four bricks rook first test

Published on Mar 27, 2014 MrBDust·4 videos

"Here s the first test of a new eurorack module prototype i just designed, the four bricks rook running along with another module of mine, a dual CV gate recorder, the Bishop Miscellany

It s a four channel trig sequencer, trig sequences can be recorded by playing buttons or by loading patterns in tables. There s eight tables, table number is defined by a pot.

Pattern length can be adjusted (1,2,3,4,6,8,12,16,24,32 steps) by turning the length potentiometer. If your pattern is eigth step long, you are dividing the total sequence by 4, so you got four eigth steps long patterns. The eigth step long pattern you re playing is defined by the Shift Potentiometer and the Shift CV input.

In playing mode, buttons can be used as track mute.

Finally, there s two sequences, A and B which can be accessed by the AB switch.

There s still some bugs to fix and some ideas to improve, a demo video with the final prototype will follow."

1967 R.A. Moog Modular # 1019 For Sale

For sale here.
Update: also on MATRIXSYNTH CLASSIFIEDS

Description and images captured with permission for the archives:

For Sale: Visibly stunning and working 1967 R.A. Moog Modular III-P in original portable hardwood plywood cabinets, formerly owned by The Monkees, power module 910 serial 1019. The only wood III-P ever produced. Serials start at 1002 and are dated Sept 15 1967. Paul Beaver’s sticker appears on a 911A (Serial 1009) dated Nov 20 1967 and a 901A (Serial 1009) is stamped Sept 21 1967. Rumored to have been played by John Lennon 'for hours to make flying saucer sounds'. Also owned by Bobby Sherman. Appears to be all original, including keyboard, which also works. Includes many original patch cables, five out of six wood covers as well. Powers up and plays. All oscillators output sound. There are some issues with some modules including scratchy pots and or intermittent audio. To the best of our knowledge it's lived in sunny and most importantly- dry California all of it's 47 years. No mold, no mildew, no visible issues less some oxidization on three hexnuts, a couple of very small, minor rubs on 904 and a few strange markings on a few modules in the corners, sort of a sine wave with a slash through it. Cigarette burn on top right corner of the wood keyboard case. Very early mixer(s) & possible prototype I/O module(s) and keyboard interface, all at the bottom of each case with no serials or model numbers. Notice large toggle switches and black & white labeling.

Please Note: We are accepting bids for this highly collectible musical instrument. We welcome pre-qualified buyers to inspect and demo in person. We'd prefer not to ship it. International buyers welcome and please arrange for qualified agents to inspect and ship. Located in Sacramento, Ca."

Will Gregory Moog Ensemble Coming to Brighton

"As one half of the electronic music sensation Goldfrapp, the keyboard-player and composer Will Gregory is one of the UK's leading advocates of using synthesizers and electronic instruments to create new sounds and reinvent old ones. Now he has formed a unique ensemble around eight Moog synthesizers, the technology that elevates music into an exhilarating wave of complex sound. Operatic one moment and computer-game technical the next, Gregory spins the Moog vocabulary of squelches and plops into a hypnotic and relentless sonic sensation to create fresh, intoxicating soundscapes. This concert features Gregory's live score to Rick Holbrook's poignant film The Service of Tim Henman."

The Hamlet 2000 Skulldrone

via Ivory Bunker where you'll find additional details, videos and schematics. via Tomoroh Hidari on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge

"Basically the Hamlet 2000 is a little Lunetta box, similar in spirit to the nand synth I built a while ago or my little blue lunchetta box which is based on the Heterodyne Space Explorer.

Housed in a novelty plastic skull (the size of a shrunken head), the Hamlet 2000 has two Audio- and two Control-Oscillators (LFOs, if you wish). The control oscillators each drive an LED which is coupled to an LDR to form a simple vactrol. These vactrols, in combination with a 100k Pot, each, set the frequencies of the audio oscillators and, unless the control oscs run at “full speed”, rhythmically switch the audio oscillators on and off.

