Gamechanger | Audio launches crowdfunding campaign for electro-mechanical MOTOR Synth

"RIGA, LATVIA: having successfully showcased MOTOR Synth as the world’s first electro-mechanical desktop synthesizer at SUPERBOOTH19 in Berlin, May 9-11 — wowing well-known attendees like legendary French electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre and Atlanta-based American electronic musician and acclaimed sound designer Richard Devine in doing so, uncharted music electronics territories explorer Gamechanger | Audio is proud to announce that its IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign starts on Tuesday, May 28 (at 4PM GMT)…

Once its IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign commences, MOTOR Synth will be available to pre-order — prices starting at $749.00 USD — for 30 days. After the crowdfunding campaign closes, MOTOR Synth will only be available for online and in-store purchase at an MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price) of $1,299.00 USD when shipping starts, scheduled for around November/December 2019.

As the world’s first electro-mechanical desktop synthesizer, MOTOR Synth really represents a new method of analogue audio signal synthesis since digitally-controlled electromotors (used to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy) have never before been used as the principal sound source for a commercial musical instrument. In a nutshell, MOTOR Synth produces sounds by accelerating and decelerating eight electromotors to precise RPMs (revolutions per minute) that correspond with specific musical notes. Each electromotor is fitted with a magnetic pickup/inductor and an infrared photosensor that reads a spinning optical disc with printed sine, sawtooth, and square wave-shapes. Besides using motors as oscillators, the rest of the synth’s features are designed in the best tradition of analogue gear.

"Thanks to the hungarian distributor Audmax I`ve had a chance to play with this little box for a short time. Due to the character of the sound I used EQ one time to don`t kill any speakers and the reverb and Echo effects from Ableton in one place. Beside them no other FX was used. Every sound comes from the Volca itself."

Teisco S110F Mono/Duophonic Vintage Synth

via this auction

"Made under licence from ARP- the lo pass VCF is virtually identical in design & sound to the infamous ARP 2600 4012 transistor ladder VCF (the Moog copy!). Twin Osc. both with subsonic capabilities. FM cross modulation (Osc 1 into Osc 2) & ring modulation. White/Pink noise. LFO with vari-shape & Sample & Hold. Two ADSR envelopes. Great filter section with 24db Low pass with resonance (self oscillating-with gorgeous sine wave!), eight octave fixed filter bank finished off with a High pass filter. Duophonic (paraphonic) keyboard with portamento/legato. Touch sensitive (If you happen to be a Gorilla!) modulation pads. CV/Gate in/out & an external input into the filters & VCA.

The two clever bits of the synth's ergonomics are 1.) the five-LED meters to show the amount of modulation of the various sections; and 2.) the little LED arrows showing the amount of actual signal going from sound sources to VCF and VCA. Then of course there is the very unusual onboard fixed filter bank, and the good CV/gate interfacing. This really is one of the most thorough and effective mono/duosynth designs ever."

"The original version of the experimental robotic synth from bleep labs. Selling because I have too much gear. This thing is a lot of fun, especially paired with modular equipment. The light based inputs of it are especially cool. Bleep Labs Thingamagoop 2 Experimental Arduino Synthesizer. Condition is Used. Shipped with USPS First Class Package... This thing is really cool and weird! Operates on a 9v battery. I think it was hand built. One of the toggle switches is loose and doesnt work. The sounds it makes are super cool."

Load Runner-Pulse Synthesizers /Granular synthesizer with vocal in music

Published on May 27, 2019 Dziam Bass

"I have today a small movie from the last use in my evening session of the Load Runner module from Pulse Synthesizers .
Load Runner is a recently released granular synthesizer module.
This time I used just the vocals in the music on which I made light pellets and the usual vocal turned into a different psychedelic vocal, released by Black Octasource from Erica Synths with a very slow lfo, drums comes from Pico Drums also Erica Synths.
Load Runner allows us to load many samples up to 15 at a time and pellet them.
everything can be loaded from the usb memory, the memory cleans quickly and intuitively so you can, in principle, change the samples and search for new amazing sounds.
The Load Runner granular synthesizer allows you to load 16bit WAV files from USB flash drive into the modules internal memory and playback grains from those samples.
he Selected sample is shown graphically on the LCD from which grains are randomly generated between the start and range lines controlled by front panel and CV.
Grain length density and pitch are also controlled via the front panel or CV. Three pitch modes are selectable via the settings menu. The grain amplitude envelope is selectable from 10 shapes.
Recording of the module output to USB as a mono 16bit WAV file allows it to be reloaded into memory for granular playback.
There is also the ability to skip between samples using CV, i.e. sample up / down."

