First Look: Modal Electronics CRAFTsynth 2.0 Now Available in Australia

Published on Jul 21, 2019 Noisegate

"CRAFTsynth 2.0 is a monophonic wavetable synthesiser from Modal Electronics and shares the same form factor as their SKULPT synthesiser. Craft is considerably smaller and cheaper than SKULPT, but sounds dramatically different. There’s really nothing else that sounds like it anywhere near this price point."

My video showing a new physical modeling acoustic sound creation synth, The Respiro.

Also it has the 1st showing of playing of my 3rd Artemis instrument I built, The Artemis Amber. It was built for my dear friend, Brent McCorkle.

And also featuring the amazing, NuEVI, made by the genius and good friend, Johan Berglund.

The head-set wind controller was created by Murat Şimşek of MRT Audio in Turkey. He's a great friend and amazing person. He makes beautiful instruments.

So we see the trend here, and I’m humbled to know and work with each of these truly talented and very good men. There are other people as well in this category I know and work with.

I’m very fortunate to know all such. Love you all! Thank you for bringing your music and musical devices to the world."

SEQUENTIAL CIRCUITS MULTI-TRAK | Analog Synthesizer 1985 | HD DEMO

Published on Jul 21, 2019 AnalogAudio1

"2019 (c) by AnalogAudio1

Synthesizer demo of the analog synthesizer SCI Multi-Trak from 1985.

For reverb effects, a Lexicon MPX 500 was used, along with a Korg SDD-3000 for delay effects.

The Multi-Trak has 1 VCO per voice (6 voice polyphonic). It also has PWM, 3 ADSRs, 24 dB VCF, noise generator, LFO with different waveforms and a chorus effect. It has a sort of "slimmed down polymodulation": VCF modulation by VCO for dirty and metallic timbres. Unison mode for fat, monophonic sounds. Great "stack mode" allows layering of six different patches. Velocity sensitive keyboard. The Multi-Trak also has a little 6 track sequencer and an arpeggiator built in. The basic sound is very similar to the Six-Trak, but in my opinion it sounds a bit different."

Triggering Tricks with WMD's Crucible

Published on Jul 21, 2019 Learning Modular

"The WMD Crucible's two trigger inputs can yield three different sounds:

- a trigger at just the Edge input simulates hitting the edge of of a cymbal
- a trigger at just at the Mid input simulates hitting the middle or “meat” of the cymbal
- a trigger happening at both inputs at the same time simulates hitting the bell or center of a cymbal

Patching a normal trigger generator like Mutable Instruments’ Grids that has an optional Accent output to the Edge and Mid inputs on Crucible will only yield edge and bell sounds, as the Accent trigger only happens at the same time as the main trigger output.

Therefore, to get all three sounds out of the crucible, you need two independent trigger sources that sometimes fire independently, and that sometimes fire at the same time - which I demonstrate above.

Casio Casiotone MT-52 vintage keyboard demo - "Sport Horses On Tour"

Published on Jul 21, 2019 Alfonse

"Casio Casiotone MT-52 keyboard (1985) with SuperDrums!!
All sounds you hear in the track were made using the Casio MT-52 and recorded to a DAW, where compression, EQ, reverb, delay and chorus were added as required. The drums are from the MT-52’s onboard rhythm options, which are generated by an analogue source and as a result are fat and groovy…

The aim of these videos is to see what you can create using sounds from ageing home keyboards together with current production tools. The MT-52 wins points just as a beatbox alone with its Super Drums feature, which allows for individual drum elements (kick, snare, conga, hi-hat) to be switched to one of 3 different pattern variations within a rhythm selection, allowing for plenty of customisation. The 16-Beat rhythm is an instant winner; so much groove...

Modal 002 vs John Bowen Solaris - quick example

Published on Jul 20, 2019 synthlegends

"Only a quick example of one string patch in reminiscence of the Oberheim OBXa with the Obie 12 dP LP Filter in Solaris and 12 dB LP Moog Ladder Filter in the 002.

Both patches use 2 oscillators slightly detuned with a simple saw wave.

On both I used minimal LFO for slightly modulation, but the 002 modulates itself because of the phase shifting of the detuned oscilators. Maybe it is also because of the NCO in the 002, which are a bit out of tune instead of the digital Oscillators in the Solaris.

In both patches I did some portamento/glide.

Both patches are dry with no internal or external effects. Other than in the video described, the Modal 002 has no 12 dB Filter, only a 6 dB Filter with Slope 12 dB BP to 24 LP. Sorry for the wrong description. Please Note: this small comparison is not representative to make a full opinion about both Synths. The differences are very huge. Some people are of the opinion that the 002 sounds more analogue. I agree with that because it has also an analog filter whereas the Solaris uses digital emulated filter. The Solaris sounds very Hifi, the 002 is unique thanks to NCO, DeRez (sort of PPG like resonance), the very warm slope filter and the Drive-Pot.

The Solaris is a modulation beast and maybe you can match the 002 patch in this video with some more tweaking better.

I did this video because there are some discussions about the sound comparison of these two high end synthesizers.

Thanks for watching!"

John Bowen Solaris and GEM S3 - Poly Aftertouch

Published on Jul 21, 2019 synthlegends

"A short demonstration of the Poly Aftertouch responsiveness on the GEM S3 workstation, which is one of a very view keyboards, which can play Poly AT. It is a pity that the really great keyboard of the Solaris is not capable of. In the second part of this video I demonstrate a sound comparision of the classic string patch. The GEM S3 is not bad sounding IMO."

"Reselling my Macbeth EL2, which is the latest revision of the Elements that Ken released last year. I’m the second owner. I bought from a guy in Switzerland here on reverb back in May [posted here] and just have ended up needing the money to fund a couple of outboard purchases.

There were only 30 of these made, and this is serial #016

Since there aren’t really many videos (or audio for that matter) of this thing online I made a couple of brief videos of it in action (though it can do SO MUCH MORE than what is in the videos)."

Coral - Ambient - Cocoquantus / Modular / Digitone / Digitakt / Tape

Published on Jul 21, 2019 Jogging House

Listen to the individual tracks. This one got me thinking about positional audio and dynamics. Music not only benefits from space to breath, but imagine being able to use VR controllers to position the individual tracks around you. Someone needs to come out with interactive positional music.

Video description:

"This is track nr. six of my new album 'Lure'. It is available digitally, on tape and vinyl here: https://seilrecords.bandcamp.com/albu...

'Coral' is composed with a Ciat Lonbarde Cocoquantus, a Eurorack modular system, Elektron Digitakts and a Digitone. Everything is sent through OTO Bim & Bam and then directly into the Revox B77 1/4" tape recorder.

Fun fact: When the camera is shaking a bit, that's my head hitting the tripod ...

I hope you enjoy it."