For some additional visual effects the LEDs are “mirrored” by a pair of additional LEDs placed in the eye sockets of the Skull. The signal is summed via fixed transistors (an “on board” trimmer can be used to set the level)."

Mosaik Auto-BPM-Synced / Time-Warped Looper for iOS Released

Mosaik first mentioned in this post (click through for some nice screenshots) is now available.

iTunes: Mosaik - iOS - endeavour

"+++ Special introductory price - $0.99 / €0,89 - remains in place until the next major update will hit the App Store! +++

What is Mosaik?

You can import samples into Mosaik using AudioPaste, iTunes file sharing or the devices iPod library. To extract beat information out of the imported audio and to align it onto a global pattern, the App is using a beat detection algorithm which starts right after you have imported a sample or song. With this been done, you can warp through your audio, change its playing speed and set loops.

The time-stretching algorithm and how it works is the special feature in here. Instead of using an existing library we took a different approach. Our engine is taking care of beats. This means that Mosaik is trying to preserve the attack and decay phases of your audio. We call that "BSOLA" which means: "Beat Synchronous Overlap Add".

Current Project Status

When developing an audio application, starting from scratch is hard work. And in the case of Mosaik, it has been a lot harder than we thought. Therefor we have currently no other option than to release Mosaik in it's very early stage of development but at the lowest possible price tag - **$0.99 / €0,89**

Since the development still continues and since new features like user definable warp-markers or multiple tracks are about to be released in the next update, this is an opportunity to get Mosaik at one eighth of the price it will be sold for when the next update hits the store.

This major update will definitely include the following things:

1. Audiobus support with input/output.

2. Real-Time audio recording.

3. Note Onset-Detections

4. User definable and moveable warp-markers. This will add elastic audio features to Mosaik.

5. Multiple Tracks of up to 16 playing simultaneous, arranged in a grid of multiple sample cells.

6. Improved audio quality."

Dark Corridors - Modular Patch

Dark Corridors - Modular Patch from Richard Devine on Vimeo.

"This patch was built entirely around the Delptronics Trigger Man which is a unique trigger/gate sequencer module with a 8HP format. The idea was to take 8 different patterns consisting of 8 steps for each of the 8 outputs. Then run the trigger man in pattern play mode using the VC input to determine the currently playing pattern. The 8 patterns where programmed to flow into each other in sort of a quasi random string. Output one was sent to the Tiptop BD-808 kick drum. Channel 2 was sent to the Snazzy FX Ardcore triggering one custom snare sound created with a NordLead 2X, these sounds where imported into the "fac drums" Arduino sketch. This output was then ran into the Synthrotex Eko to provide flowing delay slap back effect to the snare sound. Channel three output was sent to the first channel of the 4ms QCD, running at the 6th knob position in divide mode, then sent to the trigger input on the Mutable Instruments Braids VCO running in "CLKN" mode using the "PIK" envelope setting to create a very short synthetic hi-hat sound. Channel 4 was sent to the external clock input on the MakeNoise WoggleBug which then triggered out the stepped random sequence into the 1volt into the intellijel shapeshifter, and also splitting the signal using stackable cable to the Macro Machines "Storage Strip" module that was controlling the program step modes to the Mungo d0 delay module. Input to the Mungo d0 was from the "DAC" output 2 from the Ardcore. Channel 5 was ran into the "Sync" input on channel one of the Modcan Dual delay. Another stackable cable going from channel 5 went into the 4ms SCM clock input. The drones are created using two sine outputs from the MakeNoise DPO. Sine output one is running into one MakeNoise Optomix with a slow rate LFO (intellijel Dixie) controlling the damping/contrl settings. This output is then sent into the Tiptop Z-DSP running the new Halls of Valhalla cartridge. The Reverb algorithm used in this patch is "Ginnungagap" for the atmospheric drones of the modulated FM sine waves. The second output from DPO is running into another Optomix with the another intellijel Dixie controlling the damping and CV-control settings, but with slower rate times. The output from this was then sent to the Strymon "Big Sky" reverb pedal running in "Chorale" mode for the vocal like resonant drones. Other sound sources used are the Intellijel Shapeshiter for the high end DSP-FM scatters, which is being triggered by the inverse out on the 4ms QCD expander. Next is the Modcan CV-Recorder playing back recorded noisy computer glitches being controlled by the Modcan Quad LFO which is being clocked by the channel one output on Trigger Man. The murky watery sounds came from the second Mutable instruments Braids oscillator running in "Cloud" mode into the channel input 1 of the Modcan Dual delay with lightly filtered position. The last sound source is the Qu-Bit Electronix Nebulae playing back a single shot 40 second sample in loop mode of sounds I created in a Reaktor patch. All signals routed into the Intellijel Mutamix and Steady State Fate- Mixmode. With 4 additional output being mixed into an Allen & Heath mixer. :-)"

