via the seller: "Sometimes customers can sell there boards thru The Synth Spa, like this one. But this one has something cool attached to it. A lighted bender and a 100.00 dollar coupon towards a custom color upgrade. The metal case has a bit of rust , but only a small amount, thus the reason for the custom color upgrade coupon. ( now the custom color will only cost you 150.00 with the coupon) .

This 106 received the total restoration package and it's serial number is recorded in the book of life! Where I guarantee its working ability and currently made parts for 10 years.

She a beast under the hood, I personally did the calibration and install of new electronics . The voice chips are guaranteed for life as well. The sliders have been taken apart , deoxidized , and resoldered back into the board. The power section was also rebuilt. Volume pot is smooth and clean, and the buttons are brand new tac switches. Keys have been cleaned. The internal memory now has the best of the best 106 sounds installed. Also there is a standard 3 prong power receptacle and cable that comes with this synth."

VCO2-RM

ADSR-VC2
DMF-2
VCA-2P

"The 2RM is equipped with seven waveforms, LFO mode, sync and waveform outputs are routed to a DC coupled ring modulator (RM). The oscillator's frequency is controlled by COARSE, TUNE knobs and FM inputs. TUNE finetunes the oscillators (± 6 semitones).
Frequency modulation (leveled FM1, FM2 and FM3 ) determinates the intensity of frequency modulation and/or pitch control. All FM inputs are carefully calibrated for 1Volt/octave sensitivity. Frequency modulation, by an audio signal, creates so called "side-bands" that consist of sum and difference of signals frequencies.
These additional frequencies do mostly have a non harmonic sound. Modulation, by low periodic waveforms, such as LFO or envelope generator creates momentary pitch shift of modulated oscillator common named vibrato (by LFO) or pitch bend (by envelope generator).
SYNC means that sync'ed oscillators frequency is tracked by the frequency of controlling oscillator;
OSC2's frequency is syncronized to OSC1's frequency. When the tuned frequency of sync-ed oscillator has the same or multiple of frequency of controlling oscillator then sync-ed oscillators waveform has no or very little "glitch" which results in a sync-ed smooth waveform (sinus waveform). The sync-ed waveforms (with additional FM modulation) are perfect for cutting edge lead sound and hard, funky basses.
PULSE WIDTH % adjusts the pulse width of the pulse wave from 5% to 95%.
WAVEFORM selects the waveform or a mix of waveforms from an oscillator. PULSE WIDTH control works also on the waveform mixes where the pulse wave is included.
Ring modulator (RM) is a classic audio effect device and due to the non harmonic character of the output signal, very useful to create metallic timbres such as bells, sweeping whistles and percussive sounds and tremolo effects (modulated by low periodic signal like a LFO). Two input signals are pre-patched to OSC1 and OSC2 outputs. Using the inputs X and Y, any other external signal can be routed directly into the ring modulator. As modulation source the ring modulator can produce a huge amount of complex waveforms both in the low and audio frequency range."

"The D-LFO consists of two identical low frequency oscillators. The LFO2 can be internally sync-ed to LFO1 by an internal switch. The TRIP POINT control the voltage point at which the waveform is sync-ed; continuously from lowest to highest point of the waveform. Additionally the external signal can be used as sync source in two modes; the SYNC T converts the external signal to a very narrow pulse for a distinct sync and the SYNC G extract pulse width of the external signal for sync with a "steady state" sync-ed waveform. The RM/AM is a ring modulator / amplitude modulator. It is coupled to both LFO's outputs and has a separate output "RM-AM" and input for external signal (pre-patched to the LFO2's output)."

A LinnDrum Brought Back to Life

November Group "Put Your Back To It"

Uploaded on Jan 7, 2009 by tuneup89 - The track is from 1984.

Along the lines of the recent post in via Pea Hicks on the story of a Roland MC-8, we have a story of the actual LinnDrum used in the track for the video above by November Group.  That's the LinnDrum pictured to the left. This one comes in via XBS where you'll find the full post.

