"The German made Hartmann Neuron was a polyphonic synthesizer that attempted to break new ground using a new form of synthesis and sound-modeling they say was based on technology found in neural networks. What the Neuron actually does is it analyzes audio files (samples) and creates digital computer models of these sounds which can then be re-synthesized and processed using the extensive amount of on-board data-wheels and joysticks with control of more 'musical' sonic aspects such as instrument shape, size and acoustic behavior. The joysticks allow for real-time tweaking of up to three parameters at once - 3D modeling in a true 5.1 surround sound environment.

The Neuron shipped with 200 modeled sounds already in its memory, but using their proprietary software application, ModelMaker (Mac/Win) a user can add their own sampled sounds to be modeled by the Neuron's neural network, and these can be stored in the user memory banks (sounds could be brought into the Neuron via analog, S/PDIF or USB connections). Instead of oscillators, the Neuron uses Resynators, of which it has two. Each resynator holds a single model (you can freely assign any models in memory to each resynator to build your sound). Each resynator has a joystick that lets you adjust the 'scape' and the 'sphere' of the sound. 'Scape' refers to the generation properties of a sound (such as the excitation source in a real instrument), 'sphere' would contain all parameters referring to the properties of the resonating 'instrument' body. The Neuron's Blender function lets you mix the results of the two resynators in a variety of ways, including morphing and crossfading. It even lets you manipulate one resynator using another.

"Very good condition for it's age. Some minor chipping of finish under keybed and other small blemishes here and there. Sounds amazing as you can imagine. This is a MKI (indiciated by the lack of a screw in the VCA silkscreen graphics sectiion) which means it has the venerable IC35 filter known for being more aggressive than the later MKII filter (which is more liquidy). As it is 40 years old and hasn't been serviced in over 20, it is sold 100% functional but 'as-is'. I would recommend a recap and calibration at some point in the near-future to ensure another 20 years of trouble free use. The new mini is dope, but the build quality is flimsy by comparison."

"Hi folks, I just received the Akai MPC Live so had to give it a little spin.. A little jam, couple of usual mistakes and the great Walter Brown on vocals singing his song 'Mississippi Moan' loudly ;)

I am just trying out some general stuff here like muting/unmuting audio/sample sequences, midi sequencing the System-1 and Analog Four , imported some of my Soundfonts (Piano) which I converted in Akai format first, some OP-1 samples and other simple things...

For the little time I had with it up to now I think it's a very potential machine though it could use some updates.. Some things are a bit messy/missing or not working so you can see and feel it's still early days for the Mpc Live.

I do love the midi sequencer side of things which is the main reason I got the Mpc.. It's very nice to have a visual representation of what you play/record and it's tight! I really hope that there will be usb midi out support in the future and think it's strange it's not implemented by default.. The amount of (insert) effects that you can use on audio tracks/samples is insane.. though the quality of the effects is not my cup of tea.. The delay is okay.

I hope to find some more time the next couple of weeks to explore the machine some more and will post another video if so.. Cheers!"

"Well I've had this idea in my head for a hell of a long time and never got round to having a go at it, make acid on a bit of gear that is in no way designed to do so with no external equipment, the Yamaha PSS-580.

The Yamaha PSS-580 as I've mentioned a few times already in my videos is a bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing. Designed as a home keyboard and looking very toy like this keyboard could be easily overlooked but the facade hides quite a powerful synthesizer.

I had to employ a few tricks using the sequencer and programmable voice banks to get this to work that i might share in a tutorial if anyone is interested and I can find time to do a video where I talk to camera."

I created a custom configuration for it that outputs three channels of pitch and gates to the Eurorack modular for using SoundPrism to control the synth. All the sounds you here are coming from the hardware modules. The SoundPrism app is only used as a MIDI controller.

"Some quick experiments using Xoac Devices' new Drezno module to process audio. Animodule's M1xXOR allows manual and voltage control of which bits are passed through, ignored or inverted, but you could do similar things with switch, logic or VCA modules.

Initial patch:

Second patch:

I've really gone & done it. This synth is so cool!
How to describe such a RARE SYNTHESIZER...
--with all of it's character & vintage quirks.....
As quirky as a Prophet-600 (tuning, voicing, MIDI)
..as mean as a Prophet-600 (If you know what you are doing)
It's knob-less to the knob jockey but it's POWER is easily
accessible thru the IN YOUR FACE menu diagram right in front
of you... such a breeze to tweak... and after a bit you get it
& it is SO FUN to make new sounds! Worth the $$$$!!!

In this demo I show off some custom sounds & I tweak
them into sonic mutations.. this synth (and other SCI kit)
is so cool & all have a distinct sonic character different
from ANY other synth in the studio. Even against new
DSI gear.. Original Sequential Circuits gear still holds it's
sonic charm, allure, worth & POWER! I love it!!!

The SPLIT-EIGHT is SUPER RARE on the market...
I was calling all of my spirit guides & demigods to help me
on this transaction.. but here are the HARD FACTS PEOPLE...
If you EVER expect a second hand vintage synth to be
FLAWLESS (unless completely refurbished) be ready for
a serious surprise... expect SOMETHING quirky at least...
I have had more than a few vintage synths like this... :0
(It's 2017 for goodness sake! LOL!!!)

The Split-8 sounds cool, it's useful for today's vintage standard.
But expect some tuning issues randomly, voices not following
the filter or some amp settings like all of the other voices...
There are a few moments in this video demo that show it...
Wine Country might be your friend for a few months...
(But hey, It's good to be their friend, they are awesome!!)
That being said having some SWEET vintage kit is cool &
such an honor to have! It says a TON about your synth taste!
I like how this synth can pull up sounds not like anything else.
I am going to post a few more videos of this RARE SYNTH soon.

Erica Dtech VCF: Exploring Instability (LMS: Eurorack Expansion Preview)

"The filter in the classic Russian Polivoks synthesizer is prized for its distortion and occasionally out-of-control resonance. The Eurorack-format Erica Dtech VCF is my personal favorite implementation of the Polivoks filter, including lots of controls, different cutoff curves and resonance responses, as well as a switch between low pass and bandpass operation.

In this movie I explore how to put the filter in and out of instability by manipulating the input level and resonance amount, including using the unusual 'CV Address' control. I spend most of the time in low pass mode, but also explore bandpass toward the end.
