Rare Digisound Modular Analogue Synthesiser

"Here we have an extremely rare and professionally built modular synth.
Made and developed in the UK near Blackpool 33 years ago.

VCO, VCF, and LFO's all seem to function as they should but not got
enough leads to check any further and the price reflects this.

Pitch tracks perfectly too.  Osc anf filter sound very thick too . All modules look professionally built.
What I can tell you is it is a 6 module self contained system with the following modules,
VCO (CEM 3340), VCF (CEM3320), Dual VCA (CEM3330, Dual EG (envelope 2 x CEM3310),
a Processor (used for glide etc), Quad LFO and a power supply.
There is a great resource of information on the internet here

http://www.digisound80.co.uk/digisound/

Described by Paul Nagle (a British composer of synth music and user of the Digisound synth) as
“Great, smashing, super - this is an amazingly versatile, superb-sounding modular - full of character”

THESE ARE VERY VERY RARE AND USES THE EXCELLENT SOUNDING CURTIS CHIPS.

Can easily integrate into vintage and modern modular synth setups using the 1V per octave standard.
Can be used via MIDI using a Kenton interface.

It will be well wrapped and i can ship worldwide."

PPG 1020 Synthesizer Playing Bach

The Analog Lab NYC-J.S. Bach | Two Part Inventions No. 8

Published on Jan 16, 2013 TheAnalogLab·37 videos

"An extremely rare PPG 1020 Synthesizer recently repaired by The Analog Lab in NYC. This little beast was released in 1976 and was very ahead of its time by having 2 DCOs! You would almost think its an 8-bit machine at times if you have the square waves set just right. It also has a Ring Modulator.

We thought Bach would be appropriate for a quick little demo. Enjoy!

Impellent 09.23.2012 (sound check) from Shawn Greenlee on Vimeo.

"Continued developments with realtime graphic synthesis techniques. Impellent is the latest of my "graphic waveshaping" programs realized with MaxMSP. Inputs to the system are two Bodelin digital microscopes, scanning works on paper. Changes in the sonic output are determined by the interpretation of the image data (pixel rows become non-linear transfer functions and effect parameters). Movements on a multitouch trackpad configure this interpretation. Development of Impellent is ongoing. The accompanying sound is played on the DR-OM iOS app (for which I am one of the developers) running through Grand Orbiter and Disaster Transport pedals from Earthquaker Devices."

Intellijel Korgasmatron II and Expander Coming Soon

via Intellijel

"David Dixon discovered some ways to derive even more fun and versatility out of the original circuit. The Korgasmatron II now features a completely independent six mode filter on each side! The modes are selected via a 6 position rotary switch. We have also added a special overdrive feature so that the output signal can be soft or hard clipped depending on how hard you drive it into the circuit. This is controlled via the input amp which starts clipping when you put the knob past 12 O’clock (assuming an standard 10Vpp input waveform). There are switches to select hard or soft clipping. This effect is subtle on simple waveform sources and dramatic on more complex sources (like chords).
The xfade circuit has also been redesigned to use the same circuit as found in the uFade module with independent cv attenuation.

Korgasmatron II:
-20HP and skiff friendly
-Dual Filter + Xfade
-Six filter types per filter:
1. LowPass 1-pole
2. LowPass 2-pole
3. BandPass 1-pole
4. HighPass 2-pole
5. HighPass 1-pole
6. Band Reject (notch) 1-pole (different than notch on original)
-Both filters track 1V/Oct over 3-4 Octaves (makes a great VCO)
- Switch to configure serial or parallel routing
- Output soft and hard clipping
- Resonance soft clipping control (Q Drive)
-all knobs bolted to panel
- Price $390
- Availability 1-2 weeks (currently being built)

Also being released is the Korgasmatron II Expander module which allows for CV control of the Q for each filter.
A very special feature of the Korgasmatron II design is that you can also have extra inputs to each filter that has its own selectable filter type independent of the main filter type. So for example I can have filter A on the main module set to LPF and then run a second signal into the same filter but in BPF mode. Both signals come out of the same output.
This is really useful for complex layering or more creative applications like special feedback patching between the two inputs and outputs to create weird and aggressive filter responses.

