The Buchla 400

via The Buchla Archives (@buchla_archives)

"The Buchla 400 was the prototype for what has became the modern digital audio workstation. Multiple software programs, sophisticated user interface and pre-midi external digital interfacing were all present on this design from 1981. In Part 1 : Overview - we take a look at the 400 Series concept."

"This is my mint condition Endorphin.es Shuttle System with the Strong Zero VCO module. Module is separate and not currently installed. Comes with original box, patch cables, trrs cables x2, power cable and black face plate. Unit was purchased with black faceplate originally and I swapped it out to the gold. I think it looks better than either version as the original gold has plastic knobs and these are all machined aluminum."

Kaivo: Gate Module Overview

video upload by Madrona Labs

"Kaivo is a software instrument combining two powerful synthesis techniques (physical modeling and granular synthesis) in an easy-to-use semi-modular package. It’s laid out a bit like an acoustic instrument; the GRANULATOR module acts like the player’s touch, exciting one or more tuned objects (here, the RESONATOR module, based on physical models of resonant objects) that come together in a central resonating body (the BODY module, also physics-based)."

Old School Vibes! 💙 Breakbeat Jam!

video upload by Electronisounds Audio

"I specifically did not use any VOCAL SAMPLES in this jam as that is kind of my trademark style - to always have a vocal sample that gives the jam or track some kind of "identity" (in my opinion). I don't do a lot of Breakbeat Genre jams, so we'll see if they can still guess it's me! Hahaha

4/15/24 Viscount R-64s PCM + Peavey 1300 + DBX 900 (3x 905/903) + Lexicon PCM 70 (small room)

video upload by Cfpp0

"In boca al lupo, ragazza. Ciao! A final test of the recently serviced, perfectly working, very rare, and wonderfully Italian Viscount R-64s PCM 8-bit drum machine before packing it up and sending it off to its new owner. Mix out goes mono to a Mackie submixer to the DBX 900, going through one 905/903 into the next 905/903, with an aux send from the Mackie out to the Peavey 1300 delay going to a third 905/903 set. Those two signals then go to two channels on the Mackie Onyx 1640 mixer, with Lexicon PCM 70 small room reverb on an aux."

PPG 1002 - Analog Synthesizer (Pro Serviced + Swan Flightcase)

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this listing

"PPG Synthesizer 1002 for sale pro-serviced and comes with swan flightcase.

Had this for almost 6 years and serviced recently by Stefan Hubner who has a deep understanding of PPG systems.

Some things to observe, one underside key broken but doesn't affect play..these are originals. Jacks for CV, Gate and filter modulation have been added and adjusted to 1V/oct. Jacks added in Service. 'The mains wiring has been re-done according to current safety expectations (not to say standards) including a 'pig tail' cable with an IEC male plug for easier connection. CV and Gate were never standard on the 1002 so the ones having it were all more or less hacks, especially when it comes to oscillator CV. One would expect 1V/octave with 0 volts at a defined note usually. For the 1002 without my modification this means you set the potentiometer on the back that usually came with CV in to track 1V per octave but then had to add an offset of something around 2 volts to reach the lowest C. My approach disconnects the keyboard instead of adding some external voltage somewhere and simulates exactly what the keyboard delivers starting at 0 volts for the lowest C. The connection is being made by a relay actuated by the contacts in the CV jack. By simulating the keyboard, all panel functions remain active on the external CV (glide, tune, modulation) Trigger/Gate is a voltage input (V-Trig) working from 5V up. The filter input only modulates the filter setting and is not intended to make the filter track, for this purpose you should rather use the panel knob that attaches the cutoff control to the keyboard CV.'"

DNIPRO MODULAR qTone Dual-Channel Quantizer

qTone quantizer tutorial video upload by DNIPRO MODULAR

"Here is a step by step qTone module demo. This will involve creating some tunes with a quantizer."

"The Dnipro Modular qTone is a two-channel quantizer for Eurorack systems, providing an easy way to convert any CV signal to perfectly quantized musical notes. With 16 user-defined scales, you can effortlessly tailor your melodies to perfectly match the tonal make-up of your music, or get creative by layering two different scales on each quantizer channel. Both channels feature options for Glide or portamento, Offset, which adjusts CV value pre-quantization, and Transpose, which nudges quantized CV values up or down in semitones.

Each of the four quantizer settings may be controlled by CV, opening up highly flexible options for continuously morphing melodic sequences. Finally, utilizing the Trig inputs allow you to operate the quantizer much like a sample and hold, only passing a newly sampled voltage when a trigger is applied. This is useful for creating rhythmic pitch changes when using non-clocked CV sources like LFOs. With so much melody-mangling potential in just 6hp, qTone from Dnipro Modular is a fantastic choice for quantization in any system.

"I changed just one module in one system recently and that has caused a 'modular-Tetris' chain reaction meltdown across multiple systems! 🤦‍♂️🧐🙄😅

Anyway, I stopped working to test a patch idea: using the Ladik J-110 Derivator to create 4 separate gates from a single Erica Synths LFO output that are used to play a Squarp Instruments Rample sample player. (Athena Ladik Burst module is processing one of the outputs from the Derivator)"

Songs From The Periodic Table

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"If each element in the periodic table has a spectrum that can be used to idenfity it, each color in the spectrum can be converted to a frequency. So each element has a distinct sound signature, a scale. It's not easy to make them audible, but with a stack of tone generators you should be able to set it up. You can approach this with additive synthesis - creating sinewave partials for each frequency band, but approaching it as scales is much more intriguing. Each element has its own 'microtonal scale' and some of them are quite beautiful when you compose in the key of Mother Nature.

This experiment feels like actual sonic Alchemy where you can turn the sound of Lead into the sound of Gold, the sound of water - or even 'listen' to the five elements of our DNA. Also, these frequencies have nothing to do with the actual vibration frequency of a atom. Oxygen, for instance, vibrates at 60 GHz and there's no way you can hear it.

I used Droid Master with an array of LFO's running at audio rates to recreate a spectrum's frequency bands (with two digit decimal precision). I found the conversion tables on https://musicoftheperiodictable.com."

The World’s FIRST Digital Reverb: EMT 250 Part 1 Demo with a Sequential Circuits Prophet-5

video upload by foleytronics fx repair

"This is a 1976 EMT 250 digital reverb, one of not very many ever made. It came to the shop screaming white noise in my ear as soon as you turn it on, which ended up being a RAM issue. 12 bit (quasi 15 bit according to the manual as it converts the signal to floating point while it processes the signal, though I think they meant 16 bit as the RAM array is 8k x 16), 24 khz sample rate, probably around a 10 kHz roll off.

Part I discusses how to use it and you can hear some sound demos, part II will explore the circuitry of the unit a little more.
