Wavetable Multi Operator Synthesizer Audio Plug-In VST / AU / AAX / Demo & Pro

Admiralizor combines two synchronizable wavetable, sub and sample hold/track noise synthesizers with the flexibility and brilliance of a multi operator AM / RM / FM and PM cross synthesizer. The flexible 2D/3D real time wavetable editor comes with different morphing types, harmonic editing and a waveform generator.
Analogue sounding and routable resonance filters including shelving filters and key follow complete the clearness of the digital synthesizers.
Pulse width, amplitude, ring, real phase and 4 types of frequency modulations are included.
On board is a step sequencer and arpeggiator with different pattern lengths, swing, tie and key substitution.
The unison feature layers many slightly detuned waveforms to make sounds fat and wide.
The massive and „scroll less“ FX section contains dynamics (including compressor, expander, limiter and gate), tremolo, pre eq, overdrive, distortion, post eq, vibrato, phaser, flanger, chorus, delay, reverb, equalizer, filter and limiter.
Admiralizor contains many modulation sources (e.g. macros, LFOs featuring on/off triggering/delay/bpm, envelopes, two flexible chaos modulators) and hundreds of (aux) modulation parameters with adjustable polarity and transposition.
A flexible preset manager including quick presets, A/B comparison, multi filtering and text search is in-built.
Resizable UI from very small up to Ultra-HD & 5K Retina, multi step undo/redo, MPE support, key hold, gain protection, auto off and the customizable RMS meter are more than nice-to-have features.

Behringer MS1 vs Roland SH101 Monosynths Compared

Published on Nov 21, 2019 Perfect Circuit

"We compared the new Behringer MS-1 with a vintage Roland SH-101. The Behringer has a faster LFO and a triangle waveform that the SH-101 doesn't have. What differences do you notice between the two?

The MS-1 is a single oscillator monophonic synth that is great for basslines and leads. Combining multiple waveforms and the sub-oscillator give the MS-1 a way thicker sound than most single oscillator synths. The built in sequencer is easy to program and since it has trigger and cv/gate inputs it works well with modulars and semi-modulars, the keyboard and sequencer also output cv/gate."

Voice of the Cylon - Battlestar Galactica, The ARP 2500, and the EMS Vocoder 1000

Published on Nov 20, 2019 supajc

Amazing series sent my way via John L Rice. Playlist and descriptions for each video in the playlist above, directly below. Enjoy. ;)

See here for previous posts featuring Battlestar Galactica.

