"A very fancy Circuit Bent / Modded / Hacked PSS-460 FM Synthesizer......

Left speaker panel now contains an integrated Step-Sequencer, which is used to Twist, Modulate & Gate the sound, and can provide analog sync with suitable gear such as a Monotribe.

The PSS-460 has inside it a little analog Chorus circuit, which generates the fake stereo effect - Hardware Hacking reveals a clean LFO and a very rich sounding PHASER. I've also added an audio input socket on the back of the machine, so that external audio can be piped through the Phaser :)

The right speaker panel now houses an FM Glitch synthesizer, which allows access to an infinite amount of unique new FM sounds;
Glitch Buttons can generate entirely new patches, a Bolt-bay can be used to re-patch the FM chip, and hardwired Glitch buttons can be used to guide a live performance....

The vid is pretty self-explanatory (ie playing around with the new controls to generate sounds), but take particular notice of 7:45, where I generate a unique new instrument patch, using glitch buttons to craft the sound.

The Pss-460 (also known as the PSS-470, PSS-560 & PSS-570) is the best of all Yamaha's PSS-xx range. It's a pure FM machine, with FM drums and a little 'Digital Synthesizer' panel containing basic controls for creating a custom instrument patch.

I'm lucky enough to own another PSS-460, so this one's going up for sale on ebay in a day or two.

"Gear setup for the track 'living with schizophrenia'

The song was inspired by a video depicting what it is like to be schizophrenic. The telephone sample and female voice in the middle are all from the video.

The track represents a person waking up, disoriented but functioning, unable to really grasp what’s going on and hearing all sorts of voice like noises. The phone rings but when answered, there is an incomprehensible voice making instrument like noises coming from the handset. Things get progressively darker and fuller sounding as the middle arrives and everything seems to grind to a halt, While the Xoxbox keeps playing, like reality still going on in the background of someone’s life. A voice then explains this is all a simulation, and to get ready because now it’s about to really get going, then the effect comes back, this time rising to an explosive peak followed by an intense release giving way to lighter yet still tenseful self realisation that everything is going to be ok, this time....

The track started out as a jam with the 808 and the analog solutions reverb. I had the doepfer LFO modulation the reverb and recorded a few passes noodling with it. The big wind down and wind up effect in the middle of the track (including the high pitch whine) is achieved solely with the reverb setting being cranked to the max by the slow sweep of the LFO. In the last part of the song, it the effect of the 808 that is heard overtop the Drumtraks.

That doepfer LFO a-145 is a good deal, this one was $80 used. It can go super slow and you can retrigger it. Very handy as a modulation source for any synth or effect gear in you may own that has some type of analog control input.

"Here is an ARP Quadra synthesizer in near mint condition and perfect working order. It has lived its entire life in a private home with its original owner, and has spent most of that time safely stored in its Anvil case. It is in immaculate condition, has never been gigged, was used sparingly, and is as pristine an example as you will likely ever find. All keys, slide switches, membrane switches, and LEDs work flawlessly. Most of the sliders are smooth and quiet, with an occasional slight crackle coming from a couple that should disappear through regular use. Otherwise, everything is working as it should, and the synth sounds amazing.

Recent service work performed:
LM3900N Quad op-amp IC chip replaced on filter board

Aussi, je n'avais pas prévu une aussi longue vidéo ...
Dommage pour l'introduction car, je n'ai pas enregistré à temps. Parfois c'est comme ça :)

Avec cette vidéo, je ne vais pas chercher à vous montrer mes capacités, mais juste un bon moment et le plaisir de jouer !

"vintage late 1980's E-mu emulator 3 synth. This is a very famous model that was used on countless hit albums. It had a staggering cost of about $15,000 when new and was made to compete with the ultra expensive Fairlight CMI and Synclavier Systems. I picked this up from an old production house that went out of business a while ago. It is sold as-is, as found, in non-working condition. This is because of the missing power supply. The 3 sliding controls on the top are also broken off. Everything else seems to be intact and in pretty good cosmetic condition. This would be a great candidate for a parts machine..."

The MAQ16/3 CV 1 Out goes to the CV In of a Doepfer A-156 Dual Quantizer which forces the voltages into a major scale. The A-155 sequencer’s 8 step sequence goes to the Transpose In of the Quantizer. The Blacet VCO Octave Shift is controlled by an A-145 LFO Ramp shape, with Reset from Row 2 of MAQ16/3 set to every ¼ note. Another LFO (Doepfer A-146 LFO2) creates a slow, narrow pulse which modifies the decay time of a Doepfer A-142 VC Decay, which in turn controls the VCA. You may hear the notes go from short to long."

New Enclave Flight Eurorack Cases

"The Enclave Flight Cases have landed……………….

Since Media Décor introduced its line of Enclave studio cases at NAMM, musicians realized the quality of our design and execution and have requested us to build portable cases. Our design team put their heads together and designed the Enclave Flight Series carrying cases from the ground up.

The case construction is unique: Instead of the typical screws and brackets and butted corners of conventional cases, we used solid machined dovetail construction for a seamless contoured monolithic design. Typically the industry standard has been to cover the cases with Tolex or fabric. The problem with this is that it can tear or stretch. Our solution was to completely encase the case inside and out with a military grade ballistic coating.

To maintain structural integrity, all hardware is thru bolted with locking washers. The radius corners are further protected with chevron corners. Attention to detail is vital: there are even built in strap eyes on the 6U for a padded over the shoulder carrying strap.

We decided to use Vector T-rails for the module attachment. The rails themselves have no slot for adding the nuts. They are simply removed by the user for adding or removing the attachment nuts.

Power is always of great concern to the user. Our solution is to offer the units unpowered or powered by the appropriate Makenoise Power System because of it high quality specifications and industry acceptance.

Photographs do not do justice to the Enclave Flight Cases. They are to be touched and used to appreciate the new level of aesthetics, function, and durability we have brought to the synthesizer case industry.

• Solid Dovetail Construction – no screws to pull out
• Hardware is thru bolted with locking washers – no screws
• Military Grade two part polyurethane elastomer coating inside and out; Fabric Free (No Tolex to Snag or tear)

"Electro Harmonix Electronic Crash. It's a cool little electronic drum that can be activated by tapping the cork pad, or by an external trigger. EHX originally made a whole set of these and a sequencer that could control them all. The pedal works and is in decent cosmetic shape for its age. There are no videos of this one online. It basically starts as white noise that you can shape, envelope, and filter to create different sounds - many of which resmble closed hi hats or crash cymbals of early analog drum machines."

Kilpatrick K4815 Improvisation
