"Jonte Knif is a genius designer of top-top-top-notch audio equipment. He makes some of the best mastering gear in the world, notably the unparalleled Soma equalizer. A few years ago he decided to put his mastery of electrical engineering and tube topology to the test by building an all-tube analog synthesizer, the Knifonium. The first batch of 6 saw two bought by Hans Zimmer (they are used subtly in the Interstellar soundtrack, and less subtly as a guest synth in the Blade Runner soundtrack). The second batch of 6 brought improvements to the routing and performance-based usability. This is from the second batch, and is currently one of 12 in the world - and the only one in this colour! (all the others are reddish wood, as opposed to this dark stain).

Simply put, this is the biggest sounding raw-sound I've ever heard from an instrument. The all-tube build allows you to overdrive various tube types at various points in the signal chain, layering nonlinearities into complex tones that react to your performance. And it's not just the core sound: there's a ton of performance tools, such as a buttery-smooth XY joystick that's assignable to tons of parameters, velocity sensitivity, aftertouch (also assignable to various things), a very shapeable LFO, and a second full assignable envelope besides the standard VCA. It's honestly absurd. The best instrument I've ever played.

This is a unique, rare piece that will add real tonal power and texture to your work. Take advantage of my momentary lapse in judgement and need for funds and grab this. Jonte will be building more, but the wait time is very long.

As implied by name, SQ4 Sequence Processor permits users to create unique sequenced modulation patterns — four sequences with up to 128 steps per sequence, so not so much one small step for man, but rather one giant leap for music-kind when it comes to the creation of advanced sequences to modulate and synchronise audio hardware and software parameters from within a DAW host application!
As such, the basic setup for most host applications is similarly straightforward, with only two tracks usually required. Owners of software-only setups need not feel left out of the picture, for SQ4 Sequence Processor can capably modulate soft synths and audio plug-ins within the host DAW to provide extended modulation possibilities.

Whatever way whatever user chooses to work, SQ4 Sequence Processor places a raft of fanciful features at their ever-more- expressive fingertips, including variable synchronisation options, which can be set from free running to hard sync. Note events can re- trigger a sequence and several running directions can be selected. SWING, SLEW (limiting), PHASE (offset), and GAIN controls can be adjusted to accommodate modulations for the target device.

"Live performance of an in-game song from the NES (Nintendo Education System 8-bit) game "The Immortal", using two Pocket Operators PO-28 & PO-32 from Teenage Engineering.

Quickly jammed in one take so figured it would match the #jamuary2018 flow of videos :)

The game music was originally composed by Douglas Fulton for the Apple IIGS, but a number of ports were made and C64-hero Rob Hubbard arranged some of them for NES (which my version is based on).

The PO-32 takes care of the bass line and some percussion (all sounds were created in Microtonic and then transferred to the PO). The PO-28 handles live playing and background melody."

CV Flexibility on the Arturia Matrixbrute - Notes from Bakis Siros of Parallel Worlds

The following is via Bakis Sirros of Parallel Worlds. I thought it gave a good idea of how powerful the modulation matrix on the Matrixbrute can be with it's multiple CV ins and outs.

"Just a few things i found out regarding the cv ins and outs of the Matrixbrute, (it may be useful for Matrixbrute owners) :

