Moog Voyager Old School White Wash

via this auction

"Minimoog Voyager OS - Old School Synthesizer
Limited Edition in White Wash Finished Wood.
Features
• 44-key keyboard with velocity and afterpressure outputs
• Three wide-range, high stability VCO’s (Voltage Controlled Oscillators) with continuously-variable waveforms.
• Five-input mixer for combining the audio sources prior to filtering.
• Dual mode filter module includes dual lowpass and highpass-lowpass filtering.
• The Envelopes Module generates two wide-range ADSR (Attack Decay Sustain Release) envelopes.
• Low Frequency Oscillator generates triangular, square, Sample & Hold, and smoothed Sample & Hold waveforms for use as modulating signals.
• Classic Moog Thick & Warm Analog Sound"

Anyone know if the OS has multi-pole filtering like the original Voyager and if so, how do you set the different poles? If not, what other differences are there in regards to sound generation - not controls as that is obvious.

Machinedrum and Kenton Pro-2000

see the full post on felix inferious. the following is just an excerpt:
"So, what I chose to do was simply sequence a few notes (patched from the "A" CV) and patched 4-6 of the Auxiliary CV outs to various other controls on the modular, like the filter cutoff, EG timebase, VCAs for LFOs and FM index. I was having a lot of fun, adding a step on the MD's sequencer and either manually setting a parameter lock, or just turning one of the knobs in real time, indirectly controlling the modular. It was a blast. The real fun came though when I remembered that you can set parameter locks in realtime record mode; just twist the knobs and your actions are recorded via param locks. I was know simply tweaking controls and they were automatically recorded. Sequencing filter cutoffs and FM indexes was extremely immediate and intuitive feeling. It was fantastic."

TZFM SAW VCO

via frijitz in this electro-music.com thread.
"This looks somewhat promising. It's a SAW VCO with thru-zero FM. So far just a proof of principle. But quite simple and cost effective. None of that doo-dah with rectifying the CV, separately reversing the core direction, etc. Just modulate the core's input current back and forth and carefully process what comes out..."

SPEAR

"SPEAR is an application for audio analysis, editing and synthesis. The analysis procedure (which is based on the traditional McAulay-Quatieri technique) attempts to represent a sound with many individual sinusoidal tracks (partials), each corresponding to a single sinusoidal wave with time varying frequency and amplitude.

Something which closely resembles the original input sound (a resynthesis) can be generated by computing and adding all of the individual time varying sinusoidal waves together. In almost all cases the resynthesis will not be exactly identical to the original sound (although it is possible to get very close).

Aside from offering a very detailed analysis of the time varying frequency content of a sound, a sinusoidal model offers a great deal of flexibility for editing and manipulation. SPEAR supports flexible selection and immediate manipulation of analysis data, cut and paste, and unlimited undo/redo. Hundreds of simultaneous partials can be synthesized in real-time and documents may contain thousands of individual partials dispersed in time. SPEAR also supports a variety of standard file formats for the import and export of analysis data."

Health Club Music's Soundlab

images via this auction
"This is Health Club Music's Soundlab Game- It is an Analog Synthesizer & 8-step Sequencer. It is a mini sized synth and sequencer inspired from the look of game. You can make different kinds of sounds with Game. Melodic, hypnotic sequences, space sci-fi, chip-tunes, tonal drones, electro, whimsical birds, other spooky, catchy, and chirpy music you create. You can also play it with your other analog synthesizers and drum machines of course.

The Features:
2 VCOs (1 ramp and 1 ramp & square with Pulse Width modulation)
1 LFO with square, triangle, sawtooth, ramp waves
1 Attack Release Envelope Generator with Manual Trigger button
1 VCF with switchable band-pass and low-pass
1 White Noise Generator
1 Mixer
1 VCA
1 8-Step Analog Sequencer
Inputs and Output jacks
12vAC Power Supply

The Oscillators sync with one another with the sync switch on, plus the link feature is one where tuning Osc.1 tunes both Osc.1 and Osc.2. External CV input jacks are wired so that one CV input into CV1 will send the CV to both Osc1 and Osc2. With the Link switch on, the tuning knob on VCO2 will detune VCO2 from VCO1. If you plug in a CV input to just CV2, they will be controlled independently.

The audio input has a pre-amp built in, and the main output has a headphone amp loud enough for you to listen on your headphones.

SEQUENCER: The 8-Step Sequencer has an external clock jack and is also switchable between the LFO and AR Envelope as your on-board clock source. There is a Sequencer CV switch on each VCO, of course. There is also a gate on/off switch on the AR. (it is not labeled) You can play the sequencer in forward or reverse mode. One portamento knob. The reset options are external and manual. Make your reset spontaneous or improvisational with the Manual Reset arcade button.
Make your reset programmed and synced with your drum machine trigger output. I have used the TR-606 Low Tom as the clock source and Hi Tom as the Reset input to sync the Game Sequencer and TR-606 together.
The LFO clock source works best, you turn the speed of the LFO as your sequencer clock speed, and you can use it with any LFO wave shape. Square gives a more perfect pulse, and triangle waves can give more irregular intervals at the slow LFO speed. The AR clock source is best used when the sequencer gate output is not switched on to the AR, this setup makes a feedback loop with the sequencer and AR, but is that is fun also. You can play on the AR's internal loop; the Manual Trigger will not trigger the sequencer when the gate output is switched to the AR. One of the most interesting is to play with the Attack and Release times to control the sequencer in unconventional ways! There is 1 sequencer CV and 1 Sequencer Gate output for external control.