1. Voice of the Cylon Pt. 1 The Synthesizer [ARP 2500]
Battlestar Galactica fans & synthesizer community, rejoice! For the first time in history the mysterious sound of the Cylon voice is revealed. I tracked down probably the last person alive who knows the entire formula, very private individual still works in visual arts. To him it was just a job he did 40 years ago, to me it's one of the most mesmerizing sounds in musical/sci-fi fx history. 6 parts to this series as of 11-2019.
2. Voice Of The Cylon Pt. 2 the Voice Recording
My contact told me "they brought us the voices" on Nagra III and IV tape machines. Vocoder recorded back to Nagra for film sync. Voice actor Micheal Santiago was hired to do the voice, but didn't, telling youtube user intromix later that "they ended up getting someone cheaper" to do it. One actor did all the voices, for consistency, reading the script in a lifeless, monotone voice as to not shift the frequency spectrum in the vocoder.
3. Voice Of The Cylon Pt. 3 The Vocoder [EMS Vocoder, specifically the Vocoder 1000]
Finally it is known exactly which vocoder was used for the Cylon voice. Universal Studios had rented the EMS and Sennheiser, and when sound designer Peter Berkos was asked about it circa 2008 he mis-remembered due to having the Sennheiser manual still. Youtube user intromix has owned both and tested oscillators, it could not have been the Sennheiser but now we know for sure anyway.
4. Voice of the Cylon Pt. 4 the Phaser & Distortion [Countryman Associates Type 968A Phase Shifter]
The rare, quirky effect box that was used as an impromptu distortion device. My contact told me that they floated the idea of using a guitar amp and/or pedals, but did not even try it once they found this. ** Also, he told me NO Marshall Time modulator was used as it hadn't even been released yet.
5. Voice of the Cylon Pt. 5 Recording Gear
Two main pieces of studio recording gear that were present at Universal Studios in 1978 that had a big impact on the sonic character of the Cylon voice recording. Big thanks to Ken from Electrodyne for all his advice, as well as and
6. Voice Of the Cylon Pt. 6 Audio Demos & Credits
Resurrecting the sound of the Cylon Centurion from the original Battlestar Galactica 1978 using the original equipment. Once the vocoder was recorded, it was further altered/degraded by multiple tape transfers in the video editing process, post-production techniques (EQ and reverb, to "place" the character in a big room, spaceship, etc) My contact said there were just pieces of tape on the gear to place knobs/switches back where they were; and that the synthesizer frequently sounded very different from day to day or after a power outage. In the series there are wildly differing Cylon tones, tiny movements in gain or EQ settings (especially the ringy ARP 2500 filters) radically alter the vocoder due to the ultra-harmonic richness of the tone. So many preamps and transformers involved, it was hard for THEM to make the Cylon voice consistent. Supposedly sound designer Peter Berkos wrote notes on the process, Universal Studios couldn't locate any info at all, it likely all burned down in the great fire of 2008 as well as the golden ARP 2500 oscillator used all throughout Galactica 1980.
Preamp was running a bit hot in this demo, didn't catch until after, so this tone sounds extra crunchy in this example. I sampled my tones with lowpass filter a bit too low, hope to get another chance with the real thing some day.
7. Gold Cylon Voice Vulpa [extra video]
Recreating the lower voice of the Gold Cylon commander. There are so many steps and factors to re-creating the Cylon voice even the original crew could not make it consistent on a day-to-day basis. Out of hundreds of test files this year I'm only really happy with about 5 of them but will keep working to recreate it perfectly.

Sequential Circuits Prophet~600 | By Design

Published on Nov 21, 2019 Alex Ball

"Another synth demo, this time with the Sequential Circuits Prophet~600 buddied up with its siblings.

This synth was the very first instrument released with midi (with Dave Smith of Sequential being the "father of midi"). He was later awarded a Grammy for its invention along with Ikataro Kakehashi of Roland. It was famously hooked up to a Roland Jupiter-6 at the Winter NAMM of 1983 to demonstrate that a universal protocol had been achieved.

The Prophet~600 was the third of this iconic series to be released after the Prophet~5 (1978) and Prophet~10 (1980). With their eye on affordable poly synths such as the Kory Polysix and Roland Juno-60, Sequential looked to create a cutdown version of their earlier Prophets and the 600 was the result. Around 6,000 of them were made between 1983 - 1985.

It has 6-voice polyphony with two oscillators per voice and has mixable saw, triangle and pulse available on both of those oscillators. The VCOs are identical to those found in the Prophet~5 rev3, Pro~One and Prophet~10 but the other ICs are different.

It has a resonant low pass filter, two envelopes, an LFO, poly mod, glide, oscillator sync, unison mode, patch memory, an arpeggiator and two sequencers.

And here's where things get interesting: the 600 has digitally generated envelope, LFO and glide voltages as well as digital values for the switches and potentiometers. In order to keep the cost down, an 8-bit Z80 processor and DAC were used that didn't quite have the spec to perform these functions at the speed or with the resolution that was ideal (it was 1983 after all). The result was that the envelopes weren't snappy enough and when sweeping the filter you can hear it stepping through the values.

Most owners rectify this and unlock the potential of the 600 with the GliGli mod that replaces the old processor with a modern one and also adds a bunch of features and the unit I'm using has this upgrade. We now have increased resolution, extra LFO modes, multimode envelope generation, unison detune, noise source, mix overdrive, full midi implementation and more.

In terms of physical changes, the oscillator mix potentiometer is now the Oscillator A level and the portamento the Oscillator B level. The envelope amount is now bi-polar with level 5 being the 0 volt point. The other updates are accessed via the numeric pad and speed dial whilst in manual mode.

I made all the sounds in manual mode and also used some timed automation of various parameters in places via midi.

