Darth Drumf Inauguration Performance Tryout

Too funny. Read:
"In light of published reports that the incoming administration is having difficulties nailing down appropriate marquee performers, I would like to offer up my services.
Patch notes.
Moog Mother-32 is driving the show. Circadian Rhythms is playing some Tip Top drums. One mix goes into the Intellijel Shapeshifter (thanks @mylarmelodies for the inspiration!) and then blended with the dry mix; all sent together through Cwejman MMF2.
Moog sequence goes to a Synthesis Tech Quad Temporal Shifter which shifts the sequence before sending it on to Macbeth Micromac, which plays more of the bass version of the sequence.
Lastly, the Mother line is fed into the Intellijel Rainmaker for some delay and varying comb-filter.
I think I would be a nice addition to the celebration."

"This is truly one of a kind synth! It has an array of added features that take it over the top in comparison to other vintage models on the market.
To start, this synth is in superb shape for its age. It shows hardly any signs of surface wear! The blue front panel looks fantastic, and the wooden sides and the back panel show little to no signs of wear. Cosmetically I would give it a 9/10.
Functionally, this synth is also in fantastic shape. It is in complete working order. The pots turn fluidly, and all of the surface buttons are in working condition.
Now, here is the good stuff! This synth has gone through a few extensive mods that really bring it to another level. The first mod done to this synth was increasing the depth of the bass tone in the low end, to replicate a tone more similar to an OB-XA. Normally, an OB-8 does not have a very present low end, so some people prefer the OB-XA. However, with this mod, you get the great low end, with the added features and reliability of the OB-8!
The second mod done to this synth is the deal maker- this synth includes a full aftertouch system with fatar semi-weighted keys! The normal keys of the OB-8 are not touch sensitive and need constant maintenance due to the poor key contacts. But this synth is extremely reliable! You can play fast passages and get full responsiveness from the key bed.
The aftertouch system is called the Pyxis System, installed by New England Analog Company. This is a very detailed system that routs the aftertouch to a small wooden module (as seen in the photos). You can route the aftertouch to a wide variety of parameters, including LFO, Cutoff, Bend, Tremelo, and more, and you can route these effects simultaneously. The aftertouch can be controlled by pressing the key bed with more force, but it can also be controlled by a second wooden touchpad. This touch pad can be put on the floor and operated by foot, leaving you with two hands free while still controlling the aftertouch! This type of system is extremely hard to find anywhere on the market- I believe that New England Analog no longer makes the Pyxis System. I can say from experience playing with this synth that it truly takes the playing experience to another level."

"Imagine a weekly jam session, you and 40 or 50 friends, open bar, taped all night on a tube-driven reel-to-reel, a great time for all, except you rarely get a drummer to these events. A good friend of mine was in this exact situation. Solution? Especially for an hours-long jam to a single tune? A solid, well-made, good-sounding drum machine, of course! Enter the Korg KR55, an early drum synth with exactly what my friend was looking for - 10 drum voices, 48 pre-set rhythms, 16 intro/fills, easy to hook up to a guitar amp, easy to operate. This is an analog design from the early 80's, and was a staple for years in studios during the period. Comes with original box and manual. When it was last tested about 2 years ago, everything worked perfectly, so the pots and switches may need to be cleaned. Best wishes!"

