Roland TR-909 Drum Machine + SBX-80 Sync

via this auction

"Both are in exceptionally clean condition and work perfectly.

The SBX-80 is, in my opinion, the best sync box one can have for an analog studio. It has 2 DIN sync outs, 2 MIDI outs and even provides analog trigger for clocking a modular sequencer or something like an SH-101 or Pro One. It was designed by Roland to be the perfect "Father Time" of an analog studio."

Exclusive: the bluebox synthesizer

< div class="separator">

via Daniel:

"No one outside the project has seen this yet. It's a concept picture of the new look of the bluebox synthesizer.

This look will closely assemble how it will look in about one month from now. The only difference is that the LED's will be replaced with clear LED's that is blue when litten.

more about the synthesizer here... digitalsoundchips.com"

Update: in case you missed the history: "The blue box was originaly a device to call for free. Used by the early hackers called phone phreaks. To the left [below] you can see the blue box built by Steve Wozniak, on display at the Computer History Museum.

Every thing went in another direction in the early 70ties when Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak the founders of Apple the worlds largest computer company and their friend Captain Crunch, was making a "free" call from a phone booth to get some friends to pick them up.

Steve Jobs was making the call as the cop showed up when Jobs was standing in the phone booth with the blue box in his hand. The Police probably thought they were like drugies or something because Wozniak had long hair. What is this, the police said? Asking about the divice that wozniak desperatly tried to hide, sneaking it into his coat pocket. When you punch the buttons they all make tones, so Wozniak said: It's an electronic music synthesizer. The police man got them all into the police car, and drowe them down to the station, stating that a man named Moog beat them to it. And the rest is history. The thought about the blue box as a electronic music synthesizer was born."

True? This is: "Some of the more famous pranksters were Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs, founders of Apple Computer. On one occasion Wozniak dialed Vatican City and identified himself as Henry Kissinger (imitating Kissinger's German accent) and asked to speak to the Pope (who was sleeping at the time).[3]"

On the bluebox synthesizer (demos on site):

"Digital Sound Chips Blue Box is the worlds smallest fully featured synthesizer. It will easily fit into your pocket or your hand. When others only bring you toys at this size, we bring you the real deal. Fat basses, drums, leads, you name it.

The Blue Box pocket synthesizer use digital synthezis to make raw digital sounds that are impossible to make with analog gear. The Blue Box is based on a new intuitive menu system without submenus, that enable you to play tunes and change any sound parameter on the fly with a minimal user interface.

You can even use it as a MIDI controller, and play on other synthesizers and control knobs in you music sequencer on your computer. Have you ever dreamed of playing live with a small device like Kraftwerk in the 80's? Well now you can. It can also be controlled from a MIDI-keyboard or sequencer via MIDI.

A Quick Note on MATRIXSYNTH-C

MATRIXSYNTH-C started as a place to showcase music made by you the readers of the site. The rule for the site is that only music sent in goes up. This rewards you in that your posts stay up longer vs. competing with the flux of posts going up here on MATRIXSYNTH. It also keeps posts here under control. If you are unclear as to what goes up there vs. here, see this post. In short, MATRIXSYNTH is about the gear and MATRIXSYNTH-C is about the music.

That said, a concern of course is that people that have no interest in the sites (promoters and marketers) might drown your posts on C. So... Moving forward there is a new rule for MATRIXSYNTH-C. If you want a post to go up and promote your music, you will need to promote MATRIXSYNTH by linking back to the site. If you send something in for a post, please make sure there is a link back to MATRIXSYNTH before sending. If not it will likely be ignored. People that take the time to promote MATRIXSYNTH will be rewarded by having their posts stay up on MATRIXSYNTH-C longer. Note all MATRIXSYNTH-C posts also go up on MATRIXSYNTH Twitter and MATRIXSYNTH Facebook.

Update: I will make the exception for people that contribute to the main site. Unless I "know" you please call out what you have contributed - so much comes in it's impossible to remember everything. See the comments below for suggestions on how to link back if you are on Soundcloud, YouTube and/or Vimeo.

