Going polyphonic with the Moog Slim Phatty and Little Phatty
YouTube via SourceDistributionTV | January 06, 2011 |
"Or to be more precise, duophonic! Both the Moog Little Phatty keyboard and the Slim Phatty module are monophonic instruments, but chain them together with MIDI and you can create a polyphonic Moog system! I wish we had more Slim Phatties lying around but at time of writing are currently sold out :'~|
That's a good thing though, right? If you have one of these synths (or a Voyager which can also be chained), and know someone else who does too, get over there and try this out!
Anyhow. This vid is unfortunately in mono (onboard camera sound too), and most certainly not a musical statement, as we had just received the Slim Phatty and I was just testing that the setup works! I had individual synths to individual speakers and in stereo, in person, it sounded AMAZING. You'll have to forgive my complete inability to play a keyboard. God bless MIDI. And Dr Bob Moog."
Nanoloop - 8BIT Sequenzer/Synthesizer
via this auction
"Nanoloop for Game Boy is a sequencer / synthesizer cartridge for Game Boy consoles. It allows to create electronic music without further hardware, using headphones or external speakers for sound output.
The idea of nanoloop is to simplify the stepsequencer concept as far as possible while keeping the gamesome, yet addictve character of loop-based music creation. The minimalistic graphical user interface was specifically developed for the Game Boy's small screen and has been optimized for keypad operation. Despite the simple design and usage, it provides access to the raw sound synthesis components and allows to create complex musical structures."
Note: I created a Nanoloop label. Prior to this I was just using the Nintendo label. I added the label to a chunk of posts, but not every one as Blogger search in the editor did not bring up all posts. Remember, always check out corresponding labels, in this case Nintendo, for more. Also use the Google search box on the right.
White Face Arp Odyssey Mk 1 & Nine Inch Nails - The Hand That Feeds
"This is the rare "white face" version of the Arp Odyssey. It was the first version of the Odyssey ever made and has a different sounding filter than the later ones, when they started to rip off Moog. It's a matter of taste, but I greatly prefer this version as it sounds more metallic and industrial. Apparently, so does Trent Reznor as he used it for the synth lead from "The Hand That Feeds." Take a look at it next to a Buchla 200e in the video:[below]. The serial number is 282188"

One Synthesizer Sound Every Day on Audio Cookbook

"In the spirit of One Sound Every Day, I am starting a new project called One Synthesizer Sound Every Day. My plan is to use hardware synthesizers from my collection (and eventually soft-synths) to produce a sound, musical phrase, or microtrack to share here on ACB every day for a year. As well as my own sounds, I’ll be accepting select sounds from other artists and ACB readers to share on the site in the daily article."

XBox 360 Ableton Live device parameter controller
XBox 360 Ableton Live device parameter controller from AntonAudio on Vimeo.
"This patch started as an OSC game controller that I decided to port to Max for Live to take advantage of the device parameter control API. It was a pretty painless port, most of the work was trying to fit everything into the narrow UI space and attempting to execute a clever way to tab through the 5 pages of control options. I think it turned out pretty nice, its still got some bugs but is a lot of fun to experiment with.
As in my OSC patch, I’ve made each message range scalable for fine tuning control possibilities. There are 5 nodes for each joystick plus XY values which gave me 7 possible control parameters for each joystick! I also implemented an adjustable sustained noteout message when pushing the sticks down so I could trigger pads and arpeggiators with the same controller.
I again pretty much randomly assigned a bunch of controls to an arpeggiator, percussive synth, drum machine parameters, ambient synth, effects, effects and more effects:) Check the vid if you’re interested to hear some results. Sound starts at 00:18 seconds."

Ensoniq EPS 16 Plus - Sampled Drums Part 10
YouTube via TheDaydreamSound | January 06, 2011 |
"Here's part 10, the final video of the sampled drums series. The EPS 16 + handles drums really well. The only way I can describe it is it gives the samples a very cold glossy feel (kind of like a ice covered rock). The definition in the higher frequencies are rolled of slightly when sampling at 44.1Khz and the lower frequencies are just hard sounding.
With the exception of the Mirage and the ASR X, the Filters on every one of the Ensoniq samplers are pretty much the same. I've grown to like them more and more over time. When I first heard them I didn't think much of them.
If you're into older gear and you're looking for a sampler that has a lot of routing, modulation and synthisis capabilites, the Ensoniq EPS 16 Plus might be right up your alley. It's perfrect for someone who likes to create sounds from scratch. Despite the fact that you will only have 2MB or sample RAM once it's expanded, I find that I've done more with it than I've done with samplers with much more memory. It's really more of synthesiser that you can sample your own waveforms instead of using preset waveforms, which makes it a really powerful sound shaping tool.
And if all else fails, you can even make the EPS 16 Plus create a square wave by Going to " Command Wave and selecting Create New Waveform". I've made quite a few sounds using this feature.
As Always Thanks For Stopping By!

"Noodling around on this compact combo. iPad breathes new life into the MS-20 USB controller. Apologies for the crappy camera work and test sounds. I just got them hooked up and was literally recording as I was trying stuff out for the first time. Will make a steady cam and properly recorded piece when I get time. This combo is really fun. There are so many more features I didn't get to record but explored after this video. I'm lucky I had a USB MS-20 to hook up to my iPAD. The only downside I see is the pad has no way to be powered while you are doing this so eventually it will run out of battery. Still.. it's already a load of fun."