"The Linndrum we have has a long and illustrious lineage! It was originally owned by a good friend of mine who is now a great painter ( Alvan Long )! He is also a drummer and was in several boston bands long before my time! Here’s a Pure No Wave Gem from one of those bands called The November Group"

The bad news is it sat unused for 15 years with leaking battery and blown caps.  The good news is it was brought back to life by Forat.  Click through above for more pics and the full post.

Eurorack Modular with Oberheim Voice Board & Moog 24 dB Ladder Filter

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"This synth is pretty rare, sounds great and contains Oberheim technology. It uses the same chip set found in early Oberheim synths like the OB-Xa. The Oberheim logo is printed on the voicecards inside the synth. It also sounds like a 'real Oberheim'. If you like using modular gear, and like the sound of classic vintage synths like OB-1, OB-Xa, OB-8 etc, you won´t be dissapointed.

2 x VCO
Coarse & fine Tune, range from ultra-low to ultra-high-(non-audible)frequency
PW & PWM knobs
Output: Saw, Triangle, Pulse
Input: CV, FM, SYNC, PWM
- Curtis CEM 3340, from Oberheim OB-Xa

1 x MOOG VCF
Cutoff, Emphasis, CV, Contour knobs
Output: Signal
Input: Signal, CV, Modulation, Envelope
- Great sounding 24db MOOG Clone, self-oscillating

1 x OBERHEIM VCF
Cutoff, Resonance, CV, Env. knobs
Output: Signal
Input: CV, Res. CV, Modulation, Envelope
- I´m not a fan of this filter, it doesn`t fully cutoff the signal, doesn´t quite reach self-oscillation. Does have voltage controlled resonance, though.

2x LFO
Frequency & level knobs
Output: Saw, Triangle, Square

2 x ADSR
- very fast, snappy attack, great for percussive sounds

2 x VCA
- Curtis CEM 3310, from OB-Xa

1 x RINGMODULATOR
Level knob
X & Y Inputs, Signal output

1 X SPEECH-MOD
Frequency & Intensity knobs
Range, Chop-on, Mod-on, triangle/sine and FM-Source Switches
2 Signal In, 1 Output
- great for extreme, weird, screaming, metallic sounds

2 X MIXER (3 in 1)

1 x BINARY DIVIDER
= Sub-oscillator, 4-way switch

1 x NOISE (white noise only)

4 x MULTIPLE/INTERFACE
- two of these are hardwired to the CV and GATE-channel of the MIDI Interface
- the other two allow interfacing with standard 6,3mm cables.

1 X SLEW LIMITER
= Glide

1 X MIDI INTERFACE
= Doepfer A-191, modified with banana-jack output for CV 2. CV1 and Gate are internally hardwired to multiples 1 and 2.

Things that don´t work as they should:
1. the level knob on LFO 2 only levels the triangle output
2. the Y-input of the ringmodulator doesn´t work. Not a big problem since I will include a spare RINGMODULATOR Module. Identical to the one installed in the System. It used to sit where the MIDI-Interface is now. It comes untested, and you have to install it yourself

optical condition: a few scratches are visible, on sides and top.

One more thing, not a problem but something you should know:
both oscillators offer SYNC. When syncing VCO 2 to VCO 1 you get the "classic" hardsync sounds you might remember from synths like Prophet 5, Jupiter 8, OB-8 etc. When syncing VCO 1 to VCO 2 you get a different sound - more like cross-modulation. So both inputs are labeled "sync", but seem to offer different kinds of sync - maybe one offers hard-sync, the other soft-sync.

This System uses the 1/Volt Octave standard, so interfacing with most other modular gear is no problem. However this system uses banana jacks. Cables are included (as seen in the pictures). Connection with 6,3 mm standard cables is possible when using one of the four interface/multiple modules..."

I change from the Rotator patch to a Synth Trumpet patch (still mixed with the Live Analog Synth) on the XPression from the Programmer 3 & 4 buttons. I can't wait to do this live with a real drummer!
