OSC3 sequenced by the matrix sequencer.
OSC 2's volume is controlled with the modwheel, which allows to morph between OSC1's sound alone, and OSC1+OSC2 together.

Percussions programmed on the Drumbrute.

"How to make a pluck sound patch from scratch on the Dave Smith Instruments Pro 2 synthesizer. I go over two versions of the plucked sound, one paraphonic and another monophonic. In paraphonic mode we can play chords but we are limited to only one oscillator per note. We compensate for that by utilizing the sub octave oscillator and some modulation and effects. In monophonic mode we have 4 oscillators to play with so we can be a little more creative with the sound. I utilize a noise oscillator to add a bit more punch to the attack phase."

Grind is currently available as a 32/64-bit VST and VST3, 64-bit AAX for Windows 8 or greater, and as a 32/64-bit AU/VST/VST3/AAX for OSX (10.8 or greater).

"A true powerhouse of audio warfare, Grind puts the 'damage' in Audio Damage. From subtle tube-style saturation to full-on mangled wavetable distortion, Grind is a Swiss Army Knife of sound design.

Grind consists of three main blocks: wavetable lookup, in to algorithmic saturation/distortion/, and finally to a multi-mode filter. The wavetable module uses the amplitude of the incoming signal to replace the sample with one from 15 different linearly-interpolated wavetables, chosen for their mangling potential. Window size and phase controls provide further tone-shaping possibilities.

The next stop is the algorithm module, with eleven different distortion and saturation algorithms, from simple soft-knee saturation on up to full on sine warping.

After this, the signal passes through a multi-mode filter stage, with eleven different filter models to choose from, including "vintage digital" versions from the early days of plugin development, on up to our modern analog-modeled MS20-style lowpass and highpass synth filters. A tempo-synced LFO provides motion for the filter frequency, and a final stage of soft clipping and DC filtering tames the output.

Make no mistake: this is not a subtle, polite tool. With careful tuning of the provided presets, it can be tamed to normal filtering and saturation duties, but on the whole, it is a noisy, snorting beast of a plug-in, and is happiest with Full Metal audio destruction."

"Alter is an effects processor for eurorack format. There are two versions which are visually identical except the name "Alter 1" and "Alter 2". This is Alter 1. Internally each has an entirely different set of effects from the other. Each features 7 different DSP effects meticulously designed over the course of a year by Arius Blaze with digital programming, additional design and input by Nico Raftis of Macro Machines.

These design will also be available in pedal format and three Alters with slightly different design and mic amplification will be built into the new garden. The pedals and the garden will be here on display and ready for preorder in June.

Note that these are currently available for preorder at a discounted price until sometime in July. The normal price will be $279, currently offered for $239. These will be shipping at the start of August if not sooner."

In our chat, Tom talks about how he got started in both electronics and music, and how he stumbled upon musical electronics. We also talk about how the SEM has been able to endure despite all the changes in backing technology, and how it differs from most of the synths that were its contemporaries. It's also interesting to hear about how the resurgence of analog culture and the emergence of DJ/producer culture caught him by (pleasant) surprise, and have set the stage for his future work.

Lifeforms Dynamic Impulse Filter: Processing Percussion (LMS: Eurorack Expansion Preview)

"The Pittsburgh Modular Lifeforms Dynamic Impulse Filter (DIF for short) is a very nice update on the classic “West Coast” low pass gate. It combines a VCA and a Sallen-Key resonate two-pole filter with an update on the classic vactrol circuit that allows you to dial just the amount of natural percussive decay you want.

In this video (the 4th of 4 on the DIF in my upcoming “Eurorack Expansion” course), I demonstrate using the DIF to further modify the sound of a percussion module such as the Noise Engineering Basimilus Iteritas to create a powerful, punchy, easy to control hybrid percussion sound.

"Some general patch notes:

Maths:
Channel one is in cycle mode, and slowly modulating Clouds' position parameter.
Channel two is triggered via Branches, and produces a short envelope for Ripples' VCA.

STO:
Provides some audio rate FM for Ripples.

uScale:
Quantizes the note sequence from Brain Seed and sends it to Ripples and Rings, with the former being shifted (within the same scale) by a stepped triangle LFO from Peaks.

Brain Seed:
Provides the note sequence. Every step also outputs a trigger to Branches.

Branches:
Randomly skips or passes on triggers from Brain Seed to Maths' channel two.

Noise Tools:
Provides a master clock for Brain Seed. Additionally, the S&H signal is sent to Brain Seed's freeze input, which holds the note sequence whenever the signal is high.
Pink noise is sent to Rings' audio input.

Ripples:
Functions as a 2 operator FM sound source with STO as the modulator (this makes the high pitched bell sounds)

Rings:
Is in FM mode, as the primary sound source.

Peaks:
Provides LFO modulation. A stepped triangle wave going to uScale's shift input, and some sort of folded sine wave going to Rings' position parameter.

Quadratt:
Attenuates the LFO going from Peaks to uScale.
Mixes the sound sources (Rings and Ripples), and sends the mix to Clouds' input.

Clouds:
Makes nice droney, shimmery, choppy sounds.

Finally, some delay/reverb from the Strymon Big Sky.

"Beautiful E-MU Emulator II in amazing cosmetic and operational condition. This EII powers up, loads disks, plays, samples, and saves. Unlike some of the others this one is not a science or electronic experiment or project. Also has a custom fitted EII dust cover with Emulator II logo. On the CD-R(will be USB stick actually) you have the sought after Depeche Mode voices in HxC format if you decide to upgrade this unit with an HxC drive. Also includes an SD card with 1400 additional voices in HxC/Sound Designer format. Any of these files can be converted in EMXP which is free online. Please be familiar with these tools and vintage samplers if you are buying this unit. Sold as-is. The silk screening on the back is even cherry which is shows you how babied this unit was. No yellow or broken keys and this unit is super solid."