E-mu xl-7 (proteus 2000) acting wavetableish
Published on Jan 2, 2017 Mike Perkowitz
I thought this was pretty interesting as most PCM based synths do not allow you to modulate through oscillator waveshapes like on classic PPG & Waldorf wavetable synths. I reached out to Mike to find out exactly what was going on here. Here's what he had to say:
"It's crossfading through 8 different waveforms in succession. The e-mu doesn't let you modulate actual waveform selection, but you can assign 4 different waves to the 4 layers of a patch, and then set up a thing that lets you sweep through them, crossfading from one to the next (it's called realtime crossfade in the manual). in effect, it's a lot like one of the PPG wavetables where it interpolates from one wave to the next gradually. I have it set up so that one of the knobs is assigned to the crossfade position directly. I also have an LFO assigned to the crossfade position, with knob control over the rate and depth. I also have an AD envelope assigned to the crossfade, with knob control over attack, decay, and depth. Finally, I layered two of these patches, with the crossfades set up so that they cover the entire crossfade range with their combined 8 waves, and I chose some metallic, ppg-sounding waves for part of it. it took some meticulous programming, but now that I have a patch set up, it's fairly easy to try out different waves in the 8 positions and to play with different modulators."
I own a Morpheus myself and was curious if this was possible on it. I know, I know, I should know this owning one, and being mr. matrix and all, but I never got around to it. Mike, however, did know, and had the following to say:
"Aside from the filters, the Morpheus is a lot less sophisticated. You can't do this kind of stuff with a Morpheus -- it only has two layers per patch, and it doesn't have a whole lot in the way of interesting modulation, aside from the function generators. http://blog.perkowitz.net/2015/07/06/the-e-mu-morpheus-review-20-years-later/
The proteus-2000 synths are really, really deep, with a very good collection of waves for making synth sounds (especially if you get the XL-1 rom; I'm guessing the vintage rom is great too). The editing is not great, in various ways, and the very important edit knobs don't seem to hold up well, but it can do a lot if you put in the time."

"Circadian Rhythms plays BD808 and clocks Trigger Riot from track 1 to swing it and Z8000 (horizontal snake), which is clocked from Trigger Riot with high probability division of one and 100% probability division of three the same clock also triggers 2x Z4000s (filter and VCA) and the Quantizer. One Trigger Riot out resets the snake and one clocks horizontal ch.4 for transpositions. A couple of presets on Trigger Riot to store variations. At some point, I stop transpositions from the TR and manually change scales on the quantizer. I also manually change octaves with the slider.
The high hats sound is a white noise from maracas module aslo sequenced from the Trigger Riot"

Unka's "Todd Barton patch test for iVCS3"
Published on Aug 2, 2016 UnkaTom
"This is me testing out Todd Bartons patch he made a few days ago on a REAL VCS3 (suitcase) in my lowly iVCS3 iPad clone.
He provided a patch diagram but I think real VCOs trounce the tiny capabilities of iVCS3 ... mercilessly. I was quite careful about the settings but clearly the suitcase has a differing patch matrix (you can see it if you check his vid). [posted here]
Anyway, Todd was very generous to share the patch (a true educator) thus I wanted to see if the iVCS3 could come near it.... Bwaaaahahahahahaaaa oh well, it's still fun.
Unlocking synth mysteries is cool!"

Nylon String Guitar + Moog Ring Mod + Eventide H9 + Line 6 Echo Pro
Published on Jan 2, 2017 experimentalsynth
"Electric nylon string guitar played through a Moog MF-102 Ring Modulator, Eventide H9 and Line 6 Echo Pro. Used an Eventide MIXINGLINK as a guitar pre-amp and effects loop controller. Played over a sequence from a DSI Pro 2, with the H9 and Echo Pro synced to the Pro 2 sequencer clock. I mostly recorded this one so I wouldn't forget the riff and effects combination, but you may enjoy it too. Learn more at experimentalsynth.com"

"The CS-50 was released just ahead of its famous big brothers, the CS-60 and CS-80. The CS-50 looks like a scaled-down version of the monstrous CS-80, and it is! This will benefit those who crave the famous classic Yamaha synth sound without the struggle of lugging around the 215 pound CS-80! The CS-50 is 4-voice polyphonic, with a 49-note standard keyboard. It features pressure (aftertouch) sensitivity route-able to several destinations."

"Roland Jupiter-8 Vintage Analog Synthesizer. This 62-Key Synthesizer has been used. It has been tested and everything appears to be in good working condition. This keyboard is old so there is some cosmetic damage. For example: scuffs, scratches, and dings in the paint on the keyboard. Nothing that affects the way it works..."
