Spectral Audio Cyclus 3

From the makers of the ProTone and Neptune line of hardware synths.

* A combination of analogue style and digital style sequencing.
* 112 patterns with each 8 tracks. Each pattern can be named ( 8 characters ).
* Easy to learn and operate
* 30 songs with each 253 steps of pattern change and TRACK ON/OFF change (always shifts in the end of track one).
* All tracks can loop independently. They doesn’t have to be equal in length.
* Each of the 8 tracks has 5 subtracks: note(pitch), xtranote, step length, note off time, velocity, ctrl value, ctrl length, ctrl glide on/off. The ctrl tracks can also transmit pitch bend, prg change and sysex messages. You have to choose between xtranote or controller subtracks.
* Last step (Loop point) can be set separately for each of the subtracks, for creating ever-changing complex tracks.
* Change basic pitch, note spread, subtrack loop points, step note pitch, xtra note pitch, step length, step off-time, step velocity, ctrl values, ctrl step lengths, ctrl step glide on/offs, copy a track (or part of it) to itself or another track and randomize, all in analogue style, while the Cyclus is running.
* Create new tracks from an external midi-device, in real or step time or by tweaking the Cyclus knobs (analogue style). After a real time recording, it analyses the note and controller data, and creates analogue style tracks from them, which then afterwards can be totally analogue style tweaked, even when the Cyclus is running.
* Create songs step by step, or start the Cyclus in song rec mode, and change patterns in real time.
* Tempo is stored with each pattern. In song mode patterns are played back in their own tempo.
* One track can modulate the basic pitch of another track.
* Pitch bend values can be transmitted instead of note values, to create something that sounds like a real analogue sequencer over midi.
* Track midi key split function: a track can run on 2 midi different channels, above and below a split point. The upper zone can be transposed. This function also works on the midi input, when merge (canalize) is on.
* Spread transform function. If you have created a great piece of music, with note spread set to ’8’, and you want one of the notes to be 1 octave higher, just enter the spread transformer, and change the note spread to f.ex. ’64’, without changing your melodic line.
* Plenty of memory for all patterns/songs. Will never write ”out of memory”.
* Transmits/receives midi-clock.
* 154 x 132mm
* Use for Desk or Rack mount with Ears.
* Possibility for battery operation (see section support)

Devine Machine - Krishna Synth - Frame Synthesis

"The Krishna Synth has been designed to be a versatile instrument for both performance and studio recording. Its stunning new Frame Synthesis lets you import and build sounds from sampled instruments and synth waveforms—then modify the nature of those sounds through a huge set of DSP functions.

Krishna Synth introduces a new type of oscillator called 'Frame Oscillator', that works together with Frame Analysis Technology (F.A.T.).

Beside the Frame Oscillator, Krishna Synth provides 2 Analog Oscillators, created to emulate old vintage synthetizers, with optional 'oldness' factor and desync, which can bring life to your tunes instantly.

Five LFOs are built-in, with total routing capabilities, including midi out. They can also be used as additional oscillators to offer unlimited sound creation.

The on-board digital effects processor includes a Tube distortion with customizable cabinet size and frequency, and a High Quality Effect Chain with Phaser, Flanger, Chorus, Delay and Reverb, fully parametrable in depth, and easy to use at the same time.

Everything in Krishna Synth can sync to your host. Every control will follow your BPM, unless you want something different.

All play modes are possible: Legato, Mono, Unison with Pitch detune, Phase delay, but also random options, Time or Distance Portamento, Build-in Hold implementation, Distinct up and down values for Pitchbend range, as well as distinct up and down speed for it and many other options that you would be happy to see in other synths!"

"I teach Music Technology in a small college in Ireland so I mostly use this just to inform my students about gear, electronic music and things I am interested in. Also I do a half hour show on the radio about Music Tech news so I update the website with things I talk about on the radio (for example free software). I try where possible to relate my blogs to Ireland so I talk about IMRO (irish royalty collection agencies) and Irish electonic events like DEAF. I always direct my students to your website [Matrixsynth] as a great source of information."

You'll find a ton of great content currently up including this Sesame Street classic possibly featuring the Minimoog for audio. I actually remember it!

I bought UA-101 last week. UA-101 is USB2.0-compatible audio interface with 10-channel audio I/O. I threw out an old analog mixer and installed it to my live rig. All audio signals are fed to DAW separately, so I can freely route signals on DAW in realtime (thanks to Ableton). I think this is a wonderful solution for streaming live performances..."

1961 Electronics World - Build a Transistorized Theremin

via this auction.
Details:
"Increasingly hard to find, this nearly half-century-old issue of Electronics World contains a fascinating how-to on building that special effects staple of scores of classic sci-fi flicks, the theremin, by none other than electronic music pioneer Robert Moog. The feature article contains a complete schematic and parts list, as well as chassis layout and photos of the completed unit. There are even tips on how to play the ethereal instrument. You get the entire original 1961 magazine, not a couple photocopied pages like you find elsewhere on Ebay.

Also in this issue is a homebrew stereo balancer using 6FG6 magic eye tubes and a look at beam power tubes in VHF oscillators, plus an article on early computer logic circuits, both vacuum tube and transistor-based. Apart from some minor cover wear, the magazine is in excellent condition."

