Cosey's hacked nanoPAD
flickr by Chris_Carter_"The 12 'tap pads' on Cosey's Korg nanoPAD have always been 'problematic' to say the least but recently they stopped working completely… again! Because the pads were pretty rubbish anyway she mostly used the Kaoss pad section (to control her soft-synth) so rather than buy yet another unit I sliced off the right-hand pads section with a Dremel - an easy job as the pads are just connected via a flat removable ribbon cable.
She now has a fully functioning USB Kaoss Pad - that's still configurable via the Korg Kontrol Editor app.
I love it when a plan comes together."

DOEPFER A-100 with KORG MONOPOLY
YouTube via AnalogAudio1 | July 16, 2010
"Yesterday I bought my new modular A-100. I picked it up personally from Dieter Doepfer near Munich. We talked much about analog equipment... and I saw the prototype of the interesting new analog sequencer - the DARK TIME. Dieter Doepfer is a very nice man, who listen to users... Thank you.
Later, at home, I put the A-100 together (It was easier than I thought) and here are the first experiments... I played the Korg MonoPoly through the A-100. Mainly you hear the external signal processor, filters and the voltage controlled phaser.
I also used the Lexicon MPX500 and Roland DEP-5 fx processors."

ARP 2600 modular synthesizer late model
YouTube via pineyb | June 04, 2010
via this auction
via this auction
"This unit is a 2601 Rev3, which is the very last revision of the 2600. It comes with the 3620 keyboard, which is duophonic. The last 1,000 units made were 2601s and only the last 100 or so were Rev3. They are quite rare. This is important, because the Rev3s did not have potted submodules, so they can be worked on. The rev3s were mechanically superior to the earlier models. Some people do not like the later filter as much, but that is an $99.00 upgrade from CMS. I like the sonics on this one, I have never found it to be dull or noisy, so I have never modded it.
The best 2600 to look for?
Probably the best course would be to find a late model (2601) and get the audio upgraded here at CMS. The earlier units do sound better from the factory, but the numerous mechanical problems can add up to a hefty repair bill especially if the 2600 in question, has been exposed to moisture for long periods.

Laurie Spiegel and NASA's Golden Record
"Born in Chicago in 1945 she took a degree in social science before studying music at Juilliard specialising in Baroque and Renaissance lute. She then took a leap into electronic music and in the 1970s wrote interactive compositional software at Bell Labs and founded the New York University Computer Music Studio. She also became famous in rock circles for her music software for personal computers. Lauarie Spiegel's own electronic music is minimalist and deals with textures, not melody. Among her works in the 1970s was a piece using mathematical algorithms to make audible a set of laws of planetary motions devised by the 17th century astronomer Johann Kepler which he called the Harmony of the Planets, and it was this work which NASA chose to be part of 'The Golden Record' on board the Voyager space craft."

OhmSound update
OhmSound update from Livid Instruments on Vimeo.
"I recently updated the OhmSound FM synth to fix some long-standing, annoying bugs. Fortunately, I got a chance to revisit why I like this synth so much, in spite of its quirky interface. In this video, I'm mostly just modifying the Carrier and Modulator waveforms, showing how two knobs can create a vast array of sound.
Lay on some thick delays and you have the perfect tool for your improv synth jams!"
Some info on OhmSound: "OhmSound is a complete FM synthesizer, designed to take extensive advantage of the Ohm64 layout and programmability. Or, better said, plug in your Ohm64, open up OhmSound, and have a hell of a lot of fun.
I made this synth not so much as to create the best sounding, most awesome synthesizer ever, but to provide a detailed example of what you can do with the Ohm64. Since the source Max/MSP patches are all available and fairly well documented, it provides an excellent narrative for making your own instruments. Making this instrument also gave me an opportunity to find some potential “best practices” when designing for the Ohm64, as well as test and refine the Editor code and test that further. Testing-by-making is much more fun than testing-with-tests. I had spent an enormous amount of time doing that in the run-up to releasing the Ohm64, and it was high time to get my hands dirty." more details here