"This module is based on ideas suggested by Lucas Abela.

It is three vactrol based bandpass filters in parallel, each filter is fed into a voltage controlled delay stage. The outputs are available individually or there is an OUT ALL where all 3 signals are mixed.

Me being me designed the delays to go into stutter/zipper/breakdown territory to create the usual noise I love. If desired the delays can be built to remain in their normal operating regions.

PCB set = USD25
Panel = USD26
Assembled = USD260

"A talking toy with pitch control knob added and ability to trigger all the switch inputs over MIDI so they can be sequenced into slightly unsettling gibberish / beatboxing or even better to chop up the nursery rhyme tunes into some off-kilter woozy psych

Using a Moog MF drive pedal for tone control and lowpass filter (to knock off a little bit of the scratchiness) and Boss digital delay. MFB Tanzbar for drums... enjoy! don't have nightmares."

Doepfer A111-6 Sound Demo (no talking)

Published on May 27, 2019 Bonedo Synthesizers

A-111-6 Miniature Synthesizer

Module A-111-6 is a complete miniature monophonic synthesizer module that has these features available:

VCO
Tune: manual tune control (with an internal jumper the range can be set to ~ +/-1 half an octave or ~ +/-2.5 octaves)
Oct.: range switch -1 / 0 / +1 octave
Mod.: modulation depth (attenuator wired to the Mod. socket)
Dest.: switch that is used to address the modulation to frequency modulation (position FM) or pulsewidth modulation (positon PM), in center positon no modulation
PW: manual pulsewidth control for rectangle waveform, PW can be also modulated by the Mod. input as mentioned above
Wave: waveform switch (sawtooth / off / triangle), the sum of the waveform chosen by this switch and the rectangle is fed into the VCF (to turn the rectangle off the PW control has to be set fully CCW or fully CW)
1V/Oct. (socket): external CV input for VCO frequency (1V/octave)
access to internal bus CV (via jumper, optional, please remove the bus jumper if this feature is not used to avoid unwanted frequency modulation as then the unused CV line of the bus works as a kind of antenna)
triangle core VCO, frequency range about 32Hz ... 8kHz (??? still to be specified)
Balance unit

The balance unit is made of two VCAs which are controlled by the sum of manual Balance control and the balance CV input in the opposite direction.
The audio input of VCA1 is hard-wired to the VCO output, audio input 2 is connected to the socket Ext.In.
The output of the balance unit is used as audio input for the VCF
Bal.: manual balance control, fully CCW the internal VCO is used, fully CW the external signal (Ext.In) is used, at center position both signals have about the same level
CV Bal.: CV input for balance (range about 0...+5V)
Ext. In: external audio input for VCA2, about 5 Vpp level required for similar loudness as the internal VCO
this socket is normalled to the internal VCO suboctave f/2 signal (rectangle with half the frequency), if no external signal is applied the suboctave signal is used as the second signal for the balance unit

Luckily I've had a prototype for a while to play with and a final unit here for some videos too (see below, full demo coming soon). The Quad Operator is a no menu, no screen, totally open quad oscillator FM network. Algorithms are determined by the knobs and CV, want feedback - turn the knob up, want a different mod routing - turn the knob up ... simple! Great sound and highly capable of a huge range of FM synthesis tones and types."

The new oscillator looks great, I like the on board mixing and 3 controls for pitch! Having coarse, octave and fine will make it super quick and easy to tune and play. The quad T-Network with the 4 basic twin T percussion sounds I think is going to be really powerful in not much space for kicks, toms, tablas and clave like sounds. Finally the Tube Filter ... OOOOH that Tube filter! It's a licensed remake of the Gotharman TubaZ with loads of added extras."