Amos + MIDI Mobilizer

YouTube via anythinghonest | January 05, 2011 |

"Amos sends MIDI notes from the iPad to the Korg Electribe via the Line6 MIDI Mobilizer."

"Amos is a reactive MIDI iPad instrument. It sends MIDI notes through a USB MIDI interface or over a wireless network to trigger sounds from software synths, MIDI-capable hardware or desktop DAWs like GarageBand, ProTools and Live.

In Amos's physics-simulated room, collisions between objects trigger MIDI notes. Up to three duration discs (half note, quarter note, eighth note) can be grabbed and thrown around the room. There are three 6-octave keyboards that can be configured via the Settings menu. When a disc strikes a keyboard key, it takes on that key‘s note value and emits that value for each collision until a new key is struck. Tilting the device controls the gravity in the room.

USB MIDI Requirements:
• iPad
• Apple iPad USB Camera Connection Kit
• Class-compliant USB MIDI interface

WiFi MIDI Requirements:
• A Mac, Linux, or Windows computer on the same WiFi network as your iPad
• A copy of the free DSMI Server running on your Mac, Linux, or Windows computer
• Some kind of MIDI capable desktop app (Garage Band, Pro Tools, Logic, Live, Sonar, etc.)

See http://anythinghonest.com/amos for further setup instructions."

RSF Modular 11 with Polyclavier 8 voice keyboard

via this auction

"Super rare RSF Modular 11 with Polyclavier.

These are extremely rare modules built by Ruben and Serge Fernandez from France,Toulouse.

These modules have been built in 1977 and 1978.Not more than 300 modules in total have been built for a total of 20 systems. So RSF is even rare than old Buchla.

Some systems have been in private collections and been put into larger cases. So less than 20 systems are available.

These 2 systems are working on 220v,so a voltage converter will be needed to use it in the USA and Japan.

About 75% of the modules are working. They do need to be serviced, some pots cleaned, calibration, repairs, tuning,...

Whats in the systems: 5x VCO, 4x VCA, 2x ENV, 2x VCF, 2x Mixer,2x Power,1x ENV FOL,1x S&H/Noise.

The keyboard is a 8 voice keyboard with 8 seperate cv/gates, arpeggiator, sequencer wich can have sequences uploaded thru the cassette player/recorder from RSF.

There is also a cassette player/recorder originaly built by RSF(stamp underneath)wich works at 220v.

It can be connected to the keyboard as there is a flat cable inside the keyboard that fits on the cassette player/recorder.

I also have paperwork and schematics to have certain repairs/services done to the modules."

This one spotted by Kyle.

ELKA SYNTHEX Sample Set

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"Elka Synthex multisampled professionally, on 3 DVD, 17184 WAV files for a total of 12,8Gb covering 120 factory, user memory and my own presets, a great chance to own the sounds of this fantastic synthesizer.
The samples are mapped on 5 octaves, just like you're playing the real thing (the Elka Synthex has 5 octaves). Not only I have sampled note on/off, but also I have sampled up to 10 seconds of the presets with interesting sustain, modulation, chorus or filter effects, for allowing playing strings, pads, special effects or let you experimenting deeper with your own sampler. So you have 1, 2, 4, 8 etc bars available.
From the original samples I have used SAMPLIT to convert to the different formats. Wav samples are stereo 16bit 44KHz, each note has been sampled individually."

See this post for a video. Note it is now 3 DVDs up from 2.

OBERHEIM STRUMMER

via this auction
"THE FOLLOWING IS QUOTED DIRECTLY FROM PAGE 2 OF THE OWNERS MANUAL

The Strummer by Oberheim was the first of the new generation of the Oberheim Perf/X, “Performance Expansion” MIDI modules.

The Strummer takes MIDI notes and chords that are played on a keyboard and changes them into the way they would be played on a guitar. You have control over all settings. You set strum rate and direction, lead enhancement, chord voicing, and arpeggiation patterns and 28 other parameters.