Instruments used:
Sequential Circuits Prophet~600 (1983)
Sequential Circuits Pro~One (1981)
Sequential Circuits Drumtraks (1984)
Ibanez Jem 7DBK (2002)
Fender Blues Junior II mic'd with an SM57
Boss CE-2 (1979)"

PPG Waveterm Synthesizer Monitor W/ Flight Case

via this auction

Update: price dropped to $2500

"First things first: No! This is not a sticker or fu$&ing refrigerator magnet! This is an actual genuine real life PPG Waveterm Synthesizer. Monitor unit only, I don’t have the keyboard that goes with it, nor do I have any other hardware or software that this machine may require.

I honestly don’t know anything about this machine other than it’s very rare. It was amongst a whole bunch of various stuff left in a storage unit I purchased. Did a tiny amount of research on the item and am now selling it.

As seen in the pics, it does power right up and the screen works just fine. Thats all I know for a fact that it does. I have no way and/or knowledge of how to test the rest of its capabilities, but it comes on as soon as it’s turned on, doesn’t make a peep while on, doesn’t omit any strange odors, so I’m confident it will in fact do any and everything it was originally designed to do...... with the proper hardware that, again, does not come with this unit.

***The stated asking price is not for real. I’ve had trouble trying to price this thing and was hoping any interested parties could message me what they think it’s probably worth and/or make an offer, or at the very least I can have it on here longer than 7-10 days so as to hopefully drum up more interest before I either lower the price or re-list it as an auction.

It is safe and secure and ready for travel in its fitted rack mount flight case, made by Calzone.

Total weight on this unit in the case is 78 1/2 lbs, which means it will have to be mailed via Freight. It will be mailed via FedEx or UPS, I’m not trusting the USPS to deliver it safely. It will be insured for the final selling price. It’s dimensions are 27”x 20” x 19”."

Yamaha CS-60 61-Key with Aftertouch Synthesizer SN 1934

via this auction, also on Reverb

"Up for sale is this 1970s Yamaha CS-60 from our recording studio. This CS-60 has been very well maintained and professionally cared for over the years. We have the original hardtop for it too but one of the latches is missing. We used the top as a dust cover when the keyboard wasn't being played. There are a few cosmetic marks near the ribbon controller which are strictly visual and do not interfere with the function. The CS-60 is 100% functional, perfectly tuned and ready to be integrated into your workflow!

The CS-60 is easy to play. While they are high technology musical instruments, you don’t have to know about electronics to understand how to use them. The CS-60 will give you a incredible variety of electronic sounds, but it goes further than that.

The CS-60 is a unique polyphonic synthesizer which place the entire realm of musical expression at your fingertips. The CS-60 enables you to play 8 notes simultaneously. The CS-60 is a true musical instrument, not merely a “special effects” tool. The sounds are infinitely variable, and because the keyboard is touch sensitive, you have increased dynamic control over your music."

"The Galaxy Electric - Buchla Cosmic Drone - Session 1 - 11/18/19 - Modular Drone Music

Relax and tune into our live weekly Drone Sessions. This inaugural session involves a drone featuring 4 Buchla style square wave oscillators starting in tune a couple octaves apart. As the oscillator frequencies drift apart by way of manual control beating ensues. Listening to droning oscillators can serve as an aid in a meditation practice as there is no sudden changes in sound. Just smooth drifts in pitch and the resulting beat frequencies. Drones can also serve as an ambient track to have on while doing tasks that require intense focus. The slow yet progressive nature of a drone performance can help one focus on tasks without distraction.

The electronic music instruments used in this performance of modular drone music are the Buchla Music Easel, and a small system involving a Buchla clone model 259 Programmable Complex Waveform Generator, Buchla 292h Dual Lowpass Gate, and 281h Dual Function Generator in the Buchla LEM Powered 3 Boat."

The DAO is a dual version of the masterful Émilie Gillet's Mutable Instruments Braids. The new dual interface design and electrical engineering to assure Buchla system compatibility was performed by 1979 modular. The HARM and TOY* Algorithms are featured in this patch. The varied pitches as well as the animation of the DAO's parameters are being generated at random by the Source of Uncertainty. The 292c Quad Lopass Gate is used as a dual VCA in this instance and is being animated by the 280r Quad Envelope Generator. This is a modular synthesizer tutorial and demonstration that focuses on the Buchla modular synthesizer system."
