Tama Techstar TSQ1000 & TS505 Drum Synth & Sequencer
"super rare and great Tama Techstar TSQ1000 sequencer and the matching TS505 drum synth to go with it. DO NOT underestimate this drum synth! It surely runs circles around the tr808 and 909... as it can do those classic sounds and allot more. There is lots of info online about the TS505. This combo lets you step sequence the TS505 in the same fashion as you would sequence the TR808. All cables to hook the two machines together are included!"

How to Make a Cheap Multitouch Pad - MTmini

-Software and Getting Started Guide-
-------------------------------------
* MTmini Software and Updates: http://sethsandler.com/multitouch/mtm...
-What's a MTmini?-
-------------------------------------
Don't have a Multitouch Table yet? Have one, but need something smaller for testing? Building a small portable multitouch pad will allow you to test software and experiment on a smaller scale while building your full table or when away from your multitouch screen. Have fun and make a MTmini! This uses Front Diffused Illumination, with normal ambient light (infrared not required or needed) and a normal off-the-shelf webcam (IR filter can still be in place).
-How's it Work?-
-------------------------------------
For this to work, all you need is a room with (at least) some light. The results will be best when the room lighting is even (no bright lights shinning from one direction onto the multitouch pad).
When you place you fingers on the surface, shadows are created where your fingers are. The webcam sees these shadows and sends the image to the tracking software which tracks the shadows as they move on the surface.
It's important to try different lighting setups and to configure the software in order to get the best results.

"HELLO WORLD! Decided its right about time I started making some videos for my tracks. So, this is me performing a live version of my track "Jungle Nightfall" (not nightfail as it might look like it says...) Machinedrum + Monomachine and a little KP3 for added spice. I'll try and find a better position to record from next time so you can see whats going on.
EDIT: the audio quality on youtube is SHYTE, so please visit http://soundcloud.com/siesta-submarina if you want to hear this and other tracks in better quality, or you can download most of my tracks for free for top audio quality :)

"HAY AGAIN! Look, I found a nifty way to place my camera in such an angle and place that you can actually see what I'm doing (or, if you are familiar with elektron gear anyway). So, this is a re-make of mytrack "Kolibri", originally MD only, but added the lovely Monomachine for the growly bass and some clean chord sounds. For some reason, the 16th hihats are killing the audio, but you get the idea :) Please go to http://soundcloud.com/siesta-submarina for free wav, mp3's etc etc. :)"

We are all just waves in a wavetable...

Last month I received a Facebook message stating I had been tagged in this image from Billy Kurniadi's Photos. I noted the custom wood knobs, and thought, how cool, so of course I posted it. I saw a ton of other names tagged as well, many I recognized like James Maeier aka Carbon111 who hosts the excellent XT resource site, Stefan Trippler who hosts trippler.net, Wolfram Franke and Stefan Stenzel of Waldorf, Wolfgang Palm of PPG, the father of wavetable synthesis, and too many others to list here. See Facebook here for the full list. I thought we were all tagged to check out the wood knobs. I'm sure this was the case, however, there might have been another reason. What didn't occur to me at the time was what might have been the actual reference to the tagged names. We are all just waves in a wavetable, waves in synthesis. That is pretty cool.
For those not familiar with wavetable synthesis, in short, a wavetable synth uses wavetables for it's main oscillators. Rather than a basic saw, square, sine, triangle or sample as the source waveform, you have access to a table of multiple single cycle waveforms. A single cycle waveform is pretty much a single snapshot of what you'd see in an oscilloscope. Think of a wavetable as a spreadsheet with each cell containing a different snapshot. In the XT, each wavetable has 64 cells. You can either select one of the static waveforms and use it as an oscillator waveform like you would a saw, square or other waveform, or you can "sweep" through the table by applying any available modulation source like an LFO or envelope. This is how you get evolving textures out of a wavetable synth. For more see Carbon111t's site and Till Kopper's Waldorf FAQ site.
Update: I originally stated Stefan Trippler hosted the Waldorf FAQ site. It's actually Till Kopper.
If you can't get to the Facebook link, click below for the list.

