Modular Live Patch #04 (Modular Pop, Repatch)

Modular Live Patch #04 (Modular Pop, Repatch) from BendingBus on Vimeo.

"A sizzling 'repatch' of last month's patch. Uses a MacBeth MK-1 Oscillator 'B' into a Moog Clusterflux stereo chorus for the main arpeggio at 0:07, then another MacBeth osc for the glide-lead at 0:23 (with some stereo spring reverb and a Moog delay). Messed around with the MOTM-730 to trigger the lead, and at 1:54 switched the whole piece to double time. Also some bandpass filter tweaking of white noise throughout, using a MacBeth Filter 'B'. Drums are CR-78 sounds.

Enjoy, full-res audio downloadable here: https://www.bendingbus.com/downloads"

Modular Live Patch #03 (Modular Pop w/ CR-78)

Modular Live Patch #03 (Modular Pop w/ CR-78) from BendingBus on Vimeo.

"Nerdy technical talk...

The basics of the patch use a MOTM-730 Pulse Divider to ping the modules rhythmically (the left/right tones, and the center melody which plays triplets). These pings are slaved to the rhythm sequencer's clock, which is loaded up with some CR-78 samples. I ended up using a digital sine (programmed in the sequencer) for the bass, normally I don't use digi, but it's good for a clean (no harmonics) sine.

The in-your-face filtering @ 0:10 is a MOTM-410 into a Moog Cluster Flux chorus for some stereo width, then into an API 550EQ + 2500 compressor for midrange glory. The melody @ 0:36 is a MacBeth MK-1 voice, featuring some stereo spring reverb compressed thru an LA2A for a nice warm ambiance. Around half way thru @ 2:23 I turn on a sizzly MacBeth pulse wave riff which is playing an arpeggio from the MOTM-650, compressed thru an 1176 for bite. Near the end @ 4:30 you can hear the background texture more clearly which is an arpeggio thru a Moog stereo 12-stage phaser in a bath of Harmonizer echoes.

Enjoy. You can download the full resolution studio master here... https://www.bendingbus.com/downloads"

EQD

Published on Nov 27, 2016 Richard Galbraith

Update: this video was pulled and re-uploaded as a shorter version which you can find here.

"This was recorded in two overdubbed takes. The first take is a bed of deep synth tones, provided by my MU modular, with added Arturia Microbrute and Mutable Instruments Rings in Easter Egg mode.

The second take is a Sela cajon which I mic'd with two mics: one for cajon audio and the other plugged into the Synthesizers.com instrument interface in order to trigger Rings. Thus, in this take you can hear the strumming sound of Rings with every cajon hit.

Key modules include Synthesizers.com's oscillators, Q150 low pass filter, and quantizer bank; Megaohm Audio Delta low pass filter; SSL/Fritz Doubledeka oscillator; FSFX/Fritz Teezer oscillator, and the MOTM 480 band pass filter.

Reverb and effects by Valhalla DSP."

Minimal Techno

"Overmodulated and compressed? Yes, but this it the first time I've ever used the AUDIO IN feature on my FutureRetro XS monosynth, so I've got the percussion from the Korg EMX being split through both the XS synth and another channel through the Oakley Diode Superladder filter with an additional Morphing Terrarium input. Lots more craziness going on but either way, good times. I'm afraid to even know what this sounds like on a mobile phone but with headphones is a nice mushy mess of low end lol."

Reznik Dreams at the 1AC

Published on Jun 13, 2016 davidryle

"A wandering dreamlike idea. Using the Flame Chord Machine, Piston Honda, Clouds, Mysteron and Segwencer IV (two of them) to follow the Pressure Points sequence and radio noise which is stepped from a Q960 sequencer. Lots of random treatments with two Turing Machines.

The voltage controlled radio module, a noise module, a MOTM 440, a Serge 1973 filter, a CGS Real Ring Modulator, an Ian Fritz DDVCO all worked with feedback loops through an Encore Frequency Shifter to create the metallic noise.
The Segwencer was picking apart the four part chords in random fashion from a Turing Machine and the arpeggiator portion of the Chord Machine drove a suite of MosLab 901 vco's to add counterpoint to the Piston Honda sequence. The Mysteron and a Q106 vco were filtered through a STG Soundlabs Post Lawsuit LPF for the bass line.
A little homage to a favorite 'machinist' movie."

iNDEX05 - Compilation Featuring Parallel Worlds, Dave Bessell & Self Oscillate

MATRIXSYNTH Member, Bakis Sirros of Parallel Worlds participates with 4 collab tracks in this compilation: 2 tracks by PW & Dave Bessell and 2 tracks by PW & Self Oscillate.

iNDEX05 - Compilation
DiN50 | 2016 | Limited to 1,000 copies
Release date June 24th 2016
info here:

http://www.din.org.uk/din/node/505

"iNDEX05 is the fifth DiN compilation album and includes two tracks each from the titles DiN41 - 49. The artists on show this time are Ian Boddy, Node, ARC, Dave Bessell (one of the members of Node) and collaborations between Parallel Worlds & Dave Bessell, Ian Boddy & Markus Reuter, Erik Wøllo & Bernhard Wöstheinrich and Parallel Worlds & Self Oscillate.

