Press release follows:

Cherry Audio has announced SH-MAX, an innovative software synthesizer that integrates three legendary SH-series synths from the '70s: the SH-5, SH-7, and SH-3A.

Cherry Audio has announced the launch of SH-MAX, an innovative software synthesizer that integrates three legendary SH-series synthesizers from the 1970s: the SH-5, SH-7, and SH-3A. SH-MAX captures the bold sound of the SH-5 while incorporating features and aesthetics from the other models, enhancing the original designs with greater power, versatility, and essential tools for modern music production. Musicians and vintage synth enthusiasts can start using SH-MAX today for the incredibly low price of just $59, available at cherryaudio.com and authorized resellers worldwide.

SH-MAX faithfully recreates the vibrant tones and workflow of the original SH hardware. It features powerful dual oscillators, two LFOs and ADSR envelopes, the dual-parallel multimode and bandpass filter sections, and the five-channel mixer of the SH-5 (1976), plus a ring modulator and sample/hold capability. Also included are autobend, duophony, filter FM, and the syncable VCOs with additional waveforms found in the SH-7 (1978). The extra additive-style oscillator from the SH-3A (1975) further enhances sound design flexibility. Moreover, SH-MAX incorporates and expands upon the expressive touch performance of the SH-2000 (1973) and features an onboard sequencer inspired by the Model 104 of the legendary System 100 semi-modular synthesizer from 1975.

SH-MAX honors its lineage while taking full advantage of modern software capabilities, supporting mono, duophonic, and 16-voice polyphonic operation for rich chords as well as earthshaking unison timbres. It features three unique retro interface themes that pay homage to the aesthetic of the SH-3A, SH-5, and SH-7, providing a visually immersive experience for true vintage synth enthusiasts. Additionally, optional drift and slop controls for the oscillators, filters, amp, and dual envelope generators introduce authentic analog character and warmth to every sound patch.

The highly flexible SH-style stereo mixer and its varied workflow options allow for modular-style signal routing. Each sound source -- VCO-1, VCO-2A, VCO-2B, the ring modulator, and noise -- can be independently routed to the VCF, BPF, or VCA, with each path enhanced with its own chain of studio-quality effects. With 20 effects available to arrange and reuse within its four chains, SH-MAX provides an exceptionally wide sonic palette. Additional features include a four-channel step sequencer capable of parallel playback or extended chaining, along with a touch effects panel that supports channel and polyphonic aftertouch with compatible MIDI controllers.

SH-MAX's legacy traces back to over five decades of synthesizer and electronic music innovation. The SH-series synthesizers have been used by a diverse range of artists, including Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Jean-Michel Jarre, Brian Eno, Gary Numan, Throbbing Gristle, Skinny Puppy, Aphex Twin, Orbital, Mathew Jonson, Pink Floyd, Nine Inch Nails, Kitaro, MGMT, Vangelis, The Human League, Blondie, Yello, and more.

With SH-MAX, users can create everything from massive leads and thick basses to lush pads and exceptional sound effects, making it a true synthesis powerhouse at their fingertips. To inspire musicians right out of the box, SH-MAX includes over 300 expertly crafted presets that showcase its broad capabilities. For those wanting even more, the Maximum Overdrive Preset Pack by sound designer James Dyson is available from Cherry Audio for $9.99, offering 100 additional presets that highlight SH-MAX's raw analog tone, advanced modulation, four-channel step sequencer, and abundant effects.

Furthermore, until February 22nd, customers can take advantage of Cherry Audio's "Build Your Own Bundle" promotion at cherryaudio.com. Choose the Pick 3 bundle for $99 (regularly $129) or the Pick 6 bundle for $149 (regularly $169) to mix and match any of Cherry Audio's award-winning instruments for as low as $25 per plugin.

Cherry Audio's SH-MAX synthesizer is now available for $59 at cherryaudio.com and authorized resellers worldwide. SH-MAX is a virtual instrument for macOS (10.13 and later) and Windows (7 and later), provided as AU, VST, VST3, and AAX plugins, as well as a standalone application. A free 30-day demo is available. Turismo - Iterative Drone Composition

video upload by ALM TV

"Our Eurorack modular workstation the 'Turismo' is well suited for sequencing beats and groove box style patching but the versatile system can fit equally well into less structured environments. In this patch we explored using the Turismo for iterative drone composition, making use of the system's stereo line input and output and flexible set of modules to generate, record and reprocess sound in combination with a 4 track cassette recorder.