Oscillatrix mk4 Solid State 2 Oscillator Device

via this auction.
Details:
"Two solid-state multi-vibrator circuits, each with momentary and latching on switches, volume, pitch, and pitch-drop switches. Other features include 4 position series-parallel path switch, 1/4 inch output, funky LED- inside bubble lights, three position cap-bleed-decay switch, all mounted in a old B+K Cathode Rejuvenator Tester chassis and wooden case.(Note: wooden case is filthy)

This thing sounds terrifying and alive and honestly the only reason i'm parting with it is an incentive to build an army of them! Unstable moans and groans and exited chimps and aggressive insect attacks. Runs on a 9v battery or BossTM- style adapter. Will include flow-chart w/ purchase for better understanding of units' features. point to point turret construction perfectly executed.

For sound samples specific to this auction please vist us at: link."

Synton Syrinx

Click here for shots via this auction.
Details:

"Synton Syrinx BLUE edition - it is the most expanded Syrinx ever made - look at the picture for the inputs, the black edition and even the expander version doesn´t have that.

My Syrinx has been serviced one week ago and is in very good condition for it´s age!

The Syrinx uses seven Curtis chips for its VCO's, VCF's and envelopes. It has two analog VCO's, a sub-oscillator and three flexible VCF filters. You can switch between the three filters for either a 24 dB lowpass, or two bandpass filters, and they can be patched in four different ways (series/parallel). Additionally the Syrinx has two LFO's, FM, PWM, osc-sync, 2 ADSR envelopes, ring modulation, portamento and a cool touch-pad that can control various parameters from pitch-bending to the LFO rate. The Syrinx's Mixer section lets you adjust levels for each VCO and the sub-osc as well as the Noise Generator and Ring Modulator."

Synthesized Sounds: Beach & Sea

"I've put video to some older synthesizer audio files I've done over the years. They make good demonstrations of what can be accomplished using analog subtractive synthesis. MOOG Liberation

Title link takes you to shots via this auction.
Details:
"This is a custom model that was modified directly from the Moog factory...
First of all, it has a really nice custom paint job... baby blue with yellow trim and mod-style yellow arrow up the back. The ribbon controller has been replaced with a pitch/mod wheel. The wheel is not center-detented or spring loaded and at first I didn't like as much as the ribbon controller on the Micromoog I used to have, but after a few minutes of playing around with it, I changed my mind as it is very expressive and allows for very natural, smooth manual vibrato and the notch in the wheel fits right into the players thumb so it can be manipulated very quickly. There are some additional switches on the neck compared to the stock Liberations I've seen. There is one marked "Ext Trig on/off" which presumably allows you to turn off the CV/gate to an external synth (located on the rackmount interface) so that you can double your lead lines with an external synth, then switch it off when returning to rhythm or bass line (much like the feature included on the Polypedal with the Polymoog). There is an unmarked switch below it which changes between low and high note priority... this is very handy when using the monosynth (2 oscillators plus ring mod) along with the polyphonic (i.e. divide down oscillators) section, as the monosynth can be selected to play either the bass or lead part of a chord with the flip of a switch."

Gnarls Barkley Crazy Theremin Jam

YouTube via ooo6.
"This video is an experiment to see how rapidly the theremin can be injected into the world's collective consciousness. It's amazing that not everyone knows what a theremin is. It was the first electronic musical instrument and it was invented in 1919. Are Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse from Gnarls Barkley really theremin players? There's only one way to find out!

some notes:
The main theremin was passed through iZotope Trash, an awesome software guitar effects plugin. The video was edited entirely in Adobe After Effects. The hand on the carpet was to simulate wind noise, definitely cause for confusion. This also means all the parts of the song were performed with hands only. CRAZY!

Randy - Moog Etherwave Pro Theremin, Moog Etherwave Theremin, Minimoog Voyager, carpet
KD - Akai MPC drum machine
OG - background vocals on keyboard
Elliot - bass and guitar

This video performance is dedicated to the pioneers, Leon Theremin and Bob Moog, who devoted their lives to music in the electronic medium. Without them the music world would not be what it is today.

If you enjoyed this, please subscribe! It can only get better from this point forward."

Terry Riley's ''In C"

"This was billed as the first performance of ''In C'' by an all-electronic ensemble, and it was exciting to see on the same platform such a diverse array of people and machines: Robert Moog and one of his classic synthesizers, Donald Buchla and an apparatus from which sounds were squeezed out by mallets, Zeena Perkins and a small electronic harp making decisive attacks, Pauline Oliveros on accordion, two members of the X-ecutioners niftily handling turntables, Greg Howard adding grungy harmonies on his Chapman stick, John Musto and George Steel often keeping the pulse steady and fast on a Yamaha Disklavier, and many more, on instruments both standard (electric guitar, ondes martenot, theremin) and irregular."

Combination Threshold/Gate/Trigger/Sample/Hold Circuit

"The chaos generators being developed here are of the "flow" variety. This means that the outputs are continuosly varying voltages. It is important to be able to generalize these by deriving chaotic sequences of discrete voltages and chaotic sequences of timing signals. The circuit below was designed to do just that."

That would definitely be a little bit of history right there.