Just like the original Korgasmatron this filter can go from clean and precise to howling and agressive. From classic MS20 type sounds to totally new territory all depending on how you play with the front panel controls.

Korgasmatron II Expander
-6 HP skiff friendly (totally passive)
-VC of Q for filter A and filter B
-Auxiliary input for filter A and B with independent filter type selection
-Attaches to Korgasmatron II via single ribbon cable
-Price: $80
- Availability 1-2 weeks"

BitWiz test

Published on Jan 15, 2013 rrr00bb·143 videos

"BitWiz is a really simple environment for writing one-liner 8-bit synthesizers (it's not my app, written by Kymatica). I am demonstrating the kind of sound I was able to get out of it, using the harmonic series to stand-in for a scale so that I can play it a little with two fingers, and running a background behind it. This sort of patch creation interface could be useful for 16-bit OSC/MIDI synths driven by controllers; though 8-bit audio has some non-obvious advantages for this task."

Doepfer Döpfer Regelwerk CV Version

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via eBay Germany
"REGELWERK is a professional tool that is able to generate any MIDI data by means of 24 high quality ALPS faders with 48 related buttons and LEDs (2 buttons and 2 LEDs for each fader).

The fader box features include standard functions like assignment of any MIDI data type to the faders and buttons (e.g. any controller, aftertouch, note on/off, velocity, program change, SysEx) as well as functions like Solo, Mute, Master, Total Recall, Overdup, HookOn. For example you may program the unit as a real-time editor for any other MIDI equipment (including software synthesizers) by assigning the required MIDI events to the faders and buttons.

But REGELWERK is much more than a so-called "MIDI fader box" though it as well carries out what you would expect from such a unit. In addition REGELWERK is suitable - so to speak as a free gift - to generate pattern-based musical structures like rhythmic trigger patterns, analog sequences and other rhythmic structures. The immediate access to important controlling parameters leads to completely new rhythmic and sequencing applications especially for improvisations and live events. It is possible to combine the features of the fader box and the sequencer at the same time (8 faders with fader box features and 16 faders for generating a sequence)."

Cynthia (RSS)

"Brand New Buchla type QUAD LOW PASS GATE All-Analog Synthesizer Module in Synthesizers.com / Moog Format!

IN-STOCK! New Mark II Design

Standard Dotcom type Power Connector Included

Add an Organic Quality to Your Sound!
In the beginning there was Light, and the Vactrol opto-coupler was born. (Well, in the early 1960's anyway)!

In these days of quantum-level high-speed electronics it might be hard to imagine why we would actually want to use such sluggish CroMagnon components as the lowly Vactrol, (essentially a photocell and a light bulb)...

Harnessing these into an alchemy of music, fire, and light was the genius of Don Buchla who thought to exploit the quirks or so-called flaws of these components for their musical capabilities instead!

Nothing can match the buttery soft response this circuit evokes when commanded "to dance!" by an impatient pulse or envelope.

That unique flitty, percussive, Subotnick trademark type sound can be realized with these gems because they are based on the original Buchla 292 circuitry. There are four on this panel, each with a switch to determine if there will be additional Low Pass coloring to the signal as it passes.

Often a signal is best processed through two or more of the module's channels in series, and always a delight when used in concert with the Modcan 08A Processor's preamp and envelope follower on external inputs.

Below are four .wav file samples featuring the Cynthia/Buchla Lowpass Gate prototype, demonstrated by Peter Grenader using a single patch in which only the Gate's modes are changed. The attack time of the envelope is increased midway through each to give an idea of the full dynamic effect of this instrument.

"The Low Pass Gates are something that I had no idea what I was buying when I ordered them. Boy am I glad I did! That sound is fantastic, so organic - slippery, rubbery textures - very cool indeed!!"