Check with dealers on the right for availability.

Additional details via ALM:

Our Eurorack modular workstation the 'Turismo' is well suited for sequencing beats and groove box style patching but the versatile system can fit equally well into less structured environments.

In this patch we explored using the Turismo for iterative drone composition, making use of the system's stereo line input and output and flexible set of modules to generate, record and reprocess sound in combination with a 4 track cassette recorder.

To start we connected the line out of the Turismo to the first 2 tracks of the 4 track, to capture our patch. We inserted a cassette tape and began recording a prepatched droning ambient soundscape to tape. The patch took full advantage of the system's collection of modules to generate and process the sound. Over the course of recording, we made some tweaks to the patch to subtly evolve our sounds. After a few minutes of recording we faded the sounds out and stopped the tape.

Reprocessing
Next we reset the system and rewound our tape, then repatched the output of the 4 track directly to the stereo line input of the MEGA MILTON utility module so we could reprocess our original patch back through the Turismo in a unique iterative compositional process.

We connected the amplified left and right outputs of the MEGA MILTON directly to channels 1 and 2 of the MEGA-TANG mixer and VCA, increasing their levels and hard panning them left and right. We set the tape to play at half speed, then began playback. The full system was then available to process the recording.

We connected the FX send of the MEGA-TANG to the record input of the Squid Salmple and returned the output for channel 6 back to the MEGA-TANG. Outside of conventional sample playback, the flexible Squid Salmple can be used like a live processor similar to a delay. To set this up, we started by creating a record buffer. We entered the record menu and locked recording to channel 1 by holding the Chan button and pressing the Rec button. We also set the record mode to 'overdub' for a smoother sound. Next we connected a x1 clock output from Pamela's PRO Workout to the record gate input to continuously trigger recording.

Miami Vice and Melrose Place Oberheim DPX-1 Vintage Sample Player?

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

The SN appears to be 750645 which was listed back in 2017 here - same marks on the back. Note the description for the new listing states this was owned by Tim Truman with a note on it being used on Miami Vice and Melrose Place, but there's no mention of that in the previous post.

"Here is a fine example of the classic DPX-1. It can playback various sample formats such as from the Ensoniq Mirage, Emulator II, etc. This unit has been owned by Tim Truman originally, composer of the theme to Melrose Place among many other pieces of music for TV/FILM.

The following upgrades have been installed:

- PSU recapped by Andrei Kudryavtsev
- Floppy drive replaced with HXC Rev F floppy emulator
- OS upgraded to latest version

The PSU on the DPX is notorious for blowing capacitors, so having your DPX recapped is an absolute must. With these upgrades you can be confident that your DPX will give you years of trouble-free use. I'm including some of Tim Truman's personal sound disks. The 5.25" floppies are included as-is, while the 3.5" floppies have been converted into images to use with the emulator.

Also, I have put many other sample collections onto the SD card such as the Ensoniq Mirage library. Everything works 100 percent on this and sounds great. Please feel free to message me any questions about it, thanks!"

STRAYLIGHT has a bespoke granular engine that places the source audio into a powerful and specialized – yet easy-to-use – interface. Harness lush, organic timbres that can defy time and pitch, yet still retain the pristine character of the source sounds (strings, glass, stone, membranes, and more), and sonically evolve over time (risers and transitions can adapt automatically to project tempo).

Small sounds can be vastly magnified in size and scope without sacrificing their sound quality or character. The granular engine is then paired with a layer from the sample module, offering the same level of editing and modulation.

PERFORM REAL-TIME MODULATION

STRAYLIGHT’s modulation and effects sections ensure a fast, creative workflow. The precise X-Y control enables expressive direct-to-picture performance and detailed control over intensity and timing. Apply and modulate up to 14 different effects – taken from nine different categories: Filters, dynamics, EQs, gaters, drivers, modulation, delays, utilities, and reverbs. STRAYLIGHT even includes specially captured reverb impulse responses, selected to complement its audio content and granular engine.

Easily assign MIDI CC to the XY matrix, and use it in conjunction with master effects to ride intensity, direct to picture.

Both the granular and sample modules offer deep editing possibilities for personalizing the source sounds and intelligent randomization for generating new sounds quickly.

Use tempo-synced grain cursor speeds for creating perfectly timed transitions and risers.

