Access Virus TI soundscape - Some days just happen

video upload by MIDERA

"Some days just happen.

I’ve been really frustrated by the lack of communication at a company I was buying something from. So I mention my frustrations on a forum and people just have apparently have no means of sympathizing and have to be all terse about it. I don’t know why this kind of thing ruins my day - but it does. So now I’m frustrated by this company - and by people on forums. I just want to cancel my order and say screw it.

Then - a huge storm came through today and broke a huge branch off of a tree. That fell and smashed into our deck, damaging it. It also smashed into an apricot tree - now we need to cut down that tree too.

I’m thankful my kids were safe through all of this of course.

Oh yeah, and our basement flooded and a bunch of games got ruined.

Just - sometimes - It just seems like nothing can go right.

Well, that’s why I go play music. It just takes me away from all of that.

No external fx used."

Update: I was curious what a "Compton church organ" might be. A quick search brought up the following via Wikipedia:

"John Compton (1876–1957) was a pipe organ builder, born in Newton Burgoland, Leicestershire, England.[1] His business based in Nottingham and London flourished between 1902 and 1965.[2]"

And:

"Compton cinema organs, built by the John Compton Organ Company of Acton, were the most prevalent of theatre organs in the UK. 261 were installed in cinemas and theatres in the British Isles. Comptons made many fine church and concert organs as well. The company's cinema organs employed the latest technology and engineering and many are still in existence. One of the most notable is the large 5 manual example at the Odeon Cinema Leicester Square in central London."

Burford Reefer "Coral Sitar" Emulator (really a Green Ringer) on a Casio AT-40 Arabic Keyboard

video upload by Edward Jones

"The rectifying octave up of the Green Ringer style circuit sounds frankly amazing on the analogue sine-based drum tones that the drums on AT-40. We were not expecting it to sound so cool. We were in "Flavour Country".

If you want this sound on your own tracks, I highly recommend 'Gringer' by Chris from Airwindows. He's made a model of the rectifying part of the circuit. To get the full 'Reefer' experience, place a warm overdrive on the way into Gringer to emulate the first stage of the Reefer pedal.

"A new ambient session by the river. In 2021, at this location, I recorded my first jam in nature.

In reality, my wife and I often visit this spot. It’s like our refuge, where we spend a lot of time, escaping from the hustle and everyday problems of the city.

So this jam, inspired by this location, sounds like a gentle, relaxing drone under the blazing sun, enveloped in the scent of wild grass.
Enjoy listening."

Soniccouture Releases Balinese Flutes: Modelled Wind Instrument for Kontakt Player

"A mystical jam by keyboard maestro Andre Louis, playing Soniccouture Balinese Flutes VST."

via Soniccouture

"Balinese Flutes, or Suling, are end-blown flutes played solo, together with gamelan ensembles, and occasionally in other ensembles. They’re typically made of bamboo and have six sound holes. They vary greatly in size from the enormous suling gambuh to a tiny suling kantilan. We have four in our collection.

Using cutting-edge phase-matching techniques, we have created a dynamic, expressive instrument that is simple and inspiring to play."

BTMX by Schlappi Engineering - Demo

video upload by Stazma

"Today I'll show you some stuff with the new module by Schlappi Engineering, the BTMIX!
Lot's of fun stuff do with this one when it comes to control or loose control of your rhythms and create weird stepped voltages patterns. From gate hub to audio rate mangling."

"BTMX (BitMix) gives hands on control over logic and rhythmic gate signals with a switch for every input and 4 different logic functions.

It is a 4 channel selectable logic function module, with each channel having two inputs. All channels share the same logic function and the gate outs are summed with binary weights to create a stepped voltage to generate melodic or modulation signals from the outputs.

It pairs well with the Nibbler, other 4 bit logic modules, or any modules that generates gates (such as clock dividers and sequencers) and can also be used at audio rates.

Features

8 switched inputs
4 dual input logic functions (AND, OR, ADD, XOR)
4 gate outputs
1 stepped output
LED indication for every input and output
Works at LFO and audio rate
8 HP
Current consumption: +12v 26mA, -12V 10mA"

The Forgotten Synth That Launched a Ground-Breaking Technology

video upload by HAINBACH

"Franklin Eventoff, an American tinkerer and musician invented the force sensing resistor in 1977. This allowed for touch control of voltage, which he used to create instruments. It found first commercial musical use in the Mattel Musical Thing, a cheap toy synth. Frustrated with the experience, Eventoff went on to create the much more refined Sonica. The Sonica is a lovingly crafted boutique instrument with an oscillator by famed Serge Tcherepnin, the creator of the Serge synthesizer. Only about 650 where made, and they are collector's items. The technology of the force sensing resistor proved hugely successful and lives on in cars, robotics and instruments like the AKAI MPC and the Otamatone.

Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave soundscape IV - Light blinds the way

video upload by MIDERA

"I think this will be my final soundscape with the 3rd Wave. I will need to return it to its owner. It's been fun playing through it and learning its ins and outs, to the extent that I could.

It's... a cool synth. I think the overall 'crystalline' sound it has is maybe not for me. I couldn't really shake that. Probably just didn't spend enough time with it, but it's hard to say. You can't really make it sound bad, but I guess I'm not sure if that's a good thing.

I'm conflicted. But also, I know I gravitate towards keyboard versions of synths, so maybe that plays a role (although I love the Modor NF-1). I don't know. Something I need to do... test my Virus TI and its wavetables. Add some oscillator saturation, use the analog filters and ask myself, "does this take me anywhere near where the 3rd Wave took me?'

Eventide Blackhole VST used for reverb (I didn't want FX clipping).

RYK Modular ALGO Quad Complex Oscillator Bank Review

video upload by Molten Music Technology

"ALGO is a bank of oscillators that creates complexity through cross-modulation via uncomplicated interaction. In other words, it's four beautiful sine wave oscillators that you can warp, fold and jam into each other for some fabulously easy-going FM timbres. Here's my review.

RYK sent me the module for review, therefore I have to tick the "Paid Promotion" box, but they haven't paid me to do anything with it or have any say in the content."

20 pole Phaser by Jurgen Haible running 808 track

video upload by VanDaalElectronics

"This is a project built on Jurgen Haible 20 pole phaser board. Cases are custom made by us @Van Daal Electronics.

Assembled units can be purchased from: https://vandaal-electronics.com/

For DIY builds PCBs can be ordered from https://serge-modular.com/haible/tau_..."

Additional details:

Jürgen Haible's legendary redesign of the Tau 'The Pipe' Flanger - actually, a Phaser, using 20 (twenty!) all pass filter stages is back in a slightly modernized version, including some additions and modifications compared to the original Haible board:

Transistor arrays (for the 20 poles): pcb supports super-matched THAT300 (DIP) or BCM847DS (SMT).

Obsolete CA3046 in the 1/x function generator has been replaced by LM3046 (SMT).

MTA-156 power connector for +/-15V added - don't install the onboard-PSU parts if you use +/-15V!!!

MTA-156 power connector can also be used for 10 pin Euro power connectors - please note that +/-12V is experimental, not supported (yet), see below!

LFO: slow mode option has been added (simply connect L* to UP2 or DOWN1 via SPDT switch).
Optional CV mixer/processor has been added (untested!).

Connectors have been moved to the edge of the board to allow connecting component pcbs via pin headers - downside: space may be too tight to use normal headers. Workaround: use (breakable) precision sockets for manual wiring or testing.

pcb size: 6" x 3.4"