The Strummer has 96 presets including 64 permanently in ROM from the factory and 32 user presets in RAM for your custom programs.

The Strummer can record short phrases of “riffs” and play them back when triggered from the keyboard. You select a “trigger key”, play the riff and then press stop. If you press the “trigger key” again at the end, the riff is looped and starts vamping (repeating) until stop is pressed. These “riffs” are stored globally and can be used at any time from any preset!

The Strummer has dynamic MID control over a number of its parameters. Strum speed can be varied by velocity as can the number of notes used in a chord. You can even program chords “on the fly” using “Chord Capture”. Once a chord is ‘captured’ it is held globally until a new one is captured.

The Strummer fully supports System Exclusive allowing external storage and remote editing of Strummer programs."

Trojan Viruses in VSTi's?

See the comments in this post. Anyone experience one in a VSTi? I've been on the fence posting lesser known software based synths. On the one hand I want to promote people new and experimenting, on the other, bad seeds are always a risk. Feel free to comment.

Update via X-Dark in the comments: "Please read this as well : http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=286095&start=0"

Update via Mr. Soza in the comments: "ZoneAlarm False Positive.

The main DLL file actually appears to be clean.
I checked it out myself.
(FYI - I used to write AV signatures & am a malware/security engineer by day).

Infected VSTi's are not new, this primarily affects "cracked" software and stuff you grab from P2P networks.
Though its always possible even for legit sites / apps to be compromised by bad guys so you do have to be somewhat cautious on the internet in general.

My advice to all is be suspicious of anything you download.
Especially when it comes from P2P, blogs or file share sites like RapidShare, MegaUpload, etc...

When in doubt, submit the file(s) to Virustotal for a scan against all the major AV vendors.
Go to www.virustotal.com and upload the files (unzip them first).

To see the results for this VSTi in question, go here

As you can see 0/43 AV products marked this VSTi as an infected file.
So either it's clean or these guys are among the best virus writers on the planet to evade AV detection like that.

Hope that helps my fellow music heads & props to Matrix Synth !!!"

"The MKS80 is Roland's rackmount version of the popular Jupiter series and is similar to the Jupiter 6 and Jupiter 8. One of the fattest and most versatile synths ever made. It features 8 voices of polyphony with 2 great sounding analog oscillators per voice, classic Roland filters, 2 envelope generators, and tons of routing and modulation possibilities. Perfect for pads, leads, bass, or anything you could imagine. It's been used by artists such as Vangelis, Vince Clark, and the Pet Shop Boys. Also included is the MPG programmer which breaks out all the controls onto one panel and makes creating and editing sounds a breeze. This unit was recently serviced by the techs at The Analog Lab, NYC's premiere store for vintage synth and pro audio sales and repairs, so you'll be getting a fully cleaned and calibrated synth."

"You find an old oil furnace tester in a pile of rusty scrap iron. And what could be more natural than to build a small synthesizer into the unit?

This is exactly what I am doing in this video. But to make things fit into the relatively small space I had to simplify the design considerably: Instead of a Voltage Controlled Oscillator I used an astable multivibrator and a row of resistors. Instead of a Voltage Controlled Amplifier I used a clipper. And the envelope generators are really simple ramp generators.
But still it is working. And even though it has some quirks and appear a bit experimental it can still be used for something........ I hope.

The music that comes with this video - before the demo - is something I made back in the year 2000 on the Yamaha HE-8 and Technics SX-C600 organs. I used a Rhytm Ace drum machine for the rhytm and this machine was sync'ed to a homemade phasing unit that modulated the sound from a Yamaha PSS-12. I used a Dynacord Echocord Mini for the echo and the recording was made on a pair of Beocord 2000 tape recorders."

"This was Radio Shack's version of the Casio VL tone, it is the exact same thing, just has a different name on it but is far more rare than it's counterpart."