FYI, regarding the Matrixbrute: the 12 cv inputs on the back of the matrixbrute control the two filters cutoffs, the VCO1 and 2 pitch, VCO1 and 2 ultrasaw, VCO1 and 2 PW, and VCO1 and 2 metalizer, the LFO1 AMOUNT and VCA cv inputs. the 12 CV Outputs though, output the cv sources of the matrixbrute. in detail: if you assign the LFO1 to the VCO2 pitch, then the VCO2 pitch CV OUTPUT outputs the LFO1 voltage in the range of 0 - 10volts. if you assign the LFO1 to the VCO PW, then the VCO PW CV OUTPUT outputs the LFO1 voltage but in the range of +5 to -5volts. quite deep (and weird?) .... so the 12 CV OUTPUTS (in the back of the matrixbrute) output the ADSR1,2,3 cv outputs, the LFO1,2,3, cv outputs, the ENV follower cv output, the Modwheel cv output, the Seq cv output, Aftertouch cv output, Velocity cv output, Seq mod cv output, and the M1, M2, M3, M4 knob cv outputs. now the fantastic stuff: since this is a matrix of 256 buttons, you can assign all the 16 cv sources to control the VCO1 pitch, for example. so, you add 16 cv sources (without needing any cv mixer as you would normally need in the modular) and this result goes to the VCO1 Pitch destination and/or the VCO Pitch cv output on the back of the Matrixbrute... also, you can assign one cv source (for example ENV2) to modulate 16 different destinations in the matrixbrute (and 12 cv inputs in your modular) without needing a multiple at all! insane complexity and flexibility. and let's not forget that in each and every one patchmatrix connection, you have a bipolar attenuator, so you can also invert the 16 cv sources of the matrixbrute. so, in two words, the matrix of 256 buttons gives fantastic capabilities that sometimes you cannot (or its difficult to) achieve even in the modular environment also!

"This original keyboard-free Synthacon is fully functional, recently serviced, and in very good condition. Service includes being full recapped, all pots and switches cleaned, and tuned & scaled. It has a rebuilt power cable and includes a Cinch Jones to 1/4" female jack for S-Trig in.

The Synthacon is rare and exceptional sounding 3 oscillator mono synth from the late 70's. It features switch based modulation routing with CV & Gate from the top. The signature Steiner Parker VCF offers rich filtering with powerful resonance and the 3 VCOs provide for stable robust sound source.

The modulation section consists of the Dual Envelope Generator, Trigger Generator, and Sample & Hold section. The Trigger generator is a square wave LFO capable of cycling the Envelope Generator. The Sample & Hold is fed by VCO 3 which allows you to route Noise as well as any of the waveforms for processing and can be triggered from either the Trigger Generator or the S-Trig input. Also any of the VCOs can used in the LFO range.

VC IN 1 is routed throught the S&H section, VC IN 2 is the standard 1v/Oct input, VCF IN is the CV input for filter cutoff, SIG IN routes external signals through the filter, and the Trig in is routed from the Cinch Jones port."

New μBraids SE Eurorack voltage-controlled digital oscillator/sound source in 8HP by Tall Dog Electronics

We have a new maker and a new module to the site. Tall Dog Electronics and the µBraids SE.

"µBraids SE is a voltage-controlled digital oscillator/sound source in 8HP with a wide range of creative and useful sound generation algorithms (aka models).

This redesigned µBraids SE (Special Edition) is a new revision of µBraids that updates and simplifies the component layout and has a new panel design. It utilizes a custom miniature segmented LED module, eliminating the need for a 2nd microprocessor and its supporting circuitry. µBraids SE remains fully compatible with future upstream Braids firmware upgrades and any other alternate firmwares that are compliant with the standard Braids design.


This module is available from: Control / Analoguehaven / Perfect Circuit / Synthcube with more to come.

Included Parts
µBraids SE includes a standard 16-pin to 10-pin Eurorack power cable and two sets of mounting screws for racks/enclosures with either M2.5 or M3 threads.

History
The original Braids was designed by Olivier Gillet of Mutable Instruments under a CC BY-SA 3.0 license. Braids is a macro-oscillator with multiple intricate digital synthesis algorithms. Each algorithm is controlled by two continuously variable parameters, both of which are voltage controllable. It is available as a 16HP Eurorack module. (Source)

Blue Lantern LFO modulating Braids Timbre slowly.
VCDLFO Sine -- MI Shades -- Ripples Freq modulation. VCDLFO CV is narrowed quite a bit by Shades, so the LFO modulation range is smaller and more subtle.
