SoundMiT 2018 Announces First Exhibitors

The following is a list of the first exhibitors coming to SoundMiT - International Sound Summit. The second edition of SoundMiT will be held on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 November 2018, at the Teatro "Lavanderia a Vapore" - Corso Pastrengo 51 Collegno (Turin).
You can click through the links below for additional details on each.

"For the first time in Italy, Schmidt Synthesizers!

Soundmit exclusive, for the first time in Italy the famous no-compromise analog eight-voice polyphonic Schmidt-Synthesizer!

After selling more than 50 units of this exclusive instrument and just starting the production of the third batch of 25 new ones, german manufacturer e:m:c will show the Schmidt-Synthesizer for the first time at Soundmit - International Sound Summit in Torino, 3-4 November 2018.

"We are very excited to show the Schmidt at Soundmit in Italy" says Product Manager Axel Fischer. "Italy is one of the leading countries in electronic music and has a long history of very successful electronic instruments. We are looking forward in meeting the Italian synthesizer scene on location."

Schmidt, one of the most coveted modern analog synthesizers, comes to Italy with his eight-voice polyphony with unison and true multitimbrality mode.
Full MIDI implementation with a USB port and complete programmability. The signal path is fully analog with precise digital control. Schmidt´s sound generation engine features virtually everything that subtractive synthesis is endowed with – and even more: Schmidt gives you truly unique features that have never been implemented in an analog synthesizer before, not to speak of polyphonic units! Think of Multi-PWM and Multi-Ring Modulation.

Every single parameter – even for the most complex modulation routings you might envisage – can be accessed directly using dedicated front panel controls and switches. No more browsing through mind-boggling and confusing menus.

Thanks to programmable high-quality real-time controls (pitch and modulation wheel, stick controller, and aftertouch, as well as several inputs for footswitches and expression pedals), Schmidt has become a real performance synthesizer that feels as good as it sounds.

Schmidt is made to match the highest production standards – it has entirely been hand-crafted in Germany. The casing, made of metal and carefully selected wood, keeping a close eye on environmental sustainability, is as beautiful as it is sturdy and robust.

And we can admire it in November at the Soundmit 2018!"

Erica Synths Garage Special with Jean-Michel Jarre

Published on Nov 28, 2017 Erica Synths

"Erica Synths team visits Jean-Michel Jarre in his studio in Paris to talk about inspiration, creativity, synths and future of the electronic music and to play a live modular jam. Thank you, Jean-Michel for great insights!

Interview: Girts Ozolins
Live jam: Jean-Michel Jarre & Kodek
Camera: Inese Verina"

5:29: sounds like JMJ needs to explore FM synthesis. :) Just kidding. I believe he's referring to the change in focus the DX7 brought towards just playing presets vs. exploring sound.

New Run of The Schmidt

You might remember, back in March of 2016 the final run of Schmidt synthesizers was announced. It looks like a new batch will be made of both the white (announced here) and black versions.

“Last year, we assumed that the second batch would also be the last. The Schmidt Eightvoice Analog Synthesizer’s sound engine electronics are mainly of ‘old school’ stock, with through-hole mounting technology, and pricing for those components have been rising steadily for years. Yet since the second batch of 25 units — ultimately, we ordered some extra components, so there were actually 27 — sold out within 14 months, those component prices are acceptable.”

“So, since the Schmidt Eightvoice Analog Synthesizer still enjoys serious support, we’re happy to announce that additional units of this wonderful instrument will be available in 2018. At the moment, we’re still finishing fulfilling orders for the second batch, but orders for the third batch can be placed as of now.”

"Industrial designer Axel Hartmann and his company Designbox have handled the industrial design for dozens of synthesizers - including the Waldorf Wave, the Alesis Andromeda, the Moog Voyager XL, the Arturia Minibrute and the Schmidt synthesizer.

At Superbooth, Hartmann was showing a personal project, the '20' synthesizer - a high-end synthesizer created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his company.

In this video, Hartmann explains the background of the project, some of the design ideas that he wanted to explore with the '20' and gives a demo of what it can do."

The Last Sunrise

Published on Feb 12, 2017 kpsiegel

"This is my first video done in the newly rebuilt studio. I am dressed in a suit in this one because I just got back from dinner with my wife for her birthday and we managed to drink a lot thanks to some very generous friends of ours. It seemed like a good idea to grab the camera and just jam out with a bunch of synths.

Everything was recorded live off my X32 mixer. Drum channel had compression using the onboard compressor and all the reverb/delay on the synths was from an Eventide H3000 D/SE outboard send with a custom patch from Italo Di Angelis. Audio recorded at 48K/24 bit into my RME Fireface UFX. No post-processing at all. Hey, live is live!

Synths in the video:

MFB Dominion One
GRP A4 - played with the Axiom 61 controller
Macbeth Elements - played with the Axiom controller. Filter A used
Oberheim Two Voice Pro
Behringer Deepmind 12 - Doing arpeggio
Minimoog Model D reissue
Dave Smith Instruments OB-6
Waldorf XTk
Waldorf Q+ - That is the background pad using the sequencer
Schmidt 8 voice poly
John Bowen Solaris
Roland TR-808 for the drums

The lighting was red because I had the colored studio lights set to red. Just seemed like the right feel at the time. It causes graininess in the video image but I didn't care particularly."
