This one was sent in via John L Rice, who did not send it in for the "anomaly" for the record. I caught it while watching. I was actually wondering when this might happen in the modular world after putting up this post. I remember one of my readers a while back stating that most DJ's just hit play on their laptops and move around like they are doing something when in actuality they are not. It's great when you see real gear being played live. Regarding the above, it's just a video. I'm sure he knows his gear. John mentioned it is possible he has stuff normalized behind the panels...

KORG Volca FM Editor Template for Lemur

This one in via -midisexual. As the Volca FM loads Yamaha DX7 sysex for it's patches, this editor should work as a realtime controller for synths that support the DX7 sysex format including the Yamaha TX7 and DX200.  Hopefully Korg will open the Volca FM to realtime editing as well.

Beautiful, warm and rich Oberheim synth (e.g., OB-X and OB-Xa) string and brass patches are faithfully created. It is amazing how the Yamaha DX7 sounds are so close to sounds from Oberheim synths. Also, it can mimic filter sweeping, creating analogue-like, yet uniquely DX7 sounds.

2:35 – Rush, Subdivisions
Rush (my favourite band) used an Oberheim synthesizer for the powerful song Subdivisions (you can see that at the intro of the music video Subdivisions).
The DX7 faithfully emulates a warm Oberheim synth brass sound with rich mid-range harmonics you hear in the song Subdivisions.

4:06 - U.K., Alaska
This DX7 analog patch is uniquely DX7 with its’ FM synthesis engine. It ‘s a very powerful DX7 synth brass sound with ‘ear-piecing’ mid-range harmonics as well as it’s own flanging effect.

6:35 – Berlin, Masquerade
Berlin has a song called Masquerade and you can hear a very nice synth string sound. This DX7 analog patch emulates the synth string sound very nicely, as it is rich in higher harmonics and highly modulated."

+stereo jack, 13 pin cable, led, button, tools...

The sound is wet: recorded directly from the pedal board into the audio interface. In real situation I use two amps (a Vox AC30 and a home made amp) for a perfect stereo effect. My aim was to have 3 different but complementary sounds and a huge stereo sound.

"Up for sale is a vintage and super rare Roland SH 1 analog synth. Forged from the innards of the Roland System 700 this is one amazing bass machine. Absolutely destroys all over the much coveted SH101 any day of the week. It's aided in this by its secondary envelope which the 101 lacks and a completely discrete design. The oscillators, filters (there's a high pass in addition to the low pass), super snappy envelopes, and voltage controlled amp are the same circuits inside a System 700. Everything is in beautiful condition and has only seen studio use. Everything works exactly as it should and sounds absolutely amazing."

Interesting when you think of it as a pre-configured System 700 keyboard synthesizer.

Circuitbenders Introduces DIY Trigger Interface Boards for BENTLEY RHYTHM ACE FR8L / ROLAND TR77

"The Bentley Rhythm Ace FR8L and the Roland TR77 are more or less the same machine. The only differences being that that the PCB's are in different positions, the FR8L doesn't have the tambourine sound found on the TR77 (although the empty spaces for the components are on the board and it can be installed), and the TR77 has a fade out feature along with 3 extra preset patterns.

Internally the sounds are triggered using -12v spikes, instead of the standard +5v pulses used on later machines. This interface board is designed to convert standard +5v trigger pulses supplied from an external source such as a midi to trigger converter, modular synth, drum machine or analogue sequencer, into the correct triggers to drive the FR8L / TR77 voices.

The board has 12 identical trigger conversion channels, plus a trigger input with a pair of outputs to drive the Guiro sound and its associated pitch bend triggering. Whoever designed these machines went to a hell of a lot of effort to trigger the Guiro sound, and then only used it on a couple of the preset patterns!.."

A bit of techno/acid on some battery powered devices, the OP-1, PO-12, Volca Sample & TT-303.

I made a backing track on the OP-1 as a guide to trigger pattern changes and also to allow some changes to auto happen. The low bass, pads and some extra percussion is being played on the backing, the PO-12 is on main drum duties (kick etc), Volca is extra percussion & the Bass Bot is doing the acid. I wanted the jam to be good enough for my weekly beats entry this week so the whole lot is mixed down in Cubase.

"A couple of days ago I posted a shot of the modular with some new stuff in it but not quite patched up. So, here is what it looks like patched. And there's a little video. All sounds are coming from the modular simultaneously. It is generating the percussion parts and sequencers and also providing the lead line that I'm playing and the delay spicing up the lead line. So this is recorded live, one pass. There is no post-processing.

It's a bit of a list of modules 'though, with a master clock, 3 sequencers, a sequential switch, a quantizer, an attenuverter, two percussion modules, a delay, 5 LFOs, 10 VCOs, 5 mixers (actually 6, there's an output mixer), 4 filters, 6 envelope generators and 5 VCAs."