"Build a real MS-20 with your own hands
Creating an instrument your own hands is the part of the true enjoyment of an analog synthesizer. The MS-20 Kit lets you obtain a real, full-sized MS-20 by assembling it yourself. It goes without saying that, just like the MS-20 mini released in January 2013, the engineers who developed the original MS-20 have overseen this project - ensuring that its historic sound is reproduced with complete fidelity. In addition, the MS-20 Kit provides the filters from both the early and late versions of this classic instrument and it even allows you to switch between them. Today, 36 years after this historic instrument was first unveiled in 1978, the MS-20 returns to its true origin.

A full-size MS-20 that you can assemble yourself
The MS-20 Kit is a kit that lets you obtain a real MS-20 by assembling the parts according to the directions in the owner's manual. Most of the steps are simply a matter of tightening screws or fitting parts together, so you don't need to know about soldering or electronic circuitry. Beyond any doubt, the analog sound generated by the MS-20 that you yourself completed will sound more valuable than that of any other synthesizer.

Unlike the MS-20 mini, the MS-20 Kit is a full-size unit with a standard-sized keyboard, and the plugs are also full sized 1/4" phone plugs.

Two types of filter are provided: both the early and later versions
The original MS-20 used different VCF circuits depending on the date of production. Units produced in the earlier period used a filter noted for its distinctive distortion and self-oscillation, while the filter used in later units was a low-noise design with a more mellow character. Amazingly, this new MS-20 Kit provides both filters. You can switch between the two by moving a jumper pin on the circuit board according to your taste or needs

Overseen by the engineers of the original MS-20; a complete replication of the original analog circuitry
Just like the MS-20 mini, development of the MS-20 Kit was led by the original engineers themselves, who spared no effort to perfectly replicate the circuitry of the original unit. When it was necessary to substitute a part, the engineers made the decision based on their own ears, ensuring that the exact sound of the original unit has been reproduced. In fact, the sound of the MS-20 kit has a somewhat bright and extreme quality to it because its sound is that of an original MS-20 in mint condition at the time it went on sale, before any of the components aged.

2VCO / 2VCF / 2VCA / 2EG / 1LFO structure
The MS-20 kit reproduces the distinctive synthesis of the MS-20; two oscillators with ring modulation, and envelope generators with hold and delay.

External signal processor (ESP) for processing an external signal
The ESP carries on the experimental spirit of MS-20; it allows you to use the pitch or volume of an external audio source to control the synthesizer. For example, you can input an electric guitar and use the MS-20 kit as a guitar synthesizer, or input a mic and use it as a vocal synthesizer.

Extremely flexible patching system
The patching system provided to the right of the panel lets you create complex sounds by plugging-in cables to change the connections between the various units. The possibilities are limited only by the user's imagination; different combinations of the modulation input/output and trigger, sample and hold, and noise generator can produce an incredible variety of sounds. By patching according to the MS-20 flow chart that’s printed on the panel, even the beginner can start taking advantage of these possibilities right away.