It will be available as a kit, feature it’s own sounds, have a noise mode, and, like the Dam Drum 2, have pads for expandability.

"As for the Blues Exploder we are also expected to ship it early February, if not sooner. Apologies to everyone who’s been waiting!
Jon and I wanted to make sure that device was solid and had all the features he wanted before being released rather than just shipping out a half done noise-maker. We think the time spent on it has paid off.

As apology for the delay the band has personally signed each device."

E Theremin – Electro Theremin for iOS

"Free for a limited introductory period.

Vintage Electro–Theremin, Onassis Martino style synth.

This app captures the magic of early classic slider controlled synthesisers such as the Ondes-Martenot (1928) Trautonium (1929) and Tannerin/electro-theremin (1950s)

The E Theremin has three oscillators that generate a rich fat analogue tone, with a choice of 4 waveforms (saw, square, triangle and sine) octave shift and amp control. The E Theremin can achieve portamento, vibrato and quarter-tones with precise control. 4 presets allow you to store your sounds and jump quickly between them during performance.

– Ideal for professionals looking for an alternative to the keyboard controlled synth.
– Great for anyone interested in synthesizers, particularly early analogue.

In 1928 Maurice Martenot created one of the first electronic musical instruments, entitled; the Ondes-Martenot, the prerunner to the theremin, similar in sound but with a very different type of user interaction, an inspiring slider on a cord was used. Later in the 1950s Paul Tanner invented the Tannerin a.k.a. Electro Theremin. The Tannerin used the same slider controls as the Ondes-Martenot to control pitch. The Tannerin went on to play a large role in records such as The Beach Boys “Good Vibrations”.

Summarized Features
– Three oscillators (osc2 unison)
– 4 waveforms
– 3 octave slide control
– Fat analogue sound
– Jump between 4 user presets
– Classic slider pitch control
– Retina GUI

Grab it before it goes up to regular price!"

Matt Traum - "Thinking Of Michael"

Published on Jan 13, 2013 PatchmanMusic·8 videos

"On this the 6th anniversary of the passing of the great Michael Brecker, I thought I would play a little improvised tribute dedicated to my friend and Sax/EWI icon- Michael Brecker. This is a little thing I was playing while thinking of him and what he did with the amazing Steiner EWI electronic wind instrument. He touched a LOT of people with his music and he was a wonderful human being too.

I am playing what I call a "Hyper-EVI Steinerphone". It's the exact same model Steinerphone EWI Michael Brecker played for many years in the mid to late 1980s with Steps Ahead and on various studio sessions. This model was the first EWI that Brecker played and he took the instrument to amazing heights. This horn was hand made by the great wind controller inventor Nyle Steiner. It is an EWI (woodwind type controller)- but I have modified it internally so it fingers like an EVI (brass type controller). The horn plays incredibly well- it's the Stradivarius of wind controllers. It is hooked up to a companion synth system also designed by Steiner. In this system are two Crumar EVI synth modules and a Steiner "wood and glue" formant filter unit (which is not used in this video). Only one Crumar module is heard in this video fed into an intelligent harmony processor with reverb, chorus, and delay. Amplification is via two Yamaha MS60s speakers running is stereo.

A little trivia on this system you see in this video: This is the actual synth unit that Doug Norwine played on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson with Melissa Manchester when she performed "La Vie En Rose" (you should be able to watch it on youtube).

Voices can be copied to the 96 user patches, but editing requires an FB01 editor. There are 240 presets to choose from. Lots of electric pianos and organs, other keyboards, strings, brass, basses, some leads, a few percussion, some guitars, some SFX, etc.

Display is an orange LED, visible from pretty much any angle except below. 8 front panel buttons lead you through a list of functions that are summarised on top of the unit. The FB01 itself is 1/2 rack wide and was rack-mountable as a pair with an adapter Yamaha offered, a simple rack shelf would work."