Runs on 12v AC (AC only!). Adapter included.

The synthesizer part of Game is based on a circuit design by Ray Wilson. Visit Music From Outer Space at http://www.musicfromouterspace.com for other exciting analog projects and PC boards.

On The Lower Frequencies

Interview: Ralf Hutter of Kraftwerk

full interview here

"Is it easier now to perform live than it was say 20 years ago because the technology is better?

Definitely, we've been very lucky that the technology developed in our direction. (laughs) This is what we envisaged in the late 70s when we worked with mostly analogue [equipment] of course. Then we composed the concept of [the album] Computer World coming out in 81 and we didn't even have computers at that time. So that was more like a visionary album. We only got that technology, a small PC, around the tour of that album and we used one on stage just writing letters. Just typing them in, not even in synch or anything. Just live, and a guy putting that on screen.

So we have been very lucky because you can imagine in the late 70s the travelling problems. We couldn't tour at all because all our drum tracks were recorded and were synchronised by sequencers."

SunSyn Updates - Q&A

via the Jomox site:
"Because of the lots of inquiries we got right now we want to answer some frequently asked questions about SunSyn in order to avoid rumors:

1. Are SunSyns not manufactured any more?
Sadly not. There are some very essential and central parts at high quantities that are not available any more. The costs and efforts for a full re-engineering are too high because it would turn out to be a complete new development.

2. Will there be another run?
We still have some assemblies from the old production run that can be build into SunSyns after completion of the 2.0 update. However, it is a rather small quantity of about 20 units.

3. When does the update 2.0 come?
We are currently busy with programming and it's planned to get ready still in 2008. A more precise date is impossible to tell."

Be sure to check out the site for the rest of the Q&A. Sent my way via swissdoc.

Analogue Systems rs390 Echo Module - Deeper

YouTube via bigcitymusic. http://bigcitymusic.com
"The rs390 is a 24 Bit Digital Delay module with stereo output and CV control of delay time and wet/dry amount.

At the start of this video we're modulating the delay time with a square wave LFO that is synced to the sequence. There are lots of possibilities with this configuration. You can achieve unique multi-tap delays, sweeping mild or extreme modulated delays, or random delays using a sample and hold waveform.

The next part of the video we move through the different ranges. There's a switch with modes 1, 2 & 3. Each mode progressively adds a larger range to the delay time.

In the final bit of the video we hear a slow triangle wave LFO modulating the wet/dry amount. This can add subtle changes to the delay amount or drastic dry to wet mixes depending on your modulation source. This unit will continue to feedback on itself if the "Repeat Depth" knob is turned all the way up."

Audio Damage Rough Rider Now Available - FOR FREE!

"Rough Rider is a modern compressor with a bit of 'vintage' style bite and a uniquely warm sound. Perfect for adding compression effects to your drum buss, it also sounds great with synth bass, clean guitar, and backing vocals. Definitely not an all-purpose compressor, Rough Rider is at its best when used to add pump to rhythmic tracks. Of course, you can use it however you'd like. The Compressor Police aren't gonna come to your house and give you a citation. Slap it on a track and crank some knobs.

The front panel layout is done the same as many hardware compressors, so it will be immediately obvious how to use it. A brief overview of the controls:

Ratio: The ratio knob is logarithmic in operation. Completely anti-clockwise is 1:1, and completely clockwise is 1:1000. The 12 o'clock position is 1:10, so everything to the left of center is single digits, and everything to the right is 'atom bomb squish,' essentially.

Attack and Release: We left off the actual time values, so you're gonna have to use your ears, like the he-men did it in times of myth.

Meter: That honking big dial in the middle of the UI is the gain reduction meter. It basically shows how much compression is occurring.

Sensitivity: usually called 'threshold' now, but we think 'sensitivity' always made more sense. Turn to the right, you get more compression, essentially. Turn it all the way to the right, and you've got a distortion box, the sound of which is tuned by Ratio, Attack, and Release.

Makeup: 30 dB of gain to compensate for the attenuation caused by the compressor.

Active: From the front panel, this is simply an off/on switch, but if you automate it, strange things happen...

MIDI Learn: Like all of our products, the VST version has MIDI Learn. Download any manual from the current product line for an explanation of how this works, as it is common among all our VST products.

Rough Rider is available as a VST effect for Windows, and an AU or VST for OSX. The OSX versions are Universal Binaries, and require OSX 10.4.0 or later."

You can find it here. Follow-up to this post.