Single Manual Keybord Version of the Sequential Circuits Prophet-10
"Up for sale is an extremely rare Sequential Circuits Prophet 10 keyboard. This synth has just has $700 worth of maintenance put into it, making it flawless. It works great, and sounds better than any synth you have ever heard, HONESTLY. This once is a rare piece, sometime along the way a previous owner had cut off the second tier keyboard, effectively making it a single tier Prophet 10. This modification in no way hinders the performance of the synth, in fact I think the single tier version is optimal. This synth works PERFECTLY, keeps amazing tune and functions day in and day out. This Prophet 10 has MIDI, although I am not sure how to engage the MIDI, or rather how to get it to function. The repair tech had told me that the MIDI passes and should be functioning, yet it is not engaged, most likely a simple fix. Besides the MIDI, this synth is perfect inside and out. Looks great, every button and knob functions as you would expect and as I have previously stated, nothing comes close to this piece in sound. If in NYC, local pickup would be amazing, will ship globally." This one spotted and sent in by dump.fm.

Clavia Nord Lead 2 with Original Box
via this auctionI'm curious how much the printed box costs over a standard cardboard box. Would make for good wallpaper in the studio/office.
"The incredible Nord Lead synthesizer is taken a few steps further with the Nord Lead 2. It uses the same synthesis technology and sounds as good as the Nord Lead, but adds a few nice new touches. These features include a ring modulator, OSC 1 can sync with the white noise generator, increased LFO and arpeggiator waveforms and patterns, distortion in the squelchier punchier filter section and 4 individual outputs.

All the great sound, MIDI control and analog-like sound and design that made the Nord Lead famous return in this new and improved version. The Nord Lead 2 is the synthesizer of choice for many professionals."

"A couple of months ago, a buddy of mine asked me to pick up this Filterbank he found on the Dallas Craigslist. When he came to town to pick it up, we whipped up this quick video of it. First we run an unfiltered saw wave from a Roland SH-101. The gate out from the 101 is running into the FB's ADSR trigger in and the 101's CV out is running into the FB's FM input. Later, we run a Roland TR-606 through it, using the trigger out from the 606's low tom to trigger the FB's ADSR. Let the mayhem begin!"

Double Rainbow ref in this one.
"Has music just not sounded the same to you since Miami Vice went off the air? Then you're in luck! The synth drums in Kong bring analog drum sounds back to your music. Most analog sounds these days are sampled, meaning the sound you load is the sound you've got. In this micro tutorial you'll see how easy it is to make wonderfully tweakable analog synth drums and assign them to your pads."

Turning a Matrix M1000 into a Monster Xpander
via Artesia on this Midibox thread"Heres a little project for you,
its been sat at the back of my mind for a while, that it should be entirely possible to make a oberhiem matrix xpander / m12 type synth from the venerable m1000 rack units, by realising the full potential of what should be possible with the humble little cem3396 chips they are based on.
It seems abit of a shame that the chips are capable of fast, realtime control changes; yet the m1000 processor is so slow ..it just cant cope & the filter cascade should also be hijackable in the manner seen in the matrix 12 / xpander synths (for massive filter choices)... however they also lacked some niceitys, like -proper- resonance control, continuiously variable stereo pan for voices (preset pan positions) ...and having much faster envelopes would bring the chips to life for percissive sounds.
this project intends to allow the user to get the best out of the humble chips, and allow them to realise their full potential - and with a little luck, the project should be a considerable improvement on the xpander synths too ;)"
JRS Mystery Modular?
This one in via Jeff of The Tangeant Project. Anyone know what it is?
Some bits from Jeff:
"I have a collection of odd old modular things that a friend had salvaged from the UMASS music department dumpster. He gave them to me a couple years ago and I have no idea what they are or what they do. I've attached a pic of one of them [i have 3 of this module and another different thing - a VCA bank if I recall]. I searched high and low and nobody can identify them - the closest anyone came was some sort of custom made 'daisy' modular, but that was not even a solid bit of info. They are not in good condition - all the barrier strips for powering them are missing and some chip sockets are empty, but the internal wiring seems to be intact and most of the boards are fully populated. They are just collecting dust in my basement."
Followed with the second image:
"The only identification i have found is an etching with the letters 'JRS' on all of them, and this module seems to be a "PWG-2" ['pulse wave generator'?].
So it's some sort of JRS modular system that is a mystery to everyone - a friend even contacted some people in academia that worked at UMASS and one of them said they recalled seeing it but never used it or knew what it did.
I've just been so afraid to do ANTHING with these, as i can't even tell what they need voltage/current-wise. i suppose somebody with more electronics chops than i could look at some of the volatage ratings on components[caps, resistors] and make a decent guess and not blow it up, but that person is not me. Of the 3 of this particular box, a couple have hand-written labels on them that say 'clock bad' and that would seem to be a major function, but who knows..."
