Malekko Wiard Boogie Filter

via this auction
"The Malekko Wiard Boogie Filter is the offical licenced Version of the 1212A Wiard Module.
Just like the Borg the Boogie Filter also has an vactrol based cicuit. Here it works as a lowpass filter with a slope up to 24 dB.

Technical details:
What makes the Boogie so special is the possibility to output the audio signals on four outputs with different filter slopes: -6dB, -12dB, -18dB and -24dB.
The outputs are phase shifted to each other, which creates really interesting sounds when you mix the filter outputs (especially with a polarizing mixer) as you can achieve different kinds of filters like band- and high pass filters. In complement to the Borg the resonace is a bit smoother

If you´re looking for filters with an own character the Wiard/Malekko Modules are definitely a good choice.

Inputs and outputs:
2x Audio IN
2x Audio OUT
1x CV IN (key in = 1V/oct)
1x CV OUT

Measures and weight:
3U eurorack module / width 12 HP"

Malekko Wiard Noise Ring

via this auction

"The Noise Ring is a digital random voltage generator which can output quantised random voltages. Used at high clock rates it acts as a digital tone generator (similar to a noisy digital tone-wheel).
Additionally there´s a internal clock generator with output plus a analogue white noise source.

Technical details:
Based on a shift register, the Noise Ring processes its 8Bit information and reads them into its memory as a repetitive random sequence. Stepping thru the eight steps of this sequence is done by external or internal clock. The rate control sets the internal clock rate.
The Change potentiometer affects, if and how many new data are read into memory. the more new data the more the sequence changes.
The Chance control determines if the new data that are to be writtten into memory (derived from the noise source) rather contain "ones" or "zeroes". You can input external data, eg an oscillator (!) into the Chance Input

The random voltage outputs 1 and 2 have an amplitude of 0-10V and give quantized voltages. Either it quantizes to 1V steps (octave intervals) or 1/12V (semitone intervals).
The External Rate control randomizes the internal clock (one of the random outputs is pre-patched to the ExtRate jack), but oyu can inout other signals as well.
Clocks in audio rates make the NoiseRing play digital tones which can range also into digital noise. The Change control has a big effect on the sound character.

Inputs and outputs:
inputs: Chance CV in, Chance in, Change CV in, Clock in outputs: quantised outputs 1 & 2. Noise out, clock out

Measures and weight:
3U Eurorack module, width 14HP, depth (from back of faceplate) ~3.5cm"

Malekko Wiard Borg 1 Filter (White)

via this auction

Malekko Wiard Borg 2 Filter (Black)

via this auction
"The Borg Filter – A hybrid of Buchlas Lowpass Gate 292 und and the high-/lowpass filter of the Korg MS 20 (but without individual controls for resonance and cutoff) is a very interesting and aggressive filter which can be used as a VCA as well.
Did we already mention the Borg 2 is a true sub-bass monster and you can generate huge bassdrums with it?

Differences between Borg1 and Borg2:
The Borg 2 has black knobs.
It is the same as the original Wiard 1200 series FracRak module. It´s very aggressive, has a shorter decay time and sounds more brilliant.

Technical details:
The peaking control determines the resonance but also acts as a switch between filter or VCA. The resonance is strong and the filter self-oscillates very fast. A further control blends from low- over band- to highpass mode.
Because of the slow and inert Vacrols used in the circuit it is quite impossible to modulate the cutoff frequency with fast CV signals.

Inputs and outputs:
2x Audio IN
2x Audio OUT
2x CV IN (key in = 1V/oct)
1x CV OUT

Measures and weight:
3U Eurorack module, module width 12HP"

"This is a quick test of using the Buchla 259e and Verbos 258v for melodic purposes. They are driven by an Elektron MonoMachine via a Kenton Pro Solo MIDI-CV unit. Then the MonoMachine acts as gate and adds a little effects to the 259e (delay) and filtering to the 258v. But just a little. I think I got pretty decent results even with heavy modulation and when using the mem/skew wavetables."

Synthetic Sound Labs Tap Tempo LFO - Model 1260

More info on the Synthetic Soundlabs Tap Templo LFO previously posted here.

"The SSL 1260 Tap Tempo LFO is a special module indeed. You can set the LFO frequency by tapping the TAP button, supplying a periodic gate to the SYNC input, or by changing the Tempo CV. You can build tap tempo effects vibratos and tremelos, tap tempo controlled drum machines or tap tempo sequencer clocks. Or use it the other way around - control the 1260 tempo with a sequencer! You can even use multiple 1260s to create polyrhythmic LFOs using the built-in Multiplier ratios. Awesome possibilities!

The 1260 can produce 8 waveforms, including a random (sample & hold) wave.

All the waveforms except the random wave can be altered by the wave distortion CV.

t also includes a tempo multiplier. This is combined with the tapped tempo to allow the LFO frequency to be set at a multiple of the tapped rate. The available multipliers are 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 3, and 4. This allows half- and double-time, and triplet times.

