////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

It is divided into the following sections:

SWITCHED ON 80s - This third series takes an in-depth look into six classic 80s synthesisers, selected because of their interesting and unique attributes

LITTLE BLACK BOXES - A further look at some classic rack mount studio gear of the 80s and 90s

SYNTHESISER CLUB - A short musical demonstration of a synthesiser classic or three, concentrating on 'families' of synths

COMMERCIAL BREAK - Some shameless Memetune shilling

PATCHING TODAY - A deep-dive into vintage modular systems and how to set up a patch on them, starting from scratch, this time using Cybersynthesis techniques to bring an element of surprise to the patches

VIDEO LAB - A look at old video equipment and how to create experimental visuals, concentrating on a specific device in each episode

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

In THIS episode:

SWITCHED ON 80s - A detailed look at the Korg Monopoly from 1981, and Benge unveils his virtual 80s studio environment

LITTLE BLACK BOXES - A look at four of the first true Little Black Boxes - not synths, but early digital reverberation units: the AMS RMX16, Quantec Room Simulator, Yamaha REV1 and the Lexicon Model 200

SYNTHESISER CLUB - Today, it's the Kawai Klub - the K4 synth, R-50 drum machine, Q-80 sequencer and K1m desktop synth. The drum machine and sequencer were very kindly donated to Memetune by a generous viewer called Alex 💕

COMMERCIAL BREAK - Some adverts for Memetune-related goodies, including the new Memetune Annual 2024, a Benge album on vinyl, and the range of Memetune merchandise

PATCHING TODAY - on the Serge Paperface system, and a modern recreation of the CGS Gated Comparator in Serge format made by Loudest Warning

VIDEO LAB - In this episode we take a deep dive into the legendary Panasonic MJ-MX50 Production Mixer from the mid-1980s

Prophet Rev 2 + Microcosm + Digitakt II + Chroma Console

video upload by Hologram Electronics

"Some moments from a loose performance with a synthesizer, drum machine/sampler, Microcosm, and Chroma Console.

The Prophet Rev 2 is plugged directly into Microcosm. Then, Microcosm is going stereo out into Digitakt II. From there, the whole mix is sent from the Digitakt to Chroma Console and then to our interface to record one stereo track.

Throughout, Chroma Console is always on, serving as an end-of-chain compression/saturation box for all of the instruments and Microcosm. It’s used a bit more aggressively here just so it’s obvious, but it’s capable of much subtler compression and saturation. Just tweak it til you like it.

Delay and Vibrato are used as performative effects, brought on and off using the Dual Bypass feature. Chroma Console is synced to the Digitakt’s clock, which makes all of its time based effects in sync with the music.

Microcosm is kinda just doing it’s thing. Seq C is a preset that sounds very nice and washy, especially if you add some reverb. All that wash gets sidechained by the kick, just by virtue of all the compression that Chroma Console is adding."

SOR Revolution JP8000 Vol.2

video upload by SoundsOfRevolution

The Soundset 'SOR Revolution JP8000/8080 Vol. 2' comes with 64 brand new patches for Electro-/Trance-/Techno-productions.

Containing wonderfully rich analog-sounding patches (Kraftwerk / J.M.Jarre style), ultra fat & crystal clear sparkling trance leads, luscious warm pads, crazy effect sounds and lots of trendy, faaaaat & powerful sounds to rock the clubs ! – As always you won’t find any boring brass/piano/flute patches here! – You know what I mean…

Some awesome sound reproductions of well-known artists are included as well. The variety of the patches is enormous.

NOTE: We programmed 2 versions of this set! One JP8000 and a special JP8080 version that uses the new functions of the rack unit like NOISE at OSC 2…it sounds amazing!

We really have gone all out to bring you cutting-edge sound programming which gets the max out of this fantastically FAT sound engine!

As in V1, we have avoided clicks in the attack – the typical JP-problem. Furthermore, every sound can be altered by modulation (ribbon controller, velocity assigned…) – sometimes drastically!

For us the Roland JP8000 / 8080 is one of the greatest synths out there! So what are you waiting for? Revolutionize your JP now.

Revolution JP8000/8080 Vol.2 is the perfect completion to Vol. 1 which has been completely revised! Only some Emagic Logic Reverb was added at the mp3 demo."

