"Hey Guys,
In this video I take you through the restoration of Rick Wakeman's Old Polymoog that now belongs to Steve. (he purchased it from Rick and has a letter of authenticity) I preserved some areas while completely restoring and servicing others to keep this a historical unit but also very much usable.

This unit in particular would have been used on the YES album, 'Going For The One'.

Needless to say this was a very exciting project for me growing up listening to Rick Wakeman/YES as well as my appreciation for Dr. Dave Luce and the Polymoog.

Special thanks to Steve for giving me the opportunity to work on this Polymoog!

Etches is a touch-controlled synthesizer with FM oscillator, tape-style delay, stereo reverb, and an 160-second recorder. The series moves from setup through performance: power and calibration first, then articulation, sound design, effects, tuning, and finally the recorder.

**What's covered across the series:**

1. **Getting Started** — Power, stereo output, how the touch-resistive pads respond, SWELL as volume control, and calibrating SENS to your environment.

2. **The Articulation Pads** — STAC for plucked envelopes, DRIVE as combined overdrive and FM intensifier, INVERSE for parameter drift across seven destinations.

3. **The Oscillator** — FM synthesis basics, EDGE waveshape morphing, CYCLE for pluck character, and the FLUX/ORBIT pair that controls FM depth and rate.

4. **Effects** — Tape-style delay with self-oscillation, stereo reverb (SUSTAIN, FORM, WALLS), and the default signal flow through the instrument.

5. **Tuning** — ROOT for tonic, SCALE for quantization across twelve built-in scales, INDEX/SHIFT for ±4 octaves of transposition.

6. **The Recorder** — Splices vs. loops, REC and OVERDUB, the START/END loop window, TRAVEL as LFO modulation of loop points, SCROLL between splices, BLEND and SPEED, and the two routing modes.

In this video we take a detailed look at the QUAID GIGASLOPE's 'Envelope' mode, building a simple 2 stage envelope, adding a sustain phase to create an ADSR, then increasing the stages to build a larger complex multistage envelope.

The QUAID GIGASLOPE is a four-channel multi-mode modulator, with each channel outputting a variable staged slope that can act as a complex envelope, flexible LFO, or step sequence.

Each slope can contain up to 13 stages, which may be independent or overlap with other stages. Slopes can be triggered or run freely, with both manual and CV control over each stage’s level, duration, and curve. The output range of each slope can be set and optionally quantised to musical scales. Trigger outputs are available at the end of each stage and at the completion of a slope.

In this video we take a detailed look at the QUAID GIGASLOPE's 'Loop' mode, using it to build unique custom LFOs with up to 13 stages.

As with any creative endeavor, in the beginning, there is nothing… Then comes the encounter of an idea or two, or three, with the machine, THE machine, THE synthesizer that fills your sonic space with its rich sounds.

The moonlit night reveals 'delicate shadows,' like the harmonics of the Heritage Modular's sounds. From this, the track 'Delicate Shadows' was born, to expand the dimensions of the synthesizer itself, to fill the space of a room, if only for a few minutes.

It is the combination of three areas of expertise that allowed this music to come into being: the composition of a gentle, almost melancholic melody; the mastery of the code that makes the speaker diaphragms vibrate; and the electronic design that carries the electrical signal through the circuits, allowing it to vibrate freely.

"I've been preparing to sell my 296T this week, because it's too big, I rarely use it and I do not like the nasal and harsh resonant character too much. Sure it's personal, because the 296T is a faithful recreation of the original classic model (and it also sounds like the more modern LED version 296e). I've explored the module in many videos, but best results were achieved when I patched my Mellotron in it (see 207T video in playlist).

I've been browsing youtube for patch examples, to do a final check on true Buchla versions, because maybe I overlooked something. I did not, it is what it is and I can either accept it, or sell it. In either case I need to stop whining about it. But then I found a cool video from the Sonny Downs Quartet channel, where a simple dual VCO in a 'chord' setting was spectrally transferred into beautiful textures. And then I realized the 296T is eurorack and every I/O can be used. Anyway, I decided to keep the 296T after all, and this video may help to explain why."

NRsynth Quatuor Goes to Outer Space & Famous Sounds and Songs