Here's one never featured on the site before. A Waldek Sound Synthesizer. If it is indeed from the 1970s, I'm curious about it's history and why it never came up before. The following is the description from the listing. If you know more, feel free to leave a comment or shoot me an email. Note the listing has it as Waldek, but you can see it is Waldeck on the bottom right.

"Talk about weird gear! Are you brave enough for the WALDEK modular synthesizer? I’m working on a demo for you guys but obviously with nothing to go except what you see, this will take an evening or two. Unit is labeled as a "Waldek Sound Synthesizer". There is no manufacturing date or city/country of origin (I believe it to be US Made). The Instructional manual and connecting cables are missing, although they appear to be RCA style. It has 3 separate channels of Oscillation. And has controls for, Ring, Noise, Pre-amp, Envelope, Bandpass & Lowpass Filters, Pan and Reverb. The unit powers up as indicated by the pilot light. Beyond that there is no certainty of operation and the buyer is buying this with this full knowledge. The unit is hand signed on the back,"Weldek- Z. Waldek ATW Technology". My research has failed to identify this company or individual through an online search engine. Although, other individuals who own the same unit, seem to date it late 60s early 70s but have no further information beyond that. This unit may be a genuine relic as an example of early synth history, or it may be adapted to experimental uses in unconventional instruments other than Keyboards. Either way the mystery and intrigue is worth the price of admission."

This one in via Bradley. I believe this is the first time I've seen images of one in the flesh. There is a scan of the advert for one below pulled from Scott From Canada's synth scans. There was one previous mention of the EP-6060 on the site in this massive synth selloff, but no images.

"This sticking point in this new age with the 303’s was attempting to slave or incorporate into your modern set up without the DIN function....in step the reputable QUICKSILVER CPU!!!

USB connection to slave with your chosen DAW giving you the full sync and editing ability from your PC or MAC whilst retaining full hands on control.

As usual has some minor mark on the casing as seen on the pictures but the face is clean with no pot fading, and printed letters clearly visible and legible.

The Quicksilver 303 is a replacement CPU for the TB-303 Bass Synthesizer. With a completely rewritten operating system, all of the creative obstacles to programming amazing sequences have been removed. The experience still remains uniquely “303”.

The Quicksilver 303 CPU can be used with or without MIDI. So, you can still benefit from the new features of the CPU without drilling any holes in your TB-303!
Of course, there are also great new MIDI capabilities. MIDI control over filter cutoff, “MIDI Control mode” which allows the 303 to be “remotely controlled” from any device that can send MIDI note messages. The sequencer can send and receive MIDI notes and MIDI clock and you can also record incoming MIDI to patterns in realtime.

All functions of the Quicksilver 303 are available while the sequencer is running, this includes programming patterns, changing modes and new live performance functions like “ALL ACCENT” “CHOP” and “BUMP”.
Entering new patterns is now interactive, with the capability to hear changes as the pattern plays, and the ability to move forwards and backwards to edit specific notes.

The Quicksilver 303 is equipped with USB connectivity for OS upgrades and USB MIDI. Allowing the Quicksilver 303 to be directly connected to a USB host!
Because all data is stored into internal EEPROM, batteries are no longer required to maintain memory. All internal memory can also be dumped using MIDI sysex messages for sharing or backup."

"vintage Roland System 104 sequencer, part of the famous System 100 synthesizer. The sequencer is working except the 'continue' button which is not working. Two sockets of the 'parallel outputs' are been modified to very small ones. We didn't had the opportunity to test this sockets. Because of this technical issues we sell the unit as-is, for spares or parts only. It needs service, but keep in mind that the other functions are working fine."

"vintage Oberheim DX drum machine with factory MIDI installed. The unit is just been serviced and in perfect working condition now! The snare, hi-hat, tom and shake are stock DX sounds. The other sounds are: new kik, long ride 3, and crash 1F. Optical it's in used condition with a few scratches on it and some wear and tear on the housing (see photo's). It's an original 190 - 260V version."

A sounddesign experiment.
Unrivaled vintage fatness, as you can hear,
one could call it a quest for obesity.

Featuring the Dual-VCO analog polysynth "Prophet-600"
built by Sequential Circuits in the 1980's.

The unit I own contains the Gligli CPU/firmware upgrade.
That greatly enhances the sound and usability of this synth.

The DAW host "Ableton Live" was used to forward arpeggios to the P-600, capture the synth's output and also embellish those audio data with DAW FX and third-party plugins.

"A short demo of the original ARP Odyssey. This one was built in 1973 and it´s the first Odyssey. The White Face, also Model 2800, has a different filter type than the later Odysseys. This is a 12 dB/octave type with resonance and it sounds very smooth.

Sorry, I do not play any melodies or maybe hits. This demo shows the rough sound of the original ARP Odyssey MK 1 with different settings."
