Boston Modular and Synth 10 Year Anniversary Event & Showcase

via Sam Holland:

"Sam Holland from Boston Modular and Synth here. We are a Meetup group and performance event series based in the Boston area, with around 900 members in our Meetup group. We have been around for a bit over 10 years, and regularly meet at Synthcube in Waltham, MA. Artists that have been active at our events include Bill T Miller, Bob Familiar, Noizcode, Switch Angel, and many others. We are a sister organization to New England Synthfest.

We are hoping to do a post celebrating our 10 year anniversary! We have an event at Synthcube on March 21st - it will be an 8-act showcase, including TotoRobyn, Noizcode, EmeraldArcana, Metal Tiger, Bill T Miller, and others. We also have a compilation thats out for pre-order: https://bostonmodular.bandcamp.com/album/boston-modular-and-synth-10-year-anniversary-showcase. 25 recordings from Boston Modular events in the past 10 years by 25 artists."

"Electronic musicians, synthesists, modular enthusiasts, drum machine savants, chiptune creators, drum machine freaks, noise mavens, visualists, and all around nice people. We live primarily in the greater Boston area, but folks are known to drive in from all over the Northeast. Our basic practice is a monthly Meetup group where anyone is welcome to play a 5 minute live performance using any type of electronic instrument (including acoustic instruments with electronic treatments). As of 2026 our regular home was Synthcube in Waltham, MA. Boston Modular and Synth also runs performance showcases a couple of times a year with longer, more organized sets.

Boston Modular and Synth first met on October 12, 2015 in West Roxbury, MA under the organizing force of Paul Geffen. The current primary organizer is Sam Holland, aka Metal Tiger.

To learn more about the organization, please go to bostonmodular.org.

Syntakt 1.40 update | Drum n Bass

video upload by VoltageCtrlRtv

"The new Elektron Syntakt 1.40 update opens up some really interesting creative possibilities, so I decided to take it for a spin with a Jungle / Drum & Bass session built around the legendary Amen Break.

In this session I’m layering chopped Amen break fragments with additional sampled percussive elements, then shaping the groove using the Syntakt’s sequencing and modulation tools. The goal wasn’t to recreate classic jungle exactly, but to explore how the Syntakt’s hybrid digital/analog engines can push those rhythms into new territory.

I’m also using several of my custom presets from my Syntakt West Kept Secrets and Formless Sound Packs, which add evolving textures, bass layers, and percussive machines that blend nicely with breakbeat programming.

One of the things I love about the Syntakt is how quickly you can move from an idea to a full performance. With the new update, the workflow feels even tighter for live rhythmic experimentation.

If you're into Jungle, Drum & Bass, IDM, or experimental rhythm programming, this session might give you some ideas for pushing the Syntakt further.

The Oxi E16 is the best MIDI controller I've owned. It makes the OP-XY so much more jammable 🎛️👌🏻

video upload by DeeCee

"I've been dabbling with MIDI controllers recently (as you will have seen if you've watched my recent stuff). Nothing has really hit the mark, until now. It's been a right pain in the ass to set up (the Mac app doesn't want to let me use it to configure settings) and have had to manually enter them on the device itself. But it's actually pretty easy once you know how. The OP-XY and Artemis have presets available to upload to import to it so you just need to know what you're doing and you're off. I've wanted a small but robust controller for ages and decided to give this a go. It's not cheap but it's impeccably made. The linking of encoders is amazing. There's no way you could perform a filter sweep on 2+ tracks on the OP-XY. This makes it easy peasy. Love it. Hope you enjoy!

Exit Earth 🌍 (Roland SE-02 // S-1 // TR-6S // Cre8audio Boom Chick // Arturia Minifreak // Hapax)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"In this video, I keep exploring the Hapax sequencer’s capabilities even more:
Program changes to switch between different presets (TR-6S and Minifreak)
Automation (enabling and disabling MIDI LFOs controlling parameters on the SE-02)
MIDI effects: Arpeggiator, LFO, Randomizer, Output, Scaler, Swing, etc.
Modulation
Fill button used to make drum breaks, mute some tracks etc.
Conditions for notes to play when a certain condition is met...

All 5 instruments in this jam are being sequenced by the Hapax.

The little trick I used here is that, thanks to the Hapax' MIDI Output plugin, the BASS track or the ARP track can sequence the S1, depending on which MIDI Output plugin I've enabled.

⚠️ Heads up: I miswired the Minifreak, so it’s totally out of phase - if you listen in mono, it’ll disappear. 👻"

Why the Leviasynth Might Be the Last Synth You Ever Need

video upload by Scott's Synth Stuff

"The new ASM Leviasynth is finally arriving, and there are a lot of questions about what this powerful synthesizer can actually do. In this video I answer the most common questions from viewers and the synth community — covering balanced outputs, the analog filter, oscillator behavior, envelopes, signal path, keybed feel, firmware updates, and more.

You'll hear demonstrations showing low-end compensation with resonance, self-resonating analog filters, oscillator envelopes, FM modulation tricks, and even how to turn the Leviasynth into a massive drone machine. If you're considering buying the Leviasynth or want to understand how its architecture works, this deep dive Q&A will help you get the most out of it.

Whether you're a synth beginner, sound designer, or longtime Hydrasynth fan, this video explains how the Leviasynth works and what makes it one of the most powerful modern synths available.

Watch to learn how this instrument can go from classic analog-style sounds to complex evolving textures with ease."

Today we are going to check outthe Voltage Multi Stage 16 by Verbos Electronics!
I've been a mega fan for years of the original Multi Stage (8 steps) released in 2014 and I was super happy to see this new bigger version with many upgrades such as the stage select inputs and revamped 'stage adress' mode.
I'll show you some cool patches with this thing and I hope you'll have fun.

There's been a lot of talk about technical issue with this module online and I'd like to report that mine works correctly. I got it from Verbos to do the video and I had some issue with the power of the Black Box case that was fixed very quickly. Other than that so far so good."

In this video, I break down my favorite sound design tricks to make a synth sound evil, dark and meaner. From subtle detuning and dissonance to modulation and instability, these techniques can transform any synth into an industrial machine. If you’re into industrial, EBM, Nine Inch Nails–style sound design, or dark cinematic synths, these ideas will help you create heavier and more unsettling sounds in your productions.

Asynchronous Minimal Ambient with OP-1 field and norns shield | Confluence 2026-03-06 by atnr

video upload by atnr

"A piece created with ‪@teenageengineering‬ OP-1 field, ‪@KORG_INC‬ NTS-1, and norns shield. It is minimal ambient where overlapping asynchronous phrases gradually change.

On the OP-1 field, a 38 step phrase runs with the ENDLESS sequencer while reverb from ‪@strymon‬ blueSky is applied.

On the NTS-1, a square wave tone shaped with a filter is processed with delay and reverb, and sequenced by the SQ-1.

On the norns shield, a piano phrase is recorded into Graintopia with slight distortion and processed with granular synthesis. Delay and reverb from ‪@ChaseBlissAudio‬ LOST+FOUND are applied.

The three sound sources run without synchronization. Their timing differences create subtle changes in the evolving sound texture."
