Stepp DG1 guitar synth

via this auction

"This, as I'm sure you'll know if you're looking is a Stepp DG1 guitar synth as used by many guitar types in the 80's, Alan Holdsworth and Steve were among many noted users. This one seems to be totally complete with the base unit, the guitar, the linking cable and the all important owners manual. When turned on some of the lights come up and the fret lights come on, sometimes, after a while, a lo flashes on a panel. I"

AudioCubes MIDIBridge2 updated to r31

via Percussa
"MIDIBridge is the main application for AudioCubes to generate MIDI notes and control changes, which can be sent to any software or hardware supporting MIDI including external synths, effect boxes, etc.

MIDI can also be sent back to MIDIBridge from external gear to control the colours of AudioCubes in sync with the music or audio, using MIDI control changes.

If you have a drum machine like the Elektron Machinedrum you can also sync MIDIBridge to the clock of the drum machine and makes the cubes flash at tempo intervals.

In sensor mode, when AudioCubes send distance info from their faces as MIDI control changes, colors can be linked to the distance info...."

Burnt Synths

via Craigslist

"Selling my Moog Voyager. Not in the best of shape as the drummer left burning cigarette on the top and there was some damage. Internal filters are mostly burned along with 90% of the oscillators and wiring. Half the keys are not workable and it does not turn on. Do not plug in as it sparks inside and may start a fire. Inside is much more damage than outside. No longer produces sound. Some of the knobs are still somewhat salvageable, however.

Regardless a great gem for anyone who can appreciate true analogue sound. Nothing sounds like a Voyager, truly one of the strongest synths of it's time and still stands up as one of the greatest analogue synths ever made. A treat to play and sounds like nothing else.

$1,200 FIRM. Pickup only."

Sewing Machine Orchestra & LA CHAMBRE DES MACHINES

Sewing Machine Orchestra from Martin Messier on Vimeo.

"Sewing machine orchestra is the first version of a performance created by martin messier. the basic sounds used in this performance consist entirely of the acoustic noises produced by 8 sewing machines, amplified by means of microcontacts and process by a computer.

the microcontroller system also enable to use the sewing machines to affect certain parameters of the acoustic sound. the wheel, for exemple, can be assigned to the output volume, etc. machine's mechanism can be activated by remote, using microcontrollers and a computer, without the need for any other human intervention.

these old objects has the effect of taking the imagination further, primarily through their evocative power. whether they remind of specific incidents or recall the relationship to such objects, few people remain indifferent when they see them.

this creation was made possible with the support of the canada council for the arts.

LA CHAMBRE DES MACHINES from Martin Messier on Vimeo.

"At the beginning of the 20th century, when Italian futurist Luigi Russolo began to include “noise” in musical composition, he made a box into a musical instrument. This box, the intonarumori, concealed mysterious mechanisms. Contrary to the intonarumori, the box designed by Alexandre Landry is open. The mechanisms are revealed and perhaps allow us to better understand the music created through the open box. During the piece, intonarumori and clocks are meticulously animated to extract their musical qualities.

Manipulations and mechanical sounds are revealed in the play of crafting noise in real-time. Without tainting their nostalgic quality, digital technologies give a new context to the intonarumori and the old clocks. Thus, we will bring you into our “boxes” for a little while, to share with you the heart of their mechanisms."

- parameter default value buttons. In v1.2, if you touch the parameter value label, it resets the label / slider to a default value (ex: VCO wave = Saw; VCF Freq = wide open, etc...) for each parameter... this is the fastest workflow you'll ever get in sound designing!"

How to Make a Giant iPad - MTbiggie

"The bigger brother of the MTmini, the Multitouch Biggie (MTbiggie) is a low-cost multitouch solution using:

- 2 chairs
- acrylic sheet
- paper
- projector
- mirror
- computer.

Shadows on the surface are tracked and sent to multitouch applications as touch positions. This technique is known as "front diffused illumination".

While this isn't the most robust and stable multitouch solution, it is a general introduction to the technology.

Mode Machines ASID 64 in Violation of MIDIBox SID Licensing?

This one in via latigid. There is currently a thread on the MIDIBox forum discussing the new ASID64 or ASF-1 from Mode Machines shown at the Musikmesse as being in violation of the MIDIBox licensing agreement. You can see it currently listed on Touched By Sound's website for 1.495,00 € here. What's interesting is the unit first made an appearance during Winter NAMM as seen in this post but may have gone unnoticed until now.

Wilba at the forum who appears to represent MIDIBox states, "I already know about this, and I will comment more on it later."
Followed by TK: "The owner of Mode Machines replies in facebook:

Quote
'Michael Thorpe Hello - I don´t think you are getting the point here. We have not offered the unit furthermore we have only showed a possible version of it and we discussed this beforehand with the owner and designer and also are currently talking to them ...'

These statements are simply not true!

Some months ago we found a MIDIbox SID on the TBS product page. Nils contacted the company, explained the legal status (during a long phone call) and got the answer that they are not planning to sell the MIDIbox anymore. But it can still be found on their page, and now we saw it at Musikmesse as well.

Quote
'we discussed this beforehand with the owner and designer'

false, they never contacted me.

Quote
'and also are currently talking to them ...'

false, they are currently not talking to us (in distance: Nils had to pro-actively contact them some weeks ago and thought that this topic is clarified).
And I must say that I'm not interested to talk with profiteers with such attitude.
Especially since it seems that they have no experience with the MBSID hardware/software - who should support the customers?

Best Regards, Thorsten."

Followed by: "Since some months we consider to change to the TAPR Noncommercial Hardware License, which would allow everybody to build and sell up to 10 units in any 12 month period on a non-profit basis w/o need for a special permission from our side.
Without going too much into details (please open a new thread if you feel that this needs more discussion, but there will be a topic soon anyhow): this license would explicitly allow a professional or hobbyists to build and sell a MIDIbox to another user if he is only paid for his expenses (w/o profit)
It would also make it less complicated to resell a used MIDIbox, no special permission required from our side as long as the NCL isn't violated.

TBS violated the old license (no commercial use without my permission), and they would also violate the new license (e.g. by renaming the project and not mentioning the copyright holders - also the announced price of 1500 EUR somehow doesn't match with the "non-profit" term).

Btw: for the case that you are interested on a MB6582, check this fleamarket sale by Lucem:

Best Regards, Thorsten."

"Here's the new Station Q analogue step sequencer by Analogue Solutions:

Just for fun: "Station Q: On a Saturday" is a short, one-day tune comprised of various Station Q sequences as well as a sequence from the Q's big brother, the Oberkorn MK3.

Most of the music was live and in real-time, however some tracks were recorded to allow for certain transitions to take place (fades). This video wasn't intended to be an in-depth tutorial of the Q, but only a first glimpse.

The Station Q is available now via the Analogue Solutions website and is of the same form factor as the Station X and Station Y mini-modular synthesizers.

As usual, all music is original and 100% analogue."