Editors - Papillon (performed by Kebu on a Roland Alpha Juno-synth)
YouTube via kebunator | July 15, 2010
"This video is a tribute to the best pop song of the decade, and also to a magnificent but underestimated synth from the 80's.
I woke up one morning with a weird idea of making a cover of the tune called "Papillon" by Editors, using only my Roland Alpha Juno! The equipment visible in the video was the only equipment used for producing the song: a programmer ("editor") for the juno (PG-300), a stereo recording interface (Mindprint Trio), an overdrive stomp box (Boss BD-2), and a computer. The synth was recorded using a multitrack software (Cubase SL). Only the following plugins were used: one stereo reverb, one mono delay, channel EQ, as well as a multiband compressor and limiter on the final master."
4ms Shuffling Clock Multiplier
YouTube via bigcitymusic | July 15, 2010
"Here's the next installment of clock manipulating tools for eurorack from 4ms Pedals. The Shuffling Clock Multiplier gives you multiples of your original clock tempo. The "Rotate" jack from the RCD has come along and there's also a skip input which removes some of the gates depending on your voltage input. We're using an Analogue Systems rs-60 Envelope Generator module in hold mode for our static cv controlling the rotate amount.
Just like the name says, the SCM shuffles too! Outputs with an "S" next to the output denote a shuffled output. The shuffle amount is fixed but the forthcoming breakout panels will give you a knob and CV control of the amount, as well as controls for skip, rotate, pulse width and more.
In this video we have four oscillators fed directly into a Cwejman VCA-4MX. The SCM gates are opening the Cwejman directly. Paired with the RCD, the SCM can greatly expand the rhythms generated by your modular synth!"

"rare Jennings Univox. This is a similar synth to a Gibson Clavioline. I've owned the unit for a few years now and done a lot of work to it. The synth works well ... all the tubes work, all the keys work, and the buttons work as well. The tuning is stable ... you need to tune it every few hours or so. The action on the keyboard is a little rough, its an antique and plays like one. The cabinet has been retolexed with the green alligator-ish tolex. Underneath is the original brown tolex on the inside ... on the outside it seems to be there as well. This could be a great restoration project, or a really cool unique mono synth for your collection. This is the only

Native Instruments Reaktor 5.5 Beta - First Look on CDM
On CDM. The synth bits:"Fans of Reaktor over the years have come to appreciate the free updates and content NI routinely provides to customers. This update is no exception, shipping with ensembles previously released as “Electronic Instruments 2″ and an instrument called Lazerbass that’s based on a new Reaktor module called the Sine Bank. Designed by synth wiz Mike Daliot, Lazerbass showcases in one instrument most of the new Reaktor. It’s got a beautiful panel design, excellent sound selections as snapshots, along with gut-wobbling new additive synthesis. NI is known for sonic innovation and that “Future Sound” so many producers crave. Reaktor 5.5 delivers with Lazerbass and with this new instrument alone, puts a wide wandering swath of VST crap completely to shame." Kilpatrick K4815 Pattern Generator + Dewanatron Triple Slice
YouTube via bigcitymusic | July 15, 2010
"Here's the incredibly amazing Kilpatrick Audio K4815 Pattern Generator controlling the brand new Dewanatron Triple Slice oscillator. The K4815 is capable of producing an almost infinite amount of different patterns and sequences. You choose the pattern type, the motion type, the clock speed (different divisions of internal or external clock), and the gate time. You can choose forward or reverse, major or minor sequences and "large/small" which determines how many octaves your pattern will move through The gate out in this example is opening a Malekko/Wiard Borg filter in lowpass gate/VCA mode.
The Dewanatron Triple Slice is a beautiful sounding triangle oscillator with three wave slicing stages, Slicing is just like wavefolding. Imagine taking a triangle wave and inverting or folding it part way through so now the top portion of the triangle is inverted. There are three stages of this that can add varying degrees of complimentary harmonics to your original waveshape. The "Stir" amount controls the internal LFO's to modulate the amount of each slicing stage. There's also an external oscillator input that you can use to slice other oscillators or sound sources. The "Skew" control adjusts the LFO's slice rates of the second and third stages."

"extremely rare Rev 2 Prophet 5. According to the SC Serial number log only 1117 of the Rev 2 model were ever released to the public. It is anybody's guess as to how many survived. Anyone who is familiar with P5 history knows that the Rev 1 was quickly (183 were made) replaced by the Rev 2. The Rev 2 had the highly sought after, but somewhat unstable (whatcha gonna do) SSM Chips. The Rev 3 moved to the more stable, but less organic sounding Curtis chips.
The serial number is in the 700's and is a non-MIDI conversion. When we were having this unit fully gone over by Wine Country Productions, probably the best SC repair facility in the world, we had some options, but we decided to keep this as original as possible. Because of that we did not replace the nicked wood pieces, nor did we add MIDI. We did replace two pots and two knobs, but they were replaced with original pieces WCP had in stock. Four IC's and sockets were replaced along with one SSM chip. The key stops were not replaced because the key board bed is stable and plays great. The original factory patches were loaded in. After this was done the unit was "burned in", left turned on, for seventy two hours to make sure it was stable and no other problems would crop up. None did."