The LFO tempo, multiplier, waveform selection, wave distortion, and output level are all voltage-controlled using 0 to +5V. Negative voltages are are permitted, but may sometimes cause unexpected results.

The LEVEL CV input responds linearly to 0 to +5V and is normalled to +5V so that with no input, the 1260 outputs are at maximum. This convenient input can frequently save a separate VCA when doing voltage controlled modulation depth.

The SYNC input can accept clock pulses from other equipment, which allows the 1260 to be syncronized to other devices. A CLOCK OUT which can be used to drive other equipment, allowing a tap-tempo controlled clock for an analog sequencer or drum machine, for example. A phase reset on the first tap to the tap tempo input allows you to keep the LFO on the beat with a single tap. All waveforms reset to the top of the waveform.

CAVEATS - In that the 1260 waveforms are produced digitally, it should be noted that some amount of anti-aliasing effects occur at fastest rates. Although normally imperceptable in the majority of cases, very small steps may be heard at extremely slow rates and wide control swings. Due to minor component variations, Multiplier and Waveform switching points may not precisely line up with panel graphics. These are normal.

In all, we think you'll find the 1260 Tap Tempo LFO to be the most fun you've ever had with a LFO!

"The iPad will become more and more a musical tool in the studio and beyond. Last year we saw some synths being recreated for the iPad by Korg for example. Just a few days ago we were sent a picture of another 'famous' synth being 'recreated' as an app. Is Novation taking the plunge in the app market with a V-Station (HD) app? "The title says enough but nevertheless some explenation. A weeg ago I bought a Doepfer Dark Time, Yes I am an owner of hardware sequencer. This vid shows my first attempt. It is not ment as a complete peace of music but just LOL. It started with a 16 note sequence (2 rows chained) and triggered the Moog LP. First one osc. and then two. Some knob tweeking between. The Moogerfooger CP251 is actually triggered by the second sequence row (the LPF freq.) with the CV2 out of the DT. The CV1 out is at the end used for the CV pitch in of the Moog LP. The CP251 out is connected with the filter CV in of the Moog LP. A Ibanez DM1000 is used as delay. This vid is just for fun and in the future I will created some seriuos music with the DT.

Site Issues on Safari

I've had a couple of reports of the site not fully loading for people, specifically with YouTube posts coming up blank. It seems to be happening when clicking on the Older Posts link on the bottom of the page. I am not seeing the issue on Firefox but I am on Safari. However, if I open the Older Posts link in a new tab, the posts come up fine. If you are seeing the problem try it, and of course feel free to comment. I am using the default embed code for YouTube. This is not happening on Firefox.

Update: Finally got a chance to look into this in more detail and I think I might have fixed the problem. There was some old script I implemented a while back so I could paginate super long posts. The code let you set the number of characters you wanted to display in a post and added a more link to see the rest of the post. Well, Blogger rolled out their own and the two collided. I removed the old script and things are now appear to be working in Safari. Hopefully this also takes care of some of the other problems people were seeing mentioned in the comments. Thanks goes to VICMOD for the tip that helped me identify the problem. He reported seeing odd bxAv110 links at the bottom of each post on the second page on. These links were generated by the old script.

Sequential Circuits Prelude - Analog String Synthesizer

YouTube Uploaded by SynthesizerDemos on Mar 30, 2011

"(If you want to get straight to the strings, go to 4:18)

Anyone who knows me knows that I love Poly Ensembles nearly as much as I love drum synthesizers.

This is the Sequential Circuits Prelude, which was an American reissue of the Siel Orchestra II from the dawn of the 80's.

it has lot's of groovy bells and whistles like a flanger and an equalizer in addition to the standard chorus/ensemble effect. It produces some very smooth strings and some juicy brass. In addition, it can do a few transistor organ-type sounds and the standard analog piano sound (which isn't very useful for anything other than covering "Your Kiss is on My List")."

Live Techno Series #6 [TR-909, MC-909, Virus TI2, MPC2500]

YouTube Uploaded by siedgey on Mar 30, 2011

"Thanks for checking this out!

I have just moved into a new recording studio in Glasgow and finally have a place to set up all of my equipment permanently and build the room of my dreams! In this video, I teamed up with Mr Copy and Vakama to have the first live jam in the studio - a techno monster running completely live on hardware - the computer was only used to record the session.

The setup is as follows: MC-909 is sequencing the Virus TI2 and providing MIDI clock to the Virus, MPC and TR-909. The bassline, the clicks and the pad in the breakdown is coming from the Virus (controlled by me and played using the Waldorf Blofeld keyboard via MIDI), the 909 sounds are coming live from the TR-909 through the MC-909 audio input (controlled by Vakama) and the MPC is playing the kick drum and some percussion, as well as the chopped dub vocal throughout the track (controlled by Mr Copy).

Let me know your thoughts on the session - we had a great time recording it, it only took 3 takes to get something that sounded really nice but I could've kept going all night... :]

In other news, here are a list of places I will be playing in the next couple of months. If a show is near you then come down and say hello! Or else if you would like to make a booking for a free date then please get in touch"