As with the previous four DiN samplers DiN label boss Ian Boddy has mixed and cross-faded the 18 tracks into a continuous ambient mix that not only showcases the albums featured on the release but presents an exciting and varied title in its own right. It also highlights the varied and intriguing music that the DiN label offers on its releases from deep analogue synth grooves through vibrantly melodic instrumentals to powerful, epic ambient atmospheres. An intoxicating mix of the old and new beautifully presented in a slimline cardboard wallet with an extra flap which just adds to the value and collectibility of this release.

This compilation edited from the original tracks by Ian Boddy - January 2016"

Mellow Moon II

Published on May 12, 2016 John L Rice

"More of the same music from Moon Modular and Synth Tech modules, out of focus sequencer video plus some Moon video footage I shot from my driveway Wednesday night.

Moon Modular 569 sequencer shot with a Canon C100 MkI camera and Canon 135mm f/2.8 soft focus lens, set to the #2 soft focus setting and then dialed completely out of focus.

The actual Moon was shot with a Canon C100 MkI camera and
Opteka 500mm f/6.3 mirror lens for the first two clips and then I added in the 2x converter for the second two clips, effectively making the reach 1000mm.

Both times the C100 A/V output was recorded to an Atomos Ninja Blade using the DNxHD 4.2.2 x codec.

Thank you for watching, rating and commenting! :-)"

Journey Of The Toys by John L Rice

"Here's something I threw together recently. It was just a test I wasn't even going to record and then the concept quickly started to become a multi-tracked audio/video monster that needed too many more parts and fixing/redos so I threw in the towel and just left it as-is and audio only. :-/

First heard is a Moog Sub Phatty through a Strymon DIG but was tacked on later and I had plans to add some drone and percussion stuff underneath it that I never got around to adding.

This project actually began with a patch on my big 5U modular synth using 3 Synth Tech MOTM-300 VCOs with both Triangle and Saw waves each into the first 6 channels of a Modcan Scanner 69B then out to two Happy Nerding FM AIDs, a Super Sawtor and Fun VCF and then finally to a Synth Tech MOTM-190 VCA and two MOTM-800 EGs. That's the sequenced "clack clack clack" in the background and driven by a Moon Modular 569 sequencer amd 569ESB+569EGB expanders with transposition handled by a M-Audio Keystation 88 through a Synth Tech MOTM-650 MIDI to CV module and the keyboard's MIDI out was also controlling a Mellotron M4000D Rack at the same time with a couple different choir sound sets.

The first main melody section starts out with drums from a Zoom 234 drum machine played by hand (I did a track of just bass and snare first and then another track of just ride cymbal). There is also a track of 2 acoustic dumbeks (hand drums) mostly buried in the mix. A Moog Sub Phatty through a Strymon DIG is used for the melody solo.

The next melody section is played with the Sub Phatty + DIG again and also there is a track of acoustic xylophone.

At the beginning of the last melody section the Mellotron sounds bigger because I started playing chords and the sequence might sound subtly different at times depending on how I hit the chord and which note was grabbed for the transposition. The ascending synth voice that fades in is a Moog MinitMoog through the DIG pedal, the chimes are actual acoustic ones and the fast descending arp that fades in last is the Sub Phatty + DIG again.

(note: the picture associated with the soundcloud track isn't the modular patch used in this piece, it's one I took months ago)"

Where Good Intentions Go To Die

Published on Apr 14, 2016 John L Rice

"Teknikal Mumbalo Jumbalo:

A Control 66B was feeding CV to two 55B dual quantizers that sent thier outputs to four MOTM-300 VCOs. The VCO triangle outputs went to a 31B quad VCA and those outputs went to four channels of a SM-10 line mixer. The 60B quad EG modulated the 31B and the 60B and 55Bs were gated by a 568 trigger sequencer. A M4000D was used for the oboe and female voice soloing and a BigSky provided the reverb."
