videos I used the GRPA4 analog synthesizer to explore and experiment some of the sound possibilities in electronic music and beyond.
The GRPA4 is suitable for creating dynamic and very entangled situations in electronic music and sounds.
To emphasize the rhythm and sequence of sounds created with the GRPA4, I inserted a very simple rhythmic pattern of the Roland TR-8S electronic drums machine synchronized via midi with the GRPA4 by means of CUBASE.
In this first video I inserted some initial vocal notes with the GRP 22 Vocoder.
In the other videos of the series dedicated to the GRPA4 that follow, I continue to explore the sound possibilities of the synthesizer arriving, in the last video of the series, to add a part of an chords amrony using a piano. This demonstrates once again the possibility of using electronic synthesizers together with more traditional instruments with success.

Written by Peter Gill, Mark O’Toole and Holly Johnson. Music arrangement: Anne Dudley
Produced by Trevor Horn (ZTT)

This cover song series contains my own recreations of my favourite songs from the last 50 years. The original music from which I take inspiration belong to their respective owners. I recreate tracks only for personal passion and to pay homage to these tracks.
My intention is not to create covers that sound exactly like the original (if you want to hear identical sounds, please listen the original). It's more of an inspiration with my sounds from the old synthesizers from the past and of course the great appreciation for the original performers and producers."