’14 Analogsynthesizer - synth wave multitrack

video upload by vermonagear

"Join Hans and Thomas as they showcase the very first ’14 Analogsynthesizer produced in our Elektroakustischen Manufaktur in Erlbach. Using multitrack recording, they crafted a captivating synth wave track that highlights the instrument’s versatility. From punchy drum sounds to lush pads and shimmering arpeggios, this stunning blue synthesizer does it all. The only additional elements are stock effect plugins from Logic Pro.

The ’14 Analogsynthesizer is a limited-edition masterpiece, with only 222 units ever made. However, we still manufacture the Mono Lancet ’15—its “little brother” in size, yet its original inspiration."

Tascam 388 Session: Prophet 10, MPC X, Yamaha RX11, Line6 HX Stomp XL

video upload by Retrothusiast

"Join me in this exciting recording session featuring the Tascam 388, a classic multitrack recorder that's stood the test of time. Starting with a groovy drum beat crafted on the Yamaha RX11, I sequenced the rhythm alongside a deep, punchy bassline from the Prophet 10 using the powerful MPC X. From there, I tracked everything in stereo on the Tascam 388, laying down the foundation for an inspiring retro music production. Adding to the mix, I recorded two guitar tracks through the versatile Line6 HX Stomp XL, and wrapped it up with a live synth performance on the Prophet 10, bringing the session to life.

This video showcases the seamless workflow and unique sonic character of these iconic pieces of gear. You'll hear the raw, unprocessed sound of the Tascam 388, letting you experience its warm analog tone. Whether you're a fan of vintage music equipment or curious about retro recording techniques, this session highlights how these classic tools—Tascam 388, Prophet 10, MPC X, Yamaha RX11, and Line6 HX Stomp XL—come together to create something timeless"

Instruō Introduces glōc - Clock Generator and Processor

Overview video upload by Instruō

"Introducing glōc, a clock generator and processor. Capable of turning a single internal/external clock input into a stream of related clock sources. Predictable division/multiplication, complex trigger/gate sequences via probabilistic masking - or any combination of both across each of its 7 clock pulse outputs. Onboard dynamic phase alignment, smart tap tempo detection and locked vs live modes make glōc excellent for performative and generative temporal exploration!

• Tap tempo clock generator
• 1 clock input to 7 output Clock processor
• Manual or CV control over the spread of clock divisions/multiplications • Probabilistic “coin-toss” logic for random phrasing
• Probabilistic density masking for repeated phrasing
• Manual Pulse width control over Clock Pulse outputs
• Dedicated Clock Reset input
• Live and Lockable Clock output states
• Smart tempo follower and manual button
• Save and recall settings between power cycles"

Musical & Fun Eurorack Clock Generation & Modulation // GLOC by Instruo
video upload by DivKid

"Here's a smart use of 4HP with clock generation and modulation/processing from Instruo with the new GLOC! Gloc (translates to clock from Scots Gaelic) has a smart tap tempo following clocking system built in for internal or external clocking and then provides multiplications and divisions with can be spread in time and then carved into with two types of probability control. One your typical random/coin toss with variable weightings or smart musical density masks that provide more repetitive musical rhythms. You can also program and lock output states (very simply I should add) so you can go wild modulating rhythms while keeping others constant ... there's a lot going on in an easy to use, small package."

First Patch with First Contact (from SetonixSynth & Tidbit Audio)

"I bought this gadget at Knobcon 2024 but I'm just now getting around to making my first patch with it. I took an aquarium pump and put it into a pilsner glass full of water, then integrated the output with a couple Eurorack oscillators. The result is surprisingly pleasing.

40 years Last Christmas by Wham! ❄️
from the album: Music from the Edge of Heaven (1984)
Written by George Michael

Featured the Roland Juno-106 (1984), the Roland SH-101 (1981) , the Yamaha Reface CP (Rhodes) and the PPG wave 2.2 (1982)

This cover song series contains my own recreations of my favourite songs from the last 50 years. The original music from which I take inspiration belong to their respective owners. I recreate tracks only for personal passion and to pay homage to these tracks.
My intention is not to create covers that sound exactly like the original (if you want to hear identical sounds, please listen the original). It's more of an inspiration with my sounds from the old synthesizers from the past and of course the great appreciation for the original performers and producers."