Select up to four different effect types each for the grain and sample layers, plus four additional master effects, and two send effects – and you can assign parameters from all those effects to macros or the X-Y matrix.

Tag based browsing for both presets and sound sources makes it easy to find what you’re looking for. Tags even apply when randomizing the modules."

Matt Morton on Moog IIIc Modular Synth and the Apollo 11 Soundtrack

Published on Jun 3, 2018 Matt Morton Music

Playlist:

1. Moog IIIc techno sketch
Stumbled on this little sketch while I was taking a break from scoring (finishing up 'Apollo 11' which will premiere on opening night of the 2019 Sundance Film Festival on January 24, and then hit theaters and TV in the spring/summer of 2019) and I was playing around with my Q963 trigger busses. Seems like the really fun ideas usually come when you're not looking for them too hard.

Gear used: Moog Synthesizer IIIc reissue, Soundgas modified Binson Echorec 2 (with varispeed and wet-only out), Synthesizers.com Q960 sequencers, trigger bus, signal selector, and foot control for filter cutoff, BAE 1073MPF mic preamps, Radial JDI direct boxes and ReAmp feeding the Binson (via RME Fireface 800)
2. Moog IIIc and valve varispeed Binson Echorec 2 T7E
This is me improvising on my 2017 Moog Synthesizer IIIc reissue, fed into a Soundgas Ltd. valve Binson Echorec 2 T7E (with varispeed and wet-only mods). The kick is a mixture of two sources: a kick I synthesized on the Moog using sine and triangle waves, and a kick I recorded from my 1967 Ace Tone Rhythm Ace. The eighth note bass line is coming from my Minimoog Model D reissue. For the main part (that you see me doing live), the dry signal is panned hard right, and the Binson's wet-only output (thanks Soundgas!) is panned hard left. I captured them with BAE 1073 MPF preamps and Radial JDI Jensen-equipped DIs. Also, the Moog-style sequencers (along with most of the other non-Moog modules I'm using) are by Synthesizers.com.
3. Matt Morton on Moog IIIc Modular Synth
This is a quick sketch on my 2017 Moog IIIc Modular Synthesizer Reissue (serial number 19 of 25 made). I'm also using modules by Synthesizers.com (including two Q960 sequencers) and STG Soundlabs (Post-Lawsuit Filter on the non-sequenced bass voice).

And from the Apollo 11 soundtrack:

The soundtrack is currently available on Amazon.

via Synthtopia

"The highly-acclaimed film (currently rated 100% on Rotten Tomatoes) features a score by composer Matt Morton, who chose to score it using an expanded palette of orchestra + electronics – but only using instruments that would have been available in 1969.

Morton says that every instrument and effect used in the score existed at the time of the mission in 1969 including the Moog modular Synthesizer IIIc, the Binson Echorec 2 tube echo, the Mellotron sample playback keyboard and the instruments of the orchestra."

Strymon Magneto Echo Mode [Episode 123]

Published on Mar 2, 2019 CatSynth TV

"We explore the Magneto four-head tape echo and looper module from Strymon, focusing specifically on the echo mode. We examine the basic functions of the record and playback heads, as well as the various quality controls such as Tape Age, Crinkle and Wow&Flutter.

The Pluck module from 2hp is used as a sound source for all examples in this video.

www.strymon.net

Packed with powerful features while maintaining intuitive playability, Magneto is a stereo multi-head tape delay that also functions as a looper, phrase sampler, vintage spring reverb unit, phase-aligned clock multiplier, chaotic oscillator, zero latency sub-oscillator and more, with extensive CV I/O.

"Nostalgic for vintage sound encodings, 80s computer speakers, or the SPC Delay from a famous 16-bit console? chipcrusher's got all that, plus grit (background noise) and filter-impulse responses.

HOW DOES IT SOUND?
There is a wide spectrum of results achievable with chipcrusher. Here are a few use cases:

Uniquely destroy/mangle a beat, a guitar or any other audio track.
Play single hits and emulate the sound of old samplers.
Add ‘accurate dirt’ to chipsounds’s output.
Emulate a classic 16-bit console's "Delay/verb" to a track
There are four main components in chipcrusher: DAC Encoding, SPC Delay, Background Noise and Cabinet. The audio inputs first go to the DAC Encoding. Then gets processed by the SPC Delay, mixed with the Background Noise to finally get sent to the Cabinet stage. Of course, each component can be bypassed on demand without muting the audio.