Dream Machine | Sonicware Liven Ambient Ø | New Set of 36 Songs

video upload by Sonic Cartography

"I haven’t had time to make videos for my channel for a while because I’ve been making Ambient Ø tutorials for the ‪@SONICWARE‬ channel’s Beginner’s Guide series. In the meantime, I’ve been accumulating lots of songs and song ideas on the synth. This is a set of most of them (some in abbreviated form), which I’m releasing all at once to sort of “clear the vault” and feel like I can start afresh with making new music. Unlike the previous collection I did, this one contains some actual ambient music—particularly the middle section. I'm not totally happy with how some of these turned out, but I'm trying to learn how to not let the perfect be the enemy of the good (enough), so I'm just going to publish this anyway... "

Additional Analog U.S Listings

Also on eBay

"This one is in good cosmetic condition and working 100%. This is for the synth only and not the keyboard. It has been professionally serviced and with a lot of restoration by Phil Cirocco of CMS. As some of you know, Phil is highly respected and is the premiere ARP specialist. This ARP 2600 is a V3.0 made on the 23rd week (June) of 1973. It has some unusual markings for V3. As you can see, it has the G-Clef sticker, but with the Tonus logo Silkscreen. It has the 15.5" panel which is correct for a V3.0, but has the squared speaker grille instead of the oval. All of this is cosmetic, however. It will be properly packaged when sold and will arrive in the condition as stated. Proof of the actual shipping cost will be provided if needed. This unit is listed as a USA sale only, but I am willing to ship to other countries. Not sold as-is!

Cosmetically - Nothing is mint, minty, super mint, etc., in my opinion, and this one is no exception. There are plenty of imperfections on this one as you can see, but the synth itself looks very good in my opinion. Please check out the photos. The handle was replaced with a new one, it has new Switchcraft washers, and all the jack nuts were ultrasonically cleaned.

Internally- Apart from any repairs (there were many), the unit has been disassembled and cleaned, all of the original sliders cleaned and re-lubed, the power supply has been rebuilt, it has a new Accutronics reverb tank, several encapsulated modules replaced, some switches replaced, several connectors cleaned & tightened, and the main out jacks replaced. There was a lot done to this unit so this will likely be updated."

Now on iPad!: Motto Akemie (Akemie’s Taiko Eurorack) // Walkthrough & Review

video upload by Gavinski’s Tutorials

"This video is a walkthrough and review of the Motto Akemie plugin by ALM Busy Circuits. This came out for desktop some months ago, and was released as a standalone app and AUv3 plugin for iPad a few days ago, and is based on the highly-regarded Akemie's Taiko Eurorack module. I really like it, but some things about it frustrate me, and I discuss all this in the video. I hope you find it useful both in helping you decide whether this app is right for you, and in learning how the app works. Enjoy, and subscribe and hit the bell if you are interested in music production apps, I cover apps available on iPad, many of which are also available on desktop."

"Playing a Rhodes Chroma with the Retroaktiv Polyphonic Aftertouch Retrofit installed. For more info, visit www.retroaktivsynthesizers.com"

Found the above video from 2017 in the following listing.

via this listing

"It is in great shape, and the wood is nearly flawless. The metal and tolex are also in great shape. It's got the CC+ CPU board upgrade, MIDI and polyphponic aftertouch. The unit has had the following work done:

Luca Sasdelli Switching Power Supply installed. (Replaces original PSU, which was underpowered)

Retroaktiv Polyphonic Aftertouch installed. Can also transmit this via MIDI to control other devices that support poly aftertouch.

CC+ CPU upgrade installed, allowing for CC control of parameters, extra memory, and more.

Other information:

One of the segments is out on the large 2-digit segment display (Which shows the current program selected). One segment is out on the 8-character mini-7-segment screen. Both of these segments are so minor that I have never been affected by them. One of the voice cards is currently coming up with an error. I am willing to replace the card before shipping the instrument. If I haven't played the Chroma for a month, certain keys will need to be exercised a few times in order to work. This is due to the leaf switches used on these. They're the same as the ones on the K250. I have never seen a keyboard that uses these that did not exhibit this behavior.

There is s small dent in the front panel near the Chroma logo. Hardly noticeable.

Voice 6 is currently throwing an error code."
